[00:00:00.220] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Thanks for joining us on another episode of Pool magazine podcast. I'm your host, Joe Trusty, Editor of Pool magazine. Today, I'm chatting with Samantha and Connor Tiegs from EeziBlue, a popular algacide that has been making waves, both among professionals in the industry as well as with consumers alike. It's a pleasure to have you with us today on the show.

[00:00:19.460] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

It's so good to be here, Joe.

[00:00:21.480] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

Yes, it's good to be here. Thank you for setting this up for us.

[00:00:24.430] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

It's my pleasure. I mean, you know this summer that just passed was another rough one for pool owners. Chlorine green is still pretty darn expensive. Consequently, algacide treatments have become enormously popular, particularly over the last few years, and EeziBlue is one of the leaders in this product category. I'm eager to learn more about the product and how it works, but before we get deep into our conversation, I thought a good starting point for today's discussion would be to first have you give us a little bit of backstory on the history of EeziBlue. How you guys got your start and where you're from is that today?

[00:00:58.570] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

I love this question. So EeziBlue was developed over 21 years ago. It was developed in 2003 in Africa, and it's been Africa's secret for the last 21 years. It was developed in a country called Zimbabwe, which is just north of South Africa. And you may know a little bit about this country, but essentially they suffer with really bad power outages that can sometimes last days at a time. And so they Dave, who's the original formulator and inventor of the products and patent holder, he came up with a solution that would make the tools that he was maintaining more manageable and also prevent them from growing algae over the days that they had no electricity. So he developed this product. It was insanely successful, and it was actually endorsed and taken on by Ouidra, who now licensed it and sell it under one of their brand banners called Blue 52 in South They have later taken it to Australia, and only now is it making its way into the US. We brought it here independently, and it's been extremely successful so far. Even us as the custodians of the brand are constantly amazed by what incredible feedback we get from full professionals and full owners alike.

[00:02:22.760] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

Typically, they complement us on how efficient it is to use it, hassle-free, and the price is obviously a huge selling point. It's really economical. So that is a bit of a backstory on why it came to be, how it came to be, and where you'll find us in the US now.

[00:02:40.000] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Well, thank you, Samantha, for that bit of bio information. Could you give us a little bit of overview about how EeziBlue works.

[00:02:48.590] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

Yes. So in a nutshell, it's a monthly cool care solution which both eliminates and prevents algae. It's a proprietary formula containing minerals which work in conjunction with chlorine to maintain a crystal clear and healthier swimming environment. It not only eliminates the need for other specialized products, but it also allows you to reduce your chlorine consumption by up to 75 %. So instead of maintaining your chlorine at the standard 2 to 4 part per million, you can now reduce this to just 0.5 to one part per million. So there's not only a significant cost saving there, but it also provides a much softer swimming environment for the pool owner, so it makes it a win-win for everybody.

[00:03:32.740] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Well, you guys are in a very competitive product category for sure. I mean, there's a lot of different products out on the market. So why do you think pool professionals and pool owners are gravitating towards EeziBlue as a go-to solution?

[00:03:48.050] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

Pool professionals specifically love the fact that it's a multi-tool. We call it the ultimate multi-tool, the leatherman for the back of your track. And that's because it combines multiple benefits one product. You no longer need to use phosphate removers, clarifiers, and other specialized chemicals. And you have the added bonus of being able to reduce your chlorine consumption, which is typical of other mineral algacides. They also really like that it's super efficient to use. And the ease of use, the fact that we sell it to them in a 40-pound bucket just means it's only one bucket that they're having to take on their roots, and then they can dose their pulls accordingly without having to carry around the individual unit. Same thing with pool owners, the convenience of having their monthly dosage delivered to them prepackaged in the exact size that they need just makes maintaining of their pool so much simpler and a cost-effective solution so that they don't have to use as much chlorine.

[00:04:49.120] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

I've gone through some of the product literature on your website, and you've coined the term copper-zinc synergy as one of the cornerstones of the EeziBlue formula. What is that?

[00:04:59.780] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

So Copper Zinc Synergy is the cornerstone of our success. In a nutshell, it provides enhanced algae and bacteria control, and it also acts as a mechanism to prevent copper staining, which is a common concern with using copper-based products. As we know, it's a great alder side, but used on its own requires large quantities for it to be effective. And this is where staining can occur. The copper falls out of solution and precipitates against the full surface. And studies have shown that the addition of Zinc makes the copper far more effective at lower concentrations. Zinc is not only an alder side on its own, but it also weakens the outer layer of the algal cell, allowing for more efficient penetration of copper ions, meaning less copper is required to do the same job. Zinc also acts to keep the copper ions in solution, so the benefits are twofold. And that's the synergy that takes place between copper and Zinc. It occurs at a specific ratio between these two ions in solution, and And that's pretty much the basis of the formula, which is unique to our product.

[00:06:05.030] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Well, as we said before, there's lots of other competing methods and treatments out there. How does EeziBlue stack up when compared to other mineral ionizers?

[00:06:14.260] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

So if we compare to the other mineral ionizers on the market, how they work is through being added into a pump basket and then the flow of the water through the pump basket. As I mentioned, when Easyblue was first developed, it was for use in places where there was no electricity, and so the pool's pump may not even be working at full capacity, and it was still effective. So EeziBlue allows you, actually, if you need to, to reduce your pool run times while still being as effective. The other ionizers on the market also offer high startup costs with the promise of lasting for multiple months. In our product, you know that you're going to have consistent results, and it's always going to be effective from month one to month six because of the monthly dosage.

[00:07:03.700] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Well, there's tons of different products of this nature out there. But one question that we frequently get with products of this kind, is it safe for my pool and will the product cause any staining?

[00:07:14.790] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

We've touched on the staining issue just a little, but there is more to add there. Firstly, you should know if your source water has a lot of copper, which is common in some areas of the US, and you can get simple copper testing strips to check this yourself. Outside of that, our prescribed monthly dosage is below the minimum threshold that would cause staining. Of course, this depends on the PH. A higher PH will bring copper out of solution at a lower concentration. So we recommend keeping your PH between 6.8 and 7.4, which is pretty standard. But your copper concentration works much like chlorine in that it decreases over time and needs to be topped up. As copper kills algae, it latches to the dead cell and collects in the filter. It's then ejected after a backwash or a filter clean. A heavy rainfall will also dilute the copper. So you'll find when using our product that the copper concentration will fluctuate between about 0.2 and 0.4 part per million. And And that's on a routine monthly application of EeziBlue. And this is well below the standing threshold of one part per million, obviously, depending on your pH and other factors.

[00:08:24.760] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

And this is the reason EeziBlue is so effective at such low concentration. And is because of the coppicing synergy I've previously mentioned.

[00:08:33.800] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

I've heard people are using EeziBlue quite a bit in conjunction with performing green to clean. What is the process like with using EeziBlue to transform a green pool?

[00:08:43.680] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

So it's a super It's a super versatile product. My favorite way to use EeziBlue is obviously as an ultra preventative and to reduce it, but it is very effective at green to clean. I will say I love it when our customers and pool pros share their images with us. So just a I say to your listeners, please share your images with us when you do a green to clean. But it's super easy. So like Conor mentioned, we recommend your pH is somewhere in between 6.8 and 7.4. And if it's high, it's typically just brought down by using muriatic acid. You'll add EeziBlue as per the instructions to the stemmer basket, and then you'll follow that with a chlorine shock, and that's like a 2.2 pounds to 13,000 gallons. And Obviously, depending on your size pool, you'll just change that according to the gallonage of your pool. And yeah, so in 24 hours, the green should have dropped to the bottom. You'll be able to vacuum and have a green to clear pool.

[00:09:44.840] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

I understand that EeziBlue is available on a subscription basis. Why do you guys feel it was important to institute this service for homeowners? And how is a subscription model helped you grow the brand?

[00:09:56.990] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

The one thing we've learned is that the subscription model is built on the idea that preventing ALGE is far more cost effective than treating it. So especially for homeowners who maintain their own pools, they can subscribe to monthly deliveries of EeziBlue and receive a pre-measured dose that's tailored to their pool size. And each delivery also serves as a convenient reminder to add the product. And while they're at it, they can take care of the necessary pool maintenance. We found that EeziBlue users can manage most of their pool upkeep just once a month, including tasks like cleaning the filter and the skimmer baskets. On the other hand, treating an established algae problem takes time and it costs money to treat. This can include multiple trips to your local pool store, and they'll recommend you purchase multiple products such It's algicides, foculents, and shock treatments, all of which can add up in cost. Additionally, the treatment process can take several days or even weeks, during which you're not able to swim in the pool. So that's why the monthly subscription works. It's a form of preventative maintenance, and it's extremely cost-effective. Also, anyone who wants to try this out can visit our website, easyblue.

[00:11:07.140] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

Com, and new subscribers get their first month completely free with no future commitment. So it's a great way for people to try this out for themselves.

[00:11:16.640] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

I think that's a great idea, Conor, and you hit the nail on the head, preventive maintenance. But how do pool owners get on a monthly algacide program without any pre-treatment?

[00:11:27.820] - Connor Tiegs - EeziBlue

To provide your PH and total alkalinity are within range, you're ready to get started. If either of these two parameters are out of range, it's very easy to bring them back, and you can simply use pool test strips to measure these yourself. Once the pool water is balanced, you can transition directly to a monthly maintenance routine using EeziBlue. And with this approach, there's no need for heavy pre-treatment because the monthly dose will prevent ALGE from taking hold in the first place.

[00:11:54.990] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Well, as we mentioned before, I'm not going to say any specific product names, but You're in a very competitive space. It seems that there's a ton of different ultra-side products on the market. What do you guys feel are the main differentiators between EeziBlue and your competitors?

[00:12:11.260] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

Yeah, so ultra-sides, obviously, are very broad space, and it's all different ways to tackle algae. If I compare us to the other mineral algacides, specifically in this space, the flexibility of monthly dosages is really where we have the upper hand. Something your listeners may not know is we're actually based in Houston, Texas, and the rainfall this year has been record-breaking. And we never once had to worry about our product being washed out or diluted because of the flexibility of the monthly dosages. I can't imagine what it's like for someone who invest in something that has a very expensive startup cost and then is hit by a hurricane or extreme weather event and then has to rely on expensive boosters in order to get the results that they hope they would get at the initial input of the product.

[00:13:01.830] - Joe Trusty - Pool Magazine

Samantha, Connor, thanks so much for coming on the show to answer some questions we had about your product. I really enjoyed our conversation and appreciate you taking time out to connect with our readers and our listeners.

[00:13:12.850] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

Thank you so much for having us on the show, Joe. We're really, really excited to have been on your show and to be here with you. And it's been great telling the listeners about our product. Obviously, as I explained, super new and everyone's trying to figure out who are we and how do we fit into to the picture of the Mineral Alder Side world. We are going to be at the international show. I believe you guys will also be there. So I'm so excited to see you and Maria on there. And then we're also going to be at the other Texas show, the Southwest Pool & Spa in Houston, a local show. And then if anyone is in the northeast, we're going to be at the Atlantic City show. So I would love if any of the cool pros in those areas would come and introduce themselves and get to know us. If you're not based in of those areas or not attending the shows, you can always find out more on our website, which is www. Easyblue. Com. And if you reach out to us, we have social media pages on Instagram and TikTok.

[00:14:13.110] - Samantha Tiegs - EeziBlue

I'm the person responding to you if you want to reach out or ask any questions. We'd love to just continue the conversation with anyone who wants to know more about the product.
