Mario & Nicole’s Holiday Reflections - UNARMORED

As this year draws to a close, I had the privilege of sitting down with my incredible wife, Nicole, to record a very special episode of Unarmored Talk.

This one is different—it’s unstructured, raw, and straight from the heart. We share stories from the early days of our relationship, including the unforgettable moment we first met and our initial impressions of each other. We also reflect on the journey that has brought us to an incredible milestone: our upcoming 30th wedding anniversary.

Blessed new year, new year, new years or new year, new year. Yeah, I'll see you guys, we're live. But here's the deal right before we started to record, we said let's give our listeners and viewers an Unarmored episode with the host and the boast. The host with the boast, that's Nicole, she's my boss. So we decided one question that we did not prepare for, one interview Unarmored. So Nicole goes first. Here you go.

Okay, marius, so what is? Your most recent accomplishments that you're proud of. My most recent accomplishment that you're proud of.

Mario P. Fields 1:39

I would say, out of all the accomplishments is that we are about 30 days from celebrating 30 years of matrimony. So, sweet yeah, unarmored baby yeah.

When you first met me and you first saw me in Pensacola, florida in the barracks room. What was the first thing that went through your mind, first thing when you saw me? Just let us know.

Nicole Fields 2:22

First thing I said oh, he got some cute eyebrows, did I not, Did I not?

Mario P. Fields 2:32

You told me that I know what was the first thing that went through your mind before you got that close to me. Because before you got that close to me.

I didn't see you walk in.

Oh, because I was that dark.

No, no, it wasn't. Oh, because I was that dark?

No, no, it wasn't, oh man, because I didn't know what sunblock was and I was in, I was he was.

Nicole Fields 2:51

He was dark, but he didn't know what sunblock was. But I was like you know. You can still get skin cancer, so you need some of that sunblock. And I told her because I was black and I can't get skin cancer which was not true, Not true, that was, you know, when I was 13, by the way, so coming up from Michigan, he was never taught about sunblock. But this girl here grew up in California where, yes, we use baby oil. Back then, as I was growing up, but you know, you learn as you got older and it was sunscreen.

I don't think we should have said baby oil.

The first time I kissed you. What did you think? What emotions did you experience the first time I laid these $2.7 billion lips on your face?

Tinglys. You know why? Because I put some chapstick On my lips Y'all can use this unarmored and then I let the chapstick cure for about 30 minutes, and then I put another layer, and then I sprinkle some salt, and then I what was?

Why Ask me different questions? Why, okay? When you first saw me on base in the barracks, what was your first thoughts 30 years ago?

hey, my first thoughts was I thought she was puerto rican and she was so short and I was like she is so cute and you know. And then I was like I just didn't have the courage. She, nicole, was so pretty that I literally did not have the courage to talk to her, because I was afraid. This is unarmored talk. I'm not lying. I was afraid. She is so pretty. Y'all can see her now If you, if you're listening, y'all need to get on a YouTube channel. She's beautiful.

Like I told her, if it was the Nicole today versus the Nicole when I first met her, I would have dated the Nicole today and dumped the Nicole when I first met her.

It's unarmored. I think we both have age like fine wine.

She's so humanitarian, we both have age. No, she is so like. She's so humanitarian, we both have age.

Lance Corporal I first met. Well, there it is everyone. We'll give you guys some more Unarmored in 2025, but I was super scared that she wouldn't talk to me. And then she said, yeah, pretty eyebrows, and that did it. I made her marry me. I said you will be my wife. She goes okay, yeah, man. Well, you guys have been great this year.
