I've spent years working with people experiencing chronic symptoms, and one thing is clear. The biggest obstacle to healing isn't always the symptoms themselves. It's the costly mistakes people keep making on their healing journey. These mistakes quietly drain your time, money, and energy, leaving you exhausted and stuck, even when you think you're doing everything right. This episode is about how avoiding those mistakes can be the difference between spinning your wheels and making real progress. I'm going to share four of the most common ones I see and how steering clear of them can save you from burnout, frustration, and wasted resources. Stick with me because understanding these pitfalls will give you the clarity and focus you need to finally move forward and reclaim your healing journey. Welcome to the Rebellious Healer, where we ditch the fear, decode the symptoms, and take healing into our own hands. I'm Jenny Peterson, a former holistic practitioner, term symptom-free mind-body rebel. I help women break free from protocols and step into trust, confidence, and full body healing. If you're done with rules, restrictions, and outsourcing your power, you're in the right place. So let's start with the very first mistake that I see derailing so many healing journeys. One that often feels like it's helping, but actually does the opposite. It's doing too many protocols at once. It might feel like the logical thing to do. Throw everything at the problem. Try all the supplements, the diets, the therapies, and the mind-body practices you can find. The more, the better, right? But here's the catch. More isn't better. In fact, it can really backfire. So why do we think more is better in healing? And this comes down to how our brain is wired. Our brain is designed to solve problems quickly and efficiently. And when something feels wrong, our instinct is to do more to fix it. We live in a culture that values productivity, action, and pushing through challenges. So this mindset naturally spills over into healing. Plus, we've been conditioned by the health industry, social media, and well-meaning practitioners to believe that the more protocols, supplements, and treatments we try, the closer we get to healing. But the subconscious brain, the part that truly controls healing, doesn't respond well to overwhelm. Instead of embracing change, it retreats into protection mode when overloaded. When you overwhelm your body and nervous system with too many changes all at once, it becomes harder for your body to integrate and truly heal. Your nervous system can get stressed out, confused, and resistant. Healing slows down or even stalls. And I've been there myself. Early in my own healing journey, I was so desperate to fix everything at once. I piled on the supplements, tried every diet, experimented with different therapies and healing techniques. I thought if I just did enough, something would finally work. But instead I felt exhausted, overwhelmed, and stuck. My nervous system was constantly on edge from the barrage of new protocols and changes I was doing. And progress was slow. And I wouldn't even know if anything was working, truthfully, because I was doing so many things, I would never be able to pinpoint what it was that was working. And it felt like I was going backwards. And here's what I eventually realized. None of all that stuff really matters if you're not focusing on the subconscious. Yes, that might sound overly simple, even too good to be true, but the truth is everything, every symptom, every pattern, every stuck place is rooted in your subconscious. Your subconscious is the part of you that controls your body's survival response. The part that holds the safety rules you learned early on. Until those subconscious patterns feel safe enough to change, no amount of protocols or supplements or whatever you're doing will create lasting change. So the real work, the only focus that truly matters is rewiring the subconscious to create new patterns of safety and trust. So having too many protocols, doing too many things at one time is actually going to slow you down than simplifying it and just focusing on one area. I've seen it time and time again. So mistake number two, another huge mistake I see that keeps people stuck, is their intense focus on symptoms, watching, fearing, and trying to control every ache, pain, and flare-up. When symptoms become the center of your attention, it creates a feedback loop of fear and hypervigilance in your brain. Your mind becomes a magnifying glass, zooming in on every bodily sensation and interpreting it as a threat. This constant monitoring and fearing can hijack your nervous system, keeping your body locked in a state of protection instead of healing. And let's be real, if focusing on your symptoms and being in fear of them was the solution, you wouldn't still have symptoms. You would have been better a long time ago. It's understandable why we're doing this. Symptoms are uncomfortable and often unpredictable. They can feel like a red flag that something is seriously wrong, and it's natural to want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. That is your brain working perfectly. But here's the paradox. When your focus is on controlling or eliminating symptoms, you actually reinforce the very patterns that created them. Symptoms are your body's language, messages from your subconscious about what needs attention. They're not the enemy, they're a sign that your body is trying to protect and communicate with you. If you keep your attention fixed on the symptom, you remain in the role of a victim, someone reacting to the body instead of leading it. Real healing requires a shift in that identity. It means moving from someone feeling trapped by their symptoms to someone who trusts their body and takes the lead in their healing. You become the healer your body has been waiting for. This shift is not about denying symptoms or pretending that they don't exist. It's about changing your relationship with them. Instead of fearing control, you cultivate curiosity, trust, and compassion. You learn to listen to symptoms as guides, not threats. That's a big mindset change and it's a process, but it's absolutely essential for breaking free of chronic symptom cycles. Mistake number three, chasing the perfect mind-body modality. I see this over and over again, especially with those that are maybe moving out of the holistic space, realizing that the restrictive diets and the supplements aren't really working for them, or they want to try something different, but they're stepping into more of the mind-body work. And they go to now jumping into searching for the perfect mind-body modality to do the inner work. So they think that this modality, whether it's EFT, psych K, NLP, breath work, somatic therapy, or whatever else, will be the key to finally cracking the code and healing. And I've been there myself. I learned EFT, faster EFT, then Psych K, NLP, and a whole bunch of other techniques. I was convinced that the modality was what would do the trick. I would sit and tap all day long on my body and say a bunch of words and just hope that, okay, I said the words and I tapped in my body. Why is nothing working? I was hopping from one mind-body approach to another, hoping that the next thing would unlock this magical healing for me. But here's what I eventually realized: none of those tools alone could create lasting change because I hadn't truly understood how my subconscious was wired, the root programming, the safety requirements needed to rewire it. There's a lot of talk about where the programming comes from, but there's not a lot of talk about the requirements needed to rewire the subconscious. It's not just about a bunch of positive talk and then it's automatically programmed in. A modality might help you become aware of subconscious blocks or even help you release old patterns. But to truly rewire your subconscious, you have to take specific, consistent actions that are tailored to your unique patterns. You have to take action so your nervous system knows what that feels like. Just saying it, just talking about it isn't enough for the nervous system to rewire. You have to do. There has to be some action. And that's where many modalities fall short. They don't give you the exact personal steps, personal actions you need to rewire at the subconscious level. And that's the real work, the foundation beneath any modality or tool. People often will say to me, I've done mind-body work before, Jenny. How is what you do any different? And the thing is, is we don't use a modality. I know all of those modalities. I don't use any of them. Instead, we use the Heal and Thrive framework. This is my framework that is essentially a process that is aligned with how the subconscious mind actually works. And it's a process that we go through. It's not a modality. We don't need a particular thing to do the work. We just need to understand how is the brain wired, how was it programmed, and how do we unprogram it and rewire it. That is the process that we're going through. And you don't need a modality to do that. You just simply need to know the requirements that your subconscious has for rewiring. We don't want you to put your power into a protocol or a technique. Because when you do that, the power stays outside of you, in the modality, the coach or the technique. Our goal is for the power to stay with you where it belongs. Mistake number four, no healing plan, just winging it. What I see is people jumping from one idea or protocol or piece of advice to another without there having to be any clear plan. And winging it looks like trying a little bit of this and a little bit of that. One day you're changing your diet, the next day you're trying a new supplement, then you're switching to a different breathing technique or starting a meditation you heard online. You're experimenting, you're hoping that by doing something, you'll eventually figure it out. It might feel like enough at the moment, because after all, you're taking action, right? That's why it feels like you're doing something. You're not sitting still, so surely, you know, this will lead somewhere. But here's the truth: trying a bunch of things without a cohesive plan is one of the fastest ways to stay stuck. Every person I meet who's on a healing journey is winging it in some way. Honestly, I've never had someone come to me already with a strategic healing plan who just needed help executing it. Almost everyone is piecing things together on their own, jumping from one thing to another and feeling frustrated when results don't come. No matter what goal you want to reach, whether it's losing weight, building a business, or learning a new skill, you need a strategic plan with clear steps, and healing is no different. When you don't have a roadmap for your healing, it's easy to get overwhelmed, distracted, or burnt out. You might make some progress, but without a clear path, progress is slow, inconsistent, and can be frustrating. Winging it can feel chaotic because your subconscious is still operating on outdated survival patterns. Without a focused plan that addresses those patterns step by step, your body doesn't know how to trust or where to put its energy. And I know this feeling firsthand. When I was on my healing journey, I didn't like how chaotic and overwhelming winging it felt in my own healing journey. I remember thinking to myself, I need structure and a plan of some type. So I created that plan for myself because truthfully, no practitioner I worked with ever gave me a clear roadmap. It was always just schedule another session for next week. These practitioners only wanted me to have sessions, but never gave me an actual plan for what I needed to do daily to become someone new. The sessions were supposed to do all the magic, but the truth was they barely moved the needle because when I went home, I had no plan or tools for how to work on the patterns on my own. That lack of structure, that constant chaos and uncertainty that I had in my own healing journey, that's actually how my business was born. I created the step-by-step process based on what I was going through personally. And having a strategic healing plan gives you clarity on exactly what needs your attention, focus so you're not spreading yourself too thin, which we all know that we're doing that, confidence, knowing each step builds towards your goal, and momentum because when you're doing these small daily actions, it creates forward momentum and it keeps you moving forward instead of in circles. So when you take the time to build a personalized step-by-step healing plan that fits your unique subconscious wiring and symptoms, everything shifts. You move from feeling overwhelmed and reactive to empowered and intentional. And that's how lasting healing happens. All right, so we've unpacked these four common mistakes. And it's important to see how they often work together to keep you stuck, and more importantly, what you can do instead to move forward with clarity and confidence. So let's recap. These four mistakes often combine like a perfect storm that keeps you stuck. Doing too many protocols overwhelms your nervous system. Fearing and obsessing over symptoms keeps you trapped in anxiety. Searching for external modalities delays stepping into your power. Winging it without a plan leaves you lost and frustrated. But here's the good news: none of this is your fault. These patterns are survival strategies wired deep in your subconscious, designed to protect you. Plus, the healing world often offers fragmented advice, making it hard to find clarity. The cost of these mistakes, wasted time, drained energy, and money spent on things that don't actually move the needle. Avoiding these mistakes is the key to saving your resources while finally making real progress on your healing journey. So let's create a path forward that is clear and simple. You need to simplify and focus your healing steps. Shift your identity from symptom-focused to empowered healer. And use modalities as supportive tools alongside a personalized subconscious rewiring plan. So now that you can see how these mistakes quietly drain your time, energy, and money, the question becomes: how do you break free from this cycle? And the first step is clarity, understanding exactly what subconscious patterns are keeping your body stuck and what actions will actually move the needle for you. That's exactly why I created the Root Cause Report.
