The AI era is accelerating at an unprecedented pace with exciting developments on the horizon. Dr. Jon Finn explores how we can apply brain state intelligence—a concept visible in cricket performance—to thrive alongside AI in our professional lives.
• England's cricket batsmen demonstrated exceptional brain state intelligence by controlling their activation levels
• Brain State Intelligence involves knowing when to recharge, focus intensely, and optimize medium-charge work
• AI can supercharge our high-charge work by outsourcing brain power to systems with more stable energy supplies
• Medium-charge work can be completely outsourced to agentic AI, freeing more time for recharge
• High performers in sports and business share one common skill: brain state intelligence
• Now is the time to develop these skills before the AI revolution accelerates further
You only have a one Brain State habit away.
Hello Habit Mechanics. It's Dr John Finn here. I hope you're having a great week. So far, yet again, we've seen the acceleration of the AI era come hurtling towards us at a pace that I don't think anybody has predicted. There's been so many interesting news stories, so many interesting insights about results, about what businesses have invested, what's coming down the pipeline, what they're projecting, the technologies have invested in can actually do.
Speaker 1:Um, so some really, I think, exciting things are going to be coming in the next weeks and months, and I just wanted to talk very practically today about what we can do to help ourselves thrive, and sport is a great way to see performance psychology expressed physically. It's a bit more difficult when we're sitting at our desks doing the work we do every day to observe it, but in sport it's much clearer. And what we just had in the UK, and actually in Leeds, at the famous Headingley Stadium, was a test match, the first test match in a five-match series between England and India, two of the best teams in the world, and it was an epic test match, one which will go down in the history books as one of the greatest, but one which England ultimately came out on top and won the game and what was striking about England's performance, in particular their batting, was how good they were or how good their brain state intelligence was. Yeah, that's what we're coming on to to. So we know that we've created this new field of psychology human ai performance psychology to help people thrive as they work alongside ai, as we move to these smaller teams of of humans, and that's why we're going to see cuts in the workforce right, because we will need less humans, certainly in the jobs humans are currently being paid for. Other jobs may be created, we don't know. But the sort of practical application of human high performance psychology is brain state intelligence and just earlier this week we actually released a new training programme for personal mastery which is called the advanced brain state intelligence certification. So it's a five-week online program where you have some one-to-one coaching, support and um used to train you how to become brain state intelligent.
Speaker 1:But what we saw with the England cricket team and the England batsmen particularly, was a real awareness of controlling their activation levels. So in the past they've been accused of, in my language, not controlling their activation levels, not being brain state intelligent, but in the test match that's just gone, what we saw was a much greater awareness of. They would call it, in cricket, going up and down the gears, but I, in cricket, going up and down the gears, but I would call it going up and down the brain states because I want to come from a first principle perspective and ultimately, neurons are driving the behaviour. So this awareness of when to attack, when to defend, when to go fast, when to go slow, and what we saw just in a cricket innings, we can extrapolate that or we can compare that to a 24-hour period in your life, and this is what brain state intelligence is all about.
Speaker 1:It's about knowing when to recharge and what to do so you secure high quality recharge. It's about understanding how to properly do high charge, how to focus and concentrate really intensely when you need to, and it's about understanding how to optimize the way that you do medium charge work and when we extend that into our own lives. This is where the AI comes in, because we know we can use AI to extend, augment, supercharge or however you want to call it our high-charge work, because essentially, by working with generative AI like you're trying to create a strategy report or a marketing plan and you're going to use Claude or ChatGTP this is like outsourcing brain power so you can create the business plan faster because you don't have to completely depend on your own brain power and your own energy resources. Remember, our brain is powered by chemicals and sort of self-generated electricity. Ai is plugged into the mains right, so it has a much more stable power supply than we do. Um, and then medium charge work we can outsource completely and we're going to see much more of this, um, I think, in the coming weeks and months where we'll see businesses have invested significant sums of money into agentic ai that are basically digital workers, but they can take a lot of the mundane work off our plate, which means it frees up more recharge time. We don't need to be working at the desk till 11 o'clock at night and that means we can better charge our brain power up for those high charge moments.
Speaker 1:So I appreciate you might not be a cricket fan, you might not. You might not know even what cricket is, um, or sort of what the rules are, etc. But I think we can kind of see, just as people that are high performing in normal life the people that are high performing in any sporting arena, they share one common skill set, which is what I would call brain state intelligence. It's just that in our normal lives we can now start to use AI technologies to supercharge that. So I hope that's a helpful insight and it's got you thinking.
Speaker 1:As I said at the start, I think things are really going to ramp up now. So if you've been thinking about whether it's reading, train your brain for the higher revolution, doing the new mini course, even been thinking about becoming a brain state intelligence practitioner or even becoming a certified coach, or you're thinking about actually my people need some training on this, now is the time to do it. That's what every data point I've seen suggests. So get ahead of this curve. Don't get left behind and use this exciting period of history to benefit you, to benefit your family, to benefit the people you work with. You know. Don't look back in six months and regret kind of missing the opportunity to get ahead. And it doesn't matter where our brain state intelligence is right now. We can improve it and that's why we always say you only have a one brain state habit away.
