What's going on, everyone and welcome to Saying it Out Loud. A podcast created to help people who want to learn more about fitness and life. Our podcast will help you build a foundation and turn fitness into a lifestyle and help you conquer your life. I will be your host, leo, and my co-host.
Speaker 2:Stephanie, and we're the owners of a how athletics coaching business built on our belief that clients aren't just a dollar sign and they're human. Now on to the episode.
Speaker 1:What's going on everyone, and welcome back to Saying it Out Loud it's a new year, same us Been a while, guys. We've missed you, been busy dealing with life, and that's what this episode is going to be all about. So before we get started on that, let's hit you with a question of the day. I forgot how to do this thing. Question of the day. Question of the day how is your 2025 going so far? Did you keep to your resolution? Have you quit your resolution? Did you even try your resolution? Give it a little bit. All right, if you couldn't answer it, then maybe this episode will help inspire you to get back out there and get things done.
Speaker 1:So, like I said, this episode is going to be about our year 2024, up until now, and some of our future plans and things that we want to get accomplished. So 2024 was rough. There's no getting past that. I'm pretty sure everybody felt some type of way about 2024 and it was extremely draining for the most part, but day in, day out, we still had to wake up and get work done, take care of our clients. We were going through the struggles. They were going through the struggles and they counted on us to be there for them, so we had to make sure we were there for them and thankfully we have an amazing marriage and we were there for each other to help each other through the hard times, because you know both people in the marriage can't be suffering, because then you just go downhill real fast.
Speaker 1:So I stay strong for both of us you serious right now well, jokes aside, you know we were definitely there for each other when the other one was down in the dumps, and we would just lift each other up and then keep going. So I mean, where do you want to start?
Speaker 2:I don't know what we did last year. Everything we did last year, I guess.
Speaker 1:Well, I can't even.
Speaker 2:Can you remember what we did last year?
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, okay, let's start with. One of our better accomplishments was that my mother invited us to a farmer's market down in Dallas, mckinney, texas, and I was able to sell my cookies down there for $10 a cookie.
Speaker 2:His cookies are ginormous.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and they're worth $2 a lot.
Speaker 2:Best cookies in Texas, for sure.
Speaker 1:That's what I thought, but it's funny because I sold more cookies down there than I did with my website and I understand I launched the website, which is because that's what I wanted to do and I really don't have a massive following or a lot of support from people. So I was like you know, I'm just going to launch my website and see how it goes. Obviously it didn't do as well as I would like it to have, but when my mom gave me this opportunity, I wasn't going to pass it up. So I went down there and we made like what? $200?.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, we bought. We almost sold all of his cookies.
Speaker 1:Yeah, there was 50 cookies and I only had the trash that was left over.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then what was left? She almost sold all of it.
Speaker 1:The next time, the following weekend or something like that. She froze them and stuff. So that was one of the better accomplishments, that when I told my mom she's like how much are you going to sell them for? And I was like $10. And she's like that's kind of high but I was like I mean, I think they're worth it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, some other guy at that place sells those cookies for like $2, $5, for like $2 or $3. They're not worth it. They're not worth $2. Like those cookies were not good at all.
Speaker 1:They're like 1 fourth the size of my cookie yeah, but taste wise, they're not good either.
Speaker 2:So it inspired us anyways to sell them $10. And then my mom was like yeah, but taste wise, they're not good either. So that inspired us anyways. Yeah, and that's like ten dollars.
Speaker 1:And then my mom was like, why don't you just give out samples? I was like, if I can't sell my cookie off of parents alone, then I'm not, I'm not doing my job. Yeah, so we were able to sell all of them without samples, but then I wouldn't. My mom wanted to try samples and see if we can get more. So we tried some samples and mean it was about the same. It wasn't really a big change. So I'm proud of that accomplishment. And, like I said, if you want cookies, I'm the guy. My website's not up right now. So if you want cookies, just DM me. I make cookies for everybody, bro, for free, paid for, I be bringing cookies. Any opportunity I get to bring some cookies, bro, I'm bringing them.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we brought cookies for all the events our friend Ariana has had.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, so yeah, there was that, so that was a good one, and then, of course, we went on our cruise.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:His first time in a cruise. Why was it my first time?
Speaker 2:why was it my first time? Are you talking about tampa? Listen, okay, we were supposed to go on a cruise when we're living in tampa, but, um, we showed up on time and apparently that's not what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to show up, like to like the airport, right, but I didn't know that, because every time I've gone to the to cruise one, I was a kid. So what do kids do? They have adult to lead them to where they had to go, so I don't really know anything.
Speaker 2:This time around, though, he had the app, he had everything set up yeah, because I would come prepared yeah, and we flew to miami.
Speaker 2:Um, because we live in texas currently, if you don't know and, uh, the only port is galveston and anything that comes out of galveston is pretty much going to Mexico. And yeah, we're not trying to risk our life, I'm sorry um. So we flew out to Miami and we went to Bahamas yeah, it was, it wasn't even like it was their island, which was nice, it was pretty, but like I listen, let's just, let's just say it, say it I'll go back, just say it, bro.
Speaker 1:What say what you want to say what do I want to say?
Speaker 2:that puerto rico has better beaches. Oh yeah, of course, even saint thomas has better beaches, saint thomas way better coca-cola was okay yeah, we also went during a hurricane yeah, so the days got shifted.
Speaker 1:We were supposed to like sell for two days, but since the hurricane we had to stay in port for two days.
Speaker 2:Yeah it's so weird because if you saw like the map, it's like it, literally like the ship would like go in a circle and then like port at miami and then like go in a circle and port in Miami is freaking insane.
Speaker 2:But yeah, we went to only one destination because apparently we found out the cruise that we were supposed to go Haiti but since Haiti was having like civil war, we couldn't go there. So only one destination, which is not what I'm used to. I'm used to doing like island hopping, so eventually I want him to experience that, because those islands are really nice yeah, I completely misunderstood what the cruise was.
Speaker 1:I was always under the impression that you get on a ship, you cruise, and you get to an island, then you cruise to another island yeah, but I was just like cruise to another one four days not cruise in a circle for two days and then go to one place well, it was a hurricane too, but yeah but those tacos on coco k okay let's talk about the food I had six of them, hoes the food was extremely mid I could have just stayed here and had worse food.
Speaker 2:Yes, san antonio, it was very.
Speaker 1:Except for the first day, that chicken tikka masala.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but that was at the.
Speaker 1:At the Windbreaker.
Speaker 2:Yeah, windjammer, yeah, windbreaker, not the anime. The food was extremely mid. We met a family from Canada so we made friends and we sat with them for dinner because they have, like you know, like fancy dinner and every single time we sat with them we ate that food extremely mid. We'd have to go all the way upstairs to the buffet to try to like eat extra mid food so we could actually like be somewhat full. We, uh we drink a lot of water. If you don't know, you're supposed to at least drink a gallon a day. Um, so we had to get a water bottle service and that was the most expensive water bottles that I've ever bought in my entire life.
Speaker 1:How much did you pay for those water bottles?
Speaker 2:I think it was for a 12 pack, like 30 bucks it was.
Speaker 1:it was absolutely insane and like that was before they charged us, before they told us the price yeah, also I'm not picky with water.
Speaker 2:Mister right here is very picky with water. He's very bougie bougie with the taste of tap water. So I I'm fine with tap water, right I've transcended normal human yeah so, um, yeah, that was one of the biggest at fall um. The gym was very tiny so it was kind of like a outboard to navigate, but we still worked out there's actually a lot of people working out yeah, well, I mean, we weren't really doing much, we were just yeah, but I still don't expect a normal population, I guess, um at sea doing absolutely nothing.
Speaker 2:So we got our workout in we got our steps in and we just ate food that was made.
Speaker 2:So hopefully next time we go we go on a better ship it's a royal caribbean still, but I mean you know um, we're gonna renew this one, yeah hopefully we go to a better one, that's island hopping so you can experience actual cruise. But yes, that was one of our destinations. We also went to saint thomas when we went to puerto rico once, um, because saint thomas is like 15 minute flight from puerto rico, so we did like a like one night there and we literally went to all the beaches around the island. St thomas is expensive as hell, um, but it's beautiful beaches wise. So I always recommend just doing like one day. I don't feel like it's necessary to stay more than one day at all. My mom wanted to stay longer. I'm like it's not.
Speaker 1:I don't feel like it's necessary but it wouldn't be bad, but because the beaches are way better, yeah, but the food is expensive as well. The food is expensive. But yeah, I had the best ice cream and best mexican food in san thomas.
Speaker 2:Yeah, which is sad because I live in texas and you expect texas has some good mexican food but, we live in san antonio as well so so far in san antonio in sonia we've only had two restaurants that are good and that is good based on all the restaurants that we've had in san antonio. Okay, because it's not like good in the sense of all the foods and the restaurants that we tried in different cities.
Speaker 1:I think I think vicious eats is by far the best burger I've had in america. I think Vicious Eats is by far the best burger I've had in America Name a better burger. Please Really Name a better burger.
Speaker 2:please Go ahead. I think the Austin one the food truck in Austin was better. No, because it wasn't seasoned.
Speaker 1:We're going to have to go back to Vicious Eats and see, we'll see.
Speaker 2:The best burger I've ever had in my life is from turkey, though, so okay, yeah, um, apart from that, we went on a cut for four months. Yeah, yeah, very successful cut 35 pounds down. Yeah, for me and he's been able to maintain his weight off.
Speaker 2:Yeah, man, I got down to 203, emily at 208 right now yeah, and that's been two months and we like been now reversing, reverse, dieting slowly to, like you know, keep the body fat off because people want to jump straight into a bowl no, it's not worth it. It's not worth it whatsoever. Also, I have a new unit in Puerto Rico, so almost every month I fly out to Puerto Rico to drill there for four days usually. Yeah, living a good life, yeah, it's nice just to be able to see my family a little bit more frequently. It's a hassle flying there, but it's a hassle flying anywhere yeah, what else what?
Speaker 2:did we do last year.
Speaker 1:Got dominated in the gingerbread competition. I felt like we had the best one, though. Okay, okay.
Speaker 2:In all fairness though.
Speaker 1:They didn't have as many categories.
Speaker 2:Yes, they didn't have as many categories. Yeah, they didn't have as many categories and I totally understand. 2024 was a hard day, hard year, financially for literally everyone.
Speaker 1:She's like listen.
Speaker 2:I'm broke. Yeah, so we did not win, but it was still an experience. We did our Scooby-Doo mystery machine. Yeah, it's on the IGs if you want to check it out. Yeah, it was so fun experience. It was not a fun experience getting there because the traffic was absolutely insane.
Speaker 2:It took us almost like an hour and a half extra yeah, it's supposed to take us like an hour and a half almost two hours to get there. It took like an hour and a half almost two hours to get there. It took us an hour and a half extra, like we barely made it, and it was raining too. So it was not the best. I cannot stand Austin whatsoever. But what else did we do? We spent more time with our friendsler and stephanie and their kids. We spent thanksgiving with them.
Speaker 2:They're ginormous. Okay, they're very, very tall what?
Speaker 1:tyler's six, two, stephanie's six, five, six, six.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we feel super tiny but we had thanksgiving with them too and we cooked and they got to try our food or my food and his treats well, they already knew my stuff was good yeah, um, so you know, we were more social we did.
Speaker 1:We did one more event we did a year prior we made new friends this past year yada oh you know you met tyler and seth and then our canadian family friends yeah, we did it.
Speaker 1:Then, yeah, called get out of your freaking house yes and be sociable sociable. There you go yeah, even though last year was very, very rough, we still prioritize living our life regardless yeah, even if we just it's the moment you let that fear take a hold of you, the moment you lost. Yeah, we were in a financial strife, but it's like, bro, we can't just sit here and sulk about it yeah so we still enjoyed ourselves when we could because, money's gonna come yeah, eventually, which, I guess, is that all we did last year hit 390 on bench press.
Speaker 1:I know you need the 405, but I got the 390 he's gonna get there yeah freaking. You're adult and then one end, we're dealt and then straight one end to the cut.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, as much as you want to maintain strength, which I feel like we did a really good job at that, um, you didn't.
Speaker 1:You don't feel like you did a good job at maintaining strength because I really don't sure I couldn't binge for like two and a half months okay.
Speaker 2:Well, I would say what I'm maintaining a lot of strength, but once you get to like that very, very low calorie point, um, it's normal for you to not have the strength that you used to have, but we're slowly getting back into strength wise and getting on that goals of this year. I even I forgot what my goals were supposed to be this year in terms of weight, apart from hitting 405 on deadlift.
Speaker 1:That's all I care about is hitting 405 on bench.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, so we'll get there.
Speaker 1:So we'll be a lifetime goal ahead.
Speaker 2:And then, yeah, what else did we do?
Speaker 1:I don't think we did anything else. Yeah so brings us to this year.
Speaker 2:So far I'm drilled, might or might not take command of my unit, we'll see. I was acting commander this past weekend, um, and he will be soon in the military back in the mother freaking military in the military. Again, the details we have no idea. Yeah, still waiting on all that I don't think anyone knows any details yet, so but we will soon find out where we're going, what's gonna happen and uh, staff sergeant makins is back never thought I'd be saying those words again.
Speaker 1:I thought I was done with all that, but hey, it's your time, it's your time yeah.
Speaker 2:so goals for this year 405 for him on 405 on that list for me, if I can even touch 315 on squats would be freaking amazing. We'll seeats is my biggest lift, for sure and then find out where we're moving to.
Speaker 1:Yeah, Hopefully it's either Florida or freaking PR.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it'd be great too.
Speaker 1:Listen, I love Texas, but God dang, San Antonio sucks.
Speaker 2:I am over not having the beach accessible and having to do layovers and stuff. To go to puerto rico is a nightmare.
Speaker 1:Yeah, um the water is a must yes, if you if you've never been on a boat and just in the middle of the ocean, just sitting there, bro, it's the most peaceful experience you can ever experience. Yeah, there's no, bro, there's nothing. There's nothing better. You're just there and there's no.
Speaker 2:There's no noise yeah, and that's I mean I'm, I mean I come from, so we're used to at least every weekend going to the beach once a week. So I'm, uh what spoiled in that way and I feel like it would help us a lot. Life-wise, stress-wise, you just feel like your stress just melts away. Um, and there's just no good beaches here. It's too far. And I'm over the food scene as well. Honestly, it's not. I've seen videos that Austin and Dallas and Houston have better food.
Speaker 1:We're the real food testers.
Speaker 2:At this point. It doesn't make me want to move to Houston or Dallas or anything like that.
Speaker 1:We've lived in Dallas for six months, not going back to that freaking hell hole.
Speaker 2:No, so we'll find out soon Any other goals that you have for this year.
Speaker 1:To be a better human being, to improve, to help my clients improve. I want to sell more cookies. I want to sell like a thousand cookies. That's my cookie call A thousand cookies. Just bring awareness to my, to my, my baking Cause I think people will be sleeping on me.
Speaker 2:Yeah, for sure, his cookies are amazing and everyone that has them they're just freaking in awe of how good his cookies are, even though he doesn't like the flavors or whatever. He's just in awe of them. Yeah, his cookies are amazing, but I don't know, I don't know, but I don't know, I don't know, we are committing to at least one podcast episode a month. We, uh, we were like doing one every week to one every two weeks and like we gave up last month, that last year um.
Speaker 1:I think the last one was august we didn't give up just not in the right headspace to yeah information yeah, it's just a lot, um, but at least one new podcast episode every month.
Speaker 2:We are guest appearing in a podcast next week actually, um. So, depending on how that goes, I think it's not my. It's not my first guest appearance. This is first guest appearance at a podcast, but some people like will let you repost on your channel, some people don't, so we'll find out, and if it doesn't, then we'll just create another podcast episode for February. But, yeah, at least something to give you guys more value, apart from, I mean, you know all the value that we try to bring into Instagram.
Speaker 1:We try to bring all the value that we do bring yeah.
Speaker 2:I say try, because when you have business coaches, you know, you just feel sometimes like you're just not bringing enough value based on what they say or based on, like, how people respond to our posts.
Speaker 1:So based on us, yeah, trying to bring even more value to you guys yeah, I definitely switched on my content style, so if you watch my content now, it's more long-form content, because that's that's what he prefers.
Speaker 1:That's the most valuable thing. It's like if you actually listen to what I'm saying, then it's going to help you. But if you just skip it because you have a short attention span or because I don't have some catchy title or because it's not flashy enough for you, so just watch it. I mean honestly, if you can't sit through a freaking two-minute video, bro, that says something about you, not me.
Speaker 2:Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, the goal is to revamp our business even more, help more people. Last year was a struggle, but hopefully we can expand more this year because it's what we want. Like we've helped a lot of like clients regardless last year, um, but yeah, I feel like we can do a lot more for a lot more people out there and, um, that's that's honestly our goal every year. Eventually we'll open up a gym, but for now, that's always my coaching.
Speaker 1:That's always the goal is to help yeah and to show people that we take a more humane approach to our coaching than a lot of these coaches out there. Like I said and like we keep saying, we're not taking in hundreds of clients. Okay, we take in a select amount of clients because one we realize that we are humans and we can only help. We can only give so much away to a certain amount of people yeah, and a hundred people.
Speaker 2:You can surprise how many coaches out there have like 70 to 100 clients per one coach how can you freaking help?
Speaker 1:how can you be your athletic self? How can you customize each one of their programs?
Speaker 1:yeah so we will continue to burn our authentic selves like we are the same people on social media that we are in real life. There's no flip-flopping there. We're not pretending to be somebody that we're not in. Our lived experience is what helps us coach our clients, because we have been in the same spot you guys have been in. Only difference is is that we pulled ourselves out of that hole, and now we are reaching our hands down to pull you up out of your hole.
Speaker 2:All you have to do is want it yeah yeah, we believe in just walking the walk, or whatever walking the walk?
Speaker 2:I don't know, whatever, whatever the saying is um, anyways, yeah, if you see our lifestyle like, a lot of people might not think it's like you know for them or whatever. But that's honestly what I feel like a lot of people need to not only accomplish their goals but maintain their goals and be healthy. Um, it's not just about forcing balance to the point that you're just eating whatever. It's not forcing balance to the point that you know you're like barely making changes, like, yeah, we, we live our lifestyle the way that I know, like our clients want to look and want to feel and want to be, and once we get to the point that, like where we're at, it's a lot easier.
Speaker 2:But of course, we've been there like it's not easy to start, um, and there's just way too much conflicting information in the internet of people just telling you you don't have to do this, you don't have to do that or you don't. You know, you could just count your macros and eat whatever, etc. But thankfully, this year I feel like a lot more awareness is going to come to food and food quality and toxicity levels and stuff like that, which is very needed in America, for for sure, because that is something that's like super eye-opening to our clients Once they like start going through the process of, like healing and, you know, cutting things out, etc. Like just how much of a difference it makes in their life. We feel the difference too. Life, we feel the difference too. Like we tried at the cruise, we try to eat like as clean as possible, um, with what they have, especially like I try to eat like prioritize more protein and, like you know, simple carbs and stuff, like then eating all these treats and burgers.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:And it helps a lot like how you feel versus you know, just bawling out of control for no reason and, honestly, the food wasn't even worth it in my opinion, but that's honestly how we kind of like carry ourselves when we're traveling too, and it makes a huge difference in how you feel You're allowed to like enjoy your food but also, like you know, understand your body and what your body needs, and it makes a difference and that's part of, like the education process that we go through with our clients, because you know we want you to like maintain your goals for life instead of yo-yo dieting and losing weight. Getting away and losing weight again.
Speaker 1:That's just not worth it to me yeah, a big, a big thing that I want to help people understand this year is that healing is more than just physical. A lot of you guys aren't doing any type of internal work like self-reflection or anything, and you listen to these people on the internet that tell you oh, you're okay the way you are. You're not Okay, we need to get. We need to move past that, because the situation you're in right now I guarantee you that 95% of you don't enjoy where you're at right now. You don't want to be there, and the only way to move past that is to come to that realization and realize hey, I need to improve myself to get out of this situation.
Speaker 1:If you don't do any type of self-improvement, any type of self-reflection, you're going to always be miserable. That's just how it's going to be. It doesn't matter how much you work out. It doesn't matter how much you say the gym is therapy, and much you work out doesn't how much you say the gym is therapy. And if you keep saying the gym is therapy, go to the gym for therapy, but never address your actual problems, then you're never going to make headway in the gym. So you need to fix your problems and you do that by becoming a better person, by realizing that you need to take some self-accountability yeah, self-reflection and you need to take responsibility for your actions yeah, it makes a huge difference.
Speaker 2:Um, a lot of people that we see sometimes they quote unquote say they want to change but they don't and it'll make your lifestyle a lot harder. Um, I see a lot of people that I've talked to for four years, five years, doing this business and they're still in the same spot that they were five years ago. They've probably gone through three to four coaches, nameless amount of like a countless amount of times doing a challenge or some ebook or whatever and they're still in the same spot. They might have lost weight and then gained it all back whatever it is.
Speaker 2:And it sucks to see that because, like, I know how much value and how much more changes like we can bring to our clients. So they just, you know, sign up with us and stuck to it and not follow what we give them instead of doing all this other stuff that isn't making them any better whatsoever. Um, so if this, this is one of you, this is a freaking sign to actually, you know, just being scared and signing up with other coaches and then regretting it and wasting time and money. And just sign up with us, you're going to get results. Like, we can definitely guarantee that because our clients get a huge amount of results when they follow the plan.
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm get a huge amount of results when they follow the plan. And I'll say this uh, people want to complain about the price, but the price you pay to remain the same is going to be far higher than the price you pay to change.
Speaker 2:Yeah honestly, brothers coaches out there charging a thousand dollars for half of what we include in our coaching and like a lot less communication too. So well how do you know?
Speaker 1:this because we sit in on the calls with them yes, that's how we know.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yes, and it's like coaches that don't even live their lives lifestyle like it's. It's it's frustrating to see, honestly, but, um, we're not changing our prices. It's, it's a set price and it includes everything. Um, but yeah, it's a lot of people that will say that it's, it's not about the price objections. You guys like being scared about it and thinking that someone less cheap is going to help you. And you know, you've been there before, so you know nothing new to you?
Speaker 2:Exactly, it's not going to be something that's going to help. So just kind of like, bypass that and, uh, actually sign up with us yeah.
Speaker 1:It's going to change your life. You've done everything else yeah, okay. So actually sign up with us yeah, it'll change your life. You've done everything else yeah, okay. So hopefully you guys enjoyed this episode, catch you up on what we're doing and our future goals and from this episode you can tell you're still the exact same people and we have not changed. Like we said, we walk the walk and we talk, that talk and wow.
Speaker 1:And if you sign up with us, you will get results if you stick to the plan. That's the key here. Stick to the plan, yeah. But in order for you to stick to the plan, you have to shed your old self and start coming into your new self, because the old you got you to where you are. So why do you think that old you is going to get you somewhere new? Not going to happen. So it's a partnership. We got to work together on this. Okay, we want to get you there, but you have to want to get there, and that's how it works. So sign up with us, give us a try and if we don't work out, guess what? You'll be better off have given us a try and have learned new things than signing up with somebody else, who's just going to keep giving you the runaround for far less than what we do?
