Hey friend, welcome to the Soulfully You podcast with coach Chris Rodriguez. I'm a movement and mindset coach, and I believe in a deeper way of living, a more soulful way of being. Join me each week for conversations about how to put a little more soul. It's our work, our relationships, and our every day lives. Sometimes you just need to hit record and just say some things, get some things off your chest, you know, what's up, family? This episode is just me checking in with you. I feel like every day the news cycle is just moving so fast. There's a level of trust that a lot of folks have lost in media and businesses. We've been lost trust in the news. I heard somebody say, if you want to know if something actually happened or not, TMZ is probably more reliable than a mainstream news source and that's wild and at times it's very true. So for my check in with y'all, I just wanted to ask a few questions to you and for you to ask yourself. That'll just help you maneuver through the craziness and the uncertainty. So the first question is, when you're in go mode, when you're in hustle mode, when you're in kill mode, and you're kind of putting your nose down, you're like, I kind of got tunnel vision. I just need to get this stuff done. I need to focus. I need to be productive. Who are the people in your life that can say, wait, hold on. Or can I stop you for a minute? These are the people in your life that will keep you grounded. There's times when we're just like, all right, we got to go, go, go, go, go. And we are just surviving through doing and going. These people are great because they'll stop you. When you're trying to avoid something that you need to work through, but they'll also stop you when you try to bypass the moments of celebration. I think sometimes you accomplish so much in your life and then it's just on to the next thing, but you need somebody to say like, wait, hold up. That was important. That was significant. That was special. Stop celebrate. When those people stop you, let that be an invitation for you, whether it's stopping you to celebrate or stopping you to take inventory on something that might need to change or, sit with you about something that's really hard that you just kind of are bypassing. Hopefully those people are the ones that. give you safety to let down your guard and let down your armor. Another question I want you to ask yourself is when was the last time I felt really good? Was it on a vacation? Was it, This random little moment at home with the family. Was it during one of your favorite workout classes? Was it at brunch with the girls? Was it a self care day? Was it a massage? When was the last time you felt really good? It's important to remind ourselves of those moments. Because one just thinking about them brings in the memories of the things that make us feel good. But also it is a reminder like, Oh, when can I do that again? And making it a non negotiable that this has to happen again soon. Now, some things like a vacation, obviously that can't happen like all the time. Unless, you know, you got that lifestyle. I know some folks that have figured out a way to turn their work into these opportunities for many vacations and many trips. Hey, bless you. More power to you. One day. One day. But for most of us, the vacation isn't always the thing you can do. Like every month, every week, right? Based on the seasons and where you live, like going to the beach, that might be something that's really self-care for you and makes you feel so good, but it's too cold, right? Find places and activities that can simulate some of those experiences. So maybe it's not the warm day at the beach. Maybe it's a nice day in the sauna. Maybe it's not a extravagant vacation, but maybe it is a spa day. My homie's mom used to always say, The only reason for a vacation is to remind you that you need another vacation. And I feel that sentiment. And we get to this point of feeling that way because we take so long. To take a rest, take a break, do something for ourselves and doing something for yourselves doesn't always have to require a lot of money, all right? Doing something for yourselves doesn't always have to require a lot of money. The times where I've felt the best. are not necessarily when I spent the most money, but it always revolved around having the right people or if it's just me by myself it's having the right intention. So then the part B to that question is how can I make every space a feel good space for myself? And this last question, I'm reminded of it as my dog is laying on the couch snoring his brains out. pitbulls, they snore when they sleep, and it's the cutest thing. When was the last time I felt at rest? When was the last time I felt at rest? When I talk about rest, I'm not just talking about sleep. Having a good night's sleep, that's important too. When I'm talking about the opposite. Of working. I'm talking about restoration. Relaxation. There's no raised cortisol levels happening in your body. Rest. For some people, it's very hard to find rest in your home outside of like actual sleeping because of everything that's going on. You got family, you got responsibilities. So is there a place that you can go that is restful? For those folks that have the space and the infrastructure at home. Is there a space in your house for rest? What intentions can you set around rest? Here in the United States, the richest dude in the world started a department in the government and told his employees prove to me. That you're working or you'll get fired. This is the energy that people are moving with these days. And with these kinds of micromanaged, unrealistic forms of productivity being pushed at us from some of the biggest companies and CEOs in the world. And one of them that just happens to work for the government now. Rest becomes radical, revolutionary. It becomes a form of protest. It becomes a form of dissent. It also becomes a form of power and showing that you are in control of your circumstances. Y'all know I'm a preacher's kid. There's a story in the Bible. Jesus is laying on the boat, sleeping. Storm's coming. Everybody's freaking out. Like, yo, Jesus, you don't care about us? What you doing sleeping?Like I'm sleeping because I'm unbothered. Okay? I know I'm in control of this circumstance. I know we got this. I think there is a sleepiness that is avoidance. But rest is a reclaiming. Today was short and sweet. I just want to give you a few things to check in with yourself about and find the practices and people who are feeding your soul.
