Trisha BuckAnd we're back.
Kat GarciaWoo.
Trisha BuckI always wanted to say that. And we're back.
Kat GarciaAnd we're back. And this time it's a new cord
Trisha BuckUhhuh
Kat Garciaso no one can chew on it.
Trisha BuckOh yeah. Excellent.
Kat GarciaAnd destroy our recordings.
Trisha BuckCut it off.
Kat GarciaYeah. Mm-hmm.
Trisha BuckAnd just spend three hours talking. Nothing recorded.
Kat GarciaNothing recorded. Yeah. Cause
Trisha BuckOr just silence. Christ
Kat Garciafucking, I wonder who would've done that? Ala.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm.
Kat GarciaDo you know? No.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm.
Kat GarciaOkay. Well, alright. I am here talking with my lovely friend, Trisha. Trisha, do you wanna introduce yourself?
Trisha BuckHello, I'm Tricia and I am. Here for a good time. Not for a long time.
Kat GarciaWhat's the other one we came up with today? Uh oh. A low ball is better than, no, no ball. Yeah. At the garage. Tricia had a garage, an estate sale. That ended today. Yes. It was three days. It's very successful transitioning.
Trisha BuckThat's what Transitioning in life.
Kat GarciaTransitioning in life
Trisha Buckin all the ways. Yeah, but it's good and bad.
Kat GarciaI mean, this year, this year's been a lot of transitions in general, but it's been a lot of transitions for you.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckI have a lot of things, but, um,
Kat Garciaand this, you know,
Trisha Buckdelayed processing, like I say, yeah, I have a little bit of delayed processing. I'll do that later.
Kat GarciaThat's so real. I mean, and it's easier you get to compartmentalize.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaAnd you gave up drinking. I gave up drinking. Let's talk about that. Let's talk about that. Okay.
Trisha BuckI gave up drinking for a year for no particular reason. I have no issues with binge drinking, those kinds of things. It was more of a disciplinary thing. I just wanted to see. I've never chosen to do anything disciplinary like that, so I just decided to do it to see if I could. Not do something that I like doing for a year. Yeah. And it's fine. Like I don't, I can't really report that I'm like super upset about it or
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckAnything like that. But it's been a challenge because my friends, you know, didn't stop drinking. So I have Dr. Pepper.
Kat GarciaYou, do you have a Dr. Pepper? I try to have just
Trisha BuckDr. Pepper.
Kat GarciaI try to have soda options.
Trisha BuckYeah. What do I have today? I do love a soda and I give
Kat Garciathat up. Oh, I've got, I've got ginger ale. Because Ginger, I am in fact an old person as we have established, um, many times. Many times. There's some fresca, there's cranberry, raspberry juice, Uhhuh, uh. There's probably other things. Mm-hmm. I could make you tea. Like so many options. You have wonderful teas. I have so many tea options. You have
Trisha Buckbougie teas?
Kat GarciaI do. I like anything with bougie. I do. Although I did discover it was suggested to me by the Safeway app Uhhuh, because sometimes it likes to be like, I think you'd like this. I'm like, no I don't, but maybe I do. I'm gonna try. So they had this box, it's like, it's like 50 tea bags, Uhhuh, and it's like. English tea. That's the type of tea.
Trisha BuckUhhuh.
Kat GarciaBlack English tea.
Trisha BuckJust black tea.
Kat GarciaYeah. Doesn't tell me anything about it. I try it doesn't have a particular flavor characteristic. Uhhuh like, you know, bergamot tastes like Earl Gray tastes very bergamot tea. Yeah. Because, you know, um, oolong tastes very earthy, like whatever.
Trisha BuckSo it's got nothing to help you figure out what it,
Kat Garciano. There, there are no. Distinguishing qualities that I've been able to find about this tea. But God damnit, if I don't enjoy drinking it, it's good. It's good. That's what I had in my mug today, that I slurped down.
Trisha BuckOh yeah. But I'm like, is it like you, have you ever had Dutch rose tea? I swear that's my favorite. Like hot tea? No, I just like their tea. I don't think I ever realized
Kat Garciathey have tea. I know they have chai.
Trisha BuckThey have tea. Just tea, huh? Well. It's their black tea. That's good. Okay. Okay. Like I don't, I don't really like green tea, so I don't drink it. Yeah. But their black tea is Paris Tea. I was drinking it so much that I was like, I need to find this more affordably. So I asked the girl like, what kind of tea is it? And she said, Paris Tea. So I went and looked it up and you can buy it on Amazon. It's not cheap tea.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckIt's, but it's good. Teas delicious. It's like got a flowery sweetness to it that,
Kat GarciaOoh.
Trisha BuckI don't know. I love it.
Kat GarciaThat sounds really good. I like the flavor. Yeah, yeah. But no, so it's just like, it's like black tea. I'm like, okay, black tea. Just black tea. Like, all right. Like that L, right. It's just like, it's like generic. It's like Folgers. It's like Folgers. Yeah, but it's British and it's tea
Trisha Buckall I like that.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckSo it's just like a generic, regular, old, regular. And it's in a purple box, British tea.
Kat GarciaClearly they marketed it well. 'cause it's in a purple box. Yeah. Um, yeah. So that was my, that was my tea ramble for, for this adventure.
Trisha BuckI love good tea.
Kat GarciaSo none of your friends stopped drinking? I know. I, nobody stopped drinking. Did not stop drinking.
Trisha BuckUm, they're all courteous to me. Like all, every, all of you are like, except for the love my life. Cindy, bless her. She's like, you're an idiot. I'm gonna make a dream.
Kat GarciaGet out my house. I mean, the, the, you picked an interesting year to give up drinking. I think I
Trisha Buckdid a lot going on this year. Mm-hmm. In the world and my life. Uhhuh, uh, so interesting. Interesting. More on the disciplinary front, you know, like that's just Yeah. To be disciplined.
Kat GarciaSo what made you feel like you wanted to discipline yourself? Ooh. Discipline. I
Trisha Buckmet,
Kat GarciaI yes, I I have met you. This one
Trisha Buckperson of anything in the world. The
Kat Garciapeople listening might not have met you. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Trisha BuckWell, I realize I, I just don't, you know, I am very Gemini in that way. I don't stick with things. I fly with the wind, you know? Yeah. I just go with it. And if I'm doing something and I'm like, this is not making me happy anymore, I just stop doing it.
Kat GarciaYeah, that makes sense. And drinking was just not making you happy or was it stressing you out?
Trisha BuckNo, I was fine with drinking. It's the, when the not drinking doesn't make me happy anymore. I have to remain sober.
Kat GarciaOh.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaOkay. That makes sense. And that's
Trisha Buckthe challenge part of it. 'cause it's, I mean, and drinking is like a thing, it's also a social thing.
Kat GarciaRight.
Trisha BuckUh, there was a while there where I, I would go to, so I'd have a bit of a little panic because normally I'd, I'd drink socially and then, you know
Kat GarciaRight.
Trisha BuckI don't sit and drink alone or anything. But
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckUm,
Kat Garciais it alone if it's with your cat?
Trisha BuckNo.
Kat GarciaGreat. You're not alone. Yes, I'm set. You are not alone. Your cats are here always. They're always fucking here. I can't go to the bathroom. Can't away from them. No. I've had to evict them from the office multiple days this week.
Trisha BuckInternal toddlers. You're never gonna get away from 'em.
Kat GarciaNope, not ever.
Trisha BuckThey'll hunt you down
Kat Garciaever. Ever.
Trisha BuckThey'll find you.
Kat GarciaThey often do.
Trisha BuckYeah. So that is the challenge part is, um. To not just like be, do whatever I want. Yeah. Even when I want to like be loosey goosey and have a good time and have a drink. No.
Kat GarciaDo you feel like it forced you? Not forced you, but Hold on a second. This is doing dumb shit. Are we going? Yes. Okay. I was like, why are you moving? Um, do you feel like it forced you to find different ways to be social or have to Oh, be social? It forced me
Trisha Buckdifferently. It forced me to, yeah. Be social differently.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckBecause I, I like having fun. I like you are a good time. I don't like feeling anxious when I'm with people. So if I am with people and. I would just, you know, have a drink and if I wouldn't have like 15 drinks, but you know, just a couple sips and or having something in your hand. Anything like that.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckYeah. Can, like you do with knitting. Yes. It, uh, sort of makes you relax little, it little it regulates you. Yeah.
Kat GarciaSpeaking of which, let me just roll over here and grab it. Yeah. It regulates you Totally. Not that you're dysregulating me, but it's weird sitting and not getting Yeah. Because that's what you do, is what I, people, people worry when I'm Yeah. Not knitting, which I think is, yeah. I always feel like when I,
Trisha Buckfunny, I don't really overly think about it, but when I do talk about it, I'm like, well, it sounds like I rely on drinking to like lose, you know, relax my, and I mean, everyone does a little bit Yeah. If you're a social drinker, but it's not, um, it's not an extreme thing, you know? No. It's just
Kat Garciaa no. I mean, I never thought it was, yeah. Definitely. But, um, what I remember in the, the early, like the first month, month and a half Yeah. You, if we were gonna go somewhere, it'd be like, Hey, do you wanna go? And you'd be like, well, where are you going? And we'd tell you and you're like, no, I don't wanna go.
Trisha BuckYeah. Like, which, which made sense, you know, how can I maintain this? I do. I couldn't quite maintain it at that time.
Kat GarciaYeah,
Trisha Buckyeah.
Kat GarciaWell 'cause it's, it is still, or I
Trisha Buckwasn't confident there.
Kat GarciaRight. And it was something you were still adjusting to and it was still really new. Mm-hmm. But now like we can go places and you're like Yeah, I'm good. Yeah. I'm the dd. You are. You are. You're gonna be the DD for my birthday. I'm happy to do it. Just really entertaining. 'cause you're gonna get some real good pictures of all of us being yahoos. I mean, we won't have videos of the back of the car like last year. We will the windows. Oh, we'll, okay. I
Trisha Buckmean, if Ellie's there, you're gonna get a video. That's true.
Kat GarciaShe loves her videos. She does love her videos. She does. What was, what was the hardest? I love her. I mean, they're pretty funny. I, I enjoy them the most when I know they're happening.
Trisha BuckThat's
Kat Garcianice.
Trisha BuckNo, that's actually like, what's the best part of it?
Kat GarciaI know it's the, it's the control. It's the Virgo in me that doesn't like that. I'm
Trisha Bucktrying to swipe the camera away from her.
Kat GarciaYour phone or My personal favorite. I look over and she's holding it like this at me and I'm just, are you recording right now? Yes. The answer is always yes. She's always recording. She was always, yes, she was gonna do that. What was the thing that was hardest to adjust to about being out
Trisha Buckmy own anxiety.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckYeah. Like I never even thought of myself as an anxious person 'cause I just never deal in those kinds of thoughts, you know?
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckUm, but yeah, I am a pretty socially anxious person and when I don't have a little drinky
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckOr something to sue that like, you know, I don't take medications for those kinds of things. So, um, I don't know, I just. I felt the feelings more. I recognized them more and I was like feeling the feeling because it's so rude. I can't have fun if I'm feeling like this. So I had to do a little bit of my own therapy. Thera. Pieing. Yeah. And you know, find ways to chill myself out a little bit and tell myself, oh, these people don't hate you.
Kat GarciaCorrect.
Trisha BuckYou're allowed to be here. You don't have anywhere else to be. That's one that always gets me is I'm always feeling like I gotta go. I got, I gotta rush this 'cause I have something else, or the, oh,
Kat Garciaso and so needs me for something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just gotta get back home or whatever. Yeah. Well, and none of that, and home is like your safe space. So like, you're like, I'm home. I'm in complete control. Well, yeah. Drop your pants and sit on the cat. It's true. I mean, you got here and I was like covered in cat litter dust, which is a whole other fucking story. Yeah. You dropped your pants just like I'm changing, you know, like There we go. My pants. To be fair, my pants weren't in my bag. Yes. And my bag was out here. And we're at that point in our relationship where I don't give a fuck.
Trisha BuckGet them thighs out girl.
Kat GarciaOh my god, I love it so much. Oh my gosh. Well, and you, you and Rick both stopped drinking this year.
Trisha BuckOh yeah. 'cause Rick's not a big drinker anyway. He is not a big socializer or drinker or anything like that. So if I'm not, you know, saying, Hey, let's go, let's go out to Eaton, you know, let's go do the thing. Wine or whatever. Yeah. Then he's, he doesn't even think about.
Kat GarciaHe's like, no, Uhuh,
Trisha BuckI'm good. What a thought in his head. Sweet baby angel about that.
Kat GarciaWell, and I remember talking with Ellie. I'm like, we feel really bad. 'cause Rick bought us, he bought all this wine for the three of us to drink it. Now Trisha's not drinking.
Trisha BuckIt'll be there.
Kat GarciaIt'll be, and it'll age. It's gonna age like a fine wine. Plus the
Trisha BuckRobles cab Ss, they're aging wonderfully in, in that cabinet
Kat Garciaright now. Yeah. Yeah.
Trisha BuckThey're,
Kat Garciathey're, they're well tended to. Yeah. Yeah. I remember I was, I was telling somebody who was it? I don't even know where I was. I wasn't with any of you, which was weird. Um, maybe it was a work thing. Anyways, I was talking to somebody and they're like, oh, what kind of, what kind of drinks do you like? And I'm like, oh, I, I like wine. I mean, I like other alcohol, but I'm like, if I got to pick, I'm always going to pick one. Um, and usually I will pick red wine. Mm-hmm. Although my recent conversion to Rose, it hurts. It hurts to say I like Rose, like I will actually ask for Rose when it's just me. But band, these are rose. Very, it is, for those of you who don't know, a Van Douser is a winery in the middle of Willamette Valley. Yeah. And it's delicious. Yeah. All length Van, the show notes, you've gotta go. Van Deus is a good one, but it's so lovely. They got a lot of good wine though. And that Rose man, it's good. They got a sparkly one and still, I like the still one. It's real. I still, um, I don't remember. It was, oh, someone asked me what kind of, what kind of, you know, wine or whatever. I said, oh, well I like this one called Purple Cowboy. And they're like, oh. Like, have you tried it a couple times? I'm like, no, no. That is my go-to. Yeah. Wine. Like I found it 10 years ago at Crush Wine Bar. It's the joint. Yeah. And it's like we in our farm home days,
Trisha BuckI only want that.
Kat GarciaIt's so good and it's consistently so good. So Trisha's husband who loves us
Trisha BuckPurple Cowboy is from, is a plus rugby. That's why,
Kat Garciaand that's why you can drink it without a headache, which is perfect. So much. And, and, and Rick found out. That we loved this wine. Mm-hmm. And sweet angel that he is, he went and found it in bulk. In bulk on the internet. He got like, yeah. Two cases or something. Yeah.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm. It was all a purple cowboy. And you sent us, you sent us some picture. You're
Kat Garcialike, look at this. And we're like, what the heck? Because that's a lot of wine. Two cases. It
Trisha Buckwas a lot of wine. So good. It's so good. I cannot not wait. When it hits my tongue, it'll be like, oh, this is
Kat Garciadelicious. Purple cowboy. Purple cowboy. It is. It's so freaking good. Mm-hmm. It's always good.
Trisha BuckAnd there's something about drinking wine. Yes. It's not like drinking other things. No, it's not. It's an experience and it, at first when you start drinking wine, you're like, this is. She's like, when you're a teenager and you have a beer, you're like, this is disgusting. Why do people do this?
Kat GarciaYes. I did that with gin and tonics. My dad is a big g and t person. Mm-hmm. And so, you know, they'd let us taste that. We were not allowed to touch the bar to this day. Yeah. Yeah. It feels wrong. I will be 38 in like a week. You
Trisha Buckstill feel like you can't touch the bar at their house. Correct.
Kat GarciaIt feels like I should be. You have your
Trisha Buckown bar, so
Kat GarciaI know. Maybe that's why I've never put it in like a bar situation, Uhhuh. 'cause then it would feel bad. Yeah. Um, but you know, dad would, they'd let us try whatever they were drinking. G and ts tasted the way gasoline smells. I was like, why would you drink this? This is horrible.
Trisha BuckYeah. You're making gin. Terrible life
Kat Garciachoices.
Trisha BuckMy favorite liquor.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckDid you know Brett? And Richard were telling me this before you guys got there yesterday. Um, gin is just vodka infused with botanicals and obviously juniper berry. 'cause I think all gins are juniper. Berry is the main Yeah. Component and then whatever else you put in there. But they're just vodka Really? Yeah, vodka with that. And a lot of, um, I don't know. A lot of things use those as their base. Vodka. I mean,
Kat Garciayou can make really good vanilla with vodka.
Trisha BuckYes.
Kat GarciaVodka is a very utilitarian, it's, yeah. Vodka is the potato of alcohol. Yeah. Which is funny 'cause it's made because it could be made outta from potatoes. Potatoes doing the heavy lifting since God knows when.
Trisha BuckYeah. Yeah. Like a lot of like homeopathic, um, you know, witchy vibe. Uh. I, why can I not think of the, what are they called?
Kat GarciaPotions. Tinctures. Tinctures. There we
Trisha Buckgo. The base is, you know, a very low grade, however you say that. Vodka, like the low shelf, bottom shelf vodka.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckAnd will give you a very good tincture. Interesting. For some reason, more po. I don't know, huh? Mm-hmm. Well,
Kat GarciaI
Trisha Bucklearned something today. You don't have to buy the expensive stuff for that.
Kat GarciaThat's good to know. Vodka is.
Trisha BuckYou're mainly
Kat Garciafancy gin. Gin is fancy vodka. There we go. Gin is fancy vodka.
Trisha BuckYeah, it is. But the, I hate it. I used to hate gin and that's another thing that I had to like come around to, and now it's my favorite. It's my favorite alcohol gin.
Kat GarciaI, I like whiskey or whatever. I like whiskey.
Trisha BuckOh,
Kat Garciaum, cognac. I also have discovered that I like cognac.
Trisha BuckIs cognac sweet or dry and
Kat Garciabrutal? Um, it's all brutal. It's sweeter. It's sweeter.
Trisha BuckLike, um, yeah, I got schooled about that yesterday because we just started because they drinks, they both drink whiskey. Yeah. Richard. And
Kat Garciayeah,
Trisha Buckso we got on like, what is whiskey, what is scotch? What is bourbon? Ah, bourbon. That bourbon was the other one I was thinking of. Mm-hmm. So bourbon, sweet Scotch is actually whiskey made in Scotland. Yes. That's all it is. All whiskey made in Scotland is scotch and bourbon is made in Kentucky and bourbon is a type of whiskey that is sweet, sweeter. Okay. And then whiskey is just, uh, whiskey, uh, yeah, it's made of corn. There you go. And scotch is made. What's scotch,
Kat Garciabarley, peat and peat. A lot of Pete Moss. Pete Moss. Mm-hmm. They used, I watched. Okay. So I watched this documentary on Hulu a while ago. Uhhuh. Thank you. COVID-19. Yeah. Um, but it was about, I don't remember who it was. Glen Fitch, maybe. I don't know. It was some, um, distillery mm-hmm. In Scotland. And they used pea moss, uh, as like some of the, like the, they smoke it with pea. I don't remember. Yeah. But I'm like interest.
Trisha BuckFascinating. They put, put it with whiskey.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckOr Asian gives it that with whiskey, whatever you that
Kat Garciasy blah blah.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaMm-hmm. I don't like,
Trisha BuckI like whiskey. I would say of all those bourbon, I would like bourbon. I don't like bourbon.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckBut of all those, it's the leaf. 'cause it has a sweetness to it.
Kat GarciaI like cognac and Dad had me try it once. Um, he'd gotten some and I was like. I don't know if I like, 'cause I smelled it and it smelled really sweet. Mm-hmm. And it is definitely on the sweeter side, but I was like, I don't know if I'm gonna like this. He's like, just try it. I'm like another, uh, very thre, but I didn't throw anything on the ground 'cause I would've gotten in trouble.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm.
Kat GarciaUh, you love
Trisha Buckgetting in trouble?
Kat GarciaWell, I, I do, but not when my dad gives me a beverage in a very nice glass, then I don't wanna break it and then hear about it for 12 years. Right. Um, but yeah, no. Cognac, Kodiak, unless I need a quickie, had that, unless I need a quickie drink. Mm-hmm. And then it's Malibu and Coke. Yeah, because I referred to my college undergrad days. Rum is the party alcohol. Yeah. I used to do party girl. I can't believe this. I used to do shots of Malibu, coconut rum, just like, and you
Trisha Buckwere like, I'm hardcore, I'm gonna do this shot of Malibu. Yeah,
Kat Garciabut then I would have a shot of tequila. That's a bad combination.
Trisha BuckYeah, you're throwing up.
Kat GarciaIt was real bad.
Trisha BuckThat's
Kat Garciabad. That'd be like my early twenties.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaThat didn't last long. Because you're
Trisha Bucklearning what those things do to your body. I mean, yeah,
Kat Garciaand like I can't stay up late. I have never been a stay up late kind of human. Yeah. It doesn't go well. I get moody. No. Yeah. Either I get, when I get start to get tired like that, I either get late. Happy giggly. I love everybody. Mm-hmm. Or I'm gonna start crying. Mm-hmm. No one look at me. I was just like, Hmm. What level of tired are we at? Yeah. Yeah. So was when you were, when you first started drinking?
Trisha BuckMm-hmm.
Kat GarciaWhat did you start with?
Trisha BuckWell, when I was 12, no, I'm When I was 12. No,
Kat Garciajust
Trisha Buckkidding. That's amazing. I love you. You know when, you know like high school drinks, whatever was around is what you drink, bud Light ob. Yeah. Bud Light. I've heard that. See, I drink more my bike than probably anything in my life.
Kat GarciaI'm always interested to hear about other people's drinking experiences. Uhhuh, because I did not drink until like. Four months before I turned 21. Oh. And then, wow. And then I found out recently, as soon as I got home after my boyfriend at the time had taken me to his parents' house. Mm-hmm. Fed me a lot of toast to sober for me the fuck up. That's nice to have somebody do that. Yep. And then took me back to my parents' house. Yeah. I ran upstairs and immediately woke up my mother and told her all about my night. I found out about this like three years ago. Um. Um, but I'm, I'm always interested to hear about other people's alcohol experience. 'cause I didn't,
Trisha BuckI I did do anything exciting. I did all of the things that you do that you're not supposed to do in high school. I did them, I don't know, 14, 15, 16 on
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckUm, you know, Raiders, I grew up in Colorado. Mm-hmm. So
Kat GarciaI always forget about Colorado in like your state trajectory.
Trisha BuckBut yeah, the Southwest is where I did my growing years. New Mexico, Colorado mainly. Yeah, those two states. Love that. Love that. A little bit of Oklahoma as a very small child, but yeah. Uh, so yeah, we would, you know, field bonfires in fields. Did it check? Yeah. Camping check. Yeah. Drinking shouldn't be drinking. Um, you know, Jack Daniels. Check that off too. Checks that off. Alright. That's a, that's a, that's a waste or a bourbon or something like that. And that's terrible, but it's fun to drink when you're a kid. Alright. Mad dog. 2020.
Kat GarciaI, yeah. Threw it up. I don't know anybody who hasn't thrown that up. Yeah. Who suggested that? Everyone has that.
Trisha BuckI'm in there. I dunno. Alright. The nineties were fun, man.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaUh, that lovely background noise is, uh, miss Lucy. Mm-hmm. Uh, sharpening her razor beans because she's the only one who doesn't get to do spa day with anti Janessa. But
Trisha BuckI jumped. So you never drank until you're basically 21? Yeah. I mean,
Kat Garciayeah. Like I would, I would try, I would try whatever my parents or their friends were drinking.
Trisha BuckYeah. Yeah.
Kat GarciaBut I never drank.
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaUm.
Trisha BuckBut it was never a big deal in your life. No. Like I was forbidden. I mean, yeah. Like my folks
Kat Garciawere. Were always like, this is the bar where the alcohol is. Yeah. Don't go in there or you'll die, you know, whatever. Like a friend of mine who I've known since high school, we talked about it not too long ago, and she's like, the idea of opening the bar at your parents' house. Yeah. Still makes me feel uncomfortable. Just like, okay. Very serious. Um, but no, I didn't, I didn't do anything in high school. I didn't even smoke weed. I didn't smoke weed until I was 23. Yeah, 24. And then I went to sleep like. I did a bong hit, which I didn't know how to do. That's a lot of coordination. I did. Oh my, I didn't know what I was doing. So they're like, okay, just hold this. And when we tell you,
Trisha Buckyeah,
Kat Garciabreathe
Trisha Buckclear that chamber, babe.
Kat GarciaI don't breathe well anyways, so you can imagine like the, the lungs that basically came out of my body and within five minutes I was like passed out asleep. I bet that's, that was the first time I ever. I smoked anything. Yeah. Maybe I'd had some cigarettes by then. Yeah. But no, I didn't, I didn't do anything. I just, I wouldn't even have known where to find
Trisha BuckYeah.
Kat GarciaWeed. Yeah. Which is hilarious. Um,
Trisha Buckyeah. I never just, people, my friends had it. Yeah. I, I'm not, I'm not. Well, and when, when I was, when
Kat GarciaI was a freshman in college. I was, I worked for the university, so like in exchange for work, the work I did for the university, like you, if you went and toured a college campus, you, my room was something that you go see. Mm-hmm. So I'd have it like staged and all this stuff. Mm-hmm. But in return for that, they covered like my room and board. Oh nice. But you couldn't get caught drinking or doing drugs or anything like that. And you know. Yeah. I'm like, I basically should have been raised Catholic, but whatever. Um,
Trisha Buckyeah. You're having a very Catholic childhood,
Kat GarciaI guess. I dunno. Right. But I didn't even, even at that point, like if my friends, if I knew they were gonna drink, because there were a couple parents who were just like, if you're gonna drink and we know you are, do it here. Yeah. And be safe. And no one's driving. Yeah. But I would always tell them if you're, when you're ready to start. Drinking, tell me so I can leave. And my friends were always really cool with that. Mm-hmm. Um, they'd always be like, okay, so I, we're gonna go start getting things out. Mm-hmm. I'm like, okay, well I'm gonna, I was getting ready to pack up anyways. They're like, okay. And we said goodbye. Well, so it wasn't weird. Yeah. But it was not something I participated in. Yeah. And then my sophomore year I was an ra. Yeah. So they're like. Don't do the things that you're supposed to catch other people doing. Yeah. And then that was the, that was the year that I had alcohol. Mm-hmm. Um, but like that was, let's say like April or May. And I turned 21 in September, like the first time I ever got drunk, though very clear was at my friend Ashlyn's house for a party that I'd already told him I wasn't coming to. Well, because there's gonna be alcohol and this crazy shit. And I'm like, I'm like, not my scene not gonna go. But I was like, I'm coming. And they're like, what the fuck? Okay. Uh, I, as we know, hadn't had alcohol, so I didn't know anything. Um, but somebody was like, Hey, do you want a Long Island iced tea? Oh. And I was like, sure. Okay. Because I'd heard about Long Islands. Mm-hmm. Because my grandma made Long Island Mix and she had that for my mom and my aunt. Like that's what they got to drink. But I'd never had any, so I'm like, sure. Long Island iced teas don't taste like alcohol. No. And if you don't tell somebody,
Trisha Buckbut they have the most now. Yes they do.
Kat GarciaYes, they, I downed that in like two minutes. I was just like, this is so good. I had a straw. This is alcohol. I, I just gone and then I got another one. Oh, okay. Yeah. So by, and that was like boom, boom. Yeah. Uh, we'd been there for like maybe an hour. Mm-hmm. And I was sitting on the second floor apartment railing on the balcony, like on the deck, just like hanging out and chatting with people and they're like, someone watching Kat. She is unsupervised. She can't die. Her parents will be so mad at all of us. Yeah. Because everyone, these are my high school friends. Like everyone knew everybody else. Yeah. Um, yeah, no, that was the first time I ever drank. Yeah,
Trisha Buckthat's a long time
Kat GarciaLong Island iced teas man.
Trisha BuckYeah. I, I have had very few since then. So you're pretty straight laced of Yes. I mean, maybe not in always, but as far as. Yeah. Alcohol and things like that. Yeah.
Kat GarciaUm, when I had friends who lived off campus, like I'd go to their house parties and stuff. Mm-hmm. Um, one night I had, this was in the quote unquote good old days. Um, and this was not a night where I was making food. If I was making food, I was usually sober. Because it involves like a stove. Not if I was making Mexican food though. That's what the tequila was for. Um, but I did four lime mics, lime mics. Mm-hmm. Um, I did a couple shot, or what was it, applesauce shops, which was apple pucker and gold schlager. Oh, Uhhuh. And then I did, I think a couple margaritas. Mm-hmm. And who knows? Oh, some jello shots. Mm-hmm. Top it off. I woke up the next day and for the first time I was still drunk. Wow. Yeah. And my mom was supposed to come get me that afternoon and she called me in the morning and I was like, mom, mom, mom. She would not stop like mom. I have to go throw up. I'll call you back. Yeah. So she came down 'cause I didn't have a car. Right. Then she came down, picked me up, took me to Mocha so I could get a bean burrito.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm. But you needed,
Kat Garciawhich was full cat style, so you know, tortillas and beans. Yeah. Nothing else. Yeah. Ate that in the car. Made the mistake of closing my eyes. Opening my eyes. Mm-hmm. Puked out the side of my mom's car. Coming off the off ramp on Mary Street Bridge. Oh. And then we, I got home, she put me to bed on the couch and she lied to my dad when he got home from work. What's wrong with her? Oh, she's just, she got some kind of a stomach bug at school and I'm like, thanks. Well, yeah, but like I was very straight laced. Yeah. Always. It was like, oh, I don't do that. Yeah.
Trisha BuckYou're a virtuous
Kat Garciagirl. I dunno if it was virtuous so much as just. Obliviousness. Mm-hmm. Because looking back, I'm like, oh, my friends were high. Like some of them were like high all the time because now I know things. Yeah. And I'm like two. Two does equal four. Oh. But you know, the fact that I wasn't drinking Yeah. Wasn't ever a problem for the people that I was around. So when you were like, I'm not gonna drink, I'm like, cool. All right. What can I do to make it more comfortable for you? Because I remember I'd be like, okay, so I think we're gonna do this. Are, is that okay with you? We can go somewhere else. Yeah, because I don't, I don't ever want people to feel uncomfortable. Oh yeah. I don't, I, well, especially early when you were, yeah. You were still like, not sure. Yeah. Not anymore. Yeah. I remember I was, I met up with a friend in Portland and. He doesn't really drink anymore. And I didn't know that at the time. Mm-hmm. And I had gotten, we were at some food carts and I'd gotten a beer and he was asking what I was drinking, and I'm like, oh, should I go order you something? And he's like, oh, no, I, I'm not, I don't really drink much anymore. I'm like, mm-hmm. Is it okay that I'm drinking? I'm like, I didn't know, so I didn't ask. And he's like. What do you mean? I'm like, well, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable. He's like, I don't think anyone's ever actually asked me that before. Yeah. Uh, so thank you Yeah. For being considerate, but no, that is a
Trisha Buckvery considerate thing. Drink your
Kat Garciabeer. I'm like, okay, you can enjoy yours. Yeah. I just, I don't ever want Yeah. To cause people to feel uncomfortable.
Trisha BuckMm-hmm.
Kat GarciaI'm like, oh, you're not drinking. Cool. How can I make this better for you? But like,
Trisha Buckdoing that kind of stuff is. You know, dealing with the discomfort of it.
Kat GarciaYeah,
Trisha Buckyeah. Was that, was that a hard part of it for you? Like the discomfort? Oh
Kat Garciayeah, that was, yeah,
Trisha Buckit wasn't like an extreme discomfort, but it was difficult to deal with because normally I'd be like, like I said, I'm not very disciplined, so I'd be like, okay, well I'll just have a drink and, you know, it'll be fun.
Kat GarciaYeah. Well, and so many, so like you were talking about earlier, like there's so many things that are social. Yeah. That have like a drinking component.
Trisha BuckYeah. Like even, you know, and things just start out, like book club, my book club, we drink wine. Yeah. Yeah. That is from day one. It's been about wine and books.
Kat GarciaYeah.
Trisha BuckSo,
Kat GarciaI mean, book club meets at the wine bar sometimes. Yeah. A lot of times. Yeah.
Trisha BuckIt's mostly at
Kat Garciathe morning. Yeah. Yeah. And you've, you've met up with us there a couple of times or we've bumped into you while you're there. Yeah. It was like, it's just Well, and I feel like people who know you Yeah. Know that you're not drinking. Yeah. And no one, I haven't been around you when anyone's made a big deal about it. No. I mean, aside from Cindy comments at once. Yeah. But when you are gonna tell your mother apparently, you just have to. Um, but yeah, no, I don't think. Yeah,
Trisha Buckyeah. Yeah. Not, um, I'm not uncomfortable and I only have a few more months left. Yeah. And I will have a delicious purple cowboy. Happy fucking New Year's.
Kat GarciaWell, that was, you said something the other day, you said we were working on, we were working on garage sale stuff. Maybe that's what we were doing. And you're like, God, I could really go for a glass of wine right now. Yes. Like, I mean, you could, and you're like, no, there's a level of
Trisha Buckstress.
Kat GarciaThere's a level of stress. But you were like, no, my desire to make it to the end of the year and do this. Yeah. For myself is so much stronger than my need for a glass of wine. I'm like, cool. I love that for you. I'll drink some extra in your honor. Yeah, please do. I do. I do. I cheers the cats and you know, whatever. Yeah. But even, even with, so like you stop drinking and other friends like cut back on their drinking. Yeah, I guess so. And. I feel like I cut back on my drinking because I'm, I think so I've noticed I'm very social. I'm a, I'm a social drinker also. Yeah. Like will I, I also, I cook with wine. Yeah. And I'm like, well, not always, but I'm like, yeah, I'll have a little wine while I'm cooking. Yeah. But lately I haven't been able to, like, if I open a bottle, I'll have a glass. Yeah. And then I put it on the counter. Yeah. And I don't think about it. And then a week goes by and I'm like. Oh, this is vinegar. She's gone back. I'm like, could, is this still good for Stew? The answer is yes. Yeah, the answer is yes, but you know, so I, I too have bing, but I'm also like, I will still drink just less. And I'm more mindful of about like,
Trisha BuckI can remember two occasions. I mean, this is not, it's not like, you know, alcohol has not touched these lips in a year because I. I think there were two different, oh, Ella, Abby. Abby got a mar uh, a margarita at, you know, our, our little spot over there. Yeah. And I tasted it just 'cause it, I wanted, I never tasted. Yeah. So I gave it a sip, but I pina colada too. Oh,
Kat Garciapina colada. Yeah.
Trisha BuckYeah. I think that's just twice I've, 'cause I wanted to taste it, not because Yeah. You know? Yeah. So it was, it's not like even. It is not really about the alcohol, right. It's about can I do, can I be disciplined? Yeah, yeah. And you have, yeah. Like you're doing
Kat Garciathe thing. I'm
Trisha Buckproven to myself that I can decide to do something and actually finish it. Yeah. And you have, yeah. Look at you now. Look at me.
Kat GarciaLook at you. It's good.
Trisha BuckYeah, it's been good. And um, and I don't even remember it most time, unless in. Until it comes up and someone is like, oh, you're not drinking right now. I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I'm not.
Kat GarciaYeah,
Trisha BuckI don't even think about it.
Kat GarciaYeah. Yeah. I remember I made something, I don't know, it was like springtime and I put wine in it and I was like, I put wine in this. Can you have it? Yeah. I don't know if that's part of your, your, your guidelines and you're like,
Trisha Buckthat alcohol got cooked off. No, it's
Kat Garciacooked off and I really want whatever you made. I'm like, okay, great. It was like soup or something. Yeah, because of course it was. Of course you make delicious soup. The stew I made last time was real good. Oh
Trisha Buckmy gosh. They're all good. I gotta make, it's chicken, it's soup season. Make the chicken and the, I don't know what you have in it. It's delicious. Oh yeah. The, you made some coconut milk. Oh yeah. When I make
Kat Garcialike the, the chicken coconut curry soup stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Drop some, some dumplings in there. Mm-hmm. So good. You make good soup. Not even hungry right now. And now I wanna make soup. I'm a little hungry. I gotta say I'm a little hungry. Oh, well then maybe we'll go make you some soup a little. So you make a little soup. I might make us a little soup. Make a little soup. Alright, well let's just wrap this up and go eat some food. Alright. Alright, well, okay, thanks. Okay, bye. Thanks for listening in. We'll talk to y'all soon. Bye. Bye.
