Business Ethos/Business ethics & the link between personal & organizational ethics.🇧🇼

• Tshidi M Wyllie • Season 2 • Episode 21

It’s essential to explore the concept of ethics, assess where we stand, increase our level of ethical awareness, assess how organizational ethics aligns with our personal ethics and vice-versa in order to proactively address job dissatisfaction & stress. Where there is disconnection or lack of alignment between our personal values/ethics and the Organizational ethics & values there is a tendency to face constant ethical dilemmas and internal & external conflict hence this discussion today.

Could Ethics have originated from the biblical 10 commandments?: Thou Shall Not Kill, Thou Shall Not Steal, thou Shall Not Commit Adultery, Thou Shall Not Lie, And Thou Shall Not Covet. What do you think?
Ethics can be defined as: The science of moral norms and laws; the ability to differentiate between what is good and what is bad, the ability to distinguish between right and wrong; to do the good or right thing. Ethics are linked to values; we have values & Organizations also have values. We have personal ethics & principles which are tied to our values and priorities (what’s important to us).

Can something seem to be right but yet unethical? In  business what types of behaviours can be seen as wrong & unethical , Are workplace relationships ethical/right?; e.g can a director/supervisor date an employee or junior? Why not?
Is it ethical and right to knowingly buy stolen goods/ back door stuff?
 What about bribes/corruption; your thoughts?

Organizational ethics are the basic knowledge and ability to differentiate between right and wrong in the world of work and business. Organizational ethics act as a moral compass to leaders, managers and employees to act ethically in a complex situations and choose what is the right .
