Don't Fear The Code Brown and Don't Forget To Stretch!
Loony Lindsey (00:23)
What's up turds and turdettes? Welcome to Sample 11 of the re-crap. I am your host, Looney Lindsey. I changed that because Bossman doesn't like my other nickname. That's my very famous co-host, Tara Teradactyl. Tara, what is crappin'in'?
Ptara (00:42)
⁓ what's going on, Looney Lindsay? I think it flows. I like it. I like it. Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (00:45)
Does it flow? Okay,
so that was my girl's on the run nickname this past season. So I guess we'll have to see. We'll have to see what our two followers, what they think.
Ptara (00:52)
Okay, I like it. mean, and yeah, I know. I
mean, you are kind of loony. So yeah, absolutely. I love it. Love it.
Loony Lindsey (01:01)
I am pretty loony, but it's fitting,
Yeah, so our host joined us early. I mean, our host, excuse me, our guest today joined us early. I was actually getting out of the shower still. I just came back from a run. So yes. So we are so thrilled. We're going to just jump right into it to welcome Jeremy McCoudry to the recrap.
The Chad Ultra (01:17)
Yeah, they're perfect.
Loony Lindsey (01:26)
He was on the runs, on, on the runs, December 2nd, so was pretty recent. He was episode 199. And you may know him, because most people do, as Chad Ultra. Welcome to the plot, Chad. Chad.
The Chad Ultra (01:40)
is well welcome to my newest
latest podcast welcome thank you for listening
Ptara (01:46)
So Chad, ⁓ as Lindsay said, you were just recently on the runs on their podcast back in December and you guys did that live because you came out to visit us. So let's start with the ghost train because myself and Lindsay, we both got to meet you in person, which was awesome. I absolutely love meeting pod fam in person. just...
The Chad Ultra (01:57)
Yeah. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (02:04)
So much fun.
Ptara (02:08)
brings like a whole new, just, you know, like even at work when you meet, like I work with customers and sales and when I meet them in person, it just is that much more special. So I feel like we've been besties for years. ⁓ So. ⁓ yes, by the way, by the way, for the people who are watching on YouTube, this is some. I am a groupie, I am a groupie. And for those of you listening.
The Chad Ultra (02:18)
yeah. I mean, they say don't meet your heroes and I try to change that for people.
Hahaha
Loony Lindsey (02:32)
Did he sign it?
Did he sign it for you? ⁓
Ptara (02:36)
I'm wearing, no, he did not sign it, he did not.
The Chad Ultra (02:38)
I should have signed it.
Ptara (02:39)
But I'm wearing a Chad Ultra t-shirt that I got from Yours Truly at Ghost Train. So it's great, I love it.
The Chad Ultra (02:46)
It's a limited
edition New Hampshire. It says finish hard, wicked hard. And I also wore a shirt for you guys. I don't know if you can see this, but it says rage against the machine and is that photo from the first woman running Boston.
Ptara (02:51)
Wicked hard. Love that.
Yes, she was on.
Loony Lindsey (02:59)
love it.
Ptara (03:04)
Yeah, she was episode 100, right? On the the runs. Yeah, great. That's a great shirt. I love it. So all right. Yeah, right.
Loony Lindsey (03:04)
I feel like I'm... Yep.
The Chad Ultra (03:06)
What's
up? I think so.
Loony Lindsey (03:11)
I actually want that shirt.
sure but edit but my own
Ptara (03:16)
Yeah, can you actually wear it for a couple days, don't wash it,
The Chad Ultra (03:16)
Yeah ⁓
That'll cost you extra, but yes.
Ptara (03:20)
and then throw it in the mail? That's not creepy,
Loony Lindsey (03:24)
but I'll sleep
with it.
The Chad Ultra (03:27)
You can find the link on my only feed.
Ptara (03:31)
Awesome. You and Erica collabing on that website. Only feet. Only feet to pay for the seat to Australia. Yeah. So all right, let's tell us about how you picked Ghost Train because I know you said you wanted to come out to New Hampshire. And again, just circling back, that's how we all met in person. So tell us about that. And then you can even talk about
The Chad Ultra (03:33)
⁓ There's some red tape there
Loony Lindsey (03:40)
That's what it is.
Ptara (03:53)
the video that you made and how you and Ultra sign up. I don't know what you have going on there, but you do stuff for them. So tell us a little bit about that.
The Chad Ultra (04:01)
So, you know, as you know, I met Erica and so of course I was listening to the podcast and I'd hear about all these runs like hamster and anchor down in your area. And I asked Erica like, if I come out, which race should I do? And she gave me a list and ghost train was on it and looked at the different races and ghost train, excuse me. Ghost train definitely seemed like a race for me, like costumes, party, fun, out and backs. And so yeah, I.
signed up. I mean, it's only I think it was only $100. So I did for the first ⁓ first couple nights. I was kind to her and booked a motel for the last couple nights after the race so I can walk around in my own sweat and misery. I didn't want to do that to her and Brandon.
Ptara (04:36)
Yeah, this wasn't expensive. And did you stay in Erica's spare bedroom?
Loony Lindsey (04:37)
Yeah, that's a good one.
Ptara (04:51)
yeah. Yep. Right. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (04:56)
Bye.
Ptara (04:58)
So what's that? Her boyfriend Brandon's like, what's that weird noise? It's just Chad. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (05:02)
Don't worry about it, it's
Chad. You're only the second person to stay in that from the pod, right? ⁓ wait, third. Patrick, Wyatt, yeah, Patrick and Wyatt. you're the, yeah. You're in the lead group there.
The Chad Ultra (05:08)
yeah, Wyatt, that's-
Ptara (05:09)
No, Patrick Wyatt, didn't Wyatt? So maybe three? No. Yeah, you are.
The Chad Ultra (05:19)
Yeah, but what
was really cool is so I was an ambassador for ultra sign up they put a hiatus on the ambassador program but They sent a message to us ex ambassadors like hey anybody interested in making a video about an upcoming race, know, if you have something interesting and you know, it's pretty cool like we send you a GoPro you film it send it back and we'll edit it and as I get I'm doing ghost train and
⁓ The gal Shelby who was in charge of marketing then she's not anymore. She's I think she's in Vermont or New Hampshire somewhere She's like yes goat strain would be perfect for this and it actually didn't end up being really cool because I got a hold of Rob the race director and Carolina ⁓ Beforehand just try to you know set things up and I got to know them better and so that was really cool
Ptara (06:08)
Nailed it.
Yeah, Rob's a pretty cool guy. And I'm sure you making that video, you know, for being like a small town and it's not like a huge race. But that probably was like awesome for them to bring a little publicity and you did a great job. The video was awesome. I watched it. It's like, wow, he's very talented.
The Chad Ultra (06:27)
Thank you.
Loony Lindsey (06:27)
Yeah, yeah.
The Chad Ultra (06:30)
Very
good at editing.
Loony Lindsey (06:33)
It's well it's not a huge race but it sells out immediately. The 30 hour like you have to be on it. I have it in my phone so that it reminds me the day before because I forgot last year and wasn't able to get in. So you have to be on it within the first like 20 minutes or get sold out. So.
The Chad Ultra (06:37)
Yeah, that's.
Ptara (06:37)
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (06:50)
Yeah,
like it honestly, I talked about it on the podcast and in the video, but it blew me away. I'm surprised that that race isn't more popular out here even. So I've been telling all my friends like go do that race because everything was done amazingly well. And I took a lot of notes from Rob that I hope I mean, breaking news, I signed up to be a race director with another gal out here. And so I hope to use a lot of that things that I picked up.
⁓ to put on my own races.
Ptara (07:23)
That's awesome.
Loony Lindsey (07:23)
Yes, so that was
one of the things we want to talk to you about. Am I jumping ahead too far or do we want to get into this?
The Chad Ultra (07:26)
okay. ⁓
Ptara (07:26)
Yes!
No, yeah, that's the, are we talking about the CUU? Or is this a different? Or.
The Chad Ultra (07:35)
I mean, one
in the kind of see, see you use different, but it's in the same family.
Ptara (07:40)
Okay.
Okay. So are you in this woman? Are you guys like branching out and doing your own company? Or are you like, how's that? Tell us a little bit about that.
Loony Lindsey (07:42)
Okay.
The Chad Ultra (07:47)
Yeah, so
her name's April or she calls herself above average April. She's been putting on a local race out here called Pigtails and it's in the middle of December in rainy Maple Valley next to Seattle and it's known for having horrible weather. But one of my favorite things about this race, I've done it a couple times, is the 50K is $25, the marathon is $25.
The half marathon is $30.
Ptara (08:19)
Wow.
Loony Lindsey (08:19)
We
Ptara (08:21)
That's awesome. I love that.
The Chad Ultra (08:23)
And she she calls it a fat ass, know, very it's not she puts a lot more time and effort into it but This year we had record flood in the area So the race got cancelled and I've been talking with I forget why we were talking but you know She broach like hey, do you want to team up with me? Cuz I want to put on more races than just pigtails and She's really good on the detail side and all of that
but not as good on the people side. And I was like, yeah, we can team up. And it's either you're going to hate me by the end, or we're going to work to each other's strengths, and it's going to be awesome. One or the two, we'll see. But we actually have, so we're doing our main race, Pigtails. ⁓ And then also in September, a dream that I've been working on for a couple years. ⁓
Ptara (09:05)
Awesome.
The Chad Ultra (09:19)
I mentioned on the on the on the runs too is chat ultra presents ultra prom and One of my superpowers is I have amazing friends and I know the director of the YMCA in southern, Oregon And they just redid their summer camp and they're looking for unique events to put on there so like why don't you come do your weird race and We'll take care of all the hard stuff and so it
Ptara (09:26)
Yes.
Loony Lindsey (09:26)
Good
night.
The Chad Ultra (09:48)
It'll work out perfect. We're doing that as a fundraiser for the Y. So it'll be a lot of fun.
Ptara (09:53)
Awesome.
Loony Lindsey (09:54)
That's so cool.
Ptara (09:55)
What's the course like for that? Are you doing it at the Y?
The Chad Ultra (09:58)
So the summer camp's on a lake called Lake of the Woods. And we're going to circumnavigate the lake. It's roughly nine miles. Once the snow melts, we'll map out the exact course. But about nine miles, pretty flat, mountain views, lake views. And then we have to figure out a smaller loop for when there's two hours left. You can start doing that instead of the big nine mile.
Ptara (10:25)
Okay, kind of like what at Ghost Train, they had that turnaround mark. So you could do something. So now is this is ultra prom, is this a like 24 hour, 12, how many?
The Chad Ultra (10:27)
Yeah. Yeah.
yeah,
24 hours as much or as little as you want to do. ⁓ Entries registration open soon, but registration entry will come with a bunk so you can stop and take a nap. ⁓ Yeah, I, I hoped I tried to pitch it as like a trail camp, you know, multi night and they're like, no, let's just do Saturday and Sunday for her for now, but we'll see.
Loony Lindsey (10:47)
I like that.
Ptara (10:54)
⁓
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (11:00)
So are you encouraging people to dress up like they're going to prom? That's going to be hard. I mean, I would do it, but that's hard to run for a long time.
The Chad Ultra (11:04)
You know, of course.
I have one friend,
she bought a prom dress. think her plan is to do it like the first and last loop. ⁓ I tried to get Charlotte to come out because you know, she had rocked that. I have like little dreams I want to do there. Like I hope to get people to mail in their horrible prom stories, like short stories.
Loony Lindsey (11:16)
huh.
Ptara (11:16)
there you go.
yeah.
Loony Lindsey (11:21)
But she best rest.
The Chad Ultra (11:35)
I don't know if you remember in Ghost Train when they used the paper plates as trail marking up and down that hill. I wanted to do kind of like that with the bad prom stories.
Loony Lindsey (11:39)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Ptara (11:43)
I love that. Or just prom pictures in general. I mean, we're all older. I mean, that was for me 25, God, how old am I? Years ago and it's like fashions have definitely changed. it would be... Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (11:44)
Oh, I love that. That would be great too.
The Chad Ultra (11:47)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (11:56)
That was 27 years, 28 years ago for me.
The Chad Ultra (11:56)
Yeah, totally.
Well,
that's what I forget who I was talking to and I was like, you know, my target audience is people like, let's face it, like in our forties, maybe fifties, late thirties. Like that's who's going to come to this. But.
Ptara (12:12)
Yeah. yeah. That's awesome.
Loony Lindsey (12:14)
I love it.
are you planning on, is this like a one-time thing or do you hope to have it every year?
The Chad Ultra (12:19)
Well,
I hope to have it every year. ⁓ that is the plan going forward. So right now, like I said, we're doing as a fundraiser for the YMCA. And after this, we're going to talk about, you know, my running company, which is called Not Another Running Company, ⁓ or NARC, ⁓ taking it over, but we'll see the details. And then one of the other things that
Loony Lindsey (12:23)
Perfect.
Ptara (12:41)
NARC.
The Chad Ultra (12:49)
we're doing that again I've been thinking about for years but with the Chad Ultra character I didn't feel I could pull it off is ⁓ down in Portland Oregon there's been a few assaults on women runners so I know a guy who has a MMA gym and boxing gym and we're going to do actually next month a self-defense seminar for runners and
Ptara (13:15)
Awesome.
Loony Lindsey (13:16)
That's
great.
The Chad Ultra (13:18)
Yeah, hopefully.
Ptara (13:19)
So
fun fact, you know who you should talk to is Justin Deflamiri, because that's how Erica and I met him. He taught a class, self-defense for female runners. And that's how our friendship blossomed. And he is honestly a wealth of knowledge in that department.
The Chad Ultra (13:22)
Yep.
Yes, I actually, heard, I think Erica was talking about it on the pod. And so I've been messaging him a little bit and I was like, Hey, just so you know, I'm still in your idea. And he was super nice. was like, any questions, feel free to ask, you know.
Ptara (13:45)
Ha
Yeah, he made it a lot of fun. So I mean, I learned a ton that, you know, stuff that you think you would know. But then it's like, I've never been in the situation. So I don't really know. But then it's like, yeah, like, yeah. And it was it was great. So I think that's it. That's an awesome idea. And you probably get a really good turnout for that.
The Chad Ultra (13:58)
And you got to think about it ahead of time and.
Yeah, my buddy Jordan, he's really cool. I've known him for almost 30 years and he started coaching boxing on the side and now it's his full-time gig. in the past, he's done self-defense classes for at-risk groups like LGBTQ, sex workers and stuff. So he's done it a few times and you know, we've got, it was brought to my attention, know, people were asking like, there going to be any women instructors and
Ptara (14:26)
Awesome.
The Chad Ultra (14:34)
He does have an assistant that is a woman that will be there too. But yeah, as you can imagine, I've tried to pitch this to other running companies and didn't really go anywhere. And I was like, I can't really do this as Chad Ultra. I don't feel like I can.
Loony Lindsey (14:37)
Wow, that's great.
Ptara (14:38)
that's awesome.
Loony Lindsey (14:51)
No way.
Ptara (14:53)
You show up with your t-shirt
with the abs on, and they're like, let's go.
The Chad Ultra (14:54)
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (14:57)
Chattel for fucks.
The Chad Ultra (14:59)
Yeah. I'm the kind of guy you want to mace. Let's go.
Ptara (15:03)
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (15:07)
You could be like, if you do like a simulation of a situation, you could be like the perp or whatever.
Ptara (15:14)
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (15:15)
Was thinking like for an extra 50 bucks you can pepper spring Yeah But but then you also brought up the CU you what was the Chad ultra ultra and This will be the fourth year ⁓ I needed an excuse to bring all my friends together because I hated just seeing them at races briefly So I developed what's called the Chad ultra ultra
Ptara (15:19)
It's for charity! That's awesome.
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (15:44)
It's a 10 mile run with 2000 feet of vert. It's invite only. It's free. ⁓ If you win the race, you get a loaf of bread.
Ptara (15:54)
Ooh, maybe I will come then.
The Chad Ultra (15:57)
⁓
You have to show up ⁓ with your own alter ego and there's a competition for that that the price varies every year, but it's better than a loaf of bread and you know, I
Loony Lindsey (16:11)
Well,
Terror would clearly be a pterodactyl and she'd have a call.
Ptara (16:14)
I would get wings.
The Chad Ultra (16:16)
What?
Ptara (16:16)
Listen, it's going to happen one of these years. for everybody listening, I'm not trying to brag or anything, but Lindsay and I got the email. We got the invite only, kind of a big deal. And I was looking at my calendar to see if I could fit it in, I am aggressively, I am over committed this year. So I'm going to look at maybe next year or in two years from now, but I'm going to make that happen.
Loony Lindsey (16:25)
We did, but kind of a big deal.
The Chad Ultra (16:28)
Yeah.
Yeah
Yeah, it's a blast like there's
Ptara (16:44)
And it's on your, did
you say it's on your parents' property?
Loony Lindsey (16:45)
It's on your parents.
The Chad Ultra (16:46)
Yeah, so they own 40 acres along the ⁓ River in southwest Washington. And so there's limited camping. All the cool kids can come camp. built an, my brothers and dad and I built an outhouse and like it, it's just beautiful. You can go swimming, paddle boarding and.
Ptara (16:53)
⁓
that's awesome. So is this, this is just a 10-miler? Like it's not an ultra? Okay. Okay. Just 10 miles with 2000 feet of vert- No big deal.
The Chad Ultra (17:09)
Young.
Loony Lindsey (17:09)
That sounds amazing.
The Chad Ultra (17:12)
Yeah, just yeah, that's part of the joke. It's just 10 miles. It is. Yeah,
Loony Lindsey (17:17)
⁓ But no big deal.
The Chad Ultra (17:21)
it is brutal because it's ⁓ you cross the highway and it's a logging room that goes up. called Radar Mountain. It's the highest point in the area and they have like the weather station there. So you run up that and then you there's a road to come back down at the highway further down and you run about a mile back and.
It's great because it's a small hick town and once a year they see people dressed up like My friend Sean the past three years of he has like a full American outfit and he carries a flag with him and My
Loony Lindsey (17:46)
Hahaha!
Ptara (17:54)
awesome.
Loony Lindsey (17:56)
people
typically do it.
The Chad Ultra (17:58)
between usually 10 and 25, but you know, each year grows a little bit and you know, I do have a contingent that hikes it rather than runs it. like there's no, no.
Loony Lindsey (18:04)
Okay.
Ptara (18:16)
Oh, I'd probably
be power hiking a lot with that elevation. I was like, wait a minute, do we have to run? Because maybe I'll just hang out at camp and eat bread.
The Chad Ultra (18:18)
Well, I power hike up, it is four and a half miles up.
Loony Lindsey (18:18)
Thanks.
hands and knees off the side of the mountain.
Ptara (18:30)
Yeah, I'm like, ooh,
that sounds brutal.
The Chad Ultra (18:32)
And it is crazy because I wanted something I friends that you know run 200 milers and ones that run half marathons And once I don't run so I wanted something that could fit into people's training schedule It wouldn't be too hard or too easy or they can add extra to it, you know just more about coming together hanging out and The first year my parents were kind of worried. They're like
Ptara (18:49)
Yeah.
That's awesome.
The Chad Ultra (18:56)
You guys are gonna be back there camping. I don't want you guys to get too wild like we're both the ultra runners we're probably gonna turn in at like nine o'clock and
Ptara (19:04)
Yeah, right.
I love that we're in our 40s and our parents are still like, don't get too wild.
Loony Lindsey (19:07)
We are shocking.
The Chad Ultra (19:11)
So my dad and I say that I was taken in by a family after high school and so I think in fact ⁓ nine years ago at Christmas, you know, they're like hey just so you know We tried we looked into legally adopting you but apparently when you're an adult it's really complicated So you're part of the family where you're adopted but
Ptara (19:34)
⁓ that's awesome.
Loony Lindsey (19:35)
Yeah, but,
that's so sweet.
Ptara (19:37)
I know I just got goosebumps. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (19:38)
But but
but my dad is he's an ex-miner So I think he was thinking of back in his day when he's you know in the mountains of Colorado or Ethiopia mining and what they would get into
Ptara (19:48)
yeah.
yeah, those guys were drinking moonshine. Straight.
Loony Lindsey (19:55)
than getting real
wild.
Ptara (19:59)
Yeah, my moon...
Loony Lindsey (20:00)
So 40 acres though, 40 acres, you must be able to get far away, far enough away from their house that they can't hear you if you do get wild.
The Chad Ultra (20:02)
Yeah.
yeah,
it's about a quarter mile away from the house. And it's really cool because there's the main river, which is the Nassau River, and then there's a creek that we had to build a bridge over. And there's beaver dams and stuff. There's deer. There's bear, but I haven't seen any bear there ever. But there are bear.
Ptara (20:31)
⁓
Loony Lindsey (20:32)
What about
Ptara (20:32)
that.
Loony Lindsey (20:32)
moose? I wanna see him. I wanna ride moose. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (20:34)
No, no, I've never seen- There's no mus-
There are mountain lions, but I've never seen one. No. God.
Ptara (20:41)
was going say, are there moose out in Oregon? Yeah, I was
Loony Lindsey (20:42)
Yeah, I
Ptara (20:43)
going
Loony Lindsey (20:43)
didn't. I wasn't sure. I didn't know.
Ptara (20:43)
to say no. No, those are just New Hampshire or the East Coast, I should say. Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (20:48)
Ha
Loony Lindsey (20:49)
Maine, New Hampshire,
The Chad Ultra (20:51)
I'm pretty
Loony Lindsey (20:51)
Vermont.
The Chad Ultra (20:51)
sure we do get them in Northeast Washington, but.
Ptara (20:55)
okay. I was going to say like Canada up that way, maybe somewhere, but Canada's kind of our hat. So maybe it could be up in Washington. Now I'm going to have to Google that. All right. Homework. Where do moose live? But you did say beaver and Oregon beavers. ⁓ wait. No, those are the ducks. Never mind. OK. All right. I was like, wait a minute. think there's OK. All right. You guys have lots of beavers and ducks out there.
The Chad Ultra (21:07)
Yeah Not notice Oregon State Beavers or University of Oregon ducks. Yeah, you're right
Loony Lindsey (21:08)
I've got
The Chad Ultra (21:22)
Yeah. And, and, and you come out, um, it's across the river from Astoria, Oregon. It's like a 20 minute drive, which you can go visit the Goonies house and a bunch of the kindergarten, school. Yeah.
Ptara (21:23)
That's what I picture from someone that's never been there. I'm like, this place is just loaded with ducks.
Loony Lindsey (21:28)
This
is...
Ptara (21:36)
Ooh, love that movie.
Loony Lindsey (21:39)
love that.
Ptara (21:41)
The Goonies is a great movie.
Loony Lindsey (21:43)
It is a great movie. That's cool.
Ptara (21:45)
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (21:45)
I have a nine-year-old daughter and we watched it for the first time together a couple months ago and so She So her her thing she liked it but My kid is way too good. She can't stand watching movies when kids do things that their parents tell them not to do
Ptara (21:50)
Okay.
Loony Lindsey (21:50)
British, what did she think of it?
Ptara (22:05)
you're doing a good job.
The Chad Ultra (22:07)
So the whole idea
of these kids going off on an adventure and the mom's like, no, stay home. And she's like, dad, I can't watch. She's like, no, it's fine. It's fine.
Loony Lindsey (22:16)
my gosh,
that's so funny.
Ptara (22:18)
she's so innocent.
You know what's funny is my best friend from high school, ⁓ she's got three girls and the two older ones have been talking about watching scary movies. And she said that they watched The Goonies and I was like, I don't think The Goonies is scary. But then she was telling me that they have all the skeletons and I was like, yeah. And her middle daughter, yeah, she was like, couldn't sleep for nights. I was like, ⁓ no.
The Chad Ultra (22:37)
yeah.
Loony Lindsey (22:38)
Oh yeah, yep, we're in there.
The Chad Ultra (22:43)
No, no, no.
Ptara (22:45)
She's like, yeah, she's like, kind of missed the boat on that one, but so.
Loony Lindsey (22:45)
You
The Chad Ultra (22:49)
Yeah, I've been
waiting to watch Lord of the Rings with her too, but I think the ring race would scare her, waiting a little bit.
Ptara (22:52)
Okay.
Yeah,
right. I was like, growing up in the 80s, my mother, well, not my mother, I was with the babysitter and she let us watch Cujo and I didn't sleep for months. I was probably seven or eight Cujo like really. I haven't watched it since and I will not. I don't even want to like watch it now as a full grown adult.
Loony Lindsey (22:56)
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (23:06)
no. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (23:07)
Wait a second,
how old are you?
The Chad Ultra (23:12)
Good.
Loony Lindsey (23:13)
That is not a good movie for a seven year old.
The Chad Ultra (23:20)
know, when I was six, I think it was a babysitter, too. I watched The Predator and my God, that scared me.
Ptara (23:25)
⁓ yeah, no. Six. Yeah, yeah.
Loony Lindsey (23:28)
It's always a babysitter, right? They're like, I don't give
a sh- I don't care.
Ptara (23:31)
So I remember this like, you know, you have like very like some memories are better than others. Like, I remember this because the babysitter, she had to call my mom and my mom was at work. She was working at a rest and I was freaking I was crying and she's like, I can't get her to go to bed. And my mom's like, what do you do to her? She's like, we were watching a movie. And she's like, what movie? Cujo. My mom's like, Jesus Christ. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (23:37)
It's a cool memory.
The Chad Ultra (23:41)
⁓ no.
That's
Ptara (23:54)
That's a great movie to put you to bed.
The Chad Ultra (23:56)
so related I When I was I can't remember what age but I was young I watched It was like a comedy movie and one of the pranks is they put a snake in the toilet And of course a guy goes to go take a crap and the snake bites. I would not sit on the toilet like for years
Ptara (24:06)
⁓
Loony Lindsey (24:07)
⁓
Ptara (24:12)
Yeah.
You just hover
Loony Lindsey (24:15)
was gonna say,
that to this day? You're like, no.
Ptara (24:16)
over it?
you
The Chad Ultra (24:19)
I still think about it to this day. The guy that pooped all over the porta potty is me for that reason.
Ptara (24:22)
He's got like massive quads. like, he's like, I've never sat on a toilet seat in my life.
Loony Lindsey (24:29)
Please hover.
Ptara (24:32)
So they actually in New Hampshire, they in one of the porta potties on a rest area, there was a snake in there and this was on the news and I was like, ⁓ yep, I'm done. am. I'm shitting in the woods. I will not shit in a porta potty. Not happening.
The Chad Ultra (24:39)
no!
Loony Lindsey (24:46)
There
The Chad Ultra (24:46)
⁓
in Seattle?
Loony Lindsey (24:48)
are snakes in the woods too though.
Ptara (24:49)
I know,
but you can at least like scope the area. Like if a snake comes in while I'm taking a dump, that's that's just coincidence.
Loony Lindsey (24:52)
You
The Chad Ultra (24:56)
And you can hear it. ⁓
Loony Lindsey (24:56)
you
The Chad Ultra (24:58)
In Seattle, whenever it floods really bad, they put out a warning that rats may come up your toilet pipe. I've never... Because apparently, like, can also lift up the lid, like... ⁓
Loony Lindsey (25:04)
⁓ my god. Can you a rat biting your asshole?
Ptara (25:05)
⁓ God.
or other parts.
my god, can you imagine being in the bathroom and you just hear the toilet lid bouncing and then you open it up and it's a rat? I'm like, yeah, nope. I am burning this house down. We're moving. We are moving. my god. Yeah. Nope. No, thank you.
Loony Lindsey (25:21)
There's whole bunch of them.
The Chad Ultra (25:26)
⁓ Burn that place to the ground. No.
Yeah, so I don't know anybody who that's
Loony Lindsey (25:32)
So Jeremy, ⁓
The Chad Ultra (25:34)
happened to, but I've heard.
Ptara (25:35)
Okay.
Yeah. I mean, once.
Loony Lindsey (25:37)
Is it urban legend or is it definitely
like?
The Chad Ultra (25:40)
So they put it on the news, so...
Loony Lindsey (25:42)
Okay, so that's gotta be, that's gotta be true now. ⁓
Ptara (25:43)
so it's gotta be real.
The Chad Ultra (25:44)
yeah.
Ptara (25:47)
Was it CNN or like
The Chad Ultra (25:49)
It's not DHS, so we're good.
Ptara (25:50)
what's?
Loony Lindsey (25:55)
So Jeremy, what else do you have coming up this year or like in the next couple of years? What are your dream races? What are your goals? What do have going on other than your obviously your two, your CUU and the other one?
Ptara (26:00)
Yeah, what have you?
The Chad Ultra (26:06)
⁓
So we got a couple races in the mix that we want to put on. Later this month, I'm flying out to Georgia. I was going to run ⁓ Dark Anchor. It's a 34-hour looped race. But I don't think I said this on the Runs podcast. So I did Ghost Train 30-hour. And I took it easy because the following weekend, did the Salt Creek 24-hour.
Loony Lindsey (26:20)
Mm-hmm.
The Chad Ultra (26:39)
I did that with my sister. She was doing a training run for the race in Georgia. So I did the 30 hour one weekend, 24 hour the next. And then two weeks later, I did this race called the Willipa Trail Festival or WTF. And that was only 25K, but big surprise. I injured my foot after doing all those events. recovering from.
Ptara (26:52)
Ha
⁓ yeah. This was when you
were the first person undocumented to run an ultra in the East Coast and then immediately fly back and run one in the West Coast.
The Chad Ultra (27:05)
I I did make that up. Yes, I What
did I call it? I called like the the Ghost Creek or something like that or the salty go ⁓ But so, you know, I paid for the race and everything and my sister's doing her first ultra ⁓ so I'm flying out to
Ptara (27:14)
Yeah, the Ghost Creek. Yeah, you have the FKT for the Ghost Creek.
Loony Lindsey (27:15)
The Ghost Creek, that's, I love it.
The Chad Ultra (27:35)
I will do a few laps, but you know mainly go down to crew and support people at this point
Ptara (27:42)
What's going on with your foot? Did you get it checked out or you just?
The Chad Ultra (27:44)
Yeah,
a bunch of medical terms, like tendonitis and other things I can't pronounce, but... ⁓
Ptara (27:52)
Hmm. Yeah, and that probably
means that you should rest, which is something we don't know how to do.
The Chad Ultra (27:56)
Yeah,
you have an old man orthotics. I'm getting those and
Ptara (28:00)
Oh,
yeah, the olds. I wake up every morning with the case of the olds. Something new hurts. I'm like, what happened here? I literally went to bed. Like, what did I do? Yeah, I wake up and I'm paralyzed and I'm like, what the fuck? I'm like, grab the WD-40. Yeah, gotta get ready for the day. WD-40, let's go.
Loony Lindsey (28:01)
⁓ that's fine.
The Chad Ultra (28:03)
But
no-
Yeah.
But no surgery, so let's go.
Loony Lindsey (28:09)
I turned my neck wrong.
I slept like this.
The Chad Ultra (28:17)
I put my sock on wrong and now I can't walk.
Loony Lindsey (28:20)
I sneezed and threw my back out.
The Chad Ultra (28:22)
you
It is great because I have a coworker who used to pull the, you he played like minor like baseball and stuff, but he used to be like, I lift heavy parts for living. He's like, Hey, can you go do this? You're younger than me. I'm like, dude, you're only four years older than I am. I just haven't had the 30 surgeries that you've had. But, I hope to, ⁓ start training for it's called.
Loony Lindsey (28:27)
you
Yeah.
Ptara (28:46)
You
The Chad Ultra (28:53)
It's our own version. It's called Hamster Endurance Runs. And so it's a... They do up to a 32-hour loop race, and I've been wanting to do it. But it's the first week in August, and that's when I've been scheduling the Chad Ultra Ultra. So I changed it this year so I can run that race, and it's a good thing, because my friend that runs it said it's the last year that she'll be doing it. And then... And in March, I'm doing Moab Run the Rocks.
Ptara (28:56)
Ooh, okay.
okay.
The Chad Ultra (29:23)
three day stage race. ⁓
Ptara (29:23)
⁓ fun. That sounds
Loony Lindsey (29:25)
nice
Ptara (29:26)
hilly, is it? Run the rocks. Red flag.
The Chad Ultra (29:28)
It is, but it's...
Loony Lindsey (29:31)
the
The Chad Ultra (29:33)
So
they do like, they call it a full and a half pint. The full, which I signed up for because I was going to be in great shape. I think you do like 10 miles, then 26 and then 13, so like 50 miles over three days. Yeah, I might...
Loony Lindsey (29:41)
You
Ptara (29:48)
Okay. Wait, is this the
Loony Lindsey (29:49)
Over the three days, yeah.
Ptara (29:51)
race that, Suzy Chan, she ran like a three stage race through like the desert and it was kind of like that.
The Chad Ultra (29:52)
the same company that does
It's the same company that does trans Rockies
Ptara (30:01)
Okay.
Loony Lindsey (30:01)
Transrocky,
that's, yeah.
The Chad Ultra (30:03)
⁓ so I might drop down to do the half at this point, but we'll see. it's early March and.
Loony Lindsey (30:08)
So what is that?
Ptara (30:08)
And that's in March, you said?
Yeah,
I mean, I can give the advice. It's hard to take it. But with injuries, when we get older, the rest, you got to rest. And I know it's hard to do. I mean, I had to take six, I took five months off after I had my back surgery. And it was the hardest thing I ever did. But I honestly was like, I am, I do not want to do this again. So I'm doing it the right way. And honestly, just a little speed bump. So it's hard to swallow and
miss out and sit on the sidelines because as you guys know, the running community, honestly, I didn't miss running that much. I just missed my friends. So I was like showing up to races to cheer and, you know, I did it doing what I could because I couldn't run. I did miss running. But I like the community so much more than the actual exertion of running. Yeah, that's like a one star. The community five. So ⁓ but, know, you don't want to injure it more. But again, it's easy, easy to say. So.
The Chad Ultra (30:40)
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (30:50)
Yeah, the running the running part is terrible. Let's be honest here
The Chad Ultra (30:53)
Yeah, I'm to slice.
One thing I tell myself is you know, want to be running into my 80s so I can finally win some of those age group rewards and I I hot take I don't want to run Boston, but I hate marathons, but you know
Ptara (31:10)
You're gonna qualify for Boston when you're 85.
Loony Lindsey (31:10)
Same,
Ptara (31:16)
Yeah, well, there you go. Yeah, I was going say, you
don't really run anything less than ultra distance. So, oh, OK.
The Chad Ultra (31:24)
I do a lot of half marathons, but
yeah, I want to run into my 80s, so if I have to take a couple months off here, that's a drop in the bucket.
Ptara (31:32)
Right.
Yeah, exactly. Yep. ⁓ I have one question that I was going to ask you because I scrolled your ⁓ Instagram and in two thousand twenty four you won the favorite trail weirdo. Have you? wait, we haven't do we have an award? ⁓ my God. I'm so glad I found this. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (31:41)
Nope.
⁓ I apologize.
Loony Lindsey (31:46)
do tell.
The Chad Ultra (31:51)
⁓ yeah.
⁓
Loony Lindsey (31:56)
Let me see what it- ⁓ I love that! That's the coolest award
The Chad Ultra (31:59)
Thank you.
Loony Lindsey (32:00)
ever.
Ptara (32:00)
That
is very cool. Wait, is that 23 or 24?
Loony Lindsey (32:04)
23
The Chad Ultra (32:05)
23 but I got it that they announced in 2024 I don't think they let you so
Ptara (32:07)
okay, I was going to say, you win it twice? Like, are you a two timer? Okay,
so that was my question.
Loony Lindsey (32:14)
So what are the qualifications?
What do you have to do to be a favorite trail weirdo? I'm taking notes.
The Chad Ultra (32:21)
So you have to
be not afraid of self-promotion, which luckily cat altar isn't. So I lucked out. So I was ⁓ captain in an aid station at a race out here. And this guy runs through. He's shirtless, wearing Crocs, and running the 100 mile. And his name's Joel Gatton. Yeah, his name's Joel.
Ptara (32:43)
my god
Loony Lindsey (32:45)
That's insane.
The Chad Ultra (32:48)
And I think it's Gattenberg or something like that. I'm sorry, Joel. But he picked up the Chad Ultra vibes too, because I was like, you can't outdo me. So I took off my shirt and we took a picture together. And he had won the Trail Weirdo of the Year award prior. So I was like, I'm coming for your title. And between the Chad Ultra group that I have going on and the Yeti Trail runners, I think I got enough people to vote for me.
Ptara (33:05)
Okay.
Loony Lindsey (33:08)
you
Alright.
The Chad Ultra (33:18)
the photos I'm sure helped. And Joel actually campaigned for me too. He is involved with a group out here called the Cowgills Collective. They'll wear cow-colored clothing and they do a bunch of running and they're a good group. They're too fast for me to run with, but...
Ptara (33:31)
Interesting.
Yeah, I just saw
that like Ultra because Ultra sign up does those awards, correct? So they've been down to the I think there's five categories maybe and they've been like promoting and then so, you know, Paula. So Paula was at Ghost Train.
The Chad Ultra (33:39)
Yes.
Loony Lindsey (33:43)
you
The Chad Ultra (33:46)
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (33:48)
Yeah, she
just, yeah, didn't she win best rest? Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (33:51)
get best dressed and Yuki's
been one best dressed. So that was probably my biggest disappointment about Ghost Train is Yuki was supposed to show up and we were gonna take a photo together for Ultra Sign Up and Sheet of Wings. So.
Ptara (33:55)
Yeah.
she wasn't there.
⁓ I know Yuki
Loony Lindsey (34:05)
⁓ yeah
Ptara (34:07)
is Yuki's the best. But so Ultra Sign Up is like all over the US. So like anybody from where you are to New Hampshire. I mean, the fact that we know so many people that have won awards and they've been on the on the runs podcast. mean, that's pretty cool because I mean, I think is it Andy Glaze? Did he win? ⁓ OK, so it's like names and like Mike, that's pretty cool that I know these people. So.
Loony Lindsey (34:09)
She's incredible.
The Chad Ultra (34:19)
Thank you.
Yeah, he won weirdo this year.
Loony Lindsey (34:28)
Yeah.
Hahaha!
⁓
The Chad Ultra (34:33)
Yeah, it was kinda...
Ptara (34:33)
I was like, hi, they're
famous. I'll to get your autograph next time. On the shirt, yes. I'm to be like, hey, Chad, Jeremy Chad. Sign my boobs. I mean, sunglasses.
The Chad Ultra (34:36)
Yeah
Loony Lindsey (34:37)
can say no you need it on the shirt he's gonna have to sign your shirt you're gonna be like can you sign this
The Chad Ultra (34:51)
So ⁓
I won the award right before I've done Dark Anchor, not every year now, but most every year. And my sister for a Christmas present took my daughter and made me a shirt. ⁓ one of the original scenes of Chad Ultra was Chad Ultra never tired because of the acronym it makes. So she took my, at the time, my seven-year-old daughter to a shirt-making place.
Ptara (35:13)
Okay.
That's awesome. See you next Tuesday.
Loony Lindsey (35:18)
Hilarious.
The Chad Ultra (35:21)
And made me assured it was like Pink Sparkles said, Chad Ultra never tired. then Trail Weirdo of the year winner on.
Ptara (35:27)
Ha ha
that's great. That's great.
Loony Lindsey (35:30)
love that.
The Chad Ultra (35:32)
You
Loony Lindsey (35:34)
Well, Chad slash Jeremy, the first time I met you, you were sound asleep, snoring, just snoring away. So then the next time I came through, snoring away.
The Chad Ultra (35:38)
Ha ha ha!
I apologize.
Hahaha
Loony Lindsey (35:50)
like, maybe maybe he'll be awake at some point so I can actually meet him, which
Ptara (35:55)
Yeah, he was in
the pain cave when I showed up to and he looked really cold and I felt so bad because here I am fresh legs, nine hours of sleep, showing up to only run 15 miles. But you were you were very happy and very cheerful.
The Chad Ultra (35:57)
Ha!
Loony Lindsey (35:58)
Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (36:01)
Ha ha!
Loony Lindsey (36:06)
laughs
The Chad Ultra (36:09)
Yeah,
I was feeling better than I thought that would. It was pretty bad at night for me. ⁓ on the drive, I think I was getting ready to go to the race. I realized that I forgot my lube. So that, that was not good. And then, yeah, so was dealing with that overnight.
Ptara (36:24)
that's right. Never forget lube.
Loony Lindsey (36:29)
ever. Yeah, that's yeah, that's a code round right there.
Ptara (36:34)
hahaha
The Chad Ultra (36:36)
And that just slowed me down. So I got really cold and that slowed me down more. And yeah.
Ptara (36:40)
Yeah, because you have like,
Loony Lindsey (36:41)
You can
Ptara (36:42)
because
I asked you about this because I'm like, there's got to there's 100 people here and people have lube. But you have a very specific lube, right?
Loony Lindsey (36:46)
was gonna say, you can't ask someone else for a loom.
The Chad Ultra (36:51)
Yeah,
so they were selling body glide, which I bought there and I used it. just didn't work as well as what I normally use.
Ptara (36:57)
Yeah, I get that.
Loony Lindsey (37:00)
So what do you normally
Ptara (37:00)
There's...
Loony Lindsey (37:00)
use? What's your?
The Chad Ultra (37:02)
I normally use Vaseline is actually, think. Yeah.
Ptara (37:04)
He's like KY jelly.
Loony Lindsey (37:04)
Okay. I know I was
waiting for something real strange. He's like, have to go in the dark web and
The Chad Ultra (37:08)
I have started using... I've actually started using...
Ptara (37:12)
haha
The Chad Ultra (37:13)
⁓ What is it? The bikers use it as like Charmin Bud or something like that. And... Bicyclists. ⁓
Ptara (37:20)
from the leather chaps?
⁓
bicyclist. I was like, why do bikers need it? And also, were you running in leather shorts or something?
The Chad Ultra (37:31)
⁓
I might
one of these days.
Ptara (37:38)
⁓ god. ⁓ that's great. That's great. ⁓ Anyways, ⁓ so yeah, that was a good one. That was a good mix. I just went right to Motorcyclists and I'm like, why are they wearing lube?
Loony Lindsey (37:38)
That is hilarious.
My stomach hurts. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (37:49)
You
But yeah, I was
going to say winning the Ultra Sign Up award was pretty sweet because I mean also right after that they announced that they were looking for ambassadors and I was like, hey, you guys know me. ⁓ We can just change the name to Chad Ultra Sign Up.
Ptara (37:59)
Yeah.
⁓ here's your chance. They have to pick you. Yeah. Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (38:07)
Hey, I just won.
Ptara (38:14)
There you go. You're like, hi, you guys might know me.
The Chad Ultra (38:16)
I also used that line
with UltraSpyer. They did not bite on that one.
Loony Lindsey (38:20)
So.
Ptara (38:21)
No.
So are you at the room that you're in right now? Is that where you have like all your rewards and stuff? Or buckles? So all right, two part question for me. Favorite race ever doesn't matter the distance and favorite award.
The Chad Ultra (38:27)
yeah. Yeah, well...
So, favorite race ever, and I said it on the video I made for Ultra Sign Up, behind the bib, I'll plug it here, ⁓ Ghost Train, just the vibes from it, the volunteers, ⁓ and I honestly mean that. I went in the race knowing I haven't met Erica, and then I, of course, knew you guys from listening to you on the podcast, but it felt...
Ptara (38:48)
Oh, yay, New Hampshire. Rob is going to be so happy to hear that.
Loony Lindsey (38:55)
there.
The Chad Ultra (39:08)
like a race out here where I knew people and like everybody was just so nice and so welcoming and you know. yeah, yeah, one lady has an Airbnb in Maine called the Chadwick so I have plans to go out there at some point.
Ptara (39:14)
Yeah, and you probably left with 10 friends, at least. That's awesome.
Loony Lindsey (39:18)
Minimums!
Ptara (39:28)
there you go. Awesome. Alright so Ghost Train number one. Love that. Favorite award? Metal, buckle, loaf of bread, whatever.
The Chad Ultra (39:30)
Go to your favorite award. Award or medal or...
Loony Lindsey (39:37)
That old buckle.
The Chad Ultra (39:42)
I'm so It's not an award But I have a friend named Shannon and she makes these at all the races and hides them on the trail so you can find them They're they're little yetis they don't normally have sunglasses she made this one special for Chad
Ptara (39:54)
that's fun. ⁓ that's so cute.
I love that. That's cute. Those are fun. I know I love something that's like outside the box and not a metal. I mean, don't get me wrong. I love a metal like the ghost train. The ghost. got a ghost that said 15 miles on it and I loved it. ⁓ what is the Yeti? Which Yeti is that? Washington Yeti? Awesome. that's so cool.
The Chad Ultra (40:03)
And then.
Loony Lindsey (40:14)
Yep.
The Chad Ultra (40:15)
My 100 mile buckle. The Washington Yeti, which you run through a tunnel. So I found a place that makes these and.
Loony Lindsey (40:25)
That's amazing. Oh, I don't want to do that.
The Chad Ultra (40:26)
Because I'm a little egg-deaf.
Ptara (40:28)
Did Erica do that one? Okay. Okay. I think she
The Chad Ultra (40:29)
Yeah. That's where I met Erica in person. Um, I mean, if you like... Have my old man grown some groans?
Loony Lindsey (40:30)
Yep.
Ptara (40:39)
Hahaha
You had to self-propell yourself up out of that chair.
Loony Lindsey (40:43)
And
I'm also looking at your bookshelf because there's some interesting stuff on there.
Ptara (40:48)
yeah, you love to read too.
The Chad Ultra (40:49)
No, if you
want nerdy book recommendations So my friend just put on her first race. It's called loop out the year It's at the end of the year and she handmade all the medals, which is pretty cool
Ptara (41:00)
is
that the one where you placed in your age division?
Loony Lindsey (41:00)
That's it.
The Chad Ultra (41:03)
No, I don't think I've ever placed in my age to be-
Ptara (41:05)
Oh,
wait, you said you had it. was something saying that like, or you might place. Oh, you place out of the whole thing because there was only you said you were going to come in the top 10 because there was only seven people signed up. Ah, damn it.
The Chad Ultra (41:08)
I want to run it.
⁓ yes, yes. But more people signed up. So,
Loony Lindsey (41:19)
that's cool.
The Chad Ultra (41:20)
then there's actually, ⁓ this is Orca running and they're actually do a bunch of like half marathons and marathons road running. ⁓ yeah, I did this, they've actually put on a 18 hour and I did this, it's called one step closer. It's held at Lincoln park. And I guess that's the Lincoln park song.
Ptara (41:29)
cool. Free Willy. Cue the song.
Very cool.
⁓ all right. I was going to say, any connection? Awesome.
The Chad Ultra (41:42)
I do not know that going into-
Loony Lindsey (41:43)
I wish.
Wait, wait, so Jeremy...
The Chad Ultra (41:45)
Yes.
Loony Lindsey (41:49)
I really think that you need to one of these years, add this to your calendar, you need to come around and and knock it. And you need to make it a year that like, terror runs it in Erika and you know, Eric's not going to. But I feel like it'd be right up your alley. So you should look it up. I run it every year. You can do either a half or a full. ⁓ Obviously, yeah, the marathons are terrible.
Ptara (41:55)
Ha
The Chad Ultra (42:03)
He's too afraid to run against me.
Ptara (42:14)
He's doing the half. He doesn't do marathons. No.
Loony Lindsey (42:19)
When it's in this
town, Mill Knock at Maine, it's like a former mill town. And they got hit really hard when the Maine paper mill closed down. All the townspeople worked there, so they lost their jobs. so the race rector, Gary Allen, he came up with this race as a way to bring money into the town. So it's free. But the caveat is that if you sign up, you are agreeing to go up there and patronize all the businesses.
spend money and donate and everything. And there's no official water stops, it's just the race people come out, race people, the town people come out and set up their own water stops, but it's like Fireball and like Rumpelmints and homemade cookies and pickles and it's awesome. So look that up and you should... The chat, yeah, where is...
The Chad Ultra (43:00)
Yeah. ⁓
And
Ptara (43:07)
And you can stay, well, probably not. The Chad cabin is probably way far away. What's
it called? The
The Chad Ultra (43:14)
Chadwick it's in Portland
Ptara (43:15)
Chadwick. Yeah. Yeah. Milanocca is like almost near. It's right near Canada, so it's way up there.
Loony Lindsey (43:15)
Chadwick.
The Chad Ultra (43:21)
So you'll have
to ⁓ send me the name. There's no way I can spell that. ⁓ What time of year is it?
Ptara (43:25)
That's all I got
Loony Lindsey (43:26)
You ⁓
It's always the first Saturday in December. Yeah.
The Chad Ultra (43:35)
Okay.
Ptara (43:36)
So
it's very cold. So like the road is snow covered. So this. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (43:39)
And that's real cold, not Seattle cold.
Loony Lindsey (43:44)
Yeah. But I know you don't like heat and you don't like humidity,
so, or you don't like hot, yeah, so.
The Chad Ultra (43:48)
Yeah.
Ptara (43:50)
This West Coast boy might
not be built for the Millinocket.
Loony Lindsey (43:53)
I think he can do it. I
think he can do it.
The Chad Ultra (43:55)
I
can work up a sweat. I sweat like none other. I'll put it on my list. That sounds like fun. I might even do the full marathon just to...
Ptara (43:57)
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (43:58)
Okay.
Ptara (44:02)
⁓
you heard it here, He won't do Boston, but he might do Millenoket.
The Chad Ultra (44:06)
You
Loony Lindsey (44:06)
ReadCraft exclusive now.
The Chad Ultra (44:11)
The last,
Loony Lindsey (44:11)
So,
The Chad Ultra (44:12)
yes.
Loony Lindsey (44:12)
Jeremy, what's your ultimate race that you'd like to run, that you've never done, that you dream of?
The Chad Ultra (44:23)
Mm-hmm.
So, it's weird, because I hate the sun, I hate the heat, but I think I have to do Havlina one of these times. It ⁓ just... But it's so hot, so I... ⁓ But I think my friends will convince me to do one. I do have ⁓ another friend trying to convince me to do Coca-Dona, but...
Ptara (44:34)
I was going say Javelina.
Loony Lindsey (44:36)
the Jeff
Leagundrid.
Ptara (44:44)
Yeah.
Ooh, that's the like fun, isn't that like another costume one? No, okay. that's a, yeah. Yeah, that's a lot. What's the farthest you've ever run? Okay, all right.
Loony Lindsey (44:54)
Wow, that's...
The Chad Ultra (44:58)
No, that's 250 miler.
Loony Lindsey (45:00)
200, yeah. No big deal, just 250 miles.
The Chad Ultra (45:03)
No. Yeah. 100 miles. And
Loony Lindsey (45:07)
What's the... I was just gonna ask that.
Okay,
The Chad Ultra (45:13)
it took me, yeah, it took me 29 and a half hours to do.
Loony Lindsey (45:13)
so what's another 150?
Ptara (45:15)
That sounds terrible.
Okay. And how many times have you done that? okay.
The Chad Ultra (45:23)
once.
So it was my third attempt. Before that I did like I made it like 67 miles and then 81 but they gave me credit for the 100k so I have the 81 mile 100k under my belt.
Ptara (45:27)
good, all right.
there you go.
Nice. It's not like it's not for the week because who is it? think Panda Maurice. ⁓ Maybe it's ultra down. ⁓ Is that what that race is called? Ultra anchor down like ultra down anchor down. ⁓ He has attempted, I think, two or three times and he's come in the 80s, but he's he's still still chasing that 100.
The Chad Ultra (45:49)
⁓ thank you.
Loony Lindsey (45:49)
Anchor, anchor down.
to do the 100-year. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (46:01)
I- there's so much that can go wrong and-
Ptara (46:03)
Yeah, yeah,
any race, mean the factors are, they gotta be with ya.
The Chad Ultra (46:07)
Yeah.
And for me, I'm so slow that everything I had to find that right mindset to keep going and not stop. And, you know, I was kind of surprised with how smoothly everything went, you know, that best attempt, but, you know, smoothly, it still hurt really bad.
Ptara (46:14)
Yeah.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (46:31)
Was that
the Washington Yeti that you hit 100 at, right? I want to do one of those one of these days, but my running right now is fucking terrible, so.
The Chad Ultra (46:33)
Yeah. Yeah.
Ptara (46:36)
Awesome.
The Chad Ultra (46:39)
Come on out.
Ptara (46:43)
I don't care about the mileage, but I would love to do a full 24 and be there for the full 24 hours. I've never done that, but the fact that you can just take a two-hour nap if you want to, that intrigues me. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (46:43)
Hey.
It's a
whole nother ballgame like it because the the challenge is you want to stop every lap and you gotta it's so easy
Ptara (47:02)
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Yeah, I know. I dipped into it at Hamster Wheel almost two years ago. a year ago, when was that? 2024. And the vibe and the atmosphere was just so friggin cool. And like I could care less about my time, which is so different for me with road racing when I'm on the road and I'm running a 5k, a 10k, a half marathon. Like I'm hyper focused on what my pace is. And I hate that. So the fact that I could just go out there.
and just run until I didn't want to run anymore. I was like, this is awesome. And then I was eating mashed potatoes and pizza. was like, I'm like, this is awesome. This, yes.
Loony Lindsey (47:32)
This is my dream!
The Chad Ultra (47:35)
Well.
And honestly,
I took that mentality into my hundred and I think that made a big difference was I wasn't running a hundred miles. I was running for 30 hours. That's how long you have to do it. And it's like, like, okay, it doesn't matter how fast I go as long as I do that. I love, I love fixed time races though. I
Ptara (47:48)
Yeah, right. Right.
Loony Lindsey (47:50)
Yeah.
Ptara (47:56)
Yeah, exactly. Yep. Awesome.
Loony Lindsey (47:59)
That's a
good mindset for sure.
Ptara (48:01)
Yeah.
Yeah. Cool.
The Chad Ultra (48:04)
And
I think that's one thing that helps me too is, you know, I dress like an idiot and, you I don't look like your normal runner. So when I show up to the start line looking like this, I think to myself, you know, this is kind of like that spite energy is all of these motherfuckers think that I'm just here as a joke, but I'll keep going through the night when they all stop. And it is weird because, you know, you'll start out with a hundred, 200 people, but at 2 a.m. there's like eight people out there. It's crazy.
Ptara (48:23)
Yeah, exactly.
Right. Yep.
Yeah, that's the one thing that I love about running is that everybody looks different. Like you don't need to look a certain way to be a runner and forward is a pace. You could run a five minute mile or you could run a 15 minute mile. Like who cares? You're getting it done.
Loony Lindsey (48:34)
Soji.
Jeremy, are you going to do Ghost Train again at any point? I know it's like, I know it's a huge, you have to take time off and you have to fly across country or drive across the country.
Ptara (48:58)
Just a three day drive.
The Chad Ultra (48:58)
⁓
Yeah, so I'm definitely gonna do it again. ⁓ I'm working on convincing my wife to come out, excuse me, as like a vacation, hopefully this next year, but I'll do it as a volunteer if I do that, because I wanna see it from that end, but I definitely have plans to run it again. I just don't know when at this point.
Loony Lindsey (49:21)
Bye!
Ptara (49:27)
Awesome. We will definitely cross paths because I still need to get Oregon as a state. So whether that be an ultra or a half, I'll make sure I'm near you so you can come out and cheer. And if it's an ultra, I mean, maybe you'll even run the half because you do halves.
Loony Lindsey (49:28)
You should bark. ⁓
The Chad Ultra (49:36)
Did you look at that? yeah. I'll come out. Did you look at that Silver Falls? Yeah.
Did you look at that Silver Falls I sent you? Okay. ⁓
Ptara (49:47)
I did. That looks awesome. And I think that
might be the one. again, like I said, I am I think I have eight states lined up for this year. And yeah, I like over committed. It's it's bad. I said yes to everything and I'm like freaking out. And then I get into Chicago. So I'm running the Chicago Marathon, too. And I'm just like, boy, ⁓ boy. So we're. No, I don't I don't have anything out in the way I have Arizona ⁓ and that's it for West Coast. So.
Loony Lindsey (49:55)
for the yeah.
The Chad Ultra (49:55)
damn.
And do you have Washington already too?
Obviously you can come
out and hit Washington or Oregon. Do that will be official races?
Ptara (50:17)
Yeah.
Yeah, well, yeah, I need like a medal or something. I need an official time or a loaf of bread. mean, yeah.
The Chad Ultra (50:23)
Well, okay, channel for ultra.
Loony Lindsey (50:24)
He can make you a medal.
The Chad Ultra (50:27)
I
can make a 13.1 mile course for the chat ultra ultra.
Ptara (50:31)
Yes, I know. want to like I'm starting to do races that I can do back to back. So it's like easier with travel and expenses. So it would be cool if I could get a couple states out there in like a week span or even a weekend. I'm experimenting this year with a back to back like a Saturday, Sunday half. So we'll see how I hold up with that. Yeah, it'll be fine. I was like, and again, I don't care if I have to like interval it or something, just checking the state off. So but.
The Chad Ultra (50:52)
you'll be good.
Loony Lindsey (50:52)
You can do it.
You'll be fine.
Ptara (50:59)
Well, thank you so much for joining us. Love chatting with you and I'm sure we will be in touch and we will see you maybe in person sometime in the near future.
Loony Lindsey (51:01)
Yes.
The Chad Ultra (51:09)
Yes, thank you. I know a guy I'll talk to. Well, thank you so much for coming on my podcast.
Loony Lindsey (51:09)
Yeah, I want one of those shirts, by the way. Just saying.
Ptara (51:12)
Ha
Yeah, she wants she wants the Ultra Chad
shirt, but she also wants that one that you're wearing, but you have to wear it for a week straight.
The Chad Ultra (51:22)
What?
Loony Lindsey (51:23)
Yes, and I want it signed as well, please, and thank you. Thanks for joining us, Jeremy.
The Chad Ultra (51:25)
⁓ But yeah, definitely.
Ptara (51:25)
Yeah
Awesome.
The Chad Ultra (51:32)
Yep. Thank you for having me have have fun and remember just finish hard ultra hard.
Loony Lindsey (51:42)
Alright everyone, that was Chad Ultra. I hope you enjoyed that. He's such a fun guy to talk to. ⁓ And we are so happy that you joined us today. Thank you for listening. Don't forget to follow us on...
Ptara (51:55)
Facebook, Instagram,
YouTube, Strava. Nobody follows. We have a Strava group, but not a lot of people contribute. What else? Tiktok. that's right. That's yeah. Mm. Forgot about that. Although I will say Eric has been posting a lot from TikTok because apparently there's a feature in Riverside where he can make a clip and he can send it to whatever social media outlet he wants. So good job, boss.
Loony Lindsey (52:00)
⁓ Strava! There is a Strava group, TikTok, TikTok. Yeah, yours truly. That's yours.
Okay, cool.
Ptara (52:24)
picking up my Slack.
Loony Lindsey (52:24)
Thanks, boss.
Ptara (52:26)
Yeah, still waiting on that first paycheck. And yeah. So.
Loony Lindsey (52:31)
So
once again, thanks for joining us. We'll see you next month.
Ptara (52:37)
Never ever trust a fart.
Loony Lindsey (52:40)
and don't forget the butt wipes. Thanks guys. Bye.
Ptara (52:42)
Bye!
Ptara (53:41)
was the sign you had at ghost train and said something about your ex doesn't think you could finish? Yes. That was a great sign. I love that one.
The Chad Ultra (53:44)
Your ex doesn't think you can finish. Yeah.
Loony Lindsey (53:48)
I think I have a picture
The Chad Ultra (53:51)
one of the favorites always, you know, assholes keep going, but one of my other newer favorites is, Hey girl, sorry I made you DNF last night.
Ptara (53:58)
haha
Yes, love that. Love that.
Loony Lindsey (54:03)
hilarious.
