Don't Fear The Code Brown and Don't Forget To Stretch!

Ptara (00:00)
Eric, I think you should talk about how

Erika (00:00)
Gotcha.

Ptara (00:01)
this is a hockey podcast. Finally, finally episode whatever we're a hockey podcast.

Eric (00:03)
This is a hockey podcast.

Erika (00:04)
It took long enough, right?

Eric (00:26)
What's up,

episode 210 of the On the Runs podcast, a very special episode as the bald eagle has landed in the men and the-

champions for the huge United States of America

After losing six or seven of his teeth, he has engraved his name as an American legend for the rest of eternity, just like Mike Rusciani-Gloroni did 46 years ago to the day of the Miracle on Ice. The USA has beaten America's hat, and for the next four years we can brag about it as the men and women are gold medal champions. What a moment for this country. What a time to be alive. One very special bonus episode, and we're gonna talk all about it with my amazing Rock Starver co-host,

Six star Erica!

What's up?

Erika (01:21)
USA USA What is going on? What a day for the Americans man. What a day Emergency

Eric (01:28)
This is an emergency pod. It's Sunday night.

The USA won the gold today. I texted you and Tara said emergency pod because I knew we were all heavily involved in the games and this was so much fun. So this might even be dropping on Monday. I'm so excited. Emergency podcast Olympic update. No running on this podcast. If you want running, check us out in the next episode. But Erica, what time did you set your alarm this morning to catch the USA hockey game?

Erika (01:33)
USA Yup

Yes.

10 AM. Yeah, I definitely slept through most of it. But you know who didn't sleep through it? Our girl, Tara Pterodactyl, who is joining us today. So she's going to definitely fill in for what I slept through.

Ptara (02:11)
I slept last night because I was so excited. We've been waiting 46 years for this. 46!

Erika (02:13)
Seriously?

Eric (02:16)
six years.

Erika (02:16)
I'm

Eric (02:17)
Terra

was almost awake by the time you went to bed by the

Ptara (02:20)
Yeah. Yep.

Erika (02:21)
Terra's been awake

four hours before the game started.

Ptara (02:25)
ran 11 miles before the game started.

Erika (02:28)
See what I mean? She was prepped. Prepped and ready to go.

Eric (02:28)
Wow, that's your running content for this episode. ⁓

Ptara (02:31)
Yes, that's all I'll

say.

Eric (02:33)
I wanted you two to do another Olympic episode like you did for the Summer Olympics. I was just like, we gotta do this one, because this is such a big deal. USA, men and women both beating Canada. Unbelievable. Yes, yes, we're a hockey podcast. But, all right, so let's start with the women, ladies first.

Erika (02:42)
See, we're getting into your territory. Mm-hmm. Hockey podcast now.

Ptara (02:55)
All right, so I'm going to take the lead on this one because I come from a hockey family. Mom played hockey at BU, go mom. Big, big Bruins fans. And women's hockey is it, you know? So I was locked and loaded Thursday for the championship game and it was on at 1 10 in the afternoon. Beautiful. I had a couple of work meetings, but I blew them off because USA. Yeah, I was actually attending the meetings, but I have I was on mute.

Erika (02:57)
Take it away, baby.

That's a true fan right there.

Ptara (03:22)
But ⁓ my god, that game was awesome and I felt bad because Erica was at work and she's like, don't spoil it. I'm watching it when I get home.

Erika (03:22)
That's fair.

You know what though? It got spoiled and I was like whatever you enjoy yourself. I will watch highlights.

Ptara (03:33)
But I will say that game, I told

people I said, watch it. If you didn't watch it, watch the last three minutes of the third period and then watch the overtime because that was where all the action was.

Eric (03:41)
Yeah.

Erika (03:41)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (03:43)
So let's backtrack a little bit. USA and Canada women's hockey have been the gold medal game since like Nagano in 1998. think one year maybe they weren't because like an upset maybe Sweden or Finland beat the US and then Canada just dominated. So USA, Canada have kind of been even 50-50. Maybe give the edge to Canada. The USA have taken over not just these Olympics, but the past year or so.

They always play like four or five games the year of the Olympics too to like prep and they play in the worlds and everything every year. It's every year it's USA Canada women's. The USA has just taken over and the USA won every game this year four in a row against Canada before the Olympics. Then I think they only allowed two or three goals the entire tournament including beating Canada five to nothing in the like the early early games. But Canada showed up for this game hardcore like they

Erika (04:18)
Mm.

Eric (04:37)
Like, hey, we're the underdogs, but we're going to play like the Americans did in 1980.

Ptara (04:42)
Yeah, it was, I mean, it was a great game. was what you want in a gold medal game. I mean, both men's and women's, you want overtime. Like, that's awesome. I think I was telling you guys, I was like, I am so nervous right now. And I'm like, freaking naughty. I have nothing to do with this game, but I was so nervous.

Erika (04:42)
It's a beautiful thing.

you

Eric (04:56)
Yeah.

I know. Were you sweating bullets?

Erika (04:57)
Can we just talk about how many overtime

periods were in the finals for both men's and women's? The men's team, there were three sets of overtime games right before you got to the finals. I'm like, how does this happen? The matchups are insane.

Eric (05:06)
Yes.

Well, and the competition's so tight. It really is. And on the women's side, it was just USA-Canada. But Tara, were you sweating bullets? Because it was late in the game. Did you see the Kelseys, by the way? Travis and ⁓ Kylie Kelsey, like, they posted a reel of all the emotions they were going through.

Erika (05:14)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (05:20)
god.

Yes! ⁓

Yeah, that was awesome because you and I were texting back and forth and you were like, is that who Jason you're like, is that Jason Kelsey? And I was like, yeah, I think it is. And then sure enough, that showed a picture of him on I think it was on X or something. Yeah. But it's so cool because you don't like and the thing for me to be in a female in sports. ⁓ There was so many notable people at that game. And to see that type of support for women's sports was awesome. It was so cool.

Eric (05:37)
Jason Kelsey. Yeah.

He's the best.

Erika (05:45)
I think I saw that reel.

Tara, me and you need to go to a game.

Eric (05:57)
I mean, you had Wayne Gretzky, Tom

Brady, Marc Messier, like those are hockey guys or Snoop Dogg. yeah, Snoop.

Ptara (06:04)
Snoop Dogg.

Erika (06:05)
Mm hmm. Didn't I see Simone

Biles in the the crowd at one of the games? I feel like I did. I think so.

Eric (06:10)
Might have been. Do

Ptara (06:10)
Might have been,

Eric (06:11)
you think these, so you actually saw like in the men's game today, the women's team was there and they had maybe an Olympic figure skater, somebody else at the game. Do you think they have to pay for their tickets? Like this arena only held like 7,000, maybe it was 11,000. It's smaller than the one in Manchester, New Hampshire. So do you think...

Ptara (06:22)
Who?

Erika (06:29)
Those are some sought after

Ptara (06:30)
wow. Maybe do you think they just

Erika (06:31)
tickets.

Ptara (06:32)
they walk in with their metal and then they're like, Yeah, you're good. Yeah, yeah, you can you can go you're good.

Eric (06:33)
Is their medal their ticket? Yeah.

Erika (06:36)
would hope so.

Eric (06:38)
I mean, let's be honest, Olympic, Olympian athletes, if you're not a pro already like the hockey guys, they don't make a lot of money. They have, we talked about Nick Baumgartner earlier, he's like an electrician or a plumber or something for his full-time job. So yeah, they're all regular people. They don't have thousands to drop on these games.

Ptara (06:51)
Yeah, they have regular jobs. Yeah. Yeah.

Erika (06:52)
He's a regular guy!

Ptara (06:58)
Right, they pay their way too, most of them.

Erika (07:00)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (07:00)
Right, yeah. And then

you got guys like Snoop Dogg, he's paid to be there. Kelsey, who knows? Tom Brady has all the money. He took all his kids and everything. They have all the money in the world, but these athletes, it's so cool to see them. So I hope their tickets are covered by their country, you know. Yeah.

Ptara (07:17)
Yes, definitely.

Erika (07:17)
They gotta have credentials

or something. Come on. You gotta hook up to athletes.

Ptara (07:20)
Yeah, I would think

like as an Olympic athlete, you get some type of badge and you get passes to like everything. And I would think the competitions would be one. But then again,

Erika (07:24)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (07:28)
I bet,

yeah, maybe the teams get like X amount of tickets per event and then they say, okay, you can have it or you might have to ask, you know, yeah.

Ptara (07:36)
Right.

Yeah, because something that makes sense, like if you're going into a arena and it only seats X amount of people, you can't just let everybody in. So you do have to have a ticket. So I don't know. That'd be a question.

Eric (07:44)
Right.

Yeah, we'll have to get an Olympian on the pod and maybe ask them, you know. you're right. You're right.

Ptara (07:51)
Yes.

Erika (07:51)
We've had an Olympian on the pod, man. Kira, duh. I'm pretty

sure she's had some sort of credentials. So we'll see. We can ask her again.

Eric (07:59)
Yeah, well, we'll have to

ask a friend or get another one, maybe one from these Olympics. Like think of one and I'll try. Get one that you know you think is interesting. Maybe that. That's the one we're going to go for Nick.

Ptara (08:07)
Okay.

Erika (08:07)
All right. Bob Gartner, let's go.

Ptara (08:12)
He would be cool.

Or an easier one. think you should get the guy from Maine that was on the quad bobsled team. He would be a good one because he literally has like he he's the nine to five guy. He's from freaking Maine. I don't even know where, but that would be a cool guest.

Eric (08:18)
Okay.

Erika (08:19)
Sweet,

local, we got it.

Right on.

Eric (08:28)
Speaking of

bobsled and those things, whoever thought dual people luge was a good idea? And like, how do you choose top or bottom? For like same sex luge? Who's top, who's bottom? I saw a lot of that. I saw a lot of that. I saw one joke was like, who thought this was gonna be a good sport? And the joke was like, Ace and Bailey thought it would be a good sport. Not sure if everyone gets that reference, but.

Ptara (08:34)
Who, how drunk was the person that invented that sport?

Yeah, right? yeah. Yeah.

Erika (08:44)
Do I?

Ptara (08:51)
haha

Erika (08:51)
Hold on. Did I send you guys the reel?

I don't. ⁓ I found a reel. Somebody was making a joke. And it was like, all right, so you've got skeleton. And it shows like a stick figure like head first. And then you have luge, and it shows it the other way. But then you have this new sport called scloos, where you slap them together. So you've got one person going head first. It was just a total joke. But I was like, ⁓ how do they come up with these sports? It's so crazy. Dangerous too. my god.

Ptara (09:13)
Yeah.

Eric (09:18)
It's so cool though because there are sports

that you don't see every day. I would be totally fine if hockey was not in the Olympics, but hockey is, ⁓ it's the big one for the Olympics and we'll get into why it's so big in a moment, but Hillary Knight, Captain America, comes in clutch with the tip from the shot from the point. I can't think right now who took that shot from the point, but tips it with like two minutes and 40 seconds to go, ties the game.

Erika (09:22)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (09:29)
Yeah. Yep.

Erika (09:29)
Mm-hmm. Hockey.

Ptara (09:33)
Yes. Yep.

Eric (09:45)
And it's funny because the USA dominated this game but couldn't score. Kind of like how Canada dominated the men's game but couldn't score. Hillary Tisett becomes the all-time USA women's hockey Olympic goals leader in her fifth and possibly final Olympics. She could still go in four years. She usually could. But while getting engaged the day before, like that's a baller move.

Ptara (10:02)
Yeah, absolutely.

Yeah, figure to a figure skater, right? They met a speed skater and they met four years ago at the Olympics. Yeah. Yep.

Eric (10:10)
No, speed skater.

Erika (10:14)
my God, I love me

Eric (10:14)
No way.

Erika (10:16)
a good love story.

Eric (10:17)
And I watched,

I can't think of her name and this is like I said, emergency pod, so a lot of things are gonna be like, oh, what was that name? But I watched her race, she finished fourth in the 1500, which is her last Olympics, the speed skater who's now engaged to Hillary. I was, you know, I watched that race and she was so, like we're talking tenths of a second or less from a podium.

Ptara (10:31)
Yeah, well...

Well, she can just ride the coattails of her wife because she's in the women's hockey league and she's friggin legend.

Erika (10:39)
Mm.

Eric (10:45)
Yeah, think Captain

for Seattle is where Hillary plays now. But then one of our very own from the Boston fleet, Megan Keller, comes in clutch in overtime and beats a Canadian goose one on one.

Ptara (10:49)
Yeah, I think you're right.

That goal was so sick and she's a defenseman and she, oh my God, that crossover in the back, was like, I jumped off my couch and I was screaming. My dogs were like, what is happening? And I was just fist pumping. I was crying because I was like, this is so cool. She is a legend. Love that girl.

Eric (11:02)
Yes.

Yeah. Well,

forever in women's hockey is going to be like engraved as a hockey legend. ⁓ Erica, you're drinking. What are you drinking?

Erika (11:29)
I a cold snap from Sam Adams. I got a snow day tomorrow, you guys. So we're recording Sunday night. So I don't have to work tomorrow. So I figured a nice little beverage would be refreshing.

Eric (11:31)
Colt Snap Sam Adams, Sam Adams shout out.

Ptara (11:31)
with Sam Adams.

Eric (11:39)
Maybe you could do some research

on our guest tomorrow night then. But I digress. ⁓ We'll talk more about Sam Adams on the Tros when we get back to a running podcast. But what a cool moment. Like the pressure though.

Ptara (11:45)
No, she'll be sleeping until noon.

Erika (11:45)
We'll see.

Nothing wrong with that.

Ptara (11:51)
Yes, yes.

So one other, can I say

one other, one other cool stat about the women's hockey game? I don't know the goalie's name. She had a 0.980 save percentage. She let one goal go the entire Olympics and it was in the gold medal game. I was, I was like, that's a stat. my God. The men's goalie too. ⁓ that guy, plays for the Winnipeg jets. And now I'm, I'm actually like, it's funny because

Erika (11:59)
Please.

Eric (12:04)
Yeah, they're both insane, both goalies.

Erika (12:08)
Pretty sure that was more than the men's goalie. I think so. He had like a 0.97 or something. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Anywho.

Eric (12:22)
But where did he play college? Come on, on girls. UMass Lowell.

Ptara (12:25)
⁓ UMassWall.

Erika (12:28)
I'm like, why would I know that? Don't ask me any questions like this. I don't know anything.

Ptara (12:28)
Yeah, I got it. Yeah. And I went to high school with one of the ⁓ men's coaches that was on the, yeah, on the bench. Pretty cool. Yeah.

Erika (12:39)
Really? That's awesome.

Eric (12:41)
So the

goalie's name is was Erin Frankel, but she spells her name cool A-E-R-I-N.

Erika (12:43)
I know him.

Ptara (12:46)
Aaron Frankel.

⁓ interesting.

Eric (12:50)
Yeah,

so she was incredible. She's from New York, plays for the Boston Fleet too, by the way. So yeah.

Ptara (12:55)
⁓ sick.

Erika (12:56)
We gotta

go to a game, damn it. We gotta. Sold.

Ptara (12:57)
We gotta go to a fleet game. I'm in. I'm all about it now.

Eric (12:59)
We do, they play in Lowell,

they play where Connor Hellebuck played in Lowell at the Songus Arena. That's where they play. Yeah.

Erika (13:03)
Nice. Nice!

Ptara (13:04)
Let's all go. Maybe we could

get one of them. We could do a live pod after.

Erika (13:08)
Can we get mics and just mic us up while we're in there? So fun.

Eric (13:08)
Week- ⁓

Ptara (13:10)
Yeah.

Eric (13:11)
Maybe we could like get her

on the pod, live pod. ⁓

Ptara (13:14)
Yeah, and we'll

be at the woman aquarium. Not the man aquarium, but the woman aquarium.

Erika (13:17)
⁓ I support that so much. The girl aquarium,

not the boy aquarium. I support all aquariums.

Eric (13:24)
So one I was really happy to

the women I would love to see out there, and she's been an American for a while, just like Hillary Knight, is Kendall Coyne Schofield. She was out there with her kid after celebrating, like holding her kid on her hip like three, four years old. So cool to see. So years ago, around the last Olympics, the NHL for the All-Star game, when the NHL players weren't going, they brought women from the Canada and USA team to the All-Star game to do the skills competition with them.

And like one guy, think it was Connor McDavid actually was hurt. so Kendall took his spot and she did not finish last in the fastest skater. So she beat somebody else and it was just so cool. Cause there's so the NHL does such a great job with women's hockey and getting like it known and out there in the PWHL right now is, is doing really well. So it would just, I want to see it do well for the longest time because

Ptara (14:04)
cool, love that.

Erika (14:04)
Okay. Nice.

Eric (14:22)
The WNHL before that failed. so hopefully the PWNHL or whatever is going to just kick ass. So they're growing. You've got teams in Minnesota, Seattle, Wisconsin, Boston, Ottawa, Montreal. So it's, ⁓ it's growing because before it was just like Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, Hartford, in New York. So they all bust around everywhere on the weekends and worked real jobs during the week. And now

They're legit pro hockey players traveling by airplane, first class. NHL is doing it. I'm pretty sure.

Erika (14:56)
Need to fund these better, yes. Let's go.

Ptara (14:56)
That's awesome.

Yeah, this win at the Olympics is going to be I bet there's going to be little girls putting on hockey skates this week.

Erika (15:02)
Skyrocket.

Eric (15:04)
Yeah.

Well, that's another thing. This does so much for hockey. Like the Boston Bruins in the 70s grew hockey so much, winning the Cups. And then Massachusetts built all those hockey ranks and hockey and mass blew up in the 70s. And that's why the Miracle Knights 1980 team had a ton of players from Massachusetts. Before it was just Minnesota. And now the hotbed in the country for hockey is Minnesota and Massachusetts. in really New England.

Erika (15:32)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (15:33)
And then the 1980 team wins and it blows hockey up and gets it on everyone's radar in the country. Then Wayne Gretzky gets traded to a team in California. Now you've got three teams in California and hockey is just growing everywhere in areas you wouldn't think. Florida, Arizona, California, Texas, areas you'd never would think. ⁓ Erica, pop quiz. When's the last time a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup?

Erika (15:57)
Stanley Cup? I have no idea. I can't even guess.

Eric (16:01)
Pteroterodactyl, you gotta guess?

Ptara (16:04)
I don't, but I know I'm going to say it's been more than 10 years.

Erika (16:06)
Ahem.

Eric (16:07)
Oh no, it's been a lot longer than that. Yeah, yeah. 1993, the Montreal Canadiens. Yeah, they came really close in 2011, but a team from Boston won that year. Yeah, yeah. Ooh, game seven. Yes!

Erika (16:09)
Really?

Ptara (16:09)
okay.

wow.

⁓ right, ooh. Ooh. Sorry Canada,

suck it again.

Eric (16:29)
So the men's game today. 8 a.m. puck drop. I loved it. I would have hated a one o'clock puck drop. I hate one o'clock football games, one o'clock NASCAR races. I really like that 6 p.m. start time. 8 p.m. is okay because it's late. But 8 a.m. was awesome. I loved it.

Erika (16:47)
Yeah, your kids are in bed. Maybe.

Ptara (16:51)
Yeah, it was great.

Erika (16:52)
So you didn't ski today?

Ptara (16:52)
There were so many.

Erika (16:54)
You just watched the game?

Eric (16:54)
I did, I'm

still wearing my snow pants we went after the game.

Ptara (16:58)
So speaking of skiing, was, I was going to say there was so many businesses I saw that I follow on social media that opened at 8 a.m. today, bar open, had all these specials and they're like, come watch the gold medal match. I have a friend of mine that she went and skied at Loon. Everybody was in the lodge. The lodge was packed. She posted a video and people, everyone had beers and drinks and everyone was like, know, like at 1030 in the morning. And I was like, how cool is that?

Erika (16:59)
multitask.

That's awesome.

That's how you get me skiing, you guys, if you just plop me in the lounge and I can just sit there and watch TV. Yeah. ⁓

Eric (17:25)
Yes, absolutely. We'll do that. We'll do that.

Let's talk a little bit about the path to the game. So the USA ranked after the entire round Robin second, and they drew a tough match in the first round. Robin, it was Sweden, and it's like, ⁓ all the teams, you don't want to play Sweden, but they beat Sweden and overtime. Quinn Hughes saw ghost and scored the game winner. Fun fact, by the way.

Quinn and Jack Hughes, their mom was an assistant coach on the women's team. So all the Hughes's won. And Quinn wins the game in overtime. And I think that was a game when the USA led for the most of the game, won nothing. In Sweden tied it late.

Erika (17:58)
or shit.

Ptara (18:01)
very cool.

Erika (18:01)
you

Eric (18:10)
So did either of watch that game? No. Okay.

Ptara (18:12)
now.

Erika (18:13)
only really seen

a lot of the just the eight minute replays of like the... Yeah.

Eric (18:16)
Okay. Fair. Fair. All right.

So they win that game and they drew Slovakia. Try saying that three times fast. Yeah. Which I learned used to be Czechoslovakia. So that's That's it. Slovakia. used to be Czechoslovakia and they split at some point and then it became Czech Republic. so that's where Big Z is from, Zdeno Charo. And unfortunately, like they had a goalie from the AHL. Funny enough, the Minnesota Wild, both of their goalies were in the Olympics for Team Sweden.

Erika (18:24)
Slovakia, Slovakia.

Ptara (18:30)
Yes.

Erika (18:30)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (18:46)
Their starting goalie for their minor league team was Slovakia's goalie. So the Minnesota Wild, their one, two, and three goalies were in the Olympics. That's kind of cool. goalie played incredible throughout the whole thing, but he ended up allowing four goals. The USA, that was an easy game for them. That was probably their easiest game to win to go to the gold medal.

Ptara (18:53)
very cool. Yeah.

Eric (19:05)
Canada's trip to the gold medal game was a little different. It was super easy. They won all their games easy in the round robin and Then they won their first game. ⁓ then they go to the playoffs the single elimination. They So they faced the Czech Republic first who they beat five nothing in the first game of the Olympics and the Czechs almost won It was so close and the Czechs were winning and I'm skiing at Jay Peak actually doing lunch watching this on my phone

Erika (19:28)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (19:31)
with like a minute to go, they're tied, they get a breakaway and they can't score on the breakaway. like, my God, if Canada loses, they're not even gonna medal. What a disappointment. And then Canada wins in overtime. And it was so close. The Czechs put up such a hard fight. So that was that game. Any comments from you two?

Erika (19:46)
Was this the,

which game is the one that you were like bitching about the refs? Which game was that? Okay. All right. Yeah.

Eric (19:51)
That's the next one. So then they play Finland.

Ptara (19:52)
The next one, yeah.

Eric (19:56)
And ⁓ I'm OK. I would like to see Finland do well. I'm Finnish. But the two refs were Canadian. Why did they do that? Not only that, it was Eric like Fernand or something. He's French Canadian. The French Canadian referees are the worst because they always ref in favor of Montreal. You know, it's it's it's this isn't news, guys.

Erika (19:58)
Give us the tea,

Ptara (20:04)
Yeah.

now.

Eric (20:18)
was one penalty on Canada and it was called by the linesmen who can only make one call. So I don't know if you know this, referees make the penalty calls, the linesmen call offsides and icings. Linesmen though can make one penalty call. Do you know what the call that is? Too many men on the ice. So these Canadian referees did not call any penalties on Canada.

Ptara (20:35)
No.

Eric (20:43)
But they called, in my opinion, some soft penalties that I would have liked to see let go. Now, yeah, high stick is a high stick. But man, Nathan McKinnon should win an Emmy for that embellishment. I thought, here's what I thought, as a guy who's refereed a lot, that's a perfect moment to take both. One minute to go in a game, you take McKinnon for embellishment, you take the other guy for the high stick. Instead,

Erika (20:52)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (20:58)
Yeah.

Eric (21:12)
They took the high stick. Canada wins the game. So, it's like the, we'll get, there's too many men on the ice in the USA game. Yes, there was. Did it have an impact in the game? No. Did the referees let it go? Yes. Good on them. That's a good non-call. In my opinion. and that's like the guy just throws the puck up the ice and hits him in the skate. Like, he made, it made no impact.

Erika (21:16)
Mm.

Ptara (21:21)
⁓ didn't call it.

Yeah. Yeah, I agree.

Erika (21:32)
Yes.

Eric (21:39)
on the call. I know Erica, you're trying to get something in. I'm just going off. What's up?

Ptara (21:41)
you

Erika (21:41)
No,

no, I really have nothing to contribute to this, so I'm just letting you go. I yes, I was agreeing with you, because I'm like, what the fuck do I know? Anywho.

Ptara (21:44)
No, she was like, yeah.

Eric (21:46)
How?

So,

all right, Tara, tell me your thoughts on the USA game.

Ptara (21:53)
so...

Eric (21:53)
Which,

official wise, I thought it was perfect. One USA referee and one Canadian referee, both were together for the USA game before that, and they're both really good officials, and the USA referee is from Boston, actually. Chris Rooney.

Ptara (22:08)
Okay. All right. I

didn't know that, but yes, that's good. yeah, we got out, we started out on fire. You know, we come out of the gates and we score a goal and I'm just like, my God, my God, this is happening. then like we literally played defense for the rest of the game. Like the shots on goals, what was it? Like 47 to 27 or something. Like it was insane. Yeah, they were.

Eric (22:31)
It was insane. Canada took over, but the USA

could have built that lead. They had like three or four golden opportunities to shoot the puck.

Ptara (22:36)
Ugh.

But what about that guy on Canada? He had a wide open net and he freaking missed. I was like...

Eric (22:44)
Yeah. You know what that is? That's

karma for his acting job the game before. That was Nathan McKinnon. Yeah.

Erika (22:47)
What is he, me?

Ptara (22:49)
Yes, exactly. But it was

just like there were so many opportunities on both teams. I will say and I'm friggin flagged behind me USA all the way, but Canada skated the best. They outplayed the USA.

Eric (23:02)
What was

like the women's game? Where the women were the dominant team but couldn't score for the longest time. Yeah.

Erika (23:03)
watching Brad Marsh on.

Ptara (23:07)
Yes, like they

were on paper. They were the better team today. And I mean,

Eric (23:12)
They were the better

the last 46 years. Yeah.

Ptara (23:14)
Yeah, yeah, true, true.

Erika (23:15)
Hahaha

Ptara (23:16)
I even like we were back and forth in the chat and I was like, I am so friggin nervous. And then Eric called it. He's like, I'm like, my god, over time. And he's like, well, I think their only chance at winning is three on three.

Eric (23:27)
Yeah, so that's not typical in hockey and I would have, you know what, everyone knows the rules. Canada right now is the Canadian tiers are all like, you should never choose a winner of three on three. You got to go five on five. I agree. I agree. But we knew the rules going in guys. This, isn't anything new. The Olympics are like, we're not playing five overtimes here. We're going to end this thing as quickly as we can.

Ptara (23:44)
All right. Yep.

should have ended it in regulation. But yeah,

my god, the overtime. I'm so glad that it was fast because I was having heart palpitations, I was pacing, I was like my dogs. yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ it was so awesome. I was screaming, it was awesome.

Erika (23:59)
Eric called that too. You did. What a beaut.

Eric (24:03)
I said that was gonna be real quick. I said this gonna be over real quick.

I did think overtime was our best chance. Yeah, you did wait. You slept through the first two periods. So when did you actually join in the game, Erica?

Erika (24:11)
I was awake for overtime, you guys. I was awake for that. That's why I didn't.

Ptara (24:14)
You

Erika (24:19)
I had 10 minutes left in the third, which was perfect, because I still got to see some action. And then it was like, ⁓ it's overtime.

Eric (24:22)
So that.

I mean, that was some action.

Connor Hellebuck, that one save, there's an overhead picture of it. He better print that photo, put it above his mantle. Then also one time the puck got behind him and Charlie McEvoy got there on the goal line and made a save.

Ptara (24:30)
my god, with the stick? Ugh, that's like-

Yes,

our guy Charlie. Shout out Bruins. Did you know that Charlie McAvoy's father-in-law was his coach? Yeah. Yep. Another fun fact.

Eric (24:46)
Yes. Yeah. Mike Sullivan. Yep. They just had a baby. He's had a year, you know, last year

Erika (24:47)
Really?

Eric (24:52)
in the four nations, which is similar to this Erica, had a big injury that ended his season. Then this year took a slap shot to the jaw, broke his jaw. And then his newborn baby's going through a lot. And I think we're, I think we're over the hump right now. And he's in the Olympics. ⁓ Just two days before leaving, he took a massive, a nasty elbow to the head.

Erika (24:55)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (24:59)
⁓ that was nasty.

Yeah.

Erika (25:05)

Eric (25:16)
in the last game before the Olympics and he thought he might be out, but man, he was, he was so good. He was so good. And man, like I, I would love to see that captain C on him in Boston. will probably be pasta, but.

Ptara (25:21)
Yeah, he was awesome.

Yeah. What, ⁓ can you tell me what happened with Sidney Crosby? Was he ill or something? ⁓ he's injured. ⁓ okay.

Eric (25:33)
We don't know what his injury is. He got injured in the Czech Republic game

and he was listed as day-to-day. So, cool fact actually. The Olympics take out a massive insurance policy to have the NHL players come play in the Olympics. And they must weigh the pros and cons in this. But if a guy gets injured, like these are the best players on every NHL team. So, if Charlie McEvoy gets hurt,

and he's out the rest of the year and the Bruins are trying to make the playoffs, you just lost your best defenseman. Sidney Crosby, the best player in the world, is injured and Pittsburgh might not get him back now. So I don't know how the insurance policy works, but my assumption is the owner of the Penguins who pays Sidney Crosby gets paid in reimbursement. So if he's paying him a million dollars, he's actually paying him like 10 million.

Erika (26:20)
Wow.

Ptara (26:21)
okay.

Eric (26:25)
Sidney Crosby still makes his money, but the owner gets 10 million back from that insurance policy to make up for losing his player playing in a different tournament for a different team. These players want to play in this, so they give up a lot to play in this. They really do.

Erika (26:30)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (26:37)
Yeah.

Yeah, I made the comment because I was like, I'm a big hockey fan, well, a Bruins fan. But it's funny because it's like a lot of these teams that are in the States, if you look at their roster, three quarters of their players are not from the States. So when they were doing the silver medal, they were handing them out. They're like Brad Marsh and Sidney Crosby, Conor Mc... And I was like, oh my, I'm like, that's literally like the best players in the NHL. They're all fucking Canadian. I was like, I know every single one of these. I know in half...

Erika (26:38)
That is insane.

Eric (26:56)
Right. Right.

Erika (27:01)
You

Eric (27:01)
Yes. There's, there's no other sport. There's no other

sport where you can do this. You can't do like basketball doesn't have this, even though they got the dream team. There's no competition. Baseball is in the Olympics, right? There's no competition. Soccer, the USA stinks. So there's no competition. Like no one cares over here. The women are pretty good actually, but you don't get this in any other sport but hockey because it is such a global sport. And as, as, as, ⁓

Ptara (27:07)
No!

Great.

Yeah.

Right.

Eric (27:31)
an American or Canadian, like it's getting harder and harder. It used to just be a North American sport. The North American game is very different than the European game, but it is very, very hard. ⁓ Your competition is so stiff and so much harder. Like you need to be the best in your league and maybe you have a chance. So it's super cool because Sweden and Finland could have usually been facing off in the gold medal game. Slovakia almost won bronze. Czech Republic, Germany did really good. You wouldn't think of this.

right in any of sports.

Ptara (28:02)
Very cool.

Eric (28:03)
You know what else is really cool about hockey players?

No teeth. Shout out to my brother with missing teeth now, Jack Hughes. What's up, buddy?

Ptara (28:13)
Yes,

that picture of him. my God, with the flag. Yes, that is so iconic. Like, Eric, you're going to be showing your grandchildren that and telling them that story about the 2026 Olympics.

Eric (28:17)
I'm gonna buy that t-shirt.

He

could stop playing, like he could be, he's an amazing hockey player, but let me use a reference here. Do remember the 2014 Olympic games? Do you remember the shootout? Just went like 13 rounds, it was the same guy, TJ Oshie, against Russia. Come on. Okay, well.

Ptara (28:39)
I don't.

I don't remember it.

Erika (28:45)
I just recognize

his name because he's doing commentary now. Brandon was talking about him.

Eric (28:50)
Right, but

he wouldn't be that guy if he didn't have his moment in the Olympics for USA. Beating Russia in the shootout in the Olympics then, you could use the same guy every round. Unlike the NHL, you use a different guy. So Oshie shot like eight times and scored like seven of the eight and won the game. Mike Arugioni, scoring the game-winning goal of the Miracle on Ice, he was the captain. He wasn't, I don't even know if he played in the NHL. You get what I'm saying here? Forever.

Ptara (29:01)
Right.

Erika (29:08)
Wow.

Ptara (29:17)
Yeah, right. Yeah.

Erika (29:18)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (29:19)
You have your moment.

Eric (29:19)
Mike Rugione,

TJ Oshie, and now Jack Hughes, right, are engraved in American sports history and in 12 years when Jack's not playing anymore or something, he'll be doing what TJ Oshie was doing. He's going to have so many cool opportunities and speeches and stuff and in 46 years at the Olympics, he'll be there like Mike Rugione was today because he was at the game representing USA. Like Jack will be there. Third time the USA's ever won the gold.

Ptara (29:22)
Jack Hughes.

Yes.

Erika (29:47)
Yeah.

Eric (29:49)
in the Olympics, over a hundred years of Olympics for

Erika (29:49)
Those ghosts aren't gonna haunt him anymore.

Ptara (29:52)
Do you know that he's only 24 years old, his brother was on the team with him. I think he has another brother too that plays. Yeah. And the two younger brothers, they went to college, but Jack just came right out high school and got drafted. Yeah.

Eric (29:57)
Yeah, younger brother too, yeah.

Erika (29:58)
Really? What a family.

Eric (30:07)
Yeah, he's that good. I mean, they're that

good. ⁓ the Kachuk brothers, it's funny, a lot of people were like, the Kachuk brothers, the huge brothers are those quiet ones. like in a neighborhood, the Kachuk brothers are the ones everyone says like stay away from. And the Hughes brothers are the ones you would want to marry your daughter type of type of type of people. Great kids, great kids.

Ptara (30:24)
Yeah. So I will.

Erika (30:24)
Haha.

Ptara (30:28)
The other thing, too. So I'm like I am a big Bruins fan. I will say that. ⁓ And I know like most of the Bruins players. So like Swamen and Charlie McEvoy were on the Olympic team. I really didn't know any of our other players.

Eric (30:41)
Oh yeah, mean that's, that's, that's, I would expect that from a lot of people too. A lot of people probably don't know anyone. Like this is such a big moment for the sport to grow. You don't know anyone besides now you know these names and that's why the TJ Oshie thing in 2014 after the Olympics, if you asked an on a hockey fan to name three hockey players, would typically name Sydney Crosby, know, Alex Ovechkin and TJ Oshie. Big difference in comparison there in 2014, right?

Ptara (30:45)
Yeah, and then like I...

Eric (31:11)
six, seven, but

Ptara (31:11)
Six, seven. Yeah.

Erika (31:11)
It's going in

the jar, you guys. It's going in the jar.

Ptara (31:14)
And I did say, I said after ⁓ regulation, I said, I'd said a little prayer and I was like, Jesus, if we lose this game, please have Brad Marsha and be the one that scores the goal.

Eric (31:26)
Oh,

Erika (31:26)
He was so impressive, I was watching him.

Eric (31:26)
he had a bad game. He had a bad, I don't know. Like he was lucky to be on that team. The, the speed was a little tough for him, I thought. And you know what? He didn't show up in game seven in 2019. He also didn't show up in the gold medal game. Maybe he's a guy who doesn't show up if when there's better skilled players around him. I don't know, Brad, but you, you're no longer a

Ptara (31:28)
He did, I know.

Erika (31:37)
This E.

Ptara (31:41)
Yeah.

Pressure is a privilege.

Erika (31:45)
does he know, Eric?

Eric,

how old is he now?

Eric (31:48)
37.

Ptara (31:49)
That's his number too, isn't it? Oh, wait, who's 37? That's Bergeron. Sorry, my bad.

Erika (31:49)
That's not that old people.

Eric (31:51)
63. Berzeron. Berzeron.

So Jack takes the stick from Sam Can't stand Sam Banette. He also, he didn't make the Canada team. He got lucky because the guy got injured and he got then put on. Jack takes the high stick. Then he gets a penalty for high sticking. But what a shot, like you said. So Barstool Sports now has that on a t-shirt. I need to buy that. Guys, someone go get me that t-shirt. ⁓

Ptara (32:17)
Yes.

Eric (32:19)
Jack Hughes wins it over time. Unreal, super cool that him and his brother had the two overtime winning goals in the elimination game. So three on three was the only way they were going to win that game. And yeah, they got lucky. They made it past the third period. Connor Hellebuck, MVP, ⁓ showed up in a huge moment. They showed up defensively. I think the USA were stronger defensively and in goaltending than Canada. But Canada's top six on forward.

Ptara (32:26)
Yes.

Eric (32:48)
incredible. they all had great games besides Nathan McKinnon, the actor, Ian Belichier, Mr. Wide Open Net.

Erika (32:54)
You

Ptara (32:56)
Yes,

I will say.

Erika (32:59)
You

Ptara (33:01)
Jack Hughes is the hero

Eric (33:06)
Connor Hellebuck.

He's

the Jim Craig, like he had the American flag around him like they my god It was so cool watching the celebration the American flags and ⁓

Ptara (33:17)
Yeah, that guy is

a legend what he did today. I've never seen a goalie the saves with that many shots at him I was just blown away like ⁓ He was

Eric (33:20)
Yeah. Right.

He was in the zone. was in the zone.

celebration. Thoughts.

Ptara (33:30)
Ugh,

I cried because Godreau, his jersey and his kids on the ice. I'm gonna cry again. Two whole tears?

Eric (33:36)
I cried too. I actually had two tears. Like, I was like, I might

Erika (33:37)
their little nuggets, poor thing.

You shed too? ⁓

Eric (33:42)
cry. Well, I was like, I might

cry. And then eventually my eyes watered and they both came down my left cheek. Cause I was...

Erika (33:48)
Everybody, it's OK. Men can cry.

It's fine. Everybody, let it happen.

Ptara (33:50)
Yes, crying crying is good. You got to let it out feel your feelings

Eric (33:53)
I was like,

I don't think I would have cried if I wasn't a dad. So to paint a picture, guys, Johnny Goudreau, one of the best American hockey players, he was killed by a drunk driver two summers ago while riding his bike, going home from a bar with his brother the night before their sister's wedding. And so they got run over by this guy, dead on scene, and...

Ptara (33:57)
Yeah, now there you go.

Erika (33:58)
I

mean, it hits different. Yeah.

Eric (34:22)
Big deal, it's still in court and everything, don't know what's going on. I noticed a lot of people are very cautious of the wording they use. Like the guy who hit them was drunk, but they're not going to say that. Also the Goudreauxs were drinking, but they were riding a bike, so they weren't drinking and driving, right? There was a lot of verbiage they were careful about saying when they talked about the story. But the Goudreaux family was there. The mom and dad, the wife and two kids, they have three, she was pregnant with the third when he died.

and the Kachucks and Larkin and they took this team group photo and then they get up and you see them say, wait, wait, because I'm looking for the jersey. So I thought he was going to go get the Goudreau jersey. Two guys go towards the fans, the stands, the other one, a third guy goes to the bench. He grabs the jersey. Then you see two of the guys, it was Larkin and Kachuck holding the Goudreau kid. So two years old on his birthday and the other one was three. And they kept them for the group photo.

Really was hoping that dad would go out too, but that I shed a tear. What a moment. They've carried that Jersey with them on at the four nations last year, the world championships last year, and now the Olympics. So that's really cool that they did that. Johnny would have been there. He was probably one of the best American, would have been one of the best Americans on that team. If Johnny Hockey was there, there's a chance Matthew Kachuck's not on that team.

Ptara (35:37)
Yeah, 100%. Mr. Hockey, Johnny Hockey.

Erika (35:41)
Mm.

Ptara (35:50)
That is very true. I thought about that today.

Erika (35:50)
really?

Eric (35:52)
I don't think Matthew Kachuck makes the next team. I think his pride might get him there, but he was a no-show for the entire Olympics, whereas brother Brady was... could have been a captain.

Erika (36:03)
How do they really,

like how do they choose who goes on the Olympic team?

Eric (36:07)
Billy Garan was the GM of the U.S. Olympic men's hockey team and he picked the team. Billy Garan used to play for the Boston Bruins. He's from Massachusetts. He's now the GM of the Minnesota Wild. He was the mastermind of that team. One guy I wish I saw was, I wish Patrick Kane was on the team, but I guess Patrick's older now. He is the all-time U.S. NHL foreign player goals leader. Just surpassed Mike Madono this year, so.

Ptara (36:34)
Well, old guys can still be in the Olympics.

Eric (36:37)
old guys can still be in the Olympics because Nick Baumgartner.

Erika (36:38)
Yup.

Ptara (36:39)
Like.

Erika (36:41)
Thank you, Baumgartner.

Let's go. ⁓

Ptara (36:42)
bomb gardener.

That guy is hilarious. I started following him on social media because he like did so many like reels and tick tocks and stuff. And I watched what's it called? Snowboard. Snowcross. Yeah, yeah. So he very cool. And they I watched his interview after his run and the woman was like, is this your last Olympics? And he was like.

Erika (36:47)
Meet

Snowcross, Snowcross. Is that the one with the four people competing to get down the mountain the fastest? That's some cool shit.

Ptara (37:11)
Why? Like, am I injured or something? And she's like, well, you're old. Like, didn't say it that way. But he's like, age is just a number. And he's like, I was racing a 19 year old and I he beat me by a centimeter. And he's like, I'll be here every year if I am able and I will be back. And I was like, oh, my God, I'm like doing the math. I'm like, he's gonna be 48. So one picks. Yeah, so he I love that.

Erika (37:24)
Mm-hmm.

That's a spirit, but hey, if you can still move like that, why not? What do you got to lose?

Ptara (37:37)
But you know, it's funny,

like here, there's people at the, there's 15 year olds at the Olympics and then you got, I don't know who the oldest person was. That would be a cool stat, but he's 44 years old. So, you know, it's like, it's, I love that.

Erika (37:46)
Mm-hmm. Oh my god. It still blows

my mind though how young people actually are. Like you get like 14-year-old gymnast. I know this is like that's summer Olympics, but like they're so young and like 16-year-old snowboarders and the figure skaters are even like 16, like 15, 16. It's insane. Mm-hmm.

Ptara (37:58)
Yeah.

Yeah, speaking of the figure skaters,

is it Alyssa Lu?

Eric (38:07)
Well, real

quick, the oldest Olympian was 54 years old. It was a US curler, Rich Rujon, or whatever.

Ptara (38:13)
Oh, come on,

listen, curling, could be 90 and still be on the team.

Erika (38:16)
I'm sorry I-

Eric (38:17)
Yeah. But can you believe it? They actually cheat in curling. Canada cheated and they got caught. But I think they got caught just like not by the officials. Must have been Canadian referees again. But the world knows you cheated.

Erika (38:19)
Right?

Ptara (38:19)
I mean.

I know. Of course they did.

Erika (38:25)
Here's my hot take. Yep.

Ptara (38:33)
Yeah,

yeah.

Erika (38:34)
My hot take for the Winter Olympics, ⁓ curling is the most fucking boring sport. I just could not with curling. So my hot take. Yeah, you guys have your own opinions, but I just couldn't.

Ptara (38:44)
Yeah.

I

I tried, sat there and I was like, yeah, yeah, and I'm like, what the fuck, I'm like rooting for a brick to hit another brick. And then I was like, I can't.

Erika (38:51)
Just sweep it sweep

Eric (38:55)
So

I got to go curling last year when I went to Sweden. They took us curling. Did you know you wear two different shoes? One sticks to the ice and the other one slides. Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Ptara (39:05)
Yes. Yeah, because you like push off, right? Like when you

Erika (39:05)

Ptara (39:09)
are setting, I don't even know the terms.

Eric (39:11)
Right, so basically

Erika (39:11)
You do

have to do a deep lunge, you guys. That's a pretty deep lunge. you can do curling up in Plymouth now at the new arena up there, because Peter and Ashley do it. Plymouth.

Eric (39:12)
if

Yeah. It was hard.

Ptara (39:15)
Yeah.

Yeah, I bet.

Eric (39:21)
Yeah. yeah.

Ptara (39:25)
They get a

Eric (39:25)
Yeah.

Ptara (39:26)
curling rink down in Nashua at Nashua Country Club.

Erika (39:29)
How did I not know that? All right. We're going curling, you guys.

Eric (39:29)
cool. Erica's own city.

Ptara (39:30)
Yeah. I don't think you have to be a member.

Eric (39:33)
She doesn't even know it.

Ptara (39:34)
I know.

Erika (39:36)
country club you said that word and I'm like that's not not my type

Eric (39:38)
⁓ figure skaters, you mentioned

figure skaters.

Ptara (39:41)
Yes, Alyssa Liu. So she, American, brought home the gold, but I looked her up and she turned pro, I think, when she was 14. She retired when she was 16. And then she came back when she was 20. no, no, no. When she was, yeah, she's 20 now. So I think two years ago she came out of retirement. But like, how wild is that? Like you turn pro as a teenager.

Erika (40:00)
She's 20 now. She's 20 right now. Yeah.

Ptara (40:10)
And then you're like, I'm done. I want to know more about that story. I wonder why. I bet like there was a lot of pressure and stuff. And then she comes back 20 years old and like dominates. don't think a US, well, no, one US woman has won a gold in figure skating, but she's the first in like a lot of years. So it was pretty cool. Yeah. I got to look up those, that stat.

Erika (40:10)

Mm-hmm.

That's impressive.

Yeah, go for it.

Eric (40:34)
So,

USA won a total of 33 medals, 12 were gold, that's the most gold ever for the Winter Olympics in the US, 12 silver and 9 bronze. Figure skating, they got two golds and one silver. So, Alessalu and the United States mixed team. Wasn't there also, like, didn't the French officials cheat in figure skating judging? Like, they purposely, I forget, it must not be mixed, but...

Erika (40:42)
Very nice.

Ptara (40:58)
Yeah.

Eric (41:04)
They purposely scored a US ⁓ skater much lower so the French skater could win. And like when you have all the scores, everyone gave the US skater nines in this French team, two days in a row gave them like sixes.

Erika (41:13)
That is so dirty.

Ptara (41:14)
Yeah.

Erika (41:19)
Mm-hmm.

Ptara (41:22)
Yes, I heard that story.

Erika (41:24)
That's dirty.

Eric (41:24)
Yeah.

Alpine skiing. The US has two golds, one silver, one bronze. So, hate it for Lindsey Vonn.

Erika (41:31)
Michaela Schifrin, I watch

her. ⁓ God, I've been following her and seeing her journey. She finally just got to go home from just being in an Italian hospital and her poor leg is in a thousand pieces. She's been through so many surgeries. Holy shit.

Ptara (41:35)
Ugh.

Eric (41:45)
I know. It's going to be a great documentary. The

comeback's going to be a great doc.

Ptara (41:50)
But

you want to know what the worst part is? ⁓ Her dog died like two days after her surgery. Yeah. And I'm like somebody who like when you're going through an injury like that, like you need your animals because you're literally bedridden. like, yeah. And I just like she posted it I would just I cried because I was like, my God, timing like terrible. Yeah.

Eric (41:55)
Yeah.

Erika (41:56)
No-

Eric (41:59)
day after.

Erika (41:59)
god.

Mm-hmm. Emotional support.

That's heartbreaking. Awful.

Poor thing. Sure. I watched that. Beautiful.

Eric (42:15)
I want to shout out a couple names here. Michaela Schifrin wins gold Olympic, solemn skiing, one of the best.

How cool of a name is this? Breezy Johnson. Breezy winning the gold. In speed skating, Jordan Sulz wins the 500 and the 1000 meter for the gold. Bob Sled, the USA won gold in the women's monobob.

Ptara (42:25)
Yes, Breezy!

Erika (42:26)
Breezy. Nice.

Mmm.

Ptara (42:36)
Nice. yes.

Erika (42:41)
Dude, bobsled is so crazy. I was watching some, I think it was maybe like run two for like the four man bobsled or bobsleigh. Is it bobsleigh or bobsled now? It might've changed, but yeah. But there were a couple ⁓ of teams that actually like tipped over and you just see them like it's very cool runnings, like scary. It's super scary. Well, Brandon was fast forwarding. He's like, yeah, somebody crashed and.

Eric (42:51)
Bob- ⁓ it is Bob Slay.

Ptara (42:53)
Bob, so yeah, they changed it.

Eric (42:55)
Bob Slays.

Ptara (42:58)
yeah.

Yeah, feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme.

Erika (43:09)
Literally, Jamaica went right before this other team that like crashed and you just can't stop the sled and they're all like bopping their heads on the side of the thing and I was like, my God, but you know that if they're showing it, nobody got hurt because obviously they can't show that and it's rough and but I think France crashed and there was another team, ⁓ but I can't recall which one, but that's some intense stuff. Did you guys also see?

Ptara (43:12)

Mmm.

Erika (43:34)
You know how people just throw around the idea like, ⁓ they should throw a regular guy into like the sport and just see how they would fare. I know, right? Well, the funny thing is, no, no, no. But they had ⁓ Colin Jost, he was on SNL and he was doing some commentating and they're like, hey, let's go do a run.

Eric (43:41)
It can throw you and me I'll do two-person bobsled. I am NOT doing the two-person luge I would I think I would do the skeleton

Ptara (43:41)
They're like, Doug from accounting, you're up next.

The Skeleton.

Eric (43:55)
It's funny.

Erika (43:59)
and you don't realize how many Gs that thing pulls. They were doing like five Gs and Colin Jost is of course, he's mic'd up, he's got cameras on him and he's just like screeching like a little girl. But that just goes to show how scary this is. And I don't understand how these people are just like, hey, this is cool. I guess they're used to it. It's just second nature at this point, but whew, that's a little too intense for me.

Ptara (44:13)
Mm.

Right. Yeah, I could not do that.

Eric (44:24)
Well, real quick, I want to shout out the Americans who won gold. So I mentioned a few earlier freestyle skiing. got three golds. We got Alex Ferreira, men's halfpipe. The United States won in the mixed aerials team and Elizabeth LeMay won the women's moguls. And speaking of moguls, did you see like those dual moguls where you face off against someone? One guy goes, they're going so fast. One guy goes off course. The other guy loses balance, does the jump. Weird 360 upside down.

Erika (44:27)
Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

Eric (44:52)
obviously wasn't planned, lands it backwards and crosses the finish line backwards and wins.

Ptara (44:58)
Yes.

Erika (44:58)
So impressive. I would have been like, nope, I'm out.

Eric (45:00)

I mentioned speed skating. had two goals there. Alpine skiing. had two goals. Breezy Johnson and Michaela Schiffrin. Figure skating. Alyssa Liu and the United States mixed team. ⁓ Bob sled. We did win. I said the mono, the mono Bob. And then cross country skiing. We only got silvers. Ice hockey, the two golds. And those are all the golds.

Erika (45:09)
Mm-hmm.

Eric (45:24)
We got a silver and a bronze in snowboarding, a silver in curling, the first ever American medal in curling, and a bronze in luge in short track. So a total of 33 medals, 12 gold, 12 silver, nine bronze, second most, but what country had more medals than us? Boom, nice.

Erika (45:39)
Not too shabby, USA.

Ptara (45:44)
Norway.

Erika (45:46)
I was going to say Sweden. I don't know. I knew it wasn't going to be us.

Eric (45:50)
Sweden finished 10th in

the medal count with 18.

Ptara (45:51)
What the heck does Norway do

good? Are they like good at skiing and shooting shit? Those Norwegians?

Eric (45:56)
Well, Cross Country Skiing,

⁓ yep, they won seven golds in Cross Country Skiing, three in biathlon. I sent you a biathlon video. Did you see the biathlon video I sent you, the last three finishers?

Ptara (46:00)
⁓ yeah. See? Yes.

Erika (46:00)
Wow.

Yeah. DFL.

Ptara (46:08)
Yes.

Erika (46:08)
DFL.

Eric (46:11)
These guys stop

with like a hundred meters to go and they put on a show for the fans and they did like a they all sprinted for the line. That was great.

Erika (46:15)
man.

Ptara (46:15)
Print off.

Erika (46:19)
I love that. I

Ptara (46:21)
Yep.

Erika (46:23)
love that.

Ptara (46:23)
Also in cross-country skiing by Athalon, there was a dog that made an appearance, like literally came onto the track and was sprinting and he crossed the finish line too. I was like, what a good boy. Give him a medal.

Erika (46:34)
Amazing, right?

It was a wolf dog, right? Imagine seeing that. I'd be like, what is happening? I mean, yes, definitely. I couldn't find a video, because once you mentioned the dog, was like, I swear to God, I saw there was a mountain goat on one of the ski courses, too.

Ptara (46:38)
Yeah.

That will make me go faster. I'm like, shit. Right?

There was a squirrel

in the snowboarding. Did you see that one? Yeah, it was a squirrel. Yeah, like just missed the rider just missed the squirrel by the edge of the board. could you imagine?

Erika (46:56)
Really? I don't think I saw the score.

Eric (46:58)
I saw that.

Erika (47:03)
Oh my god, can you imagine? I would have like,

I cry when I hit one with a car. I would be like...

Ptara (47:10)
Not only that, but could

you imagine you train for three, four years to go and you have your run and you freaking get taken out by a squirrel? I'd be like, all right, I'm out. I tried.

Erika (47:15)
even worse. Of all things, right?

⁓ man, how rough.

Eric (47:25)
Well that was fun. Of all our notes, we've covered everything but one topic and I think this is Tara's favorite. She's the one who mentioned it in the group chat and said don't forget about this and then sent us the memes and everything. Condoms are a big deal in the Olympics and they were not enough.

Erika (47:27)
Mm.

Ptara (47:42)
It happened in the Summer Olympics too! No, very! I mean, at least they're being safe.

Erika (47:43)
There are never enough. That's all you do. You hook up.

Eric (47:44)
Yeah. These athletes are horny.

Erika (47:49)
They're safe,

yes.

Eric (47:51)
Yes. Well, but they could... Maybe they're not though. There's not enough. Yeah. Is somebody taking all the condoms and like selling them as souvenirs or something?

Ptara (47:56)
Well if they ran out, there's a couple people raw dogging it.

Erika (48:01)
They're hoarding those. Actually,

that's probably what they're doing because, yeah.

Ptara (48:04)
That's the only, some of them aren't getting medals, so

they're bringing back Olympic condoms. That's all they have.

Eric (48:10)
Someone's taking

Erika (48:10)
Somebody check eBay right now

Eric (48:12)
a bunch thinking I'm gonna have a freaking amazing weekend in there like probably get nothing

Erika (48:17)
Honestly, looking this up to see if you can find Olympic condoms on eBay. think that's hysterical.

Ptara (48:22)
But look at Hillary Knight,

she met her fiance at the Olympics. So there's definitely, they don't need now. I mean, not when scissoring, ⁓ but you definitely, there people hooking up, okay? So.

Eric (48:26)
Yeah, but she didn't need a condom.

Erika (48:35)
When else are you gonna meet people from like all over the world? Like that is like, I don't know, it's better than Tinder.

Ptara (48:38)
Right. And I feel like if you're that good of an athlete,

you kind of want to date somebody that's an athlete, too, because they know your lifestyle. Yeah. And then, yeah.

Erika (48:45)
They're at your level. Yes. Yes.

Eric (48:45)
Well, you want to make more amazing Olympians and grow the bloodline. But

do these athletes though, like some of them win their gold medal the first two, three days. Do they spend the whole two weeks there just, you know, horn dogging around?

Ptara (48:55)
Yeah. They're just banging, banging everybody. Why not?

Erika (49:00)

Ptara (49:01)
You just walk around with your metal. This is a flex. we can buy the condoms. ⁓

Erika (49:02)
you guys. Well, they have the Paris 2024 ones. I haven't found the Winter Olympic ones yet, but.

Ptara (49:08)
⁓ do condoms

Eric (49:10)
Well,

your algorithm is going to be interesting the next day or two.

Ptara (49:10)
expire?

Erika (49:13)
No,

it's eBay. It's oh, God, it's listening. Yeah. But all right. Guess how much it goes. do. I think so. But I think so. I thought they did. But at least you have to keep them at a certain temperature range. Don't don't put them in your wallet. Don't put them in your wallet. That's not supposed to do it. But yes. But guess how much like the Paris 2024 Olympic condoms go for. You know what?

Ptara (49:15)
It's gonna know. But wait, serious question. Do condoms expire?

Eric (49:15)
know! It's gonna try to sell you more condoms! Pleasure for her. Ripped for

for him.

Ptara (49:23)
They do? Oh, okay.

Gotcha.

Eric (49:32)
Check the expiration date on those too.

Ptara (49:39)
How many are there? A package?

Erika (49:42)
I think it just shows like one, but they all have different like, different things on it. Eric, do you have a guess? Yeah. One.

Ptara (49:46)
One condom, I'm gonna go $25.

Eric (49:52)
⁓ 67. For a pack of three.

Erika (49:55)
I found $125,

Ptara (49:56)
69!

Erika (50:00)
the one that I clicked on. But for one, for one, yeah, mint condition. It better be. Would you buy a used one? Like it says mint condition. Are you freaking serious? Like, I can't with that. So I can anticipate we'll find the Winter Olympic ones on here soon. How funny is that? Oh, man.

Ptara (50:01)
For one condom?

Eric (50:01)
For how many? one?

Ptara (50:04)
Is it reusable?

Eric (50:06)
Well, I went because I was closest.

Ptara (50:10)
Gently used.

Eric (50:17)
refurbished.

Ptara (50:21)
my god.

Comes with DNA.

Erika (50:23)
Horny people,

horny athletes. Yes. It's a lot of fun.

Eric (50:26)
Ladies, thank you for jumping on this emergency pod with me. I'm still in my snow

Ptara (50:31)
Absolutely.

Eric (50:32)
pants from skiing today. was fun. This was fun. I woke up, watched the game. I was really, I wasn't that nervous like I would have been for Bruins game like that ages me. This one, I was like, this would be great. And I think back to hockey real quick. I think this is huge.

Erika (50:34)
Nice.

Ptara (50:43)
Ugh, I was.

Erika (50:46)
Mm.

Taki

Eric (50:51)
for

hockey in the United States. Men's and women's, the game is going to grow even more. It's probably going to get a lot more expensive too. Or maybe they make it affordable, but this is huge. This is huge for this country, for this sport. It's incredible. So I love that the NHL does this and I love that the IOC and they work together and they made it happen the first time in 12 years since the NHL has been in the Olympics. So they were there in 98 in Nagano, 2002 in Salt Lake.

Ptara (50:53)
for the United States.

Erika (50:57)
Good. Crap. They're not. I'm never going to go to a game.

Beautiful.

Eric (51:21)
2006 in Italy and then 2010 in Vancouver, that was a big one, and then 14 in Sochi. But then they took off China and they didn't go during COVID because it's like, nope, COVID. But now they're back. ⁓

Erika (51:33)

Ptara (51:33)
Right? Yeah.

Erika (51:35)
They're back, baby.

Ptara (51:35)
This was this was a very big win, I think, for the USA in general. Like we needed this. We had this one day today as a country to just be USA. And it was great.

Eric (51:46)
And if you remember the 1980 Olympics, like things were not great in the USA then. That was the cold war, right? And, and that brought the country together. And even for a day, like just hearing, being able to hear an American athlete say how proud he is to be an American. That was cool. And I think some other athletes have trouble saying that or people might be like, how could you say that? But no, it was a great day. ⁓ no matter where you side, you bring the country, like sports,

Ptara (51:53)
Right.

Yeah.

Yes, Jack Hughes.

They do.

Eric (52:16)
bring us together. That's what's amazing about sports.

Ptara (52:18)
Yeah. We're very

lucky that we live where we live. I will say that. Like, I'm not we don't get into politics here and I never would. But that's what this is about. You're representing your country. Like, it doesn't matter where we are politically. Like, this is your country. And there's a lot of people that would give to be in those people's skates or skis or boards or whatever. And just be proud. And I loved that Jack Hughes. He was like, USA for my country. I'm doing this for us. And I just felt I was like, yeah, like I was so proud.

Eric (52:43)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Such a cool, such a cool moment. was, was, honestly my favorite part was just watching the experience of everyone in arms during the national anthem with the American flag over their shoulders. I was like, that's cool. That's cool. I wasn't expecting that when we won until I saw it. was like, wow, this is what our parents experienced in 1980. So cool. Well, maybe you did, Tara, because you're old, but you know, as Adeline said.

Ptara (53:00)
Very.

Right, we weren't even alive.

Erika (53:12)
She wasn't...

Eric (53:13)
Adeline says you're old, you're a dinosaur.

Ptara (53:13)
I was not born yet, thank you. This is all of us are experiencing our first gold medal in men's ice hockey.

Erika (53:17)
You

Eric (53:21)
Yeah.

Erika (53:22)
There we go.

Eric (53:22)
Yeah. Super. And women's. Well, no, we've seen gold before in women's, but yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go women. The women, I'll tell you this, Canada is still the top of Ben's hockey. They dominated that game, but you know, the USA fought and had grit and they pulled it off. Women's hockey, USA, they have taken over. They are number one. Yes. And it's, it's for years to come.

Ptara (53:25)
Now, yes, women, we got this. Yes.

Erika (53:28)
but another one couldn't hurt.

Ptara (53:45)
Domination. Complete.

It's so awesome.

Eric (53:49)
Like they have

absolutely taken over, so way to go girls.

Ptara (53:53)
Yeah, girls who run the world.

Erika (53:56)
forward to go into a game because I feel like that will be a little more affordable than a boss in game. So let's all go. Yeah.

Eric (54:00)
I'll take Adeline too. That would be fun.

Ptara (54:00)
Yeah, yeah, let's go. We'll

Eric (54:04)
Let's

Ptara (54:04)
do it.

Eric (54:04)
do it. Guys, we're all going to go to a Boston Fleet game. They play in law at the Songis Arena. That will be a lot of fun.

Erika (54:08)
I mean, if I can't go to a Raiders

game, I gotta go to the fleet.

Eric (54:13)
We're going to do it on the runs hockey night. Let's do it. But that was a lot of fun emergency podcasts under an hour. Erica, take us home.

Erika (54:14)
Let's go. Yes.

Ptara (54:16)
Yes!

Woo!

Erika (54:26)
Team USA, congratulations. You guys are amazing. And thank you guys for sticking with us and listening as always. You know we love you.

Ptara (54:36)
Never trust a fart.

Eric (54:37)
Don't fear the code brown!

Erika (54:39)
and don't forget to stretch.

Eric (54:42)
Play Freebird!

⁓ Kendall. I can't say her last name. C-O-Y-N-E. it's Kendall O'Coin. Kendall Coin?

Ptara (55:39)
Coin?

Erika (55:39)
coin.

Ptara (55:43)
It sounds like C-O-Y-N-E.

Erika (55:44)
C-O-Y-N-E,

Eric (55:45)
I feel like

Erika (55:45)
coin.

Eric (55:46)
she pronounced it differently. All right, let me do this one.

Ptara (55:47)
What were you gonna say? I'm so curious. Ko-yai-nee?

Erika (55:52)
I'm pretty sure I heard it say it like, announce this coin.
