Don't Fear The Code Brown and Don't Forget To Stretch!

Eric (00:55)
What's up everybody and welcome to a very special edition live episode of the On The Runs podcast coming to you from the Cheap Marathon. The marathon winner just crossed the line and we are very lucky right now to get two amazing people first to kick us off. Oh, where are they? I want to see them. Before I do that, I actually have to introduce my co-host today because I don't have the typical kick-ass Rockstar host six-star.

I have a dinosaur, Pteroterodactyl. What's up? Hey, how's it going? Oh, I thought you were just saying she's old. That too. He accused me of being born in the 70s the other day. I was like, whoa, one more decade up. I'm not that old yet. But we have Jamie, heard his voice, then we have Kayla and it's Jamie's the veteran.

Hey, let's the rookie here. It was your first millennium announcing or announcing ever. No, no, first millennium. First millennium announcing because I do a lot for, uh, Harvard Marathon events. It was my first time working with Jamie and, I think he hates me. Well, we've been announcing since 7 30. We were both supposed to be.

doing it together and this these are the first words I'm getting to say on a microphone all day. You know, it's true. I'm could hear, but you were having fun. You were interacting with the crowd. We were, instant chemistry, you were going back and forth. We had a blast. Kayla is fun. You are. fun. You guys sounded great. I love, like you don't just jib jab at each other, but you kind of jib jab with the people in the crowd. And I don't know if this person thought it was a jib jab, but we had a runner from Wisconsin.

And you are all of sudden right into the Wisconsin I was trying to say, you betcha, but I wasn't very good at it. I was going to say it was a poor accent, but an accent nonetheless. You got to give me credit for trying. how long have you been announcing these races? Because you have ships. It's a long day. Andy, if you can hear him, he's talking right now. But you just got off your ship, started at 730. How long have you been doing this? I've been doing it since they started the company. So really like 2011, something like that.

and i go back i go back to you know from my old job at w m your covering the millennium mile back to nineteen ninety nine two thousand sample way back with this company john before that i only knew him when uh... so i worked in west virginia to get my career started i don't to talk about it but uh... i came back in ninety eight no i'm not actually loved it down there but when i came back in ninety eight john mortimer with uh... was just getting the millennium

mile going a couple years later. That's where I really met him for the first time. Now, I know we talked two years ago on the pod, but you're not from West Virginia. You're from here. I'm from Windham. This town that we're sitting in. I used to ride the bus over this ground we're sitting on right now. this ground here or was this? No, this was a road. And then they redid everything. But literally, yeah, right through here. You never had this rail trail growing up? No, we didn't. It used to be a cool jump when you'd come home up the hill.

in our car, if you gained a lot of speed, get some serious air going over the tracks. I did that. not like that anymore. For 29 days after I got my license until I crashed on one of those jumps. You know what I'm talking about. But I grew up like two miles from right here. OK, question. Is it Windham or Wynham? Wynham. It's in our town charter, people.

It's Windham. Everybody says it's both ways and I'm like, way is it? The old timers like me say Windham. The newbies say Windham. I think I say Windham. But enough about me. Kayla's here and she's the star. It was her first race. Listen, how did this happen? Because you live in Connecticut. Yeah. Like, when did you leave? ⁓ so I actually left...

and ⁓

Perfect timing. This is not going to be one and done though. ⁓ I hope not. I mean, I hope Jamie is able to like talk him a little bit more. ⁓ if I have it my way, this will not even be the only Millennium Running race that I do. So. All right. Yeah. What prep went into today? Like you've never worked together. No, we memorized every runner and their names. When was the first time you ever spoke to each other?

about five six forty five a m i think i thought i thought i am jimmy on kate like how is it going to work out with a nurse for you like who's this rookie were you like oh my god here's his veteran i had no no nerves at all you just

instantly knew right away she was going to be great. She's got a great great personality. I going to you guys have really like similar outgoing personalities and I think that that probably helps a lot too. It's fun because it's not one of those things where you know you just banter off of one another but we were able to immediately poke fun which just breaks so much ice. That is awesome.

immediately dive into being like, all right, we're best friends. This is going to work out forever. Yeah, was fun. I hope that she gets to do a lot of races. Yeah. You guys sounded great. Aw, thanks. Thanks, Tara. When are we going to hear you again next? You mean here at a Millennium Race? You're it. You're it. Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo. Oh. You're in almost every race. I get a month off, so that's good. And you're still doing Easter Seals. I'm full time at Easter Seals in fundraising. Easter Seals New Hampshire. And I still anchor sports at WMUR once in a while. So I do miss you.

Because

I was the only one who covered the Sanis golf team. Because I work in philanthropy now, I have to hold down three jobs. ⁓

Boston Marathon's coming up. Yeah. I think it's Anna from WNBR running. Alana Flood. Alana Flood. Yeah, she's fantastic. And she's running for Special Olympics New Hampshire. Did she reach out to you for advice? ⁓ I've been talking to her a lot. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think she took any of it, but which is smart. I ran six straight right after the Boston bombing. OK. And then I just wasn't very good at it. So I stopped after six.

I don't know, took up pickleball. And you raised, how much money did you raise for Special Olympics? I don't know, to be honest. Every year it was like 25 or so. That's amazing. Yeah, it was good. And they're a great organization. no big deal. I've never met someone who's so self-deprecating, but then also is like, I've raised so much money. It's over $100,000. Yeah, it's just no big deal. But I'm not a great runner. And you still fund raising money with Easter Seals. Right, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. Well, if you had to look in the mirror and see this every day, too, you'd be.

Jamie, you'd be humble. I have to look in the mirror and look at me every day. He does have a great set of hair. He does. for radio. Two guys came by and started the race without a shirt on this morning. I said to Kayla, I'm like,

I don't even like to take the shirt off and look at myself. I'm not going to let everybody else look at me. And he say things like that at the start line. I actually had someone who came out Ben who was like, I really like your hair. And someone's like, you're awesome. I go, both of those were to her. Yeah. I go, I'm not going to let this go to my head or anything because bragging is not really my style, but ⁓ I feel like this is going to be such a great morning. Yes. Well, it already is. It is. mean, everything works on the first time I set it up. I want to talk to you real quick about Tokyo, Disney and traveling, but I have one final question for Jamie.

Jamie.

Last week we had Jamie Whittaker, not Jamie Whittaker. had Jordan Whittaker on the podcast. You know, Jordan, and she had this fun story about walking down in Boston marathon on Saturday before everything, doing the expo and you caught her and got her to do TV. she was like, I'm about to go to bed. have my hair down and the glasses on and I'm really good at creeping and Googling stuff. found the video clip and we played it. she's like,

I loved it. I thought it was perfect. go, Jamie found you at the absolute right time. You were relaxed. You were comfortable. And she's like, I'm not camera ready. And I thought of it because we talked about faces for radio. Jordan, the public school education teacher, our elementary school from Manchester, West Side. She's awesome. She raises a lot of money for charity. Raising for Team She's running again this year, running this year for Team IANEER. daughter was very involved with Massachusetts IANEER. So now she's running for that.

The organization the hospital that did a lot for her daughter raising money for a great cause that's meaningful to her That's huge when you pick a charity that you have a tie to Before you get to Kayla, how many followers do you have now with this podcast because it's awesome. Well, not enough It's amazing watching it grow it continues to crime. So we're at like 2,600 maybe that's fantastic my goal this year

It's like I always say, we're a small podcast with a small following that put on a top notch game, a dirty mo media type of game. That's Jr.'s company. Couldn't agree more. And so if we keep putting out the big game and giving the opportunities, that's six degrees that Kevin Bain got in us. You're going to be interviewing Meb Kuplezgye at the Boston Marathon, the nicest guy in the world. So that's going to raise your profile even more, well deserved. What people don't know, because this is Saturday before Easter,

And this comes out Thursday and everyone listening, if you haven't heard, go back to the last episode on Tuesday where we actually had Mev on the podcast. Yeah. awesome. How'd that go? That was incredible. I want to listen to that. One hour. Yeah. In fact, I think we went over. It was just, he was so gracious with his time. He understood the assignment. wore a Boston hoodie. spared no details. We talked.

little bit about like his first marathon and then go into the Olympics and then we went right into Boston everything from 2013 to post-race how he'll never buy a beer in that city again. he should not. Well congratulations on your upward trajectory. Thank you and you send me the emails and stuff I love it thanks so much for your support you're mad. Kayla, you travel in the world. I am. Tokyo. Then you went to Disney World. I did.

And now you're in New Hampshire. Probably made a pitch stop in Hartford. Yeah, you know it. Why were you working at Disney World? So I actually wasn't working at Disney You just making it real. I was just making it real. So my girlfriends and I are like annual pass holders because we're psychotic like that as Connecticut, like, ⁓ you know, Connecticut.

She's the perfect girl except she's a Habs fan, ⁓ Habs? How did that happen? I don't know. My family's from Montreal. Okay, well that makes sense. I love Disney, she loves Disney, we love running I just tell you that my brother-in-law who lives here in Winn-Him

is the director of player development for the Montreal Canadiens. We have a little connection there. Well, you know, I always said I want to go to a Habs Bruins game and I want to go with her and now we have a connection. Now you can get tickets through me. But you're coming. I love this. All of my relationships are really escalating today. This is so exciting for me. But no, so I was in Disney just because we like to go down for like 30 hours, 45 hours at a time. But while we were down, we actually signed up for the Dopey Challenge the week before. So I am going down in January to run the

10k happen fall over the course of those four days. So I'm really excited about that. But I did. just got back from Tokyo and that was unbelievable. I don't know how much you know about it, but have you run in Tokyo before? No, not yet. OK, so it is the quietest race ever. The most noise I heard was from the shoes of the people around me. Really? Yeah, there would be like three or four people deep as spectators with either golf claps or no claps at all. No signage, no nothing. The culture is just so different. And I thought

that

I would just want to have headphones in the whole time and I embraced every second of it. It was incredible and so different and one of the best marathons I've done. It's very clean there right? They're very like you can't no littering like even I'd said something about like if you're walking a dog your dog can't even go to the bathroom. So they can you have to you have to whatever trash you bring in bring out same goes for the race so actually if you are caught littering at all during the race I was throwing a gel packet down onto the ground you could get pulled off the course and disqualified like they

they

are that strict about it. But fortunately they have volunteers and trash bags everywhere. So that made it really convenient. But I realized very quickly that I have no idea how far a kilometer actually is. Because I sat there and I would be like, I'd be running and I would see kilometer 36 here and on the other side of the street for the hairpin turn I'd see 37. And I was like, oh, this is just right around the corner here. And like half a mile later I'm like, where the hell is this?

turn because I just thought that it was like maybe one lap around the track. It is much further than that. Did you master the Tokyo U-turn? You know what? I saw people do it and for me was unnecessary for the speed that I was going. I did not need that forward trajectory. ⁓ But it is a real thing. It's a real thing. You got anything for Jamie and Kayla? ⁓ No, you guys are great. I've met Jamie years ago. I don't know. I think we connected because

at

the WMRS. connected me with you! Oh my god, at this! And, so this is the funniest thing, you haven't heard this story, but I gave them Jamie and they had the interview and Eric, I was like, how'd it go? Because I love Jamie and I'm like, he's got to have so many amazing stories. keeps on giving. And he's like, oh it was awful. And they're like, the worst interview. Oh that's right! There was nothing, like it was awkward silence and I'm reading this and I'm like, what?

That's right. I was so sad and I was like, Oh my God, I that was going to be a whole run. And then they were like, just kidding. And I was like, you guys, course it was a phenomenal interview. He suggested it and I'm like, I got it. It was one of my favorites. In fact, when I have a non-running friend say to me like, I don't listen to your podcast, but if I were to listen to one, which one? I go, you should listen to Jamie because you're going to appreciate that one a little more. And you go, the stories you had, not just about these got Boston guys, the stories you had about the Red Sox and the

and Dale Earnhardt of all them too so it was incredible yeah yeah yeah here we go Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt senior. He used to try to elude me but and everybody else but we knew how to get them. These ⁓ I want to come back because these microphones are

They make me sound like Barry White. We got to get it together, baby. It was good. It can come on. This is good stuff. I will even help you do your own if you want to do one one day. Final thoughts. Let's talk a little bit more cheap. Just the energy today. Talk a little about the energy. mean, not just the two of you. You got John in the middle sending everyone off. And then you're going back and forth with Andy, who's at the finish line, the crowd on the winner who's coming. We've got to find that guy, by the way. And then also the start. What do you think about the start?

really cool start. learned all about the history of her head starting during COVID as a way just to make sure it was one of the safest races out there. But it was so exciting because even for the marathon, we were sending people off every seven seconds. And gosh, I didn't even realize how fast seven seconds was. Sometimes we were just missing people. was really fast. was chaotic. We do a lot of things in New Hampshire better than anybody else. We pick a president better. We stay away from income tax better. There's just a lot of things we do, number one. And Millennium running,

I truly believe is the class of running companies for all of America. They spare no expense in making it the best possible experience.

that they can for the runners. It's it's first to be part of it. I can't wait. Like they go to Florida now and they can go further if they want. I was talking to somebody yesterday about it. Like they really could. They could do the Boston Marathon if that ever came up. Yeah. 100%. That's how they do it. it's interesting because John is really funny because I think a lot of race directors like to just kind of sit in the background and make sure that things are going. so involved. He was at the start line hyping people up, doing lots of, you know, high fives, like growls. I feel like he was all over the

He's been here since like 3 a.m. Probably. But not only that, he'll be the last one here cleaning up. Yes he will. He's so He leads by example. He's really good at what he does and his races are the best and proof of that is all the people that come up from Boston and all over Massachusetts to be part of

New Hampshire races. We saw so many people from all over Wisconsin. Yeah, there's from 37 states here. Wow. Impressive. Impressive. I have to say too, I'm trying to do a half marathon in all 50 states. Cool. And I've been, I think I've got 14 now. Wow. Millennium is still the number one company. So I've traveled all over and nobody does it better than Amazing. Love Love that. It's awesome. This will be like here. Where are you going to be next, Kayla? So actually, I think the next time you'll all see me is going to be Boston's Run to Remember. I hope so. Yeah, because Jamie's going to be announcing. I'm going to be running.

running.

So I'm going bother him now that we're best friends and then I'm going come see you guys afterwards. you doing the half or the five? I'm to do the half. Half. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Our hope is to be at the expo and record from the expo. I have a little problem where we actually had a camping trip scheduled, but I think I might drive three hours down to Boston to do a couple hours of a show and then drive back. My hero. That would be funny. I it's just, I love this. I have to love it.

It's just so much fun. So I won't be there for the race. OK. But I will very likely be there Saturday at the Expo doing this. OK. I can't wait. All right. You said Spare No Expense. What movie is that from? Oh my gosh. Show me the money. it from? Spare No Expense, 1994. From her time. Because she's a dinosaur. does that even mean? Because she's a dinosaur. 94. was 11 in 94. Jurassic Park. Oh, OK.

The old man spared no expense. thought you were gonna go with...

Jerry McGuire is what I was going for. Show me the money! Show me the money! Well, this was fun. Thank you for coming by, Jamie. You're so important for us and played a big role. You don't even know how big of a role played. And Kayla, I love this friendship we have. the little rivalry. Oh my gosh. Bruins and Habs. You want to know what's really funny? I know that you're trying to push me away and get me out of here, and I totally can appreciate that. She married a Bruins fan, though. Diehard Bruins fan. Big shout out. He actually says hello. was like, make sure you my friends I Are you a faster runner than him? Yes.

Oh, the husband? No, he's fast. He's 305, was his last marathon. I was going to say, the amount of people that I had come up to me after our podcast and say, you know, technicalities with Connecticut, you know, not being a, you know, New England I had a friend who looked it up and sent it to me. And there's a, there's a really good quote that's like, in terms of geography in New England, in

in

of personality, they're out. So I was like, man, I know who's going to love that. Absolutely. Jane, it's an ongoing thing here that I always say, New England's not a part. Connecticut's not really part of New England. Is that right? Yeah, they're little split. They're really New Yorkers. The ones that root for the Red Sox, we'll take them. We'll take them. I'm going to steal a sticker as I leave here. I was at opening the extra magnet, too, I've already taken them. I've already put some in my pocket. I was like, I need this. His name is Stooley. And one day, we'll have a Mrs. god, that is disgusting.

That's the right response. Guys, this is so much fun. Jamie and Kayla on the On the Runs podcast just finished up their announcing. They called everyone who started the race. And now Andy is working the finish line. Guys, go and enjoy a great drink, get a banana, get something, enjoy the day. It's beautiful. Happy Easter. Happy Easter. Love On the Runs. Keep it going. Thank you, guys. Have fun.

Eric (20:17)
All right, we're back from the cheap marathon. got Terra Teradoku with me and we got Sam who just ran. Sam is from group one, so I think he's fast. He's number 89. Sam, how you doing? Where you from?

doing great. Thanks for having me on. I'm from New York City. ⁓ New York City. you? Why'd you come here? Was this because it's a fast marathon or chasing the BQ? Yeah, yeah, it's a fast marathon. I like the two by two start. I ran with a friend and super awesome experience. Was it your shirtless friend over there? He looked like he was hurting. Yeah, he was. He's a Navy SEAL though, so he'll be OK. Where in New York City are you? Manhattan. OK, my sister is in Sunnyside, is Queens.

Thank you. I keep saying Brooklyn. I just ran the New York City Marathon. Have you ever run it? Yeah. Yeah, I just ran it. It wasn't that race incredible. my goodness. I had chills the whole time. Little different than a rail trail. Yeah. Yeah. But this is this is as you said, this is chasing a BQ. This is the number rank number six race in the US for a BQ. Get that BQ. Is that what drew your attention? Like BQ course? Yeah. Yeah. I ran New York pretty well. Not well enough. And I thought maybe if I got a better course, things would break my way. So how to go for it.

It went well. I honestly don't know my time for sure because of the time start, but I think I'm going to be real close to the cutoff. Okay, that's awesome. Now, I'm going to assume you have not run Boston before. No, no, And this is like a big goal. You want to qualify and get into Boston by qualifying. It's all I've been thinking about for about a year. What's your background then? Were you a runner growing up? Were you just like a kind of a runner later in life? Yeah, no, I played football through high school and then I wanted to lose weight when I was done with football. So I just started running and

Totally fell in love with it in growing up in New York City or is just that's where you live now I'm actually from Utah Wow, he's all over have you ever been to New Hampshire before no That's amazing. This is as I say one of the greatest dates. I've been to Utah though. The mountains are incredible. I love the Red Rocks Yeah, that's Utah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, so you come here. What? Tell us about your game plan. Like when did you drive down? You came with a buddy where you guys prepping did you come here before run the course to kind of get a

a feel of it. Like what was the whole game plan for today? Yeah, the whole game plan. Our wives, each have a daughter that's about one years old. So our plan was to come with the families. But something came up and there's supposed to be bad weather. So our family stayed behind. So just turned into a business trip for my friend and I. We got here last night and just tried to go to sleep early and woke up and did our thing. And then you'll drive back today? Yeah, right now we'll just drive straight back.

So I love that you picked this race. Give me your thoughts of the race, of the course, of the people, of the production. Tell me like spare no details of everything you experience today. Well I'll say I love New York City. I love the people but I wouldn't say New Yorkers are very nice, very warm and just kind of a different vibe here. People are very warm, very friendly.

Awesome support out there, even from the runners, like runners were yelling the whole time. I didn't have energy to do that, but that was very special. And the time start was really cool. I felt like a professional athlete. Is that the first time you've done one? Oh yeah. And seeing your name up on the board. You don't get that anywhere else. No, that was awesome. Do you know what started that? No, I don't. That was COVID. And Millennium was one of the first companies to get back to work during COVID. And they set up with the whole state.

and

govern everything like this is how we're going to do it. We're going to separate everyone by seven seconds, two by two, know, social distancing in a way. And they did that for all these races. And it's perfect for this race because a rail trail is only about as wide as a car. You can't do a mass start, but it's kind of neat. Like the people in front of you are seven seconds. You go side by side with your buddy. And it's like just doing a long run. Yeah, that's what it felt like. Training run. So I appreciate it. That's awesome. So I got to ask, what was your meal last night? What do you eat before a marathon?

Honestly, I wanted pasta, but we were just feeling five guys. yes. Okay. We five guys a lot of fries. I think it was probably too greasy. Do you have a big old burger too? Yeah, I did. Did you do you have any fun stories from all your running where possibly maybe what you ate the day before it did not go as well and what happens is something we call the code Brown. yeah. I mean, that was the number one fear of mine coming into this race. It's happened a few times. I never actually had an accident.

But it's it's been close lucky so I took an emodium before that race today and I hung on now Depending race results and everything and depending you know what do they call it not the buffer time, but your BQ yeah, it is basically The BQ system I think is whack because they tell you you need this time But depending on how many people get that time then it's like no you have to be 10 minutes faster Yeah, so there's people that do qualify, but because of all the entry

and how popular marathon running is, it's sometimes faster than what you think. So, not knowing what's going to happen for you yet in the 27 boss marathon, what's next for you? I'm going to do New York again. So, that's going to be a harder course, but we'll just take it a day at a time and hopefully I can replicate today. And how is New York for a New Yorker? Like, you get a good night's sleep, you sleep in your own bed. I mean, you try to sleep in your own bed. Do take the ferry or the bus? I took the ferry. I wanted the full experience. Dude, wasn't it sick?

Yeah,

was in the Statue of Liberty with the boat the Nike boat rise. Oh my god. It was so sick I'm like if you do New York for the first time first timers I feel like you have to take the ferry and you have to automatic be on the top level of the bridge Yes, yes after your first you have no choice like you get what you get That was my first ever marathon, but I did the ferry and I did the top of the bridge and then Frank Sinatra

That

was the best. Are you are you involved in any run clubs in New York? I'm not I go to medical school So I run with some classmates, but nothing official this guy does it all he's gonna save lives. He's running marathons He's got the five guys down that doesn't give you a code Brown. Just was today a PR today was definitely Oh my god That gets one of those you got a PR because it is a wicked fast course and I'm so pumped for you. Will you be back? Not just for this race

But I'm telling you, Millennia, man, they put on a first class event. Some of the best races, not even just in this state, in this country. Yes, I'll keep an eye on the calendar. is amazing. Yeah, awesome. They have a race down in Florida, too. They do an ultra, a full, a half. So it's in January. So it's a nice, like, to get away from the winter. It's great to go down there. For everybody listening, if they want to follow you and see how this goes, how do they follow you? Do do Instagram, social media? you just like a lone wolf out there and you just run and get your

PR

is like how can anyone follow you and watch this journey? Yeah, I mean I don't post too much but definitely you can follow me on Instagram at Sam Perry 10 and Perry is P-A-R-R-Y. P-A-R-R-Y. I'm glad, thankful that you spelled that. That would have been like P-E-R-R-Y. Where is he? Sam, this is so cool. I hope your buddy's doing okay. He's right there. He's got a shirt on. He's alive. We got a shirt on. There he is. And new dads. You both have one year olds. So first kids ever, right? Yes. All right. Well, I'm gonna give you a little

a

warning. They sometimes come in multiples. All right. So if you try again, like I did, I went from one to three. That happens. And then you're you're fast running turns into just trying to get out for. Yeah. So this is awesome. Thank you so much for coming on the podcast, Sam. Safe travels back to New York. Good luck in New York City. I'll be back in New York. Not this fall, but the one after. Yeah, we'll be around. Thanks for having me. Awesome. Thanks for joining. Thank you so much, Sam. Congrats on the run on the other one's podcast with a brand new PR.

Eric (28:24)
So Eddie I'm gonna do a little intro say we're back and we got Eddie. What's your last name? Ferris Ferris. ⁓ I know who you are. ⁓ this is amazing. Here we go. Three two one

All right, I'm back and I just got wicked excited because I just waited. That's this guy, Eddie, to come on the podcast with us. And then I say, what's your last name? Ferris. I know who you are. I'm so excited. We got Eddie Ferris on the podcast. What's up, man? How's it You know, pretty surprisingly good after this. you you seem a little out of breath. How long ago did you finish? About three, four minutes ago. He just came over the finish line. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure you know my awesome co-host, Tera Tera Dackle. Yeah, we're in the run club.

And you're a Millennium runner. So you got the bib on right now. You're part of the club. You do all that. You go to the bubble. Is that what they call it? The bubble? dome. The dome. dome. do all those runs. night workouts. Yeah. Yeah. I'm a fixture in those for sure. Oh yeah. So tell us a little bit about yourself. I know the Millennium people know who you are, but the people listening don't. Tell us a little bit about Eddie. I'm someone that has later on in life been able to crush every distance like I was never able to in my youth.

That's awesome. That's incredible. just didn't have any idea that I have the degree of the running gene that I have and just putting all the work and I'm doing things like running 304 marathons like I just did that I never thought I was able to do. Wow, is that a PR? That's a PR. So when did this start then? Like were you running a long time ago? when did you like get in that?

So I started running my junior year in high school. I got tired of getting hurt in football and joined cross country and I've had a love of running ever since. I'm 35 years in on this. Wow. And you're getting faster. And I'm getting faster. That's amazing. I love that. We're peaking. We're peaking now as we get a little older. We got another guest who just came in from group two, number 27. What's up? What's your name? What up? What up? I'm Connor McGrath from Newport, Rhode Island. Yeah. No way. Wait. Did you win?

I won for myself. I did very good for myself. feel like the winner was a Connor. No, no, no. I got a good Hardy. 69th place, baby. ⁓ yeah! 69th. You know what? The kids today are the whole 6'7". They don't know. They don't know. 6'9". Connor, this is Eddie. Eddie, Connor, welcome to the show. do you do, ⁓ man? 304 PR today. 304? Let's go. Killer, man. You guys both ran the full, right? Ran the full. Yeah. lot of PR say.

Yeah, awesome day PR course out there. I came out here. My guy Eddie right here probably came out here too, right? This is the ranked number six nationally for the best course to like PR and get a BQ. it 304 has to be a BQ, right? Oh, that's awesome. Have you run Boston before? I am running a two and a half weeks. Oh my oh, I don't think this is on the training plan. A full marathon. Take a week off and run another full. I did it last year too. Oh, wow. I hope you're going to rest this week.

Taper it. Now it's tapered time. What's up with you? Newport, Rhode Island? Yeah. When do you drive up here? This morning or last night? I drove up with my mom over here last night. Rockstar mom right there. Yeah, yeah, right. This is the first time my mom's ever seen me run a marathon, so this is really awesome. Cool event. My mom's a big runner.

Now Eddie's from the area. Eddie knows everything about this rail trail Millennium races. Have you ever come to New Hampshire for a run? Have you ever done a Millennium race? And what do you think of this course?

Beautiful course, nice and flat. I mean, taking off out the gates, going downhill a little bit felt pretty good. I think I went out a little bit fast. Nice and flat. I liked how we shortened it so we didn't have to do that last little... The hill? Yeah, that was good. We didn't have to come in and do that. The two turnarounds were nice. The finish was a little bit tricky there with the last uphill, but it was fun, man. I think everyone was cruising on this. my watch stopped working. My watch, the GPS, I lost in the first two minutes.

So I was just pacing with people and everyone was going for a good time everyone was like looking to push themselves So I mean I feed off the energy of other people I met a lot of people along the way that that just got me through now How many marathons is this for you? This is my third man third awesome And what do you get coming up next three for Dale? Um, I'm gonna I just turn on distance next. Yeah, I'm done doing the marathon. You're done. Yeah for now Like ultras, yeah

This is fun man, it's intense people out here PRing it's a lot of good energy, but I like running in the woods Absolutely, what's your running background being in Rhode Island? Did you grow up running in Rhode Island like track high school college? Yeah, I grew up doing a lot of strength training and I grew up I can tell hockey. Yeah What's that are your teeth real? Yeah, let's either

He shakes my hand that just pulled the teeth out Yes, yes, yes, yeah, but we take that energy into running, you know Just it's a team sport dude And that's how I feel like here like I find people to run with a fire get fired up when I see people running hard and I know it's an individual sport, I love the team energy and I love the community that running frames. It's awesome Yeah, runners run they cheer for other runners like you've never had a I've never seen anybody out there like oh You know, you know feeling I

about the community and being around and I'm not around enough but I know you're part of the Millennium Club and you're part of a club. It's a little bit of the locker room feel. You're hanging out with your people. Like the best part about hockey growing up wasn't necessarily the game or the practice. It was hanging out in the locker room after. And when you go play beer league hockey, why are we out so late? Because we're hanging out in the locker room crushing beers, hanging out with our best friends we grew up with. And it's just such a cool community. And running brings that a little bit outside of the run. Hanging out after Run Club, hanging out after these

races and what Millennium does here or if you go you got a Saturday Run Club you hang out after you go get brunch that's what I get from running now later in life. Yeah yeah you do a hard thing with people and it kind of pulls you together you know yeah and it's like in a sport you see somebody get hit you see somebody get knocked up out here you see somebody struggling on the side they're going through a cramp there's like somebody's fighting through something you give them a pat on their back they get fired up you know people are running by you and they're like you got it that's the best feeling ever man it's like it's uh it's just the radiation of positive energy.

awesome and I think people really feed off that and it's really cool to share that with people. Now have you done an ultra before? Never done an ultra before. Alright so there's an ultra you need to do in Rhode Island but you have to do another ultra first to qualify so I'm gonna tell you come here in November and do the hamster wheel and then next year the following year in August sign up for the Anchor Down which is in Colt State Park, Bristol Rhode Island. It's a sick ultra it's run by a guy named

Jay puts on a great job. It sells out in six minutes. So you gotta be like ready to go. And it's a 2.45 mile loop and it starts at 7 PM. ⁓ It's an incredible little ultra. It's a lot of fun. Eddie, what's, well, I know what's next for you, Boston. So what's next for you then? I'm just gonna enjoy it for a little bit. I'm just gonna build my distance, get comfortable with running far and in the summer sign up for some ultras. I think there's some, I love Vermont, man. I love the woods. ⁓

Colorado I love being in the mountains so I'm gonna come with different from on and crush some ultras I want to make some friends in the area just moved to Newport in the past couple of Merp a cat past couple months I actually worked for Brooks running oh yeah yeah yeah no free shout out shout out dead and so Kara yeah yeah just talking about it the other day because of the whole you can't think and I think brands should look for a partnership and not care so much about results care so much about NIL I'm sure you know what that is and I feel like Brooks is doing that with

Yeah, like they're beyond they're retired, but they're still representing them and they're doing amazing engagement and everyone's seeing and that's why I'm wearing Brooks right now Yeah, I mean whatever she works for you works for you man, but ⁓ I get to like spread community I work with a lot with a lot of running stores and again I love it because the community people are fired up in the running world and everyone has each other's

So you just moved to Rhode Island? Just moved to Rhode From where? I moved from Seattle. wow. You're all over. Where's mom from? Mom's from London, England. Shout out the UK. Holy cow. ⁓ Well, if you ever want to come up here, this is,

a sweet spot. Yes. If you like Vermont, you're going to like here. You're to like the mountains. Eddie can tell you Eddie's running here all the time. I see his runs on Strava trails here. You run on a lot of trails. Yeah. How's the trail? So I don't want to see this trail. I'm on the rail trail more than anything, But I tend to use this kind of use of.

What's next for you then? We know the marathon game's over, not because you hate the distance, you want...

to go further. Do you know what race is next? Because we know he's running Boston. Do you know what's next for you? No, I put a lot of focus into this. I'm really proud of my 255.14. Not a big deal? Sing that horn. Sing that horn. That's awesome. I'm really proud of that. So I put all my focus into that. Next is just, again, work on distance. I'm going to build it up. I want to do 100 miles this year. I'm tricky. Oh, I'm cramping. I it? I got a roll recovery over here.

I'm at this point with goals. I don't love to share them anymore. I love to share them with people I'm really close with and have them really support me. I want to do some big races this year and I really believe in myself and I really believe that I can do great things with running and I want to share that energy to people who also think that about themselves and radiate positive energy. for me what's next is to find people in the community that I can train with, that I can share my excitement about running and my excitement about

going far and run with them and sign up for some cool things and push myself. Just continue to push myself. That's what's next for me. Let me tell you, Eddie can talk about it, I'm sure. But the Millennium Running Club is huge here and you got a huge support crew. So if you're ever up this way for work, they run every Tuesday night and Saturday morning long runs and Saturday morning long runs. you know, you got the Millennium races all the time, like first class events here. Eddie, talk about Millennium really quick. You've been running, you've been a Millennium Running Club member

for how long, how do you like the community? Like, help me sell it a little bit here. I'm trying to sell it to Connor. I already love him, man. The community's already sweet. Just being out here is awesome. So actually, so I paced today with Michael Martinez, who's become one of my best friends. A man that I am not afraid to say that I love. And what we did today was we did like the full circle thing. This is a 2021 singlet, which was my first Millennium singlet. So that we could have the whole, you know.

where we were when we started with Yes. To where we are now. The full circle thing. Both of us have just done so many amazing things that we weren't, you we never thought that we'd be able to do. Who you were in 2021 and who you are now. Mike is different. Mike in particular is one of those people that believed in me before I believed in me. That's awesome. It has just been pushing me. You know, I when I first started running with all the faster people in the club. It would always be like 200 yards back.

And now you're the fast guy That's awesome You won the points chase I pulled you over cuz you were talking to Mary Klein who wins the points chase every year on the female side Yeah, and I I finished second again last year

And last year, I actually PR'd every distance in the 5.6 from mile 2 to 26.2. Every distance in the middle. That's amazing. Add a millennium event like PR. That's awesome. I'm so pumped. I need to get you both back for your own episode. Eddie, know, but every Tuesday an episode drops where we have a guest on who do like over an hour of their whole entire story. It'll be awesome. Have you both, especially when you run

100 and we'll get you soon because you're doing Boston. What are you doing after Boston? Are you running straight home? Are you going to hang out go to the mile 27 party? Because I'll give you a little insider tip here. We'll be podcasting for the mile 27 party in City Hall. If you're there, come by. Tell us how your race went. I can't wait to watch both your journeys. I will be there. All right. I'll see you at the jacket party. Awesome. Guys, this is so much fun. Let's get a picture. Eddie and Connor. Yeah. Yeah. On the on runs podcast. I can't wait to follow your

How do people follow you? can they find you? my gosh, the best way to follow me is My my Instagram is New England guru Are you sure about that? No, my personal Instagram is Connor McGrath with two H's and I don't really post much about running on there But you know, no England guru though. Yeah, New England guru. That's me. That's I do post about running on there I love you guys energy. I love the podcast. I will be tuning out I love podcast man and shout out on the run shout out my

Eddie right here forgetting 304 my man hell yeah yes yes I'm ⁓ a corner on the other was what that was wicked awesome

Eric (42:52)
I'm so excited because I have some of my former teammates. I have Jenna and Jenna, the J's. What's up, girls? How you doing? Doing very good, now that we're done the race. yeah. Got the cheer everyone on today. It was awesome. I just learned some big news. This is huge. This is a big deal. But you just ran a half marathon six months pregnant. I did. Yes. That's incredible. Absolutely incredible. So we all ran New York. We were on the team together.

I

got to join the math meets. Yeah, and we did the fundraising events yoga last year all those fun things Let's talk a little bit about New York real quick. How was your New York City experience? It was absolutely wonderful. The crowds were amazing I was unaware at the time, but I was actually five weeks pregnant then so I you know definitely Realized I was a little bit fatigued But I think the crowd just kept me going and it was just such an awesome Experience. It was my first major

It was very cool. How about you Jen? Oh, it was wonderful. Jen and I caught our bus together. We hung out at the start before our perals went off and then I actually was able to catch up with Olivia who also ran for Team Force with us and I got to run the marathon with her for like the second half which was an awesome experience to be able to run with a teammate that you got to run with all year. So that was pretty awesome and then be able to see everybody achieve their goal of running for the New York City Marathon. What an incredible day.

Like

perfect weather, perfect everything. Kind like today, the clouds are out, but what a day to get a PR, whether you're trying to get a PR pregnant or not. What was your race today, a half marathon? I just did the half. I was signed up for the full. I had signed up prior to knowing that I was pregnant just because it's such a cheap race and it didn't cost me anything to drop down. But yeah, was like, think I would rather get a slower.

DNF for a marathon. I just wanted to listen to my body and today a half was perfect. Perfect challenge for me. And now how has been the last six months trying to, you know, still running? Yeah. Having a baby, you know, six months right now, not a big deal. You still have your job. You didn't lose any jobs because you're pregnant? Ooh, America. How has the last few months been? Like how often are you running just as much, less, more? So my goal was just to run every day.

just to keep active. I still incorporate a lot of lifting. Strength training is so much more important now. So, yeah, I just try to keep my body moving. I feel better when I move. Yeah, absolutely. I'm the same. Jen, what is on dock for you? I have Boston in two weeks. Not a big deal. Not a big deal. I just did Myrtle Beach with Tara. Woo! We saw her at the airport. Yeah, with Erica. We were on the same plane. I was like, that girl looks just like Tara.

podium and then I saw Erica on the plane and she was like, Tara's out there and I was like, woo this is be a great time. And we saw Holly there too, so it was a great race. Myrtle Beach was warm, Latin warm. I was just telling Eddie, I was like, if I could draw weather up I would take today and I was like Myrtle Beach, way too hot. It was 62 in the morning and then got to 82 by the time we finished. as well, you haven't run in heat at all. No. We're in New Hampshire, it's winter here. Like what were you thinking going to Myrtle Beach? We went from like 20 degrees to 80.

Like that was aggressive. All our long training runs were in like negative or snowstorm. So that was tough. But it was great time there. Boston in two weeks. And then Eddie and I are running the Zion Ultra Trail Ragnar in May. And then ⁓ for the BRC. You're doing an Ironman. And they're doing Ironman in August. Yes. So I Bay of Fundy. then an Ironman in August in Ottawa. So I'm swimming, trying to get biking outside after Boston.

And you're getting married! And we're getting married this year! Put a lot on your plate there. And they're doing a race before they get married. That sounds hard to get in I'm going to set up a water table on Yeah, I think she wins. She wins. Jenna, you got three months to go. What's the due date? July 19th. Oh, well, I the baby's going to be three days late. Me too! It's to be a July 22nd birthday. Showdown! Is that your birthday? That's our wedding anniversary, so that's why we're holding the party.

Great day, 722. What is, do you have a plan after, do you have goals after? You just kind of like go with it day by day. My goal is to have the baby first. Hopefully it's happy, healthy, and ⁓ prioritize sleep, and then self-care.

And yeah, we'll see. I'm definitely getting back to running as soon as I can. Doing it right. Was there a Bob stroller in your registry? Not yet. I have just the regular stroller. know I should add a Bob stroller. She'll get a running stroller. If the mathletes have anything to say about it, she'll get a running stroller. I want to give you some advice that I give to a lot of people. This isn't like, doctor advice or anything like that. When you're having a baby, when you're pregnant, I say tell everybody because everybody likes to give you stuff.

anything until the last month when you know you need something. Because someone's gonna be like I have a crib or I have clothes or ⁓ my god my kid grew so fast I have all these you know size two diapers. Tell everybody, let them give you

what they want to give you and then figure out what you need with them months ago. Yep. I love hand-me-downs. That's always been my favorite. I hate buying stuff. So hand-me-downs. Anyone got any boy stuff? it my way. Now for anyone listening, what kind of running stroller do you want? I know. I've been looking into them. I'm not picky, though. I'm looking at Facebook Marketplace. But I do like Bob. If anyone has any recommendations, send them her way. ⁓

has

a lock and we don't lock it like it doesn't have the right bearings the wheel gets it really like this so you have to run it with it locked and then when you turn you kind of pull really but I will say like look into either of you try to get one that doesn't do that

Yeah, and because you'll hate that I guess what I it was a bomb, but it was probably a lower end Bob I mean it was given to us. Yeah, no complaining. It's right? Thank you. It's gonna go great July 22nd. Can't wait. 8? No, not 8, 10? Like 44 in the morning. Okay. It's a great time. No pressure. know where you're having the baby. Are you having that at the Elliott? Of course. I work there. So if I go into labor.

Rehab floor, not on the NICU floor. The birthing floor is like three floors down. It's on the third. So just the whole thing is incredible. Dad, good luck. ⁓ My advice to dad is a lot of things happen within a span of like three minutes. And you've never experienced in your life, they've experienced thousands of times. And that's kind of like my experience. I was like, what's going on? Why is this happening? then, ⁓ here's your baby.

It's a lot of fun. Enjoy the ride. Enjoy every second and get some sleep. I will. I will try. Enjoy guys. Jenna and So my team course teammates, the math-leads on the On The Runs podcast. was wicked awesome. Thank you. Thank

Eric (50:45)
we're back

I'm with Territory of course. Erica's still out there somewhere. I wonder if she's struggling. I saw her twice. You saw her twice? She looks great. She's smiling. We high-five twice. Well, if you can't tell from their voices, we have some local legends here. We have Crystal and Zeke Buckley on the podcast. Finally, I feel like this has been a long time coming. In fact, I'm talking to Jordan the other day and she goes, have you asked her yet? And I go, no, but I'm going to ask her right now to come at the cheap marathon. And that's when I DM the two of you. How you doing? Good. Good, good, good. How was your day today?

Was this like a goal race or fundraise? This was my last long run before Boston. Ooh, not a big deal. So now taper. Taper time. And you ran before because you told me like I'll do my mileage before because you had more than a half to do. Yeah, I three and half before with Chris Cunningham who's also running Boston and then did this. So now it's taper. And then what was your plan? buddy. ⁓ Mine was actually going to be to run the full and then I realized after my 20-mile run that was probably not in my best interest.

No, no, like,

Like a 20 mile training run. Yeah, yeah, I did a 20 mile training run and then had a hammy kind of acting up and I'm like, yeah, I don't really want to, you know, go to a fall and then limp away from that. You have to do the whole process of, you know, coming back to it. So. We'll get to this race in a second, but let's talk a little bit about the two of you. Let's get a little bit of your story. Crystal, I think you've been a runner for a long time. Were you a runner before Zeke or were you a runner after you met Crystal? Long after. I was like smoking and.

whatever

one I met her basically. Married into it. this a I can change him type of thing? No, I didn't want to change him. I had my running. He went hunting a lot. I was like, is great. And then he surprised me on my 30th birthday signing up for the two mile race that Millennium does. Shamrock Shuffle. Yeah. And now I've met you a couple of times. I want to say the 5K for Jay was the first time I met you. And you have little kids too and you run with them all the time. Like they do the race. They do the trick or trot. Yeah.

You run with the stroller too and I've seen you both doing that. You're a very involved family in this community. and I also run the Healthy Kids running series in Peterborough. so wait, you're from that way out west? Out in the sticks. My kids do, we did it in Nashua and we'll probably do it in Manchester this year. That's where we started was in Nashua and then I was like, I want to bring this to Peterborough. I contacted them. So you're like Steve 305 as I like to call him.

Run

the program? Yes. What is involved in running that program? It's pretty much just bringing the community together to get like businesses to sponsor us, get kids from Mananakh region and then Cheshire region, which like reaches Keen. ⁓ And then I try to get as many kids as possible to show like, it's just good to like get yourself moving. And then I see so many smiles crossing that finish line and that's all I want to see. I even think I saw you, I might be wrong, but were you on WMUR pumping the tires for it? Last year, yes. Yeah, not a big deal.

Pretty cool. are you involved with that or do you just let her handle that? Or does she make you like lay out the cones? He's the cone guy. I show up with a truck full of stuff and I just get yelled at for an hour beforehand and 20 minutes after and then we go have a nice lunch. It's so much fun. The big... she does... You do Healthy Kids too. We have Jessie. Jessie runs it out of Dover, right? Yeah. Unreal. What a Healthy Kids reunion.

We know someone who can set that up and make it happen Me oh no, we do this now, this is so much fun We do this now and then we're gonna be doing it in a couple weeks from Boston

yeah, ⁓ well exactly she comes to mile 19.2 and shares with us But we have to leave early this year

Well, I'm gonna spill this to you now and we're announcing it later this week, but we have to leave early because we're recording from the mile 27 post race party. ⁓ that's awesome. Love it, the air horn. ⁓ Let's talk a little bit. All right, so you've been running forever. Let's go to Zeke. I like Zeke here. He's got the Bank of America Chicago marathon. If you listen, follow, you know, I Erica so much crap about it, but you were a smoker and a hunter and then you just started running. You signed up for a two mile.

the

hook for you? ⁓ Basically, wanted to stop being, well, I still love hunting, honestly, but, you know, smoking wasn't really the smartest thing to do, like going into COVID and all that was kind of like the precipice and then like having kids, I didn't really want to like set that example as what is normal and expected or acceptable behavior. So like, you know, I just wanted to basically make that life change and then like with her being a runner, it was her 30th birthday.

Coming up and I wanted to do something that like meant more than just like a watch or and she doesn't like jewelry anyway So you just buy her bright shoes. That's like yes That's kind of what we do, you know, so it was mostly just all of that combined, you know So you went from a two mile race to now you're like multi marathons. You went headfirst. Yeah Yeah, I kind of just go off the deep end with everything. So I'm actually it's funny now I'm more of a running nerd than Crystal from like the nerd perspective of it. Are you in?

Like the Bo2 met like you do all that stuff nerdy or something. Yeah, like I'll listen to podcasts I'll watch like the New Balance track meets like all the way down to high school the NXN like I watch it all while I'm on the treadmill ⁓ Whatever Leadville Western States. I'm into all of it, you know, and she's just like who the ⁓ Who's sage candidate or who's know, whatever zero zero idea like who these guys are so are you watching this like look what I've done or you're like

What

have I done? have I done? No ladder. No ladder. A little bit about your running background. Were you a big runner in high school, middle school, college? I hated running unless I was chasing after a ball. That's literally what I was I did softball, basketball, and soccer. Soccer was probably my best sport, which probably helped me become a running adult. But yeah, I hated running if there was no ball involved. When was the start then? Around 22, 23 I just started running. Yeah? Yeah. Incredible. And you're fast.

Yeah, how many boss is now this will be my third third third in a row? No, okay, but you ran last year, Okay, ⁓ cuz I remember running into you I think on Boylston last year like Okay, okay cheering on friends cuz you're you're very involved you and Kristen do a lot of fun things and it's just you see pictures everywhere like Dave's around right now taking photos and he always seems to snag them of a lot of the same people in the Millennium Club you are you both

Millennium

Club members? No, we thought about it, we live in Peterborough so it's like 45 minutes anyways. Now Crystal, you ran up one Boston pregnant, right? Yes, in 2021. Not a big deal. Was that your son? My daughter. Oh, your daughter, okay. it 16 weeks, but I didn't have a belly.

Did you know you're pregnant? Okay. She was full. She was a surprise though. You didn't lose any jobs. Did you? No. Okay. Good. Good. Actually when we found out I was No sponsors dropping. You can't. I did not think you can. You can't say that. I was training when we found out obviously and my first reaction I came out of the bathroom and I was like oh fuck that was what I said. He's like no. was like yeah. That's so funny. Like I've never had a kid but I can imagine being like oh my god

we're

pregnant but oh fuck I gotta run Boston. Is that your first? No she was our second. She was our second and now she doesn't stop moving so I'm like was that for me or was that her own? Yeah. She is an animal. Do you two run and train together or do you have to get out on your own separately? No.

We even have two treadmills in the basement next to each other and she refuses to run on the treadmill at the same time. Do you have like a his and hers? Like do you only use one? Does she use the other? We have a treadmill, like we have a bad treadmill history. It's like Tiger Woods driving, you know? That's pretty bad though. Yeah, so I think we're at like almost an average of one treadmill a year we destroy. I think it's me because I'll end up doing like a little speed work on it and 200 on a treadmill doesn't ride like she does on there and I just snap the...

and

then in that process, I fixed the ⁓ broken one so that we could still run on it while we were waiting for everything to show up. So now we have three treadmills in the basement, two are sitting up next to each other and then one's just sitting there like, what are we going to do with it? Do you do more treadmill running in the winter or for your training? How often do you like the ratio treadmill versus

I unfortunately have to do it usually Monday through Friday because of this work schedule and the two kids at home. So when they're older, I'll be able to put them on a school bus and go out and put them before I have to go It's tough balance. I have that balance right now because two kids, three kids, but two different schools and they get out at the same time. ⁓ And it's like the whole juggling this and all that. And next year is going to be so key. They'll be all at the same school. So I'm like, all right, cool. And then sometimes I just go early and I run around the school.

Yeah. That's how I get it in. It's weird. It's tough being a parent because of that balance and that juggling. So that's why I'm a big advocate on treadmill miles count. I mean, if you see it on social media, there's a lot of people who think it doesn't. And I'm like, for some, it's like this is the only thing we can do. Do you feel like you put, because I ran on the treadmill the other day. We got one at work and I utilize it when it's crappy out. Do you feel like you're using more energy on a treadmill when you're even going slower? Yes. Right. All the time. I it's the mental game. Yeah. But I mean, I do watch like Netflix or

or

something, but it's still like I'm staring at a wall. The you've been watching the pit at all? Oh, you got to watch the I really like the secret lives of Mormon wives. that where that like Taylor, Paul, Frank girl is? Is she, what is she? She's a hot mess. I never heard of her until the other day and I'm like, and then she has three first names. Yeah. like, who's this girl with three first names throwing stools with babies in the room?

Hot mess. Yeah. Hot mess, What's next for you, Zeke? What do you got planned? I really don't know. I mean, we're doing Cinco de Miles, I think, right? But nothing. I don't have any, like, goal races set really at the moment, you know? So we'll find something, you How do you guys feel about today? How do you... You were... Did you say you were injured?

borderline. definitely didn't have an A day, like we survived and I haven't done any like work on trying to be quick in a couple months. So like it was about what I expected. Okay, all right. How was your day? Energy-wise felt great. My bad knee was acting up, but I'm

Do you like that? it's weird. Is it weird? I think it works though. Yeah. Even if it's mental, it's like something. I just want to try those cool things. I can't do it. I've done it before, but I literally get sick. Like I physically, like the needle part. It makes me like nauseous. Are you like when you can't have like, look, blood's being drawn or anything like that? I am such a baby with needles. It's so bad. But Crystal, is Boston like, is this a race? Are we racing Boston or are having fun? I haven't, I don't think I'm racing it. Okay.

You know Zeke you can see her one time but have a great time on mile 19.2. You know I'm trying to figure out how to make this all happen because I've been like going down the wormhole of like ⁓ trying to figure out Boston Transit which is like you basically need to be Rain Man. I just did it yesterday at opening day. ⁓

purple line out to Framingham and then you could through Wellesley but then there's no way to get from like the purple line to then like hop because I wanted to be somewhere in like your vicinity or like the top of Heartbreak Hill or something but like to work your way back is like next to impossible so you either have to like uber or do the tee or like commit there's so I'm trying to figure out how to like work that gap or if I should just give up and like you know beg Allie on the run to like go be on the footbridge or whatever and like this I'll see you once.

Yeah, whatever it takes. We will be near the green line. Newton Center is the stop. OK, I'm doing the same thing right now. like, OK, how do I get from mile 19.2 right next to the John Kelly statue to City Hall? But also where my trip back is convenient. So I might get in the car and drive, I think, into Sullivan Square and then take the orange line into ⁓ City Hall, City Plaza. Maybe I'll do the Framingham and then just Uber to 19.2 and I'll just follow you. Yeah, perfect.

It's a logistical challenge that's fun. It's so much fun. So I'm so excited for Boston and seeing it all. And seeing you run will be great this year. Remember, mile 19.2 on your left. On my left. I hope you have an amazing day. Thank We should get you two back one day, because we talked about this with someone else. I love dating stories. And we had this one couple who came on, or not a couple, but just the girl talked about her first date and how it was COVID. And they went on a hike. And they're like, we peed together outside.

It's just those funny things peeing in the woods. I would love to do like a couples on the run, especially with the local connection. It'd be fun if we could start some type of series like that and have you two kick it off with that local connection. That'd be a blast. We'll do it in first because I know I know you got the kids. You stay at home with the kids all the time and I know they love to make appearances. We'll figure it out. It'll be a lot of fun. But Zeke and Crystal, this was incredible. Thank you for coming by. Like we'll talk Chicago because you know how I feel about Chicago sometimes. I need to go to really get the feel.

But this is a lot of fun. Thank you for going by and let's this again. Good luck in Boston Good luck with everything going on the knee and the leg and and I can't like I want to I want to hear about dry kneeling it sounds fun Guys, I hope you enjoy that Zeke and Crystal on the on the runs podcast. That was wicked awesome

Eric (1:05:36)
Excited because we got a guy who just went to Disney World one of the happiest places on earth But he also just ran a marathon just crossed the finish line Paul. What's going on man? I'm not much this was hard But probably not as hard as having a four-year-old and a nine-month old at Disney World I've been there. I've been there with one-year-old twins. ⁓ Yeah, it's nuts. We'll talk Disney in a little bit cuz I love Disney talk But where are you from? Tell us a little bit about yourself? grew up in Wellesley, which so like I was always into running Boston, Maryland

Boston

once for a charity. ⁓ And now I live in Winchester with two kids. Nice. What brought you here to New Hampshire then? What was the point, the goal, the motivation for this race? Yeah, there's not enough races in Massachusetts that you can kind of rely on the weather being decent, right? I feel like the climate's really changed. A May marathon, I would totally bonk because I'm terrible in the heat. Same So this is like a great race. I I like, I've done some big ones. I like the idea of one that's a little bit calmer on the bike path and more in your own.

So today was was today like a were we racing today? it a retry in for anything specific? Tell us a little bit about today. My last marathon was a year ago and I ran just under four hours So I wanted to beat that time and I actually really was super confident that I would and I just didn't so that's okay But you know, honestly, like I love the training. I like the training a lot more than the race like the racing makes me super

anxious.

Yeah. But I love just running every day, getting out and you know what I mean? And so, you know, I underperformed the online calculator for my marathon for my 5K time by about 40 minutes. It's still awesome to just run every day and like this is an energizing environment. do you ever make it up this way off of that? You said Mass doesn't have the right races climate, timing wise and everything. Like not really. My wife's family's on the North Shore. But you know, this is only 35 minutes from Winchester. Yeah, true. drove up this morning, guessing, right?

Yeah, yeah, what do you want? So you grew up in the area? What do you do in the area? Like are you involved in the community you ran boss and you raised money for a charity? What's kind of like your background here running? feel like I mean I feel like I'm not super involved in the broader community outside of just like taking care of little kids and working but I work on work related to like the biotech industry. Yeah, I mean that's what I'm like I'm super I actually

really like my job. Erica should get her resume for him. Yeah, I know. We have another actually the actual co-host. I'm a fill in today, but Erica is the main, but she does the same kind of the same thing that you do, I think. Yeah, we joke because we don't understand. We just say, ⁓ so you work at a sperm bank and then she gets a little red and she goes, no, I don't. ⁓ How did your race go today? Was there a goal like a PR? Yeah, honestly, like it go well relative to what I wanted.

Like I was really trying to average 830s, which I like ran and training and felt very confident in. Did not really even come close to that, right? I was about 25 seconds a mile slower, but ultimately I'm still like, not to be cliche, but like halfway through I knew I was not going to be able to do it and felt like SHIT today. Yeah. Oh, you can swear on this podcast. I don't know if you noticed that's our little logo. So I felt like absolute shit today. this is a super easy race to drop, right? Like you have to go past the beginning. Yeah.

So like it's kind of a mindfuck when you go back there because I'm my car's right there. I can just go meet my family. So I'm proud of like continuing on and just like doing it. finishing. Changing the goal for the second half just to like have fun and enjoy music and people and stuff. so yeah, like honestly I'm pretty happy. Now you mentioned your family. They're here. Do they come to these a lot with you? They come, but like I don't make my wife try to like carry them around spectating. So the first one I ran was in New York, in New York Marathon, and like she brought my son in the...

New York City marathon, yeah First marathon and I was like, this is great Yeah, yeah, they come but like, you know, I told her meet me at the finish because I don't want to worry about her Yeah, navigating the two of them around What's next for you you got any other running or events coming up soon?

I'm running through this charity Tunnels to Towers, which is pretty cool. They support first responder families and stuff like that. Yeah, I'm just trying to stay consistent. It's a good stress reducer. Yeah, New York's incredible. I ran it last year. I ran the best part about New York. Well, there are so many, but my favorite first part was getting off the bridge and this guy sitting next to you was there and gave me a big hug. Oh, is that right? Why it's kind of a big deal? Why it's a big social media guy and he's running, he's done this.

On

a second go-round, but he's done 50 marathons in all 50 states in one year And now he's on his second go-round He builds the coolest tables in the world Builds a table sells them and then travels the world I'll hop in here

the way to do it. Yeah, that's good. That's smart. Gotta stay positive. So real quick, Paul, last thing I mentioned Disney. You just came back from Disney. You the kids, get the JetBlue ticket still on the stroller. How was Disney? Did you do the whole week? Did you stay at the resort? How was the trip? Honestly, it was great. We stayed at this wilderness lodge. You know that one? So we had like a little cabin. You know, the idea was the kids would be in one room. We'd be in another room. So I slept in the baby's room. My wife slept with my son. the light on still. So, you know, like I

Like

I said, like this was tough on my body, but that was tougher. Yeah. It's a good training for marathon. had the kids napping at home. We were both sitting, taking turns in the norm attack the day after. We were like, you know, to fall over. Yes. Yes. But it was good, I remember it forever. I'm a big Disney fan. I'm happy you got to do that and experience it. Yeah, because she was like, oh, he must have flown in for the, maybe he flew here to get a BQ because this is the sixth ranked national course for BQ. And so it's fast and it's great. More of like a four, some four hour.

We're not all chasing bq's we're having fun Where can anyone find you if they want to follow you run in the New York City Marathon this year? Good luck with New York. I'm so happy you get the wife and the kids out here and you're involved, but you're also doing those dizzy trips, man. That's so

Cool.

And we really might have to hook you up with Erica, our real co-host who works in the biotech industry, who just found out she needs to look for a new job. OK. All right, man. Wonderful. Guys, Paul in the On the Runs podcast. That was wicked awesome. Thank you.

Eric (1:12:53)
All right, we're back with our next guest on the pod. Erica's sitting here standing right there, but she's not welcome because she did not run a PR. We said that's an inside rule. But hey, we got, we got an incredible guest today. I got to blur that on the YouTube now. We got an incredible guest today. We got Wyatt Moss, a pod fam favorite. He's in New Hampshire running the cheap marathon. Dude, what's up? How's it going? ⁓ man, I'm so psyched to see you finally in person. I know it's been so long. You bet Erica.

You've slept in her house. have. has housed me before a marathon. I know. I'm surprised you didn't stay there again this time. Yeah, I was staying with a buddy down in Boston. OK. It just worked out that way. And you this is really southern New Hampshire, just right over the border from Mass. Yeah. I mean, that's why we always say the Boston Marathon's like our hometown race. We're just right here, man. We're right here. This is like, it's not a suburb. It's just a little better. Southern New Hampshire is awesome. yeah, we're better than everybody else in New England. We're the number one New England state. Coolest by far.

was amazing today. Yeah, you like so much fun. Yeah. Conditions are perfect. Overcast, really cold out. So this morning I thought it was going to be really sunny. There's blue skies, absolutely wonderful sunrise on the way out. Just beautiful. This great. ⁓ driving over the bridge from mass was incredible. ⁓ was so the color. It was like purple. I know, right? So pretty. It's so cool. Are you keeping track of how many marathons this is now? Because you're doing the 50 states again, right? So today is my 76th official marathon in the past three years.

a

big deal. That's insane. number 11 for the year. And we're going for 50, right? We're going for 50. 50, baby. Is Hawaii going to be the finish again? Yes. I think that's going to be a consistent trend. Yeah. we're going to 50 every year. Well, I'm not going to do it, but someone's going to be doing it. So my goal now is I've done it once, and it was amazing. This second go-around is to try to build up a shorts company, know, athletic apparel. That way I can sponsor an athlete to go do this in future years, because I've had such an amazing experience with it. It's changed my life.

I've been able to meet all these incredible people along the way and I want to give someone else that experience. So as I do it this year, that's my why, my purpose. And the shorts company. So I just talked about this here today. I had a problem with my thunder thighs. Like I keep getting holes in the middle and the inside liner of them. So I love to see what you do there. Let's talk a little bit about New Hampshire, cheap marathon. How did you find this race first off? Well, so at the beginning of the year, actually back in December, I was debating if I'd actually be able to pull off the 58.

again. My Achilles was really not in the best shape. And so I decided I was like, all right, I'm going to do this, like find the schedule and everything like that. I got to start going to the gym. I got to start, you know, lifting weights again. Because honestly, if you would ask any of my friends and family back in November when I ran my last half marathon, they would have told you there's no way I could do the 50 again, just because my Achilles is in really bad shape. Anyways, I was looking for the schedule back in December. And, you know, it's hard to get 50 states in one year because there's only 50 weeks. Right. There's a couple of double

weekends and I saw this filled out, you know, one of the weekends. It wasn't one of the biggest races in New Hampshire, but I was like, all right, we're to go for it. Right. So this is this is like kind of a cool staple the last five years. This started because of covid. Yeah. And it started mass and then Millennium took it over and it used to be it's a new course this year. It's the same course, but it's the opposite. It used to start the other end where you turned around and it came to here and turned around and went up. But this is better only because of the area we're at now. Millennium running does these first class events where they got all these

They couldn't really do it on the dairy side. It just worked out incredible. And then it's a fast course. Like lot of people come here for BQs from all over. think we got 37 states today. 26 % of the runners were running sub three hours. Yeah. That's a fourth of the racers. It's so fast. I mean, it's flat. It's a rail trail. No, not many road crossings. And then just like, that's what they come here for. What was your goal coming here? My goal was to finish New Hampshire. That's right. achieve that goal. So Wyatt, I have a question.

How many states are you doing some of the same races that you did your first go-round? So the schedule is probably like 70 % the same. Because the biggest marathons in the country, that's the starting point. So Marine Corps, New York City, Chicago, those are the stables. Philly, Atlanta, all the really big cities. After that, I get to kind of fill in the double weekends and the summer months basically. With the marathons that are not ⁓ the big ones. So for the big ones, you're not doing Boston, right? I'm not.

I'm not fast enough for Boston. Okay. Are you doing Chicago? Yes. and I will be in Chicago. Tentative. Oh, okay. The day before is Connecticut. Oh, I'm going to do Hartford. wow. That's Hartford. Kayla, who is doing the announcing today. Yeah. She does the announcing for Hartford. Oh, really? I her this morning. Yeah, she's awesome. She's incredible. Pod fam as well. Pod Pod fam. Real quick, few more things about this course. So you've been gaining this online social presence the last couple of years. You've really been blowing up.

Yeah, this is a course for you pass everybody twice. it's amazing What was the reaction like people see you were you chair? I heard you were cheering them on I heard people were yelling for you like this isn't a point-to-point where you're just running around the people around you're passing people every five seconds coming at your direction facing you so It was awesome and the entire way my goal going out there was just like all right know what? I'm just gonna wave to every single person so that's what I did the entire race someone go past me

I high-fived with them. I'd just say something from their shirt or whatever it is just to build rapport. That first lap, people were kind of looking at me like, okay, cool. But when I passed them on the second lap and then like on the, you know, up and back, like the third one, the fourth one, not lap, but going up back, that type of Then they would like smile back. And so now when I was kind of feeling bad at the end of the race, they would give me that energy. And so I think that a lot of people think, you have to be a social media person to be able to do that. Any person can go out there and just put a thumbs up. Like you can bring the positivity to any.

any

race. You don't have to be making a social media video. You just live your life like that. Right. And that's I was doing way before any of these videos did well. And most of the time when I'm running these races, I'm not filming it. like, you know, that what you saw today, just all the energy that I have. That's I do every single time. Yeah. Love it. I saw people come over to you, actually. I went and sat down on the pavement with Wyatt. ⁓ I was your buddy. No, I had never met them. That's the thing is like we have that opportunity every day just to smile, be positive and bring someone in.

of the equation. Yeah, there was a girl that came over and was like, thank you, like thanking him for like thumbs up and cheering. It's like that little bit of motivation. Like you don't know how much that helps somebody that's like in the struggle. That's the human experience right there. You know, of my favorite things to say, because after you run these a couple of times, you get like similar phrases that you get to say during the race. And so one my favorite things to say is like when you're at mile 23, it's like this is, you know, there's only one way to get here. But you had to run 23 miles to get here. So this is what it feels like to be alive.

And so someone's like, man, I'm dead right now. And I'm like, no, this is what it feels like to be alive. Like you can't get this feeling anywhere else. You got to run 23 miles to get it. Love that. Joining us here is we're going to let her come in even though she didn't PR. Erica. Erica. What's up? What is up? I am a little bit dead, but hey, let me tell you, Wyatt, you were a big help out there on the course. You such a big help.

I am sorry that I did not PR, but I'm very grateful that you're letting me talk in the podcast Hi everybody

Do you have anything for your former roommate? Congratulations. One evening, another state down. You were just cruising and just love watching your journey. So much fun. Thank you. Thank you. You've met Erica a handful of times now outside of the roommate, but you've run races with her. You've ridden in the six star mobile. I think like you saw each other. The three of you. Yeah. Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, that was a fun race. I remember back in New Hampshire in 2024.

That was when I stayed over with Erica. That was my fastest double marathon average. And it was just incredible. It probably the best. It was best. My pleasure. hold on. The marathon the next day was like Wyoming. Across the country. was Portland, wasn't it? So apparently we were on New Hampshire. We're at the start line. And someone was asking like, what's tomorrow? And I was like, Portland. That's right. Portland, Maine. Portland, Maine literally was the next day. It would make sense.

And he's like, I'm doing the other one. other Portland. The other Portland. The one that's across the United States. Yeah, yeah. So that's also the one where I flew into Boston. There were no rental cars. I shipped my shoes up to New Hampshire. I popped them on a bus. And I went to grab them in Concord. And then we made it right before FedEx closed or something. So that worked out fine. And you had a very tight schedule that weekend. You ran the marathon. I ran the 10K just to do something. And then I hung around.

Got you right in the car. did a we hopped in the lake. Yeah, you did the lake dive and then we were like already on the road to Boston. Yeah, I had enough time to get you some Chipotle, a shower and get on another bus down Shout out to Chipotle who started this 50 state journey. Exactly. Then you ran Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago and you had a flight delay or canceled flight. You're supposed to go to L.A. the next day. Well, that's the thing. Like, I don't know. People always wonder why I'm running late or whatever it is. They're like, he's doing the bit again. It's like, no.

⁓ This happens, know, like flights get delayed they get canceled so I was like I put up my story immediately I was like, all right, can anyone get me to? Yeah, a four-hour drive exactly and then like wait I got rebooked and so I took down the Charlotte story because like this is all happening in a moment Yeah, so especially if I figure it out there's in my social media is lying behind but probably an hour So yeah hitchhiked out of there and the lady who picked me up on the hitchhike

talking

for a second and then yeah, I just it's fun to meet new people. Yeah, that pressure is so much fun. What's your airline status right now? It's got to be like platinum. You know, I I get a free checked bag with Frontier. Whoa. I don't mess around. To the guy that doesn't check anything. He has a backpack. Yeah, one pair of change of clothes. That's really it. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, because you need LA.

You don't have a room or anything. You just get there and you were the first one there. man. OK, first double for the year. Yeah. Double marathons are when I run Saturday in one state, fly to another state and run Sunday morning. so the first day was Myrtle Beach, flew out to Los Angeles. And my friend had offered me a place to stay on her couch. But it was like one o'clock in the morning by the time I got there with all the flight delays and stuff. And then you have to wake up at like three thirty because of the L.A. traffic to get to the bus to take the bus over. And like, it's just a nightmare. I was like,

Genius idea it's gonna be record high temperature right they did the whole like 18 miles then you could stop at mile 18 and get the medal Eric I hated that I not have taken the it's not a marathon but I figured I was like okay well it's already one o'clock in the morning genius idea let me go to the start line get six hours of sleep right that way don't have to wake up fall asleep on the bus or whatever it is well I get there

and it's so cold. As well, like it's two o'clock in the morning, they won't let me in yet. They're like, hey, you gotta wait. And then like immediately it's the time change day, so now it's three o'clock. And so like five minutes after I asked her if I could go in, she's like, no, you gotta wait an hour. And I was like, no, no, No, no, five minutes. At that point, I just stayed awake. Now this is what was the most interesting part. These two kids had driven down from San Francisco, six hour drive through the night, Stanford guys. And they were gonna run their first marathon ever

like basically no training. The one guy is fasting for Ramadan. Oh my God. He can eat all this food and water until sun up. Yeah. And then the entire race, he didn't have a single drop of water. Oh wow. The entire race. 90 degrees. Yes. Oh no. Oh no. And so, and then, you know, we see a rocket ship taking off because it's like California. Yeah. And just all these things started happening. And like, this is another, another phrase I learned is just, it keeps getting better. It just keeps getting better. And I love that phrase. Even when things are going wrong. Oh man, it just keeps getting better. And didn't you, you ran,

LA faster than Myrtle, didn't you? So that was my fastest time for the year until today. Oh, today! I'll take a high five for that. Congrats! Thank you. What did you run today? What was your time? Today was a 3.34. Oh my god, that's awesome! Nice. That's because you got seven hours of sleep last night. I had seven hours of sleep. I had one gel at the start, one ketone IQ, and then yeah, that was it. The entire race.

I rely too much on you know outside factors sometimes but hey you know what your works your strategy work is incredible what's next for you this is a well actually let's talk about this this is a rare thing I feel a single marathon weekend for you what do you what you get to do now you get to relax you're not rushing to the airport to travel

Country to run another one tomorrow. Yeah, I've got a red eye 5 a.m. And then until then I just got a recover edit a video I don't know what I'm gonna do with all this extra time Are you going back to Boston to your friend's house? Yep, you're going back to Boston and then I'll probably see a couple buddies Edit the video, but I don't know what's next for the year. It's doing the 50 states There are a bunch of things happening this year. So I which I would love y'all's help with I'm in yeah, these are very much ideas, right? She's always in it's just hard to get her to contribute

No,

no, no, he already told me what he needs from me. ⁓ well, she says yes to him right away.

I mean one of the ideas that we have it's the 250th anniversary for the USA. Yeah on July 4th. Now coincidentally October 9th of 2023 was my day one of running a mile every day and July 4th is day 1000. Holy shit. he planned that out right. There have been some nights where it's like 1205. So you know if you want to call that off.

So

be it like for me. It's just before I go to bed. I run a mile and I keep it up every single day But so then my buddy and I are thinking through this idea like wait this only happens once and running is at an all-time high What if we did like a relay across the country? We just carried an American flag So one of the ideas that we're passing around is hey We should get 250 athletes across the country Whoever you are on that route to carry the flag from Los Angeles to DC and on July 4th at the White House lawn

That's one thing we're thinking about. And then I'll leave the other idea up in the air for basically later on in year. We'll start there with that one. All right. Well, keep us in tune with what you're doing. mean, the whole there's so many cool I've been to Washington, D.C. I've ran around all the monuments, like just running around that with the flag would be epic and all the stops you can make at the Capitol at all the monuments. could podcast live from the White House. That would be so great. monument. Maybe out front. monument.

The Lincoln Steps, they got the MLK one. You got the one, think it's Vietnam is there. There's so many. ran around. It was so cool. was lucky. had a guy who knew the area. He took me around. I'm going to be there in two weeks. I'll run again. So here we go. Yeah. I'll get the lay of the land for you. That's a preview. Yeah. Yeah. Survey it again. Wyatt, what's next weekend? Where are you going next weekend? Oh, man. Next weekend is Arkansas and then the Carlsbad 5000 in San Diego. Nice. That's the one that you carried the surfboard for, right? Yeah.

in the convertible. Oh man, that was so much fun. Yeah, that's a good race. I that's the thing. think people think, you know, to get into running, you have to run a marathon. But I think it's just go have fun. Do a 5K, 10K, whatever it is. whole thing is movement. Now, are you going to be back in Boston a couple of weeks? And are you not running? What are you going to have a presence? You were there last year, not running. You were doing things. You're doing events. You're seeing people shaking hands, kissing babies, doing all the good things. I'll be doing that again this year.

Yeah. Well, you got to come find us because we're going to be there all weekend. Well, we cheer at mile 19.2. Awesome. But on Saturday, we're recording from City Hall Plaza on Monday after the race and the post race party. We're recording from City Hall Plaza. We got media creds. We're going to be walking around, shaking hands, kicking our foot in the door. Yes. And we might even be doing some cool interviews on Sunday, too. So it's going to be a full weekend. I'm putting Erica to work. She doesn't know it a little.

She's she's committed that c-word is now instead of content. It's contribute Why I'm so happy that we built this This friendship is bond this cool thing, you know, we found you Erica found you around Notch you pigs here. Oh gosh When I first found out about you and then I actually

saw you at that Not-To-Be race. had like the 72 miles in 24 hours, which is amazing on that course. And yeah, we've just been following you ever since. That was awesome because we had been talking on Instagram by then, and then I started running like literally 100 meters in. she's like, what? was sitting in a chair like She's like 24 hours into this ultra marathon. It's

What is the next couple of local races here? you going to Maine, Massachusetts? We know Connecticut's not until the fall. Hartford.

gonna be October 11th or 10th or something like Then you've got Rhode Island, Newport, October 17th maybe.

Eric (1:31:12)
we're back after a quick power outage. Wyatt was saying 113 laps around Fenway Park. PodFan better show up because unlimited, unlimited attendance. Yeah, and maybe unlimited beer. ⁓ no, no. But yeah, they said that as many spectators that want to join, that's also like the.

One of the problems with being on the move all the time is that these things are all very much up in the air. I still need to sign the paperwork and everything like that. just take it with a grain of salt, everything that I say. So I have a question. The people that are running the Fenway one, they have to raise money. So are you? Yes. I have a fundraising commitment that I got to hit. So what I'm trying to think through is maybe I do a partnership with a local brewery or something like that for an after party. I'm not entirely sure. But I think we'll be able to pull it out.

There is a brewery right next to Fenway. So I'll get you that funky monkey or... It would be... I don't know. I have a friendship with Castle Island. is a little bit... Yeah, so I think it would be... I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. I've already worked with him before and it was fun, so we'll try to figure it awesome. Have you ever been to Fenway Park? Man, ah, I don't know. Okay. I was just there yesterday for opening day. It's one of my favorite places ever. I was... I have a feeling I was, because I feel like I was at the Green Monster once. Oh, okay. That's a good spot to be.

Yeah, but it was probably for like a really, you know, mid baseball game. Yeah. How's the table making business going? So I haven't been making tables. So I don't like to talk about this because I don't want to encourage it, but I'm doing the 0 % debt again this year to be able to pull off this series. I think it's it's not something that most people can do. The reason I feel like I can, I'm not, it's not as much of a risk is because I live at home with my parents still. So I wouldn't encourage it whatsoever. Please do not do this. Right. Do not this. It's financial advice.

I the staying at home and just don't ever move out. Call them the roommates. Me and my roommates. Milk it till you can. I lived with my parents till I was 28. Yeah, it's awesome. think especially in today's world and as well, it's just amazing to be able live with your parents and then experience life with them because once you move, you get to see them. Holidays. Holidays, couple days a year. you're close on the weekend. Not enough. I know.

blessing and I love it. I'm so grateful. That's part of the reason why I'm trying to build up the shorts. One is so I can financially start providing for all these adventures that I do. But on top of that, I could be the one that becomes the sponsor. Because I know so many companies that will just throw money at big content creators, but those creators aren't doing anything with it outside of just not quote unquote lining their pockets, but just like they're not on the frontier. They're making the same content, collecting the money or whatever. It's like they're running a business, so be it. But I think that

social

media is a place where we can be inspiring, we can be pushing the frontier and like if the top creators aren't doing it, who's gonna do it? So I'm like, all right, if brands aren't gonna like this year, I pitched this whole 50 state series again to a company and then they said, hey, you know, our strategy has changed. And so then like, if big companies aren't gonna take a leap of faith on me after I've already done it before, like I've proven the results. It's like, all right, well, I gotta be the one that, you know, sponsors people because no one else is gonna do it.

want to do this. think that's a I love it. I love it. And sometimes sometimes it's just better to go knock the door open yourself versus kick it down. Yeah. Get your foot in the door. Absolutely. Now, if you can't get your foot in the door, you got to kick it down. Right. Right. You just got to get in there and tell them who you are and what you want to do. Yeah. Right. Fantastic. You can't expect them to come to you sometimes. You got to go and show them who you are. The number one trait of billionaires is assertiveness. So hopefully I can be, you know, if I'm not a billionaire one day.

At least I can be assertive. want to, you know, talk about one more thing with you here. You've run 70 something marathons in last three years. You get to see a lot of different productions, a lot of different, you know, from small town to big town to New York City. Yeah. What do you think of today? This is great. I think for it being a cheap marathon, was a high quality experience, you know? And yeah, I like the out and back. It's nice to be able to pass the competition, quote unquote, like the people who running with you, because for most marathon

you're

kind of just facing forward the whole time. There was not much of a crowd, so it's nice that you're passing people because then at least you can cheer them on. And that's why I want to encourage everyone listening and watching. You can be that person. You can smile at people. You can wave. can say War Eagle if they're wearing an Auburn hat, Go Dogs, Georgia hat, whatever team it is. I'm not a football fan whatsoever. But it's just these little things because to me it means nothing. To them, it pulls them out of the cave. And you can do that.

don't have to be a social media creator. You don't have to be a public personality to be an influence at your local race, at whatever marathon you're running. You just gotta be friendly. Just smile. A smile goes a long way. And it doesn't cost you any extra energy, but it gives you so much. And so I think that's what it looks like to live a beautiful life. It's the things that don't really cost anything outside of just caring for others. Right. But then it fills you with energy, joy, love. That's what I run on on this marathon.

I love what you said. You just see something on the hat. You don't even have to be a fan. Yeah, but like go dogs, right? I love when I run a race in New York City last year. I'd see people with New Hampshire, New England, New England connection or Boston Bruins hat run into Megan while waiting in line to do something and she's like, I'm you know, run Diz Megan or something and she had a Bruins hat on. We're just talking about the bees. It was just incredible. And you see someone like that. You just it pumps their tires, man. The coolest part is like, yes, put your name big on your bib.

Yeah. I saw somebody today just wearing a shirt that just said Rob. Let's go Rob. That's all I said. was like, yeah, Rob, go Rob. So it makes me laugh. makes him happy. Like that's the goal. That's the human connection. Like at the end of the day, cause you'll see people that are in a cave or a mile 22 and all it takes is just a tap on the shoulder or like, you know, giving them the knuckles or whatever it bump. Fist bump. Did anybody see Project Hail Mary? Sorry. Continue. Fist bump. Well that physical, that physical contact like literally it's

It's

all it is is tapping someone's shoulder. It just reminds them like, oh, I'm here. There's people with me. I'm human. Like, all right, I'm back in it. And like, you'll hear people, they're like, man, thank you for that. Like, that really helped. What? I tapped someone on their shoulder. That's nothing. But if it pulls them out of the cave, that's everything. You know, that could make or break a race. So, Amy. Just a little high fives I got from you today. That helped, like, infinitely. It also slowed you down from your PR. Not really. Oh, not really. No, no. She got arrested by No, no, no, no. She arrested me.

me going because I was in the pain game way before that so just gave a little pep in the step. Yeah. I'm so pumped that we got this connection. I'm glad you guys could finally meet. I know. the greatest hug in the world at New York. Yeah. I mean, what were the chances like you were on the right side? We're on the right side of the road. I was on the right level of the bridge and because you got three waves and they all go different ways. Yeah. You were only on the one section that my weight was in.

Tracker in your shoes. Yeah One of the best hugs ever yeah, like just like right before the whole crowd in the party you kicked it off Let's go. I the presence you have man. Keep it up. Keep doing the good things guys. Thank you I think we should end this episode right now We still have to record the trolls for Tuesday's episode, which everyone listening now already knows our guest two days ago
