Hello, hello my beautiful friends, and welcome back to Your Total Glow. I'm so happy and grateful that you are here with me. And today I would like to talk about something that I believe almost everyone experiences or everyone experiences at some point in their lives. I truly think so. And that is cravings. Yep, we're gonna talk about those moments where suddenly you want something, and not just anything, but something very specific like chocolate or something salty, something crunchy, something sweet, and it has to be right now. And often the conversation around cravings sounds something like, oh, I have no willpower, I just need more discipline. I shouldn't want this. But I believe that this is not empowering and not helpful at all. And I look at cravings very differently, and so does Ayurveda. So instead of judging cravings, I would like for you to think about them more compassionately. And I would like to invite you to ask one empowering question. What is the body trying to communicate? Because truth is that most cravings are not a lack of discipline. They are a message. Okay, but before we dive right in, here's a gentle note. This podcast is shared for educational and inspirational purposes only. It is not a substitute for medical or therapeutic advice. So please seek personalized support from a qualified professional if you need it. That said, let's talk about cravings, shall we? So you know, I hope you know that your body is incredibly intelligent, it's so wise, and it constantly sends signals about what it needs. And sometimes those signals show up as hunger or fatigue or restlessness, and sometimes, yep, you guessed it, they show up as cravings. So the real question is not why am I so weak? The real question is what might my body be asking for right now? And this is where Ayurveda introduces one of the most important concepts in the entire system, and that is Agni, our digestive fire. And yeah, I've spoken about Agni and the digestive fire before. And I've also mentioned that I also like to think of Agni as your inner healing intelligence. So it is so much more than digestion. Agni truly is your inner intelligence that knows how to transform life into nourishment. So it is that beautiful intelligence that digests food, yes, but also that digests experiences, that digests emotions. So you could almost think of Agni as the inner wisdom that constantly tries to bring the body back into balance. And when this Agni is balanced, that wisdom functions beautifully. We are able to digest our foods very well and we feel satisfied after meals and our energy feels stable and our mind feels clear. Perfect life scenario. However, when our acni becomes disturbed, that inner wisdom starts to let's say struggle a little bit. And if acni becomes too low, digestion becomes sluggish. So this might mean that we feel heavy or bloated or foggy or maybe emotionally stuck somehow. And it might also mean that we crave comfort foods. And on the other end of the scale, if your acne becomes too high or too intense, then your system can become overheated. And this may show up in irritability, or that you feel hungry all the time, ravenous, or maybe you feel impatient, and you might crave stimulating foods like sugar, salt, or caffeine. And if acne becomes irregular, which very often happens with stress or overwhelm, then your body doesn't know when nourishment is coming. So it starts asking for quick energy. And that often shows up as cravings. And I also like to imagine Agni like the flame under a cooking pot. So when the same this same flame is steady and balanced, the food in the pot cooks beautifully. Everything transforms into nourishment. But if the flame is too weak, the food just sits there half cooked. And if the flame is wildly fluctuating, very strong one moment and almost out the next, nothing cooks properly either. So our digestion works exactly the same way. When your acne is steady, you will feel nourished and satisfied, and life just flows and you with it. However, when your acne is unstable, your body keeps asking for more input. And not because you lack discipline, but because your nourishment never fully landed. I would love to talk about the three types of cravings. So when a craving appears, it usually belongs to one of these following three categories. So category number one is energy. So we're talking about energy cravings here. And these happen when your body simply needs fuel. Maybe you skipped a meal, or maybe your lunch was too small, or maybe your blood sugar dropped. So your body is asking you for quick energy, often in the form of sugar or carbohydrates. And the solution here is very simple. I'm inviting you to eat more regularly and to eat truly nourishing and balanced meals. Okay, so that was category number one. And category number two is nervous system cravings. And these happen when your body feels overwhelmed, tired, or emotionally stretched. And these cravings aren't asking just for food. What they're asking for is regulation. So your body might be asking for rest or more grounding or comfort or a pause. So sometimes the chocolate is not the real need. The real need might be a moment to breathe. Okay. And then category number three are emotional cravings. And these cravings often appear when we feel bored or lonely or stressed or stuck or angry or sad. And food then becomes a moment of comfort or stimulation. And again, this is not weakness at all. It's your body trying to shift emotional energy. And the key here is awareness. So when you pause and recognize the type of craving that you're experiencing, you suddenly have so much more choice, an empowered choice. And of course, I would also like to have a look at the dosha patterns of cravings. Because of course, the different doshas influence the kinds of cravings that we are experiencing. So let's have a look at vata cravings. Vata cravings show up as very quick, impulsive kind of cravings. And often you will crave sugar or a crunchy snack or caffeine. And they usually appear when you're tired or overstimulated or when you have skipped meals. And pitter cravings are very intense. And often you will crave salty foods or spicy foods or chocolate. And they often appear when you're pushing too hard or when you're running on stress. And sometimes it doesn't stop at the one square of chocolate. Just saying. So you open the cupboard just to check what's there. And five minutes later, you're standing in the kitchen wondering how the entire snack situation escalated so very quickly. And if that has ever happened to you, please know you're in very good company here. And what about kuffer cravings? So kuffer cravings tend to be about comfort. So we are talking about creamy foods, sweet foods, and foods that are carb heavy. And these often show up when you feel emotionally heavy or bored or stuck. And food then becomes a way to create movement in an otherwise stagnant moment. And one thing that I noticed in my own life a few years ago was the following. And physiologically, that makes perfect sense. If the body feels deprived, it will start searching for nourishment more intensely. And when I began eating more regularly and started to truly nourish every level of me, my digestion, but also my body, my emotions, my mind, my life. Something surprising happened. Not so surprising to me anymore, but it was back then. My craving softened. And that wasn't through willpower. It happened through balance. And this is what I would like to invite you to this time. The next time a craving appears. Ask yourself three gentle questions. Number one, when did I last eat a proper meal? Number two, how stressed or how tired on a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest and ten being the highest, do I feel right now? And number three, what would truly nourish me in this moment? And you may still eat the chocolate, and that's okay. But you do it with awareness instead of judgment. And that changes everything. So if you notice that you have cravings more frequently, then I would like to invite you to begin by stabilizing your digestion. So for the next few days, try to eat warm, nourishing meals. Eat at regular times. Make sure that you include healthy fats and protein. And please, by all means, avoid skipping meals. And when your acne stabilizes, you will notice that your cravings calm down naturally. So there's no battle required. And one of the most beautiful shifts that I see in my clients and that I experienced in myself is the moment when cravings stop feeling like a battle. Instead, they become little messages. Or to listen, or to ask what I truly need right now. What you truly need right now. And when that relationship begins to grow, something wonderful happens. Your body stops shouting because your body finally feels hurt. And if you feel called to explore your digestion, nourishment, and energy on a deeper level, I would love to support you.
