• how to rebuild vitality in a way that is sustainable and deeply personal
This is not about discipline, restriction or pushing through.
It’s about working with your body instead of against it.

Hello and welcome back to your total glow. I'm so excited that you are here today. And today I have an interview with someone who is very special to me. So my guest is Katrina Gall. Trina. And I've known Trina for quite a while because Trina and I we became accountability coaches when we were studying to become health coaches. And we have stayed in contact ever since, and I had the absolute privilege to witness Katrina not only grow professionally but also to yeah, to witness some of her personal growth. And that was really, really beautiful and it's special to me. And yeah, here she is. So let me introduce her. Here's the amazing Trina. Katrina Gall is an identity and transformation coach. She also is a nutritionist, habit strategist, and business leader. And she helps women rebuild their energy, confidence, and sense of self after years of putting everyone else first. And her work is deeply rooted not only in knowledge, but in lived experience. Trina has navigated significant health challenges such as surgeries, burnout. She had a business ownership and she has completely built, rebuilt her life. And Trina really knows what it feels like to lose yourself, but she also knows what it takes to find your way home again. And today we are talking about identity, burnout, self-abandonment, and rebuilding your relationship with yourself and what it truly takes to create lasting transformation from the inside out. I am so excited to welcome you. Katrina, welcome. How are you? Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for that. Um, Ruth, it is such a pleasure being opposite you. This is this, I'm I'm honored, humbled, and privileged to be here with you. This means so much to me.
SPEAKER_00Who exactly? Hey, it's yeah, same to me. It's really beautiful. And I would like to not start with your achievements, even though there are so many, but I would really like for my audience to get to know the woman behind all the achievements. Who is Katrina Gall, the most difficult questions of all? But tell us a little bit about your journey. How did you lose yourself and how did you find your way back?
SPEAKER_01Well, the Katrina Gall now is a very different woman to the Katrina Gall, what, three years ago? I think three, four years ago. Um, my journey started uh probably childhood, of course, is um, you know, I had very uh high-achieving parents who uh their one of their biggest value was work hard. Um, and they installed that in us uh as kids. And that's a great butt, that's a great thing to do, but it installed a very uh driven, very high achieving, very high performing uh doe ever, whatever it takes to get things done. Woman or girl, so then went into my team, went into as a woman. So I created this person or this persona that uh you've got to work hard to make things happen, that um if you rested, it was weakness, um, in all of that kind of thing. And that really stemmed from very two workaholic parents. They were fantastic and I loved them to bits, but it's just what it was. So that installed, uh, you know, that I just carried that through to um all my life up until probably four years ago when I had to unravel all that. Um so you know, I've done 35 years in hospitality, uh, and one of the things I wanted to do was I became a chef and I wanted to own my own restaurant cafe uh food business of some sort. Um and so I did do that and uh eight years of running that uh through COVID uh and the aftermath of COVID.
SPEAKER_00May I just and may I just add, and she did this super successfully. Important to have.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was a very thriving business and not only again that hyper, hyper um achieving person when when the cafe ran beautifully, what did she do? COVID came along. Oh, let's just build another shop and do a wine bar, you know. So it was just when something was going well, let's elevate it, let's move on to the next thing. Um, so it created it, it create it was a beast in itself. Um and I didn't see the person I was, I just saw the business as it was. I really and I just kind of worked through everything. Um so a couple of years after COVID, I had a hell uh so things just kind of went from there. And the universe or the higher power, whatever we want to call it, uh started sending me little rocks and then big rocks and then boulders and then a wall, and then the wall didn't even I didn't even listen to the wall, so it became right, you're this is this is this is what we have to do to stop you. So um, and then the then the journey began to um rebuild my whole body. So I my journey was it, I stopped uh due to a health issue, and then I had to completely rebuild myself. So and that then became a different journey of unraveling all of this childhood um self-sabotage, self um even worth, you know, your your hot your whole worth is put on what you do and success. And so I had to unravel what success meant and what worthiness meant and what health meant, and it became this whole world that I'd never experienced before, and then unraveling that was to be honest, one of the most beautiful, intense, and incredible journeys that I've been through. That part I would say would be the most enjoyable uh part um because I really got to know who I was underneath and what I actually wanted and the woman I am now you look at me from four years ago to where I stand now, and it's not just chalk and cheese, it's just it's so different.
SPEAKER_00Beautiful, I love it. The journey coming back home to yourself. So I feel that so many of my listeners can relate with this, and I also personally feel we are always on this journey of more and more unraveling, and I also agree, I think it's just the most intense and sometimes painful but also beautiful journey ever, and obviously, you have so much courage for doing it, and of course, you did it the Trina way, so you did it with lots of intensity, um but yeah, it also really really allowed you to find or to understand yourself to see yourself in a different way. So if you were describing the old Trina, obviously you already said you were um really trying to perform and achieve and the outward success, and you didn't allow yourself rest and recovery and all of these things. But if you would just describe this old version and the neutrina in a few words, so that my audience can just really feel the difference and what's out there if you are allowing yourself to yeah, go deeper and go on this journey.
SPEAKER_01Totally. That whole saying of chaos to calm. So I was I lived in my head. Now I live in my heart. Another one thing that I I I I've noticed a lot now is that my heart jumps, my heart goes into the room before my body. So I feel I feel everything now. I I allow myself to feel everything. Before I lived in my head, I lived in this this life of chaos and and I couldn't, I couldn't get my words out because I just lived in my head so much. Now I I I've I've I've transferred that to living in my heart and I feel things. I really, I really kind of move to my body. I'm extremely calm now. Like I just I move differently, I speak differently, I'm softer in every part of my my being.
SPEAKER_00I I absolutely agree. It shows also in in your whole face. It's beautiful, yeah. Uh thank you so much for summing that up. So for me, it sounds like you truly being present now, and obviously, when we are present, then we can feel the joy and the love and really be with our surroundings and with the people, and what a gift you are, what a gift that you gave to yourself and that you are now passing on to others. So let's talk about this. How do you help others to navigate that journey? Because it's one thing to do it yourself, and then it's a whole different thing to help others through this journey of transformation and yeah, unraveling all of those stories and conditioning and self-limiting beliefs. Yeah, talk about that. That that would be wonderful.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, look, it's so interesting because we know we know in ourselves, we really in when we actually understand we know ourselves. So for me, I really start, I work with women, and we we we we I work with them to the point where they understand and they start getting aware of what they do and how they do things, and it's awareness first. And then they when they start getting aware of you know how they walk, how they talk, how they how they move, how they how they think, how you know, it's it's all of it. And then when they under start understanding that and then talking it through, then we work on they come up with the answers. They're the ones that you know know, they're innate. We are so we know what we need, we know what we don't need. We just need um when someone actually uh makes us aware of our our habits, our situation, and then we work through with energy and you know, like it's just uh it's more of a beautiful relationship um and a connection, and so they get connected to who they actually are, and then when they find that, then we grow that to empower themselves.
SPEAKER_00I love that, and it sounds very very aligned to my work, what I do. So you are helping your clients, your beautiful woman that you're working with, to really see and feel that disconnection and then reconnect with themselves. So, from my experience, often these people or these women are already very overwhelmed by everything. So, how do you help them to navigate this journey without the overwhelm? And what role plays nutrition in there? Um, so I'm sure you make it really delicious. I'm asking because for me, nutrition is everything, not just the food, so also the emotions and um every experience, everything that we take in with our um vision, or what we hear, what we feel, and um yeah, I feel that you probably have a very special way of navigating this coming in this journey as a chef and nutritionist, and also coming back to the overwhelm, I would assume that it's not about ticking off certain rules or things to do. So just bring us into your world there a little bit more into how does it truly look and feel like to work with you in those realms.
SPEAKER_01So it's really interesting because I'm a big believer of there's not one like our our our transformation or our our body is not one center. It's nutrition, it's it's it's movement, it's it's your soul. Um, so we we can't have one without the other. So connecting those dots with and that mind, body, soul scenario, you really have to bring both all the three together. Um what comes first, mindset, nutrition or or soul set? I can't haven't worked that one out. However, nutrition is like like you say, the most or one of the most important things. And I've learned that from experience. I've played with food for a long, long time with digestion issues. Um, when I was very sick, um, I had to heal myself with food. So um I've played with food for a long, long time when it comes to food and healing. My biggest thing is food is nourishment opposed to the rules and regulations. Um, and I did last year, I did a year of 52 habits in 52 weeks. So I did change a lot of my foods, and I was at the beginning of the year, I was very okay. I I would like to remove this, this, this, and this out of my body, da-da-da-da-da. But that was purely because um I wanted to, I guess, and it wasn't about willpower, it was more about how habits create your life. And I was kind of like, oh, I'll do this, I'll do that. And so this was a way to remove anything and everything from me that I wanted to do. From that, I really, really noticed how what nourished me and what didn't by by keeping things really simple. And now I'm very simple when it comes to foods. Uh, I'm very aware of what I put in my body, and I, because of my chef background, I make everything really simple but beautiful. And that's in a way of when I when I put it on the plate, I make it look beautiful to enjoy the food. Uh, when I'm cooking, I kind of I don't just cook now for the sake of cooking. I don't do it commercially anymore, which is great. But now I it's like I I spend the time, I I get my quality ingredients. We go to the farmer's market each week. So I'm really particular on what I eat and then how I prepare it. Um, a lot of it now is all slow cooked, like I don't use high heat. Um, I make sure it's it's it's cooked for a longer. Um, and I make sure that um things like stew, yeah, you know, like making it more connected to each other. So the veggies are connected to the protein, the protein's connected to the to to the the carbs. So it's not like you know, um that's that's that, you know, meat three meat and veg. We uh I make it more of a of a connection. So food is connected on the plate to connect in the body, and it's actually more simple than what it looks. We I think we overcomplicate food and to simplify it is it's actually very easy.
SPEAKER_00That's so idiotic.
SPEAKER_01Nourishing, it's more nourishing than than anything else. Like I just since since I left the cafe and I had to I had to heal my body. Like you and I work together, you taught me quite a lot with the Arovedic, but I've taken on a lot of like um a lot of uh chef way. Um and I don't cook high heat anymore. I I um I just make sure I'm buying the right stuff, like the farmers might now I'm in the city, I've got the opportunity for that before I didn't, but um it's just been really again going back to that awareness and choosing better choices because I want. food to fuel me, not just to eat it now. And that whether that's come from being so sick that that's the only way I could build build my immune system and my whole body up. You know, it it that that has a lot to do with how and why I eat. And so now I just I teach people things very simple, not overcomplicated. So it's not one of those overwhelming things that they have to do. Um and then and and really simplify.
SPEAKER_00I love that.
SPEAKER_01Don't be harsh.
SPEAKER_00There are so many juicy things in what you said. So I love how you explained that you connect the food on the plate so that you can connect with it. I loved how you spoke about this awareness piece again. So to obviously choose the food with awareness to eat the food with awareness. I also absolutely loved how you um spoke about the relationship because this is exactly what I believe too and I yeah I truly think it's true that the way we relate to ourselves and the way we relate to life is the way how we relate to everything else. So it's the way how we relate to food and it's the way how we eat it's the way how we train it's the way how we think how we do really everything. So I heard you saying this and I think this is so so powerful. And yeah again what you described is super Ayurvedic um without you obviously having studied Ayurveda and this is why I love Ayurveda so much.
SPEAKER_01You don't have to study it it's just so profound and it's truly all about yeah coming back to yourself coming back to the basics being present becoming aware I love that yeah so so beautiful and I also think you're absolutely right that we overcomplicate food and everything else our lives everything it's it's going the other way yeah beautiful and it's just a typical example of and you've known me for a long time and you and we've worked you I've actually worked with you which um was one of the one of the things of changing a lot of things has helped me uh move to where I am now but a typical example of um of I used to be a triathlete I used to I ran I I cycled from Brisbane to Sydney it was all go go go go um I was I was times I was this I was that and um when I opened the sh the cafe all of that stopped um and now I've gone back to running which I've always loved but this time extremely different. So this time I'm running and I've just started and I will be back and um it was a girlfriend that said let's do the 21k which is here and I was like I'm not sure about that because I'm not there. Anyway I said all right I'll do it because we're doing it together. But this time I've done it very differently so no times no no no plan no no nothing just run to feel to be honest and each week I just do an extra K or you know just whatever however the body goes I am 10 years older I'm running better than I ever have I feel like I'm just running on air and I'm not trying I'm not I'm not pushing I'm actually like I'm doing a running meditation at the same time so I'm really calm um and things are easy because I'm not putting any pressure on myself and I'm enjoying it.
SPEAKER_00Beautiful yeah just very different. So again what I'm hearing is that you are no longer driven by this voice okay I have to succeed and I have to perform but you actually have dropped in and are doing what you love in a way that works for you instead of overdoing over pushing so you're really listening to what your body needs and how your body wants to do this journey which is so beautiful and of course then the experience is very very different. So I can imagine then my audience now want pieces of that too because there's nothing more beautiful than really connecting inward again and dropping all of those outward voices and it's also not that easy.
SPEAKER_01So I would love to hear what does a day in your life look like or if it's easier are there certain rituals that you really love and certain non-negotiables that really allow you to anchor yourself again and again because I don't know maybe it's different for you but I know for myself that there are certain triggers that bring those old layers and identities out and maybe in the most unexpected moments and for me having my anchors is really really helpful it's everything honestly I um I remember you you when I was working with you and you said you know get a morning ritual or afternoon you know evening ritual and when I was living in absolute chaos and I'm like I don't even know how to do this like it's this is impossible to do this like okay all right I'm gonna I'm gonna work on this so my morning ritual is and it's a beautiful like if I can go back to where I was so if the ex the the person living in chaos the the the cafe the business um uh the four o'clock text of a staff member saying we can't come in uh which would be a five o'clock start so um I'm um I'm awake I'm I'm I'm getting ready I'm going to work straight away didn't have my clothes out didn't have didn't have nothing organized whatsoever because I'm going to bed exhausted mind done that type of thing cortisol levels for me in the morning was just absolutely nuts now my evening is I make sure I I do breath work or meditation without a doubt before I go to bed it is uh non-negotiable it brings my it brings my body into calibration I guess you could call it um I've done a little bit of heart math which is the heart heart um heart mind um uh breath work uh which is the coherence which is just stunning um so that is a and then I journal so I usually do a little bit of journey I love writing it's it's just I I get as soon as I get down and I write a blog or write it's just it's now becoming part of my being now so it gets everything out of my head I get to sleep and I sleep extremely well very deep extremely well I don't think there's a night that I have not slept well like I put everything aside and that's where I go. So in the morning um my husband and I like he gets up his that his alarm goes on and I have 10 minutes where I do breath work on my own and then he gets he we have this special uh concoction in the morning he makes it by the time I'm come out we sit we have our breakfast he goes to work and an hour later you know like that's a like an hour and it's like calm we've connected which in a way that you know like it sets our morning where it's really nice and chilled and calm he goes to work and then I I can sometimes I'll go to the gym go go the run you know I'll do it I'll do some sort of movement.
SPEAKER_00Yeah beautiful thank you so much for sharing sorry I've got a little bit of a connection issue so sorry for interrupting sometimes there's a delay so I thought you were already done did you want to um add something to this no no perfect okay so I absolutely love how you shared it because it didn't sound overwhelming.
SPEAKER_01It's like really those beautiful anchors that you have picked and that work for you and I would assume you help your women to do exactly the same to pick the anchors that fit into their life without being overwhelming and yeah that truly truly allow them to relax and breathe out however if you're working with someone and they are still in this very chaotic state of hide and flight and doing and they can't imagine to sit down and breathe and they can't imagine to meditate and I was absolutely one of those people so I have all the compassion I totally know how that feels how do you help them what what how do you navigate that one step at a time so I lived that I I there was no way I would never meditate when I was living in chaos there's no way I you know like when I was doing that I was like it was it was one thing at a time so um it was working out their nervous system and what they needed in this present moment. So and finding for them what can work. So for me meditation breath work was is my go-to it's my anchor it's so if I get that overwhelming or anxious or whatever my heart starts I know that that I need to breathe it's it's it's become innate in me. But when we're in chaos and when we're in overwhelm and burnout and we don't know what our nervous system needs it's because we're not we're not aware of it we don't even know it's out there so it's finding what they need for them for their nervous system and it could be it could be it's it's a softer approach it could be journaling it could be breath work it could be going for a walk it could be having a bath it could be it could be anything that that works for them in their current lifestyle but it's also making them aware that it's a need awesome like this is finding that time and it's the need uh for somewhere in their space because it's the one thing that can help them move to their next level and it's just slowly doing these next levels. So once we get to this point of their nervous system and they and and they can they can actually breathe apost to I I just don't even know where to go. And then if we find something that works for them then we bring that into their lives and then we find them into letting them feel it and bringing that as in a as a I don't really call it a like I now don't like the word habit I I like the word I like it's more of a like let's infiltrate this into your lifestyle. Okay ritual and yeah ritual yeah yeah and then it's okay getting that through helping them working with them keeping them accountable so that they can then move to the then you know the next level so that we can move their nervous system again and again and once we keep moving it uh moving the dial um they eventually can start breathing they can eventually start being softer they can eventually start finding more ways to nurture themselves once they start feeling the differences in their life they then start opening up to more of that opposed to more of chaos and overwhelming I was kind of like a it's coming out of that space and into that space but again it's awareness because most women don't even know how to get there. So it's finding what works for them.
SPEAKER_00And I would even say most people have forgotten or can't remember anymore how good they are actually built to feel so if you can't access this anymore and if your reality is this whole fighting and overwhelm and chaos all the time it is really really hard to yeah make your navigate your way through this and you know see the light. So I think what you're doing is very very beautiful and very powerful obviously you help your clients to see the blind spots you help them to navigate the entire journey with them you hold them and you hold them accountable at the same time so all of this I think is super important and actually for everyone but especially for women because I do think there's still a conditioning within most of us that yeah puts everyone else first and ourselves behind. So when we are already then in this whole loop I think it's very very hard to navigate your way alone out of this so I think it's beautiful and also what you said before that yeah sometimes you know depending on where you're at it's just slowing down and doing whatever you usually do just slower so yeah beautiful so what do you wish you would have told your younger self or you could yeah when you were in the midst of all of that oh that's a really good question wow oh gosh if I could tell mys myself through that chaos and sickness and um oh well I would tell her everything is going to be okay you don't have to I would I would tell her that we push so much that I would say put yourself first find a way to put yourself first because the better you are the better everyone else around you is and I have always put other people first the business the family the the everything the friends everything became before me when I was tired I I still did social work or you know the the social the social outings um I did not put myself first at all and the other thing about I guess being a mum or being in hospitality or we're service we're service driven um we are designed to look after people so that's innate in I think in women in itself we're designed to look after people our kids our husband our house our this our that you know that we put ourselves last if I could tell my younger self is the better you are the better everyone else is so you do everything in your power to make yourself amazing and your life will be amazing. Beautiful amen to that a hundred percent and it truly is what we learn when we are going onto the plane and they say in an emergency you put your oxygen mask on first not onto your child first onto you because once you are no longer conscious you can't help anyone anymore and yet we really have to relearn that and again I can so relate to your journey and I feel probably 99% of every woman can.
SPEAKER_01Yeah thank you for that and it almost felt like you could feel this younger version of yourself I could almost feel you getting a little bit emotional as you yeah felt this this younger version of you who are trying so hard and fighting so hard and proving herself and working so hard and yeah so it's beautiful that this this the younger version of you and that she was allowed to go yeah and do you know what it's still nice to have that little part of her in me because I think what I'm really loving now is that I'm aware of her and when I see her pop up I feel like you know the trying the the shoulds the um I have to the you know I've worked through all of that to go you know what no um let's let's change the wording and let's change the energy around all of this because I don't have to yeah yes I have you know yes we we go to work we get to go to work we don't you know we we change what we do and then adding some joy to it which is something that I think in overwhelm and oh when you're in that that overwhelm and burnout and chaos space you lose the joy of life and of you we just lose us so finding her and then when it pops up again you go yep thank you very much I I I I know the tools now to nourish her opposite opposed to pushing her away.
SPEAKER_00I love that she'll always be part of us yeah yeah thank you so much for sharing this um because I also often hear the guilt in clients when you know parts of the old versions pop up and I I I think it is really really important to understand what you just said. They will probably always pop up, yeah, just in different ways than they used to, and that's okay. And what I heard you saying was, okay, you then give that version a hug and give her a beautiful warm broth or what she needs in this moment, maybe um a meditation, or maybe she needs a little run, and um, instead of just trying to yeah, push it away or not acknowledging that these parts are still there, I absolutely love it. Oh, I could talk with you forever. I think we have to have another conversation where we chat more. But is there something you wish that I had asked you today and I haven't?
SPEAKER_01Oh gosh. I just think that we we as women, we put we put the pressure on ourselves. So I used to say have a saying when I was traveling in my 20s that um life is easy, we make it hard. And now I um and then of course I made life hard myself. And that whole saying, there was a few things that you know I never understood of be kind to yourself because I'd be like, what does that mean? You know, because I was in that whole high achieving, you know, how do you, you know, I'm kind to myself, I'm I'm exercising, I'm da-da-da-da-da. And now I really understand those sayings of being kind to yourself, um, softly, softly, um, slow down to speed up, all of those um metaphors or or quotes. Um, and that one big one is the mirror. Like now I look at things and I go, okay, what is this teaching me? And what are you teaching me? So if I get a a um, you know a reaction I don't like from myself, the first thing I say now is what is this teaching me? What what are you teaching me? What what's this friction here? And what what am I? What's it in me? So I'm really starting to understand the inner world. Um, and it's making my outer world a lot softer, um, because I'm not so harsh on me, and then I just go, well, okay, I've great, I've I've learned the lesson. Um, and it's so it's all of those cliches, those be kind to yourself. I never understood it. Now I do because we don't put ourselves first, yeah. But when we do, we are so much better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, beautiful. Hallelujah to that. And yeah, what I heard you saying is that you know, just hearing the theory, it didn't click for you until you, through your own journey, truly embodied all of this, and now you are not only embodying it, but you're passing it on, which is just so beautiful, and I so thank you for that. And yes, I agree also that when something triggers us or when we react in a way, we're like, Oh, where did this come from? That it's just beautiful if we can instead of you know making ourselves bad or wrong, just ask with curiosity, okay? So, hmm, interesting. And this in itself is a whole new journey or yeah, version of living life, I fear. But it's okay, we can all be a beautiful piece of progress. Is that is that how it goes?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I've got a long way to go. Do you know what I mean? We've got and I don't, and that's the beauty of a journey. There's never an end, you know. Like, but it's just beautiful to know that I'm a big believer, I just think that it's awareness. Once we are starting to be aware, then we can actually, I guess, work out what's works for us, and then we then we find what works, and then we we grow that.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely, so true. Where can people find you? Where can the women who are listening to this and are saying, Oh, I want to work with Trina, I need Trina, my life, where can they find you?
SPEAKER_01So um, you can check out my website, and that's Katrina G coaching. And then all my all my um uh handles are all Katrina G coaching. So Instagram, Facebook, uh, X now, which is Twitter, or all yeah, so all of it's Katrina G Coaching.
SPEAKER_00Awesome, and of course, I will put all of this in the show notes. It's been so special to have you on. Thank you for everything that you do. Thank you for being this light, thank you for trusting yourself, and yeah, you are amazing. I love you, thank you for coming on, just keep glowing, beautiful. You're amazing.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, my love. Like we've come a long way, and uh, I just can't thank you for your beautiful coaching and and helped me turn my corner, so you know, without you, I wouldn't be here.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. Thank you so much for being here. I really hope you enjoyed this conversation with Trina, and please check out her offerings, she is absolutely amazing.
