[00:00:00] Welcome back to my YouTube channel Guys or podcast. Of course, if you are listening over there, today's topic is all about how to romanticize the summer at the time of recording this. It is May middle of May-ish here in Denver, and it's just already getting so hot. We've been close to record high temperatures, which is a little concerning, and also I realize that I'm just not meant for cold weather or any weather extremes.
Super cold. As I've gotten older, winter, the depths of winter just doesn't appeal to me, and then super hot, like above 85 doesn't suit me either. So I'm realizing I might be a Cali girl deep down. But before we go completely off topic, I have 10 ways for you to romanticize the summer season. The warmer weather, everything that that brings, some of these will cost a little bit of money, but a lot of them are just going to be zing up things that you already do, which is really what romanticizing is all about.
It's not about having these grand displays of things that really put you out [00:01:00] financially or going so far out of your typical routine that it ends up becoming more of a burden. It's about taking what you already do and making it just a little bit sweeter. That is the essence of romanticizing. So let's get into it.
Number one is Dewey makeup. I have been deep in a rabbit hole on TikTok. I. Typically, I'm just a post and ghoster over there, meaning that I post my stuff that I need to for business, and then I get off the app because I just don't wanna get stuck in a rabbit hole. But I have been on the algorithm somehow, luckily for dewy makeup, glowy makeup looks, and that kind of stuff is so fun for me now.
I have tended to lean that way anyway, I like a more matte finish, meaning where it doesn't have a lot of sheen or shine during the winter months, the colder months. And then I like to go more for that dewy, glowy look in the warmer months. Probably because I'm gonna be sweating anyway, so let's just get into it, right?
Why don't we make it look like it's on purpose and it just has that fresh, lighter [00:02:00] feeling. So I'm gonna be linking the products that I typically use down in the show notes, wherever you are listening or watching this. But I do love super goop. Sunscreen their sheen, I think it's called glow screen.
Yes, it is their glow screen. But any type of tinted sunscreen, which also brings me to make sure you wear your sunscreen, is going to give you that glowy feel. So I put that on the base. I do like a highlighter on the cheekbones and on my eyelids. I keep it really simple. My makeup in general, I'm more of a.
A clean quote, unquote makeup kind of girl, but everyone's going to, their features are gonna pop with different types of makeup, right? If you have a lot of contrast, meaning you have lighter skin and darker hair, then typically having more makeup. Tends to make one look more vibrant, and knowing your color, your seasonal color can really help with this.
I had mine done. You can go look at my first YouTube video or one of the first ones and see my color analysis. I was a light summer, amite [00:03:00] summer, so my makeup, what works for me will be a little bit different from what works for you, especially in terms of color, more likely. But I digress. I like to have.
A little bit of highlighter on my cheeks, on my eyelids. I like to just take my cream blush. Everything is more cream-based in the summer for this glowy, dewy look. So I take a cream blush, and then I apply a little bit of that on my eyeshadow, my eyelids. As well. Keep it just super light. The brows are a strong point and I may or may not add mascara depending on the vibe.
Again, just going for more of that light and airy look. I will link my favorites as I mentioned below, but absolutely make sure that the colors are suited to you.
Number two. This might seem very boring, but it is hot. Wearing sunscreen and protecting your skin is hot and I know that there's this whole movement, which I um, I won't really provide my input on that is anti sunscreen, and I will not be doing that. I wear my sunscreen every single day. I am very fair.
If [00:04:00] you're watching this on YouTube, you can see that I am. Irish skin I inherited from my father's side a ton of moles from my mom's side. So I got the best of both worlds. There's been skin cancer on one side of my family, so it's something that is top of mind for me. And honestly, I just burn super easily and it's really unenjoyable.
So love me some sunscreen. And you can make this a cute thing, right? Like I mentioned in the previous step, the glow screen by supergroup. I love it. It doubles as a makeup primer. Putting that underneath, giving you that really nice sheen. So great. I look better while I'm protecting my skin. I'm doing some research on the best mineral sunscreens to use, so.
TBD on that, absolutely. Follow me over on Instagram if this is something that you want to be kept abreast of, because I will be posting those over there. And I'm also on the hunt for a better body sunscreen that doesn't make me wanna jump in the shower as soon as I put it on, but wearing that sunscreen, but also sun protection can look really cute with Sunhats.
I just ordered [00:05:00] a sunhat from Madewell that I'm excited to see. Hopefully if it fits, I have a huge head. Typically, hats don't fit me, but it's a straw bucket hat type of vibe. So again, come on over to Instagram. I will link that in the show notes in case you wanna see it, but I can't vouch for it quite yet.
Get yourself a sunhat. Wear that sunscreen and make protecting your skin hot again. Let's do that this summer.
Number three is make hydration fun. I love to ju up, spice up my beverages. I'm a beverage girl. I feel like all women just love beverages. We need like three or four at a time, depending on the vibe we're going for. We have our coffee, then we have something that's a little more juice forward, maybe with some fruit, and then we have.
Water. We need to have it all right. Maybe you're having a little bit of wine at the same time, you just never really know what's gonna happen. Okay, so for me, when it comes to drinking my water, I like to add some frozen fruit in there, maybe put some herbs. At the same time, I like to add sparkling water to give some bubbles.
Kombucha as a topper, big fan of that. Just gives more flavor and [00:06:00] also gives a little bit more of that carbonation. Elements, which are my favorite electrolytes. Those are really wonderful to add, again, for flavor, and I love salt, so adding a little bit more salt in there as well. I. Absolutely talk with your doctor if you're unsure about your sodium levels, but by and large, make your hydration, especially if you struggle to drink your water and it's just not appealing to you.
I personally love water, but I love even more making it feel special throughout the day with things like frozen blueberries, frozen raspberries, add a little bit of rosemary in there, some mint, whatever combo I'm feeling at the moment, top with some sparkling water or some kombucha. And suddenly I feel like I'm at a resort rather than behind my desk working.
The fourth way to romanticize the summer is, this one really is a game changer. It's to freeze coffee if you're a coffee gal, or even if you're a matcha gal, which I personally don't resonate with. Freeze the leftovers into ice cubes. So if you're making matcha, I don't really know how that whole process works.
Just pour some [00:07:00] extra of the water, of the tea, whatever the heck that looks like into a cube tray. For me, that is decaf coffee. I just pour, make a pot, decaf coffee, pour it into a tray with the large ice cubes. Again, I'll link this in the notes so that it feels almost like a cocktail. Those big like old fashioned cubes, and I like to put my iced coffee drink in an actual cocktail glass, then I top it with some iced coffee, again, decaf.
For me personally for you that might be cold brew, whatever it is. And then put my milk of choice, which is typically almond milk for me on top, it is just chef's kiss. It makes it feel so special again in the afternoon. I love it so much to judge up my typical workday that might feel boring. But no, no, we're romanticizing.
The fifth way to romanticize the summer season is to take up an outdoor hobby, as I mentioned, I am not a super hot weather gal, so getting outside during the day when it is peak heat is not always the most appealing [00:08:00] thing, especially when I'm trying to protect my skin. But there is something that just elicits so much joy, true childlike joy when I'm outside.
Playing a sport or engaging in some type of hobby. And for you, that might not be a physical activity, it might be painting. My friend was just telling me she bought a bunch of watercolors to be painting out on the balcony outside. Beautiful. Whatever it is. If it's reading a book outside, reading your s smarty novel, I love that for you.
For me, I've really taken up pickleball with a lot of my friends. It's an approachable sport, if we wanna call it that for a lot of people. Wide variety of ages tend to be able to play. And it's not as hard on my joints as something like tennis is, although I'm so down to get into tennis as well. I like to go hit balls during the summer.
I'm a very, very average golfer, but anything that gets me outside in nature, in the elements, bonus points, if it is with other people for that connection time as well.
The sixth way to romanticize the summer season is dinner parties. I [00:09:00] wish so badly that I had a home where I could actually host more people myself. That is something that I don't have at the moment, but I am more than willing to help with planning, and preparing and doing all the things with my friends who do have homes where they can host.
I gladly take upon the responsibility of co-host. So if you are in that position, just know that it is possible for you to engage in this as well. And sometimes people just need someone to start the fire and say, Hey, this is the idea, this is what we're doing, get the ball rolling, and they're happy to host the party.
Everyone is ready to socialize once the winter is over. Once we're in spring right now, leading into summer, people are ready to go after being cooped up. Take advantage of this opportunity for connection, for sitting outside, for enjoying seasonal food. It's really a beautiful opportunity to connect, and I think that's the biggest thing that people often are missing these days as.
The rates of loneliness have skyrocketed. This is not [00:10:00] unfamiliar to any of us, and not to go down a complete tangent, but we can romanticize this ability to connect with one another as the weather warms up by making it really special. If you are someone like me who thrives off creativity, then bring the details into the dinner party.
My friend always makes a signature cocktail for every dinner party that she hosts. Make your favorite foods. Make the dish that you typically wouldn't be making for dinner, although I would argue that should be part of your routine if you're trying to romanticize your day-to-day life. Make it special in the smallest of ways.
Again, you don't have to go breaking the bank, but the small details with dinner parties and just hosting and bringing people together will absolutely make you feel like you are taking advantage of the season in a really beautiful, feminine, soft way.
Number seven, early morning hot girl walks, which is hopefully cool. Girl walks. Before the UV index is super high, so we're not getting sun burned out there. And I know the sunrise is so early in the summer. I typically am not up out on a walk already by the time the sun is rising, [00:11:00] unfortunately. ' cause that tends to be like five 15 and I prefer to have a slower morning these days.
But I do make a point to get up and get moving and have that morning walk every single day, and especially in the summer, there's something so lovely before. It becomes ungodly hot in the middle of the day of getting a solid hour in. That's what I aim for. Of walking my dog, of taking in the scene around me saying Good morning to people having a lovely beverage in hand.
If that's not coffee for you, maybe it's your special water which is up, or maybe it's your matcha. Make it a ritual every morning where you are connecting with nature, which is so good for the nervous system. You're looking at the people around you. If you see your neighbors out on a walk saying, good morning, and you're connecting with yourself, I'm a big fan of what I call.
Raw dog walks, meaning you're raw dog in it. You're not bringing technology and having input in your ear all the time. So try it without having music, without having a podcast to listen to really take in your surroundings and take it as an [00:12:00] opportunity to connect with yourself while enjoying that beautiful beverage you have in hand.
And maybe even that light sunrise.
The eighth way to romanticize this summer, and this might seem silly, but I'm telling you, you want to have a water bottle that is specific to the season. We all wanna keep our beverages cold, right? We don't want our ice melting overnight. So this is a Stanley. Yes, basic as we come right now. I got this last summer I had a darker color I decided to get a lighter color for summer, and it truly made me so much happier.
Just the smallest little upgrade and joy looking at this water bottle. I was so excited to drink my water out of it. I ended up gifting one to a friend, another one that I keep by my bed. That was a. Light lavender color again, so beautiful. We're twins now and again. It just brings so much joy and this is what the romanticizing is all about, is the small little details, and this is an investment.
Of course, these things are not cheap. I sure you can [00:13:00] find some knockoff versions on Amazon. I will link the specific two that I have in the show notes, but again, it's the small details. The small little things. I just ordered some larger mason jars to drink my smoothies out of because that was in desperate need of an upgrade, just drinking it out of the blender bottle for so long.
But again, it's that small little subtle shift. So consider if you're able to investing in a water bottle that is more seasonal. That is brighter, that is lighter. That makes you feel joy when you look at it and makes you excited to drink your special water out of.
Number nine is a go-to sundress, and this will look different for everybody, right? Everyone's body tips are different, everyone's sense of style is different as it should be. For me personally, I'm almost five 11. I'm very tall and I prefer a mini. If I'm in a maxi dress, it's just too much fabric, too long.
I'm so tall, it's overwhelming. And also I just find them really hot. The mid length I, the mid [00:14:00] length dresses and skirts. Those are tough. I think on a lot of people, myself included. I don't find them flattering on me at all. So I work with my long legs and I rock a mini dress. Now, it is a challenge for me with my height to find some that are long enough.
They tend to be super, super short, but I did after two years of waiting. I am a quality over quantity gal when it comes to close 100%, so I sat on this investment. I do consider it an investment for two years before I invested in a realization par, and I'll link it in the, the notes below their sundress, which I've had my eye on for so long, and I got it in the mail.
It is absolutely stunning. This. A hundred percent silk dress and it lays in such a flattering way. I may show it over on Instagram if you wanna go check it out, but again, it'll be linked below. Invest in a dress. I'm rocking them up maybe one every single year. So now I have two undresses that I absolutely love and I'm picky.
I don't just want a [00:15:00] bunch of crap in my closet. So I want, I have two dresses now that I feel really, really good in, and I would encourage you to not just do the ones that you feel like, okay, this is good enough. At least I have something to wear. Of course, if you have nothing to wear all summer, you wanna have something.
I understand that. But consider waiting. Pausing and focusing on getting the dress that makes you feel like a 10, where you're like, okay, this is a classic style. This is something that I will wear for years to come. I feel so hot in it. It's comfortable. It suits my body today. Important not the body that I had 10 years ago or that I planned to have tomorrow.
Make yourself feel beautiful. By buying something that actually suits you today, your sense of style, not what's trendy, and watch yourself come alive. Every time you look at that dress. Every time I see the dress now in my closet, I get excited and now I can't wait to wear it. I've already worn it. Of course.
And lastly, the 10th and final way to romanticize the summer is seasonal eating. And I would add tack on seasonal movement onto this [00:16:00] too, but seasonal eating, focus on, and you don't have to be rigid about this, but foods that are more in season, it's a great opportunity to shake up your routine, especially if you're somebody who tends to just eat the same thing every single day.
More on autopilot. Use this as an opportunity to be more intuitive. To really challenge. Maybe you've gotten a little bit rigid with the way you've been eating, so what are some seasonal fruits and vegetables that you can partake in? What is your body naturally craving? me, when the weather warms up, I notice a significant shift in my appetite in the types of foods that I'm craving.
During the winter months, I don't tend to crave much fruit at all, but the minute the temperatures start to rise, I'm craving melon, water-based fruits. I love plums and nectarines grapes. Tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, things that are just lighter. I tend to crave leaner meats. This is not something I'm consciously doing.
It's just lighter foods sound so much more appealing to me. Whereas in the fall and winter, I tend to crave the more rich foods, the fattier foods, the warmer [00:17:00] foods, I do often tend to feel better when foods are cooked versus when they are raw. But there's something about that seasonal shift where my digestion.
Tends to do okay with eating a lot more raw veggies, and the fruits of course, not in excess. But play around with this for yourself and see what tickles your fancy. Maybe instead of having a bunch of squash and sweet potato, you start having a little bit more rice. Maybe you're having some actual potato.
Maybe you're having fruits instead. Maybe instead of having ribeyes and stews and stewed meats, maybe you're having white fish. Maybe you're grilling chicken outside more often. Maybe you're having more shrimp. Just see what calls to you, but also have fun enjoying the produce and the foods that only come around once a year.
And I know a lot of grocery stores these days, they're available year round, but things like rhubarb during the spring and asparagus and peas, and then the tomatoes are so much better. In the summer, and honestly, zucchini, I'm a little overwhelmed by zucchini by the [00:18:00] middle of summer, but every time it rolls around, I get excited about having it.
It just tastes so much better. So see what jives with you. Of course, you don't have to do anything that doesn't actually feel good to you. And then when it comes to seasonal movement, typically. Our natural instinct is to be doing stuff outside more often. A lot of people tend to lean a little bit more towards cardio based movement versus lifting in a gym, but do whatever you want.
Whatever feels good to you. But if you are feeling the call towards getting out of a traditional gym and gym classes and getting outside in nature more, maybe hikes, running long walks, whatever that looks like, lean into it. Uh, remember that not everything needs to look the same all the time. And in fact, what we would call periodizing can be advantageous for any goals that you have, whether that is performance goals, changing your body health.
Not everything needs to be the same all the time. So if you're going through periods of just maintaining muscle mass versus actively trying to build muscle all the time, that can be a beautiful break for your mind and your body while you increase your [00:19:00] cardio capacity. I. As an example, but lean into what feels good to you right now when it comes to seasonal eating and seasonal movement, and you really can't go wrong.
There are so many more ways that you can spice up the warmer months, but these are simple things that you can take action on and have some fun with right away. And as I mentioned at the beginning, everything will be linked in the notes below in one post so that you can go ahead and take advantage of some of the products that I love if you aren't interested.
Of course. And if you want to work on your relationship with food. Changing your body, learning more about how your body works. I have a ton of free and a couple of paid resources in the notes that you can check out as well, and I'll see you guys in the next video.
