Hello, welcome or welcome back to this podcast. I am your host, Nia, and this is a Keep It Clean podcast where we talk about keeping it clean, keeping your mind clean, keeping your body clean, keeping your space clean, keeping your spirit clean. I will say before we start this podcast episode that this was recorded October, September for the first time, and we had to re-record it three times before we got what we have today because of some technical difficulties. So enjoy. Hello, welcome back to this podcast. Today I am joined by a friend of mine, and we're going to be talking about just things to do in your free time that are productive and are growing you as a person. Hello, I would um he said he'd like to introduce himself, so I will let him introduce himself.
SPEAKER_02Okay, hello everyone who is listening to this. My name is Kwame, and it's a pleasure being here.
SPEAKER_00Hi Kwame, it's such a pleasure to just have you on the podcast. I'm glad knowing that I don't know. I think podcasts are better when it's like people who know each other, you know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, that's true, because then you know conversations are never ending.
SPEAKER_00True. Um, seeing as we're talking about like hobbies and things to do like that are productive. Do you have any hobbies yourself?
SPEAKER_02Yes, I have quite a few hobbies. There's like baking. Baking is like gonna be number one forever. I've been doing it for like years now, and then there's chess. I love playing chess that I started recently. Then there's um uh learning more, just gaining information on literally anything sometimes, and yeah, and that includes like a whole separate category is learning about God. It's very interesting too. Theology is something I've always loved.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I completely agree with you on like the baking part, because I also really love baking. Matter of fact, I think I was baking yes, yeah, I baked the day before yesterday, and then the cake was over this morning, so I felt bad, and I think I'll have to bake some more. But yeah, I completely agree with theology too, because it's something I've been studying a bit more, and it's so important to know how to defend your faith, and that's definitely something that can come into play as a young Christian.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it is, and even just like knowing that no matter how many times you've read the Bible, each and every time you look back at it, there's always one thing to learn, and when you read a verse and then you see something else, and you're like, What? And you're like, Oh my goodness, how did I not see that earlier? And it's like, oh my gosh, that's when that moment hits, it's always amazing, and that's what makes you makes you go back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. There's always something new to learn, and I remember there's a time um at church, I must have been like six or seven, we were learning John 3.16, and John 3.16 is probably the most common verse in the entire world, and we were like, Okay, why are we learning a verse that we already know like everything about? We've learned it every single Christmas for like four years, like it's it's kind of terrible. It well, it wasn't terrible, it was just like why? And I remember the teacher being like, There's always something new to learn, and that day our teacher decided to like break it up into Hebrew, and she took it from like its original language, and I was like, There's so much more to learn, and I think there's so much value that comes in knowing that there's not only in the Bible but everything in life, there's always more to learn than you already know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's always something new. Even our pastor, like when you're at a camp, he said he read it again, and he was like, What? And then you realize the context. Like, you know, sometimes when you read a verse and it's like just you've just read it, and you know the way there's like meaning, then there's context, and I think context is something that's not often understood, like who it's meant for. Like the verse could be meant for us as people as people in general, but like a few verses, like the whole book of Philippians is meant to the people of not Philippines, I forgot what it's called, and you realize that the verse, rejoice always, and again I say rejoice, is not for those who are, it's not for everyone. I mean it's mainly meant for when Paul wrote it, he was actually trying to tell the people who have been going through a tough time that you should keep on rejoicing and even keep going through that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. It's so um amazing to look at the context, um, especially of the Bible, and not only that, but it can really grow you as a person and not only just the Bible growing you, your hobbies in general. Because I have okay, one of my hobbies is also like baking, and I think it's really helped me because I've learned like acts of service, and definitely the Bi the Bible has like influenced that, but for me, baking has always been like, oh, I've learned acts of service from that, and when I look at some of the context in the Bible, I'm like, oh, Jesus served, so I'm gonna love serving.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, service is something that's really important.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, and that is actually one of the topics we're supposed to cover today. Just serving others in your free time, because I think sometimes we so much like rely on I don't know, going onto our phones or just watching something. And I'm not gonna lie, I did the exact same thing. Reels is very, very addictive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's it's it's a bit too addictive. Instagram needs to relax with the reels.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Like I remember um because this is our technically like the second time recording, and I remember on the first recording you were saying that like Instagram should have a um a momentarily like deleted or something. So from it for like from like this time to this time, Instagram is deleted and then it comes back up at this time, but it probably won't help the Instagram like creators and stuff because they won't have as much money and they wouldn't be able to like make as much money.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, yeah, it's it can't work. We just need to do it out of self-control. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00True, but self-control, not gonna lie, is a process, it's very, very much a process, and it takes time and it takes also just like a bit more um effort than you'd expect. But anyway, um I was talking about how important it is to self serve others with your time, and I wanted to ask, what are some things you do to serve others?
SPEAKER_02Um, what are some things I do? Well, um at church, I think that's one place I really like serving. They have this new program where um teens they allow teens to help serve in the church, so that's one way I like serving, and also um, yeah, so what do I do? I kind of like make small groups at church for the teens, and then they're gonna be having fellowship and bonding with each other, and yeah, so that's one way I serve at the church, and also um I charge the same church. Um, I'm locker. I play chess, but with like counselors that on every other Saturday, you can go and play chess, but everyone there is like below the age of 10. So I find it kind of like my I feel obliged to become just a younger person to kind of supervise the children who are there because you know, if like all the all the counselors are like watching and supervising how the games are going on, and I am above like all of their levels, not don't mean to brag, but yeah, so I could just like I kind of help and help the counselors make sure what's supposed to be happening is happening. Yeah, those are a few ways I serve, and I find it useful to serve in the church, yeah. That's that's my view.
SPEAKER_00Definitely, because um I think something I really admire about you is that you make sure even when you're serving others, it's like you know your own personality and then you're serving others from that. Because Kwame is an extrovert, full on. Like the first time I met him, like, oh, this person is an extrovert. Like he was so talkative. And I think it's it just really comes into play, especially because if you're an extrovert, that means you're able to like not necessarily make more friends, but you're able to interact with people more freely, I guess. And just the fact that you're able to put people together and use that gift that God has given you to just bring people together and make sure that they're having fun in the house of the Lord is so beautiful. And at the same time, it's just it's about like, yes, you might want to create a whole new entire hobby, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's important to be like, okay, what's my personality? How am I gonna make sure that it aligns with God's purpose for me and what I can do to serve the community?
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, like you know the way the extroverts and introverts, I think, no, I know that God wants us to um spread his word, but he doesn't mean be exactly like he says you should be like Jesus, and in that I agree. But in the way that you are made is with your personality, that is how you should serve. Like I, as you said, I'm an extrovert, so I'm able to like talk to talk easier and I'm just like very social and I'm very loud. So that could be one way God wants me to spread his word. Yeah. So it doesn't mean you change to be like someone, like change your personality or try to be someone else um because your pastor is a certain way, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think it's just so important as a person to be like, oh, okay, just because my leaders are like this and my pastor is like this, and my pastor is, I don't know, maybe he specifically likes like chess and stuff, or your parents like chess. You don't also have to do that, right? Exactly. You can try and make sure that okay, what I'm doing, like I said earlier, what you're doing is aligning with God's purpose for your life, which means by default that you are serving others, and I just I find it to be so beautiful, especially the whole chess part, because I remember for me for a long time I was kind of in the same thing, because I had this group I was in, it was like a singing and acting group, and that was like 2019, 2020, and I was the oldest there, and everyone else was like seven, six, seven, but regardless, every single week I'd go because it was just so beautiful to hang out with people who are not only like older than me, but also who are like younger than me, and that always just made my day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, I could tell. Even when I met you, I could tell you're an extrovert. Yeah, I could really see that in you.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. Being an extrovert is I think for me it's really made sure that many of my hobbies and the things I like to do in my free time have a lot to do with people. Like I like going out, I like going for walks, I like seeing people. I remember during COVID, um, I think first month of lockdown, I just couldn't. I genuinely could not. And I asked my dad to take me on a car ride, and I just like looked at people and I people watched. I couldn't talk to anyone, um but I people watched and I was around people, so I was more than happy. And um, yeah, definitely, like you said earlier, I am jumping right back into the topic we just covered, but like you said earlier, it's so important to make sure that you're giving back to the community and you're serving in church, and giving back to the community does not necessarily mean it has to be like in church. For me, I'm learning that serving can be, oh, hey Amari, how have you been? What's been going on? By the way, Amari is my younger brother, and I'll be like, Oh, hi, how have you been? What's been going on? Do you need me to help you with like some schoolwork, some homework? Do you need me to make for you a snack? Like the smallest things, I think that's what God really looks at.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Yeah, but like just being a good person in general, like like checking up on your friend and being like, Oh, hi, how are you? How have you been feeling? Yeah, yeah. It's much deeper than one would think.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. It's it's a very beautiful thing to have with your friends, because I remember yesterday, I won't lie, yesterday was not like the most amazing day, and I was talking to a friend of mine, and we were talking for like maybe two or three hours, and I was just so glad to know that there was someone who was genuinely there for me, even though it wasn't a terrible day, but it wasn't like, oh, it was such a great day. It was like quite mid, and I was glad to know that I had friends around me who just were supporting me, and that's why it's so important to serve your community and serve those who are like around you. And even though I know I'm Christian, I do believe that like what you do unto other people is what other people will do unto you.
SPEAKER_02Hmm, yeah. In fact, the Bible says do to others as you would like done to you. I think, I think I'm close. Am I right?
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, you are. Yeah, doing to others as you'd like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's why it's also important that you surround yourself with friends who will actually care for you. And well, that's why you need to be careful who you become friends with, because when you go through a tough time, you really need people who are also gonna take care of you if you're going through a tough time, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And I think um something also to do, and I remember last recording you talked about this, is that like one of your hobbies can be like being around your friends. That's a hobby, that's something you like to do, and that's a great to have. And besides it just being like the base, you know, the way people are like, Oh, yeah, I'm on a call with my friend or I'm talking to my friend. There's so much you can do on calls, you can literally play chess online, you can do a whole entire escape room online, you can decide to plan an outing, go somewhere, you can go for a walk, you can invite the person to your house, or you go to their house, and you're strengthening your um friendships in your meantime and in your free time. Sorry, and it's just a very beautiful thing to have.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, like honestly, going out with friends. Ugh, if you can actually just like go co invite a bunch of friends, like the time we went bowling at Westgate, I had so much fun. Yeah, so those are the things I truly appreciate. Like just laughing and bonding and fellowship and swallowship with others, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, ooh, okay. So I'm gonna just give a bit of context. So Kwame, me, Ushi, uh, Biko, and okay, those are just like me and a couple other of my friends, and Kwame's and I'm friends, because I think there's some people I hadn't met before, but yeah, so Kwame's and I is like friends. We decided to like plan an outing. Biko planned it, his older brother planned all planned all of it because I was like not I'm not like the best planner, I will say, especially. He planned well. Yeah, he did pretty good because I'm good with planning, but not for like events with friends, because then I'm like, what? And my mind immediately times out. So yeah, we'd gone out to Westgate and it was a lot of fun. We did some bowling, we went out, had some food, and yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was a lot of fun, and it was pizza. Like, could you ask for anything more that is better than that? Like pizza, best food ever.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I'm not gonna lie, yeah. I like pizza, but I'm not like in love with it, sadly, because we're having holidays.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, no, no, I'm not taking it. Nope.
SPEAKER_00I am so sorry.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What what do you prefer?
SPEAKER_00What do I prefer? I don't know. I like um I like um Indian food a lot. Oh my lord. Yeah, I really like Indian food. I don't know, I don't like it's not that I don't like it necessarily, um, but I'm not like in love with it. Both I'm not a fast food person, not gonna lie. So my lord, that's so cool. I'd be like really grateful, but that's about where it ends for me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's I I I love I love I love food. Food eating is something I can do endlessly.
SPEAKER_00I think it's also so important. Um I don't know, to just re make sure that like your free time. I've been trying to do this with my meals where it's not just like the normal things I'd make in the morning, and I'm trying to be more explorative. That's a terrible word to use, Nia, but it's still a word. But yeah, that's what I've been trying to do with um food, even in the morning, especially during breakfast, because normally I'm doing like the same thing every single day. It's like either a sandwich or like um yeah, it's normally like a sandwich or pancakes or something like that. And it's not necessarily bad, but maybe I could like try and make a food bowl, and that's just so great, because I'm improving on this hobby slash thing I like doing, and I'm learning something new.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, I I didn't hear what you said. Can you please repeat?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I was saying that especially when it comes to food, I think it's so important to make sure that you're just I don't know, like being a bit more experimental with like the foods you're eating or like the foods you're making. For me, it's more like the foods I'm making. Because normally for breakfast I'll have like the normal either like a sandwich or pancakes or cereal. And I've just thank you, thank you very much. But I've just been like, okay, maybe I can grow it a bit, you know? And I've been trying to do it a bit more in the mornings and like, oh, maybe I can make some French toast, or maybe I can decide to make waffles. And yes, it takes a lot more time, like a lot, a lot more time, but it's only something I genuinely like doing, and either way, I don't do way too much in the morning.
SPEAKER_02Well, uh, I personally, you see, the thing is I always struggle making such foods because you know, uh my problem sometimes is with patience, like my patience levels are like really low. So uh there was actually a time that I did this, like I refused to put it in the microwave. Like the food was looking amazing, so I just like ate it cold. But that was one time, don't worry, I don't do that anymore. I'm more professional, but and also that's why uh you see pancakes when they're made for you, uh that's when they're best, but when you have to make them, it's kind of you know, yeah. So but you need to be careful with how you eat as well because gluttony is something that can mess you up, honestly. Gluttony is ooh, we yeah, yeah, you need to be careful, but it's also good to experiment with foods as you are saying. Like, um, instead of me getting a smoothie, I want no, instead of me getting mango juice, I once got apple juice, and yeah, it was a good choice, but still mango is the best, yeah. Just saying, just saying, sorry.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I know this. I don't think okay. This is episode is about to turn into me being like, what mango juice? Yes. Oh my lord, it's so odd.
SPEAKER_02How dare you! Mango juice is like the best, like how sweet it is, how thick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, agree to disagree. But um, yeah, let me wait. Okay, yeah, sorry, my mind timed out for a second. But um, yeah, it's just so important to make sure that yes, you're expect like experimenting on new recipes. And pancakes, I will agree. Um, I normally don't make them. It's like my dad, 99.9% of the time. So my dad will make them, and then I'm just there watching happily, giving him stories, and then at the end, I am very, very glad and I'm very pleased. Um, but I've been trying to also, I don't know, serve those around me because I normally don't cook more than once a week, and that once a week is like at most, and it's important for me to cook a bit more because I genuinely think I know the reels on TikTok and no the TikTok videos and like the reels say it, but food is a love language, like cooking for your parents and for your family is so important.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it is. I'm gonna be honest. I try to try. I really try to at least once in a while make something for the family. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I completely agree. Like it was I think it was last week that even I was like, oh Nia, you have to get your game back up because you're not trying hard enough and you can try harder. And I'm just glad that you've been trying because I am on that journey with you because it's generally not the easiest thing to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, I actually once wanted to be a chef, like Wallai, I loved cooking. And then slowly by slowly I lost interest. And then now I wanna be a baker. But cooking, I I mean, I don't love it, but it's there. And I appreciate cooking and food. Yeah. But I'll actually, I actually baked yesterday. So you see, the thing is sometimes instead of actually cooking something, well, my mom tells us to cook anyway. So we cook, I cook a lot of the times for like the whole household to eat. But also another way I do it is I just bake a cake and then yeah, yeah, and then everyone enjoys it. Like I baked yesterday, and there's actually cake in the oven right now. And yeah, so we're just slowly by slowly eating it. Dirty.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. To be honest, I genuinely want to like be adopted into your family because I love my family. Yeah, I love my family. But I make a cake.
SPEAKER_02Sorry for Amari.
SPEAKER_00You just abandoned my blood. I promise you I love him. But I'll make a cake on Friday, right? I bake a cake on Friday, and then after that, I'm like, you know what? I'll like make sure to give like every single person in the house like a cake. And then on Sunday it's done, which is like a pretty good amount. And then on Monday, they're like, we need more cake.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, by the way. You know us, we're like seven in the house, mostly sticks because my brother's out somewhere. So now us six people, and it's like a two kg cake. That cake, it doesn't even last, was it like two and a half days? Like two and a half days, it's gone. Caked in, empty, knife, no crumbs on it. None.
SPEAKER_00I think that's just like having younger siblings. That's that's just how life is.
SPEAKER_02By the way. By the way, it is you were saying something? No, you can continue.
SPEAKER_00Oh my lord. To be honest, I think it's so important to be like, okay, yeah. I mean, yes, sometimes it gets very annoying after you've done it so many times, and it's like same old, um, I'm baking. You finish it. You want more? I'm tired. But I don't know. I I like there's a part of me that's very odd, and I like baking even when I'm like extremely tired, and it's like a stress reliever. So, in some ways, I'm not only serving my family and stuff, but I'm also serving myself because I'm taking out my stress, Sash, what I'm going to do on a cake.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Yeah, sometimes when I bake, sometimes I just like choose to bake alone. Like when I'm at home alone, I just bake. And all the stress of all the school I've been doing, all the drama that's going on at school and everything. Yeah, you just bake and it like kind of just dissolves. So cake is kind of like a stress reliever for me. But then at uh other times my younger brothers wanna bake with me, so I just choose to be nice, but that's sometimes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think that's just um to be honest. I know for a very long time I hated it when my brother would bake with me. And then the other day my mom was like, Nia, you must bake with Amari. But yeah, I think it's great to just like bake with your siblings, and it's also like not I think um for I think for a very long time, um, not only me, but also my friends, because like I was talking to like a friend of mine yesterday, and we were talking about how when you're younger you think when God says, Oh, serve others, it's like serve your mom, serve your dad, serve your cousins and your aunties and your uncles and your friends and your guardians, but you don't think, What if maybe I should serve those who are younger than me? Maybe I should serve my younger sibling, right? Because we forget it so much.
SPEAKER_02Mmm, yeah, that's actually true. Oh yeah, like you're always like, Let me serve these people and these people, and they're like all your elders, and I mean serving your elders is right and it's uh righteous and godly, but you don't often think, let me let me serve my younger brothers, let me serve um the the the three-year-old who I see at church. Yeah, you don't often think about it like that. Well, exactly. What a revelation.
SPEAKER_00Also, like we also want to like talk about how many times have you seen someone go out of their way to like genuinely talk to someone who's younger than them, not a baby, like a cute two-year-old, one-year-old, three-year-old baby, but someone who's younger than them. Like the ages where it's like seven, eight, nine. There's so much you can learn from someone who's younger than you. There's that's true. Exactly. You can also learn a lot from someone who's older than you, of course. But there's something you can learn from someone who's younger than you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. Like, um, my friend was saying that. Uh, it was, I think, on the topic of envy, and my friend was saying how he has uh what did he say? His younger he told his his younger brother told him he was like, so the friend was envious about something, and the younger brother said, So are you gonna suck about it or are you gonna man up? Okay, now ignore the man part, but um the point is that has rung in his head every time he feels envious, I think. So I think just how they can tell you something, or even how God can speak to you through them, like yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think it's so important to be like, because even my brother the other day, I was literally just watching something, and he came up to me and he was like, Nia, shouldn't you be doing piano? And I was like, Well, I want to, but I'm kind of feeling a bit lazy. And I kid you not, this boy quoted a whole thing that I'd said in like one of the podcast episodes or something, and he was like, You're not tired because you have like you because you've done too much, you're tired because you're not doing enough of what makes you happy. And I'm like, Amari! Amari, are you quoting what I say? And I was like, Okay, okay, I see you, and then I went and like Oh wow, nice.
SPEAKER_02Your your your younger brother is gonna be a preacher one day.
SPEAKER_00For real. And there's also like so much you can do, especially you can impact them in so many ways, and they can impact you. And yeah, I think it's so amazing, and I think something we haven't talked about is serving, um like making sure that you're taking care of yourself in your free time, besides being on your phone and being on your tablet or your laptop or just like watching or something. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that. If that's your idea of taking care of yourself, do it, and I'm so proud of you, and that's amazing. But I don't know, it's nice to like be like, oh, I have free time. What can I do that makes me happy?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sometimes you also um you should think about yourself, but I was told just on Wednesday that there are you always come last. You should always think about first. Are you serving God in what you're doing? And then you think about uh how to serve others, and then you come and then yourself is last. Now you should serve yourself, but you should also be able to serve others, and that also ties with what you are saying earlier. Like, no, the last time we recorded, you said that sometimes you should just go check out or spend time with your younger sibling. Yeah, like just maybe like we have Lego blocks, so or puzzles. I would do a puzzle with my younger brother and just something like that. I'm sure he would appreciate it. Like, also, all the time he's normally saying that that um let's play a chess game. He knows how to play chess, so that's a flex. But uh yeah, so I even playing a chess game with him, but also you should be able to balance it out with serving yourself and just taking time to relax. Like now, even baking, that's one way I'd do it. Or like playing chess and then getting addicted. No, I'm kidding. Playing chess and just enjoying, yeah. Yeah, that's one way I'd like to like to uh enjoy my free time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Um, I think it just for me I've always thought about it as like God first, and then I don't put necessarily like people above me or like me above people. It's like love others as you love yourself, take care of others as you don't have to be.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, that's that's what I mean. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, that's like literally exactly what you said. I'm just like uh summarizing it, just a teen sepits. But yeah, and it's so important to be like, oh, you wanna play a game with your siblings? And I remember the other day, out of nowhere, my brother's like, Nia, I wanna go for a walk. And he was about to go alone, but I was like, nope, let's go together. And that was a lot of fun, and that was like a bonding experience. And not only does that like is that good for my me, I guess, because it's like really great for my spirit, because of how I don't know, it's so peaceful where I live, so I'm very grateful for that. So it's not only good for me, but it's also good for like my brother, because we're able to talk and we're able to bond, and also our relationship is just strengthened in that, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's important to have a strong relationship with your younger sibling, like also, because you know, one day they'll be eating a slice of pizza and then they give you a piece and they'll be like, You shared with me that time. Yeah, but that's not why you do it, you do it because it's the right thing and to also be a good sibling, yeah.
SPEAKER_00To be honest, sometimes I do it so that he does it for me too. But yeah, that's that's important too. That's important.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_00Because I remember like um, especially for Amari, I have to be so careful about like how I talk with him. Also, yeah, I wanna go into this. How are you supposed to like talk with younger kids versus how you're talking with older people? Because I think sometimes what people do is that they're talking to like um younger kids and they water down their words too much. And I mean, okay, yes, of course, there's like a couple topics you could talk about with maybe someone who's like 13, 14, 15 that you can't talk about with someone who's like seven, eight, nine. But who knows? You're trying to make sure that this is a learning experience not only for you, but also for them. So maybe you're gonna talk about I don't know. I'm thinking of a topic. Oh, yeah, let's think about that. Let's maybe you're gonna talk about like the effects of fast fashion because I talk about this with my younger cousin, and my younger cousin is like ten. Oh wow. Yeah, I like how we're able to Yeah, it's so cool because I'm like, damn, she's so smart. And yeah, I just like being able to talk to people who are younger than me and not necessarily just like water down the words and leave it like that and assume that, oh yeah, they're younger than me, they probably won't be as experienced, quote unquote experienced in life as I am when in reality we're all just trying to figure out like what's going on, and I think it's just amazing to make sure that not only are you like learning something from them, but you're making sure that they're learning something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, definitely. And also, yes, you should not say some things when they are present, but you should also just be able to talk. I mean, they are human beings, there's nothing to be afraid of. Well, I think, at least for me, and you should just be able to have a conversation. And yes, there are also sometimes you don't realize how much information they have, like just by how they speak and how they observe how we act, you don't realize like how much they would actually know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. To be honest, I'm learning that children tend to absorb much, much more information that than we do, so it would be like easier for a child to be like, Oh yeah, I heard that happening, and then they'll remember it immediately, opposed to us where it's like you already have some type of set priority list, so it's like okay, this is important, then this, then this, then this. So you might not just pay attention to the small things because it's like, oh, why would I be paying attention to that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. That's that's that's true.
SPEAKER_00To be honest, I feel like this episode has completely like not done a 360, but it's like um now it's more like serving others in your free time, and I really like that, and I think it's gonna be a really great topic. And yeah, I think we're coming to the end of this episode. Kwame, it was just amazing having you on as a guest.
SPEAKER_01A pleasure.
SPEAKER_00And I just definitely think this episode is about to be one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, by the way, uh, it's uh been a pleasure being here. I've loved the conversation. I yeah, I I like what you're doing as well, yeah. I think this whole podcast thing is amazing. Like, how many friends do you know? How many friends do I know who have actually started um digging into their interests? Like now this what you're doing is podcasts. So if you say you've always wanted to have a YouTube channel, and then you say I'm gonna start it when I'm like this age, but by the time you get there, sometimes you don't really want to because you're scared of what others will think. And that's why being a slave to fear is really not the best, and it should not do it should not be something that runs in your mind. I mean, if it if it is out of fear, it should not be done. I mean, there should be other better reasons. So what you're doing, not even being like this conversation went smoothly. It didn't sound like you're nervous and everything, and you've done like a bunch of episodes before, so like congrats, congrats by the way. Keep keep being the lights, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Thank you so much. Um I d oh my lord, that's really made me happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much. And I think we have come to the end of this episode. Is there anything you'd like to say to um everyone as we're leaving this episode?
SPEAKER_02Yes, listen to all the other episodes. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00Perfect, I love that. Anyway, God bless and goodbye, y'all. Goodbye. I just wanted to say a couple things as we're coming to the end. Um, yeah, thank you so much, Kwame, for your patience. I know it was crazy. We're recording almost three times, and I'd also just like to mention that there's something I had mentioned. I did believe last year in serving others and loving others as much as you love yourself. So as I'm getting to unpack that more, I'm learning to love others more than I love myself because I think that's one of the truest forms of love. But yeah, I really hope you enjoyed this episode. This is the Keep It Clean podcast. Um, if you want, if you want, but please do, please leave a review in the description or in like the review tab on Spotify.
