PROCESSING EMOTIONS

From my years of working in clinical and corporate settings, some of the most substantial roadblocks to development and growth are not dealing with the residual emotions of challenging events. Ignoring and shoving them away helps temporarily, but they come back with even more mite, and sometimes with such strength that they bowl us over. Unprocessed emotions can leave us staggered and stuck.

There are two effective ways of unclogging our mental pipes. The first is to talk to someone about our problems. But, unfortunately, there may be times when we have no one to turn to or don't want to talk to someone about what is troubling us.

Then the second option is to write out our thoughts and emotions on paper or a screen. The very act of translating abstract emotions into tangible words is where the cathartic process lies.
