Speaker 1:

You've made it to the Choose Joy podcast. Here we make a conscious effort to choose joy. Daily we allow ourselves to heal and grow into the path designed for us. Join me to unpack, affirm and choose joy. Hello, and welcome back, joyful babes. It's been a minute and I feel like I always start off these episodes lately by saying that, but it really has. It's like every time I want to I don't know every time I have a plan. God shows me that. You know what I mean. It's not my plan, it's his. So we're back. A lot has transpired since I last saw you guys. I've had some losses. I've had some gains. I'm sure a lot of you guys can say the same. Who am I? Dr Seuss, but let's get into it.

Speaker 1:

Episode nine we're calling this stuck or still, and I actually really wanted to call this dripper drowned, but I don't want gunna to sue me, so let's get into it. The basis of this episode is really just talking about how stillness is not stagnancy and just times in our life where it feels like we've hit a wall and, yeah, just how that looks like to us. Whether that's feeling stuck, feeling stagnant in your personal journey, whether that looks like you don't know what next steps to make. You don't know how to navigate. You're just at a standstill and I want to dive into that. One, what leads to that. Two, what it can feel like and what it may mean, and then, three, how to get out of that you know. So, first, what leads to that it's really burnout, and a lot of things can trigger burnout Dwelling on mistakes, taking on more than you can handle, letting others dictate what's best for you, heavy on that, comparing your progress to others. Remember that comparison is a thief of joy, and that is something that we'll talk a little bit more about on another episode. So, feeling guilty for taking breaks Don't feel guilty for taking a break.

Speaker 1:

Okay, slow down, slow down. A lot of these things can just feel, can lead you to feel like you're burnout. You have nothing left to give, and after all these years, I just think I don't have anything left to give. And I heard this quote about hitting a wall, and it says sometimes walls are there so that we can lean on them and rest right. So you have to really just be patient in becoming someone you've never been. You've never been this age before, you've never been in this particular place in your life. So you need to be patient with yourself and be patient with your growth and be patient with your progress. Everything is not a rushing process. My mom used to tell us this all the time growing up. It's not a Russian process. So slow down, okay, relax.

Speaker 1:

Whenever your life is feeling stagnant or as if nothing is happening. It just means that you're given the time and space to heal and release the baggage that you can't carry to where you're going. You're going places, babes. If nobody told you today, I'm gonna tell you. You're going places, and sometimes those things take time. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Patience is a virtue, a virtue that our society nowadays lacks. In a society of instant gratification, we don't like to wait, but there's peace in the waiting. You know what I'm saying? There's something good in that wait, in that wait period, and, of course, we dibble and dabble into the science of things, and rest will always feel like a risk to a nervous system that's used to chaos. If you are used to chaotic energy, always doing something, always getting into something, always onto the next project, you know what I'm saying. More concerned about the destination versus the journey, rest is gonna feel like a risk. Rest is gonna feel like something you shouldn't be doing, especially to a mind that believes that your value is defined by what you achieve. You are who you are. We literally just talked about that, the last episode being comfortable in who you are and knowing who you are and getting to know the root of what makes you you, what makes you tick, and if your value is attached to your achievements, what happens to when you're not doing anything? What happens to when you haven't met that goal yet and you're in the process of that, what does rest look like to you? And sometimes it just looks like just sitting down, taking a nap.

Speaker 1:

I feel like, especially in today's world, it's once everything falls into place you'll find peace. No, find your peace and then everything will fall into place. Simple as that. When you get so caught up in the where, when, how, all of the information, you lose value in the journey. If you're so focused on the destination, the destination, the destination you're missing the view. You're missing the view Like open your eyes, look around, appreciate where you're at, appreciate where you are and a lot of the times, I really just don't think that we're lost.

Speaker 1:

I think sometimes we're in a transitioning period and it may feel like you're lost, but you're just in an uncomfortable stage of your life where you're growing out of, maybe, an old version of yourself and you're trying to pursue something else in your life, something new, or you're embarking on a new level. You know, like a video game and it's just a weird limbo, and I feel like the best way to quote-unquote cope with that is to be comfortable in that, be comfortable in the stillness and not so focused on just jumping into the next thing. What's next? What's next? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Speaker 1:

Like no, every season serves its purpose and, honestly, all this talk about stillness and being comfortable with being uncomfortable honestly reminds me of a passage of scripture coming from first Kings 1911 through 13. This is the new King James version. Then he said go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord and behold, the Lord passed by in a great and strong wind, tore into the mountains and broke the rocks and pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in earthquake. And after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, a still small voice. So it was when Elijah heard it.

Speaker 1:

Silence and stillness doesn't always mean an activity. God doesn't need to be accompanied by the drama you know and all the antics. Sometimes it's just a still small voice to let you know that God is working and it might not be in the way that you thought or the way that you see it or how you think that things should develop or come to fruition, but that's life and, like I said previously and like I'll continue saying, every time serves its purpose. It's a time for everything. There's a time to be dramatic, there's a time to be loud and proud. There's a time for things to just be happening and things going on and big accomplishments and big achievements and the next big thing, and then there's also a time to chill out. There's also a time to rest. There's also a time to be patient in that planning.

Speaker 1:

When you plant a seed, you don't see the fruit that you planted the same day. You have to wait for it, you have to be patient, you have to till that ground, you have to work for it and sometimes you don't have to do anything, you just have to be still. I said that we would kind of talk about how to get out of that. Like I said, stillness is not stagnancy. So sometimes you feel stuck and it could just be that you're in transition, but other times maybe you do need to get out of that rut. Figuring things out involves putting yourself out there, try new things, learn from your mistakes, release the fear of just looking stupid and not knowing how to do things or failing, and allow yourself to try, allow yourself to learn and gradually improve. And whatever you set your mind to, it's about consistency and that 1%, which we've discussed before. But sometimes you don't have 100%, sometimes you only have 90, sometimes you only have 72, sometimes you only have one. But as long as you're putting the work in and continuing on this journey, is the small steps for it that count. Progress is progress is progress, and sometimes, sometimes progress can just look like being still, choose joy and be still.

Speaker 1:

And I know today's episode was a little short, but I do have something big coming for you guys next. You guys ask questions for my sisters and I and we answered and that will be featured on the next episode, hey, girl. So be on the lookout for that. I didn't really open the floor for any questions or the site for any comments or concerns for this episode. Just something quick, short to the point, what was on my heart for myself and my personal journey, and hopefully it has helped you all. Love you see on the next episode. I don't know why I keep saying see you, like I actually see y'all. But you know I'm saying you'll hear me on the next episode. Okay, bye guys.
