Speaker 1:

You've made it to the Choose Joy podcast. Here we make a conscious effort to choose joy. Daily we allow ourselves to heal and grow into the path designed for us. Join me to unpack, affirm and choose joy. Hello and welcome back, joyful Babes. We've made it to episode 16 and I just want to say welcome to fourth quarter, episode 16. And I just want to say welcome to fourth quarter. We literally have less than 90 days left to stay the course. So I'm just here to tell you now is not the time to ease off the gas, it's all full speed ahead.

Speaker 1:

Obviously, this is our second month in the Ember series and that's just when we take the time to prepare ourselves for the fall and winter months and everything that comes with that. And I had a thought the other day what's really the point of waiting for January 1st? Let's just start now, before the weather rolls in and holidays flood our minds. Let's just take the time to reflect on our original goals, like do you even remember your 2024 resolutions? And I, oh, we're even better. Let's just create new ones. And I know it's easier said than done, because usually around this time people like to hibernate. Okay, we like to be couch potatoes. Watch all our favorite holiday movies I mean, halloween's right around the corner and then I feel like time just hits fast forward Thanksgiving, christmas, new Year's it just keeps coming back to back to back to back. That takes place. Let's have a mental meeting with ourselves and figure out where our life is, where we want to go and what it takes to get there. So let's one create the blueprint and then we can start building the foundation.

Speaker 1:

When I think of setting goals for myself or laying out a plan, I like to hit on three specific points mental, physical and spiritual. I like to create goals and categorize them in each group. That way I feel like I'm hitting all the stops because ultimately, by hitting all three, you're making your whole self better. Like, okay, it's cool if you're eating right, but like, are you mentally stable? Okay, fine, you think that you are mentally stable, but like, what's your spirit man saying? You know, know what I'm saying. So I'm going to give you guys some examples that I have tried, or I am trying, or I want to try, going into this next season in preparation for steps ahead.

Speaker 1:

So, mentally, what comes to mind immediately is sleep scheduling, okay, making sure that we're getting in the bed at a reasonable time so that we can wake up earlier. You'd be amazed at how much you can get done in a day simply by just getting up earlier. A lot of us work, so sometimes getting up a little earlier in the morning can make your whole day a lot smoother, because you had more time to prepare yourself or maybe even meditate or pray or start your day off right. So definitely creating some type of sleep schedule and sticking to it, reading, reading is a big favorite of mine. I've always been a bit of a bookworm. So getting a new book, finding yourself reading at least 20 minutes a day, whether that's an article, whether that's a book of leisure train your eyes and your brain to really take in that process and learning something new.

Speaker 1:

Okay, lately I've been trying to step out of my comfort zone and either join new hobbies or tap into my creative spaces. So this past month I painted a canvas for the first time in ages, okay. And I picked up a new skill. If y'all have not checked out the website, your girl is a crochet queen. Okay, custom hats, custom clothing, is coming your way. If you're not tapped into the community, like what are you doing? Log into the website now wwwchoosejoycom. To wise, you already know the deal, and it doesn't always have to be something entrepreneurial. It can literally just be tapping into your creativity. Like I said, learning something, trying something that you've never done before, or dig deep into your past and things that may have made you happy as a child. Just do something with your hands. We all have our own special gifts and talents, so use them. If you don't use it, you'll lose it.

Speaker 1:

And next is physical. I've talked about this plenty of times, but mindful movement that kind of goes hand in hand with mentally too. So yoga, meditation, walking all those things actually improve your mental state as well, but it gets the job done. One of my goals for this season is 10K steps. Babes. I'm getting my walk on, honey. I'm walking. I'm taking the stairs. I'm getting it done. I'm closing the rings on my watch, honey. That is my little physical goal for these next three months. Okay, closing my rings, moving a certain amount a day to close them.

Speaker 1:

Calories. Getting exercise 30 minutes a day, whether that be walking, whether that be going to the gym and lifting, whether that be picking up a new class, anything trying to be active. Also, limiting my sugar intake okay, like my sugar intake, okay. Like I know my parasite is about to be real mad at me because I wanna lock it down, okay. And monitoring processed foods. You'd be amazed how just eliminating or decreasing how much processed foods you intake actually have on your mood, your sleeping and your mental state. Like, you're more likely to not have brain fog Thinking clearly is a big one and you don't feel so groggy in the morning. You're happy that God woke you up, okay, and you're ready for bed at the end of the day. So, and something that actually helps me with the physical part of it, especially when it comes to diet, is sometimes you're just thirsty, babes, sometimes you just need some water. So have a glass of water, okay. When in doubt, drink some water, okay. And then, lastly, but most importantly, spiritually Okay.

Speaker 1:

So journaling Y'all knew I was going to say it Journal, get that journal out, get that notes app out and really take the time to release but also express gratitude. Gratefulness plays such a huge role in this thing called life and, like I mentioned the last episode, I really wanted to hear from those of you that tried it, literally tried to wake up and write one thing that you're grateful for to start the day off and at the end, write another thing that you were grateful for at the end of your day. I had a few responses and I'm glad that it's working out for you guys, or that you tried it, and I want to hear more. You mean to tell me that nobody thankful, and I want to hear more. You mean to tell me that nobody thankful, nobody's grateful for the life that they're living, no one's happy that God gave them ears to listen, that you're even able to be hearing what I'm saying right now, like thank God.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I may not touch on it a lot on this platform or on this podcast, but God is the foundation, is at the center, and Proverbs 16 9 says we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. So why not talk to the mastermind himself while I'm laying out all the things that I want to do or what I want to accomplish? Make sure that it aligns with what he has set for you already and what his will is for your life. Make sure that it coincides, make sure that it meshes together and aligns. Make sure that you're in alignment with him, the author of your story, gabes, because you're just a co-host. Because you're just a co-host. God has a purpose for each and every one of us, a plan that he will see to completion.

Speaker 1:

But don't take all of this as an advice to not pursue your dreams or to assume that you're just in a grand scheme of things and you are a puppet on a string. That's not the case at all, because he also mentions in Proverbs 21, 5, the plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty only comes to poverty. Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. Okay, so I say all that to say he has all the answers. I'm not here to take y'all to church, but can I get an amen? The important takeaway is he's at the center of it all. Okay, okay, turn to your neighbor and say gratitude. A plan, prosperity.

Speaker 1:

We don't want to make this a seasonal process. Instead, let's look at this as getting a jumpstart to a mindset and tools that we'll be able to utilize for the rest of the year and in the beginning of the next. Really, let's just be creating a lifestyle. And, just in case you needed to hear it, you got this. You are capable of setting goals that you can surpass. You have the ability to do amazing things. You just have to start. We just have to start.

Speaker 1:

I want to remind everyone that this is a community. We are building a family, a group of individuals who want to choose joy in their lives daily. So let's share our progress and keep each other accountable. You don't have to share your specific goals if you don't have to, but let us know how it's working for you. Text us, send us a DM on our social media pages Choose Joy pod, and on Twitter and Instagram and wwwchoosejoycom. I've already plugged it, but let's just start now. What are we waiting for? Why would we slow down now? This is what sells tickets, okay. The last quarter of the game is what really turns it up, okay. So the work that we do now, or lack thereof, can shift the energy and the trajectory of the whole year. I know you're tired, I know it might get dark and I know it won't be easy, but the finish line is literally within reach. It's not how you start, it's how you finish. So let's finish strong, all or nothing.
