Kimberlyn: To jumpstart your year, we are coming to you every day this month with many bite sized episodes that are going to help you get reflecting on what's working and what's not in your parenting and productivity journey. Our goal with the series is to create momentum and spark creativity so that you can start your new year with clarity and intention.
Hey guys, I'm Kimberlyn and I'm coming to you with day one of our jump start your year series. Today I will be reflecting on the question. How do you start your day? And I wanted to start off just kind of telling you guys if you're coming in here of like, you want the perfect, you know, 10 step morning routine.
I'm not your girl. Let's just be honest with that. I if you really ask me about, like, my morning routine, I'm gonna say, while I have had times, like, in my year in my life where I have a little bit more of a structured routine, right now, honestly, my mornings are slow. That's kind of the only way I can really describe them right now is for this year.
And of course, things are kind of changing a little bit. My daughter, you know, we live here in the South in the Southern hemisphere. My daughter is in school from March to December. She is currently out of school. It's summer break. So things are kind of. kind of shifting. But for the most of this year, I got up later.
I want to say like 15, 20 minutes before we had to leave for school. Luckily she's at an age where, where I don't really have to like supervise that much in terms of like getting ready for school. I do have to, you know, make sure that she has her lunch packed and whatever and her snacks, but she, you know.
She gets her bag ready. She gets herself ready. So it's really given me kind of that freedom to wake up a little bit later to really prioritize my sleep. aNd I like to start the day off not from like a place of rush. I think I spent so many years of my life, like rushing to get out the door, rushing to do things, waking up late, rushing, rushing, rushing that I guess the season of life that we're in is really been.
Leaning into the slow mornings. So, like I said, like, I will literally during the year, right? I'm going to kind of, like, explain how things are kind of changing right now. And some, some shifts that maybe I will probably be making in January, February, but right now. So. During the year, she leaves, she starts school at 8.
So we leave home. She likes to get there early. So we leave home around, like, 730, 735 schools, like, 5, 10 minutes away. It's not far. There's not much traffic. So. I'm usually getting up at like 7, 7 10, 7 15 if I'm, you know, like super tired. And you know, I don't even like put on clothes. I basically throw on some shoes, like I'm pajamas on, I go drop her off at school and then I come back and that's kind of when my like morning routine quote unquote starts.
So I get home, you know, sometime a little bit before eight and I Make breakfast. It's the same thing every morning. I used to in the past like prep stuff for breakfast, but for the most part, I kind of like this routine that I've got where I fix breakfast in the morning. It just kind of this ritualistic time for me to, you know.
To make things with my hands. Not really. I mean, it's I'm not like meeting dough or anything like that. It's literally like 3 eggs, either scrambled or or fried and then I fix either some, either some sort of like oatmeal depending on the season or like cereal or right now I'm, I'm really into kefir, kefir, I'm not sure how you pronounce that one yogurt that I make myself.
And yeah, I, I like to sit down and actually like enjoy. My breakfast and take it slow and I don't like to be rushed and I actually I have this like process with my with my breakfast where I will sit down at the table. I will eat and I usually leave my coffee to after breakfast. And so my coffee is the time where I finished my breakfast.
I put my dishes away. And then I will try to go out if it's, you know, the weather is Is not terrible. I will go outside and sit hopefully in the sun read a book as I drink my coffee. And so that is, that's just like, the essence of my morning right now is very, very slow, very intentional, very just honestly, like.
I don't know if it's a rebellion or reaction to so many years of rushing, but I like to take my time. And I actually really hate it when people rush me especially, uh, in the morning in that period of time. So like from the eight to nine is, is kind of my breakfast and, you know, ritual time. I drink my coffee, I drink, I read book.
And, I just really try to focus on me and focus on slow and focus on not trying to knock things off my to do list too early. So that usually happens and around 9, 9 30 is usually when I will start actually getting work done. So I like this I like the slowness. I like the ritual of it, but I've noticed now as I'm moving into The summer, and I don't actually have that time that I have to get up.
I'm starting to realize I need to kind of create something, some type of, you know, obligation or some type of commitment to myself where it forces me to get up a little bit earlier because the way things are going. My daughter this morning woke up at 1130. I got out of bed probably somewhere like 930 10.
And, you know, There is, while I love sleeping in and I love my rest, I feel like something's got to change, right? Something's got to to give, to get me up in the morning. So I'm actually in the process right now of Of testing and seeing if I want to start going for a walk in the morning, or if I want to, you know, do Pilates in the morning, something kind of more exercise oriented before breakfast that will get me up and moving and I kind of, you know, help.
Jumpstart my day. This is mostly because like in the summer, it feels like the afternoon. I want to enjoy. It's sunny outside. There's just like so much to do that. I find myself in the past. Whereas I would work out, you know, 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon. It comes like, that time comes around and it's like, I don't really want to work out right now.
I want to do something else. I want to relax. I want to you know, just kind of enjoy the summer. So. I am thinking of kind of pushing that workout to earlier. One to prioritize it because I want to get it done is something that's very important to me. And I think that's, that's one thing at least for me is that starting your day off with something that feels good, right?
So whether that is like starting off slow or in this case, you know, maybe starting off with some type of exercise, some type of workout yoga. Something that will, you know, kind of jumpstart the day and and help me kind of hit that priority early on. So that's where I'm at right now. That's how I start my day.
I would love to know how you start off your day. You know, you can always hit us up on Instagram. That's either mine or Christina's, or the one that we have in common, which is at. thE village co-work I believe. Yes. The village dot co-work. And if you liked.
