Welcome back to Clearing On [00:01:00] Purpose. I'm Christina, and we're diving into our Momentum Month series. Today we're talking about the power of small wins. How they're not just nice to have, but absolutely essential for building the big, lasting change you're after. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by a big goal, or wondered if your tiny steps even matter, you're in the right place.
So grab your coffee, get comfy, And let's dig into it. Alright, so let's start here. I know that big goals can feel huge. Overwhelming. You want the transformation. You want that before and after moment. And it's easy to think that life works in these big, dramatic shifts.
But let's be real, life isn't a movie montage, and it's a journey. And the magic happens in those tiny, often overlooked moments. [00:02:00] That's why small wins are so powerful. They create momentum. When you accomplish something small, it's like a spark. It fuels you to keep going. They build confidence. Every time you succeed, even in a small way.
You've proved to yourself that you can do it. They're sustainable. A small, consistent habit is way more likely to stick than a massive overhaul of your life.
Personally, I come from a history of all or nothing. It was not uncommon, and honestly still today is not always that uncommon, for me to try and 180 shift all of my habits so it could look like I'm going to start prepping all my meals.
I'm going to get up at 5 a. m. I'm going to get my workout in. I'm going to do all the school stuff and [00:03:00] have all that planned out. I'm going to have all of my work stuff Three months ahead of time, planned out, ready to go. I'm going to be responding to all of my clients immediately. I'm going to create all of these family memories.
We're going to have all these spontaneous trips and activities and adventures. I'm going to do it all. And what I realized is that that kind of overhaul just doesn't typically happen. It doesn't stick. I probably can make it work for a week, maybe a couple of weeks, maybe even a month, but eventually it's going to just break away at me little by little.
And then I'm going to need a whole lot of rest to recuperate. from such a sudden switch. We have the capacity to go in as we're up leveling and trying new things and bringing new things into our life. We want to be able [00:04:00] to get to somebody's step 10 or somebody's step 20. And we think that we just want these big leaps, but in reality, a lot of times our nervous systems won't be able to handle that.
We don't have the systems in place. We don't have the experience. We don't have the habits and routines that are going to be able to support That level that quickly. So honestly, that journey is really important because as you're making these adjustments, you become more available for all the things that are coming in.
You've cleared the space. You have the energy. You have the habits and things that can go on maintenance while this other level of your life just accelerates so much. So what I've realized is that I need to focus on really breaking it down. And really trying to focus my energy and attention on those [00:05:00] smaller changes.
And just be able to get one area of my life done. So, for this month, as part of the Momentum Challenge, one of the things that I struggle with and have struggled with is meal prep and planning and groceries. It just seems like such a whole big thing. I want to make sure that I'm eating what I need to. I need to take into consideration my family's diets and preferences.
And have all of that and plan it all out and what activities we have and what's on sale and all of these different items that just come to become this overwhelming thing. But when I look at it and I break it down so instead of all of last year I basically was like I'm going to meal prep and I put it on my goal setting every week and there were some weeks I did really great.
And then it would be really terrible for a couple of months sometimes. What I realized is that I need to break it down into I'm going to really focus on making sure that I have [00:06:00] one item for me that's really healthy, has a lot of nutrition in it that I can make for lunch for me. And so for the first month, like this is what I'm focusing on.
I'll do all the other stuff, but my focus is going to be, I really want something that has the nutritional qualities that I'm desiring to incorporate more of and just make sure that I have that for lunch and have that prepped. So that I can have that for the week, and that way that's one less meal that I need to worry about.
Now that doesn't mean that I'm not feeding my children, it doesn't mean that I'm not worried about breakfast or about dinner, but those ones I'm allowing to have more flexibility. And I'm really honing in on this one area until that becomes routine, and that becomes easy, and then adding in those additional items.
Those tiny changes and really breaking it down is where I've actually seen more growth and the ability to be able to approach this thing that, again, [00:07:00] felt all consuming. This one area that just seemed to just take so much energy from me and drain me so much each week.
And break it down into smaller manageable chunks that I can really get ahead of, and then eventually all the pieces will come together.
how do we start turning these big overwhelming goals into small actionable steps? you can think of it like your goal is building a brick wall. I recently, read Will Smith's memoir and one of the stories that really perfectly illustrates this. As a kid, his dad asked him and his brother to build this giant brick wall.
And it felt impossible. But instead of focusing on the wall, they were told to focus on laying one perfect brick at a time. And he says you don't set out to build the biggest, baddest wall that's ever been built. You say, I'm going to lay this brick as [00:08:00] perfectly as a brick can be laid, and if you do that every single day, soon you'll have a wall.
So this huge wall that just felt absolutely impossible, his brother and him were able to do in 18 months or something, to be able to get It all builds by focusing on just laying the next brick. That's it. That's all you're doing is breaking your goal down. What is that next brick? Forget about the wall.
Forget about how much further you have. Forget about how impossible it seems and just focus on that next right action. So your bricks might look like this. Instead of write a book, commit to writing for 10 minutes a day. Instead of get fit, start with that five minute walk.
Instead of save 10, 000, see how you can put away 10 [00:09:00] this week. It's all about finding what's realistic and what's going to work for you. So you don't want to force yourself into habits that feel unnatural. If you're a night owl, don't schedule your creative work for 6 a. m. If you hate HIIT workouts, find something that feels better for your body.
Maybe a yoga or Pilates class. It's about aligning your actions with how you operate best, and then you want to continue to celebrate those small wins. And this is a part that a lot of people skip, and honestly, I find myself skipping this far too often, too. It's easy to focus on what's next and to overlook how far you've come.
But success isn't built overnight, and it's built by choosing yourself over and over and over again. So celebrate laying that next brick, celebrate showing up, even when it doesn't feel like enough. And trust [00:10:00] me, when you look back, those small wins will be the reason that you've built something incredible.
So here's your challenge for today. Pick one small, actionable step that you can take towards your goal and lay that next brick. When you're done, celebrate. Even if it's a quiet moment of gratitude or a little victory dance in your kitchen, mark the moment. And that's it for today. Small wins aren't just steps, they're a foundation of big lasting change.
focus on the next brick. And the wall will take care of itself. Thanks again for tuning in to Clearing On Purpose. If this episode resonated with you, please share it with a friend, leave a review, or let me know. Join us in the Momentum Month, share your wins, share what's going on.
