Welcome back to Clear and On Purpose. I'm Christina, your host, and today we're diving into a simple yet powerful practice that can transform your mindset, build resilience, and help you sustain momentum in your life. Gratitude. If you've ever struggled with staying positive, especially when things aren't going the way you'd like, then you want to listen up.
Gratitude isn't just a feel good practice. It has a profound impact on your brain and overall well being. Research has shown that practicing gratitude can increase happiness by 25 percent and reduce stress and depression. One study from the Greater Good Science [00:02:00] Center found that people who kept a gratitude journal for just three weeks felt significantly more optimistic about their lives.
Another study revealed that gratitude helps build emotional resilience. Allowing us to bounce back from setbacks more quickly. So why does this work? When you actively focus on what you're grateful for, your brain rewires itself to look for the positive. The shift in perspective helps you notice more opportunities, build better relationships, and create a sustainable sense of motivation.
So we've all heard that we should practice gratitude. But most of us aren't doing it. So let's talk about some simple ways that you could bring more gratitude into your daily life. If you're new to this practice, start small. So here's a few easy ways to integrate, integrate gratitude into your regular routine.
Start or end the day with three things you're grateful for. The more [00:03:00] specific you are, the more impactful this will be. Instead of just saying, I'm grateful for my family, try I'm grateful for the way my partner made me coffee this morning when I was rushing. Keep a gratitude journal. There are so many versions of these.
The one that I have uses a morning and evening prompts, and it helps me to start the day with intention and reflect on the good moments before bed. One of my favorite prompts is how will I look for gratitude today? This question shifts my mindset from the start, making it one of the most effective gratitude practice out there.
I'm actually starting today thinking about how I'm going to incorporate more gratitude into my day from the offset, which leads me to looking for glimmers. We see, we hear so much about triggers, those moments that activate stress or negative emotion. But what about the glimmers? These are the tiny moments of joy, peace, and beauty that we often overlook.
A warm cup of [00:04:00] tea in your hands. The way the sun filters through the trees. A kind smile from a stranger. The look on your child's face when they're excited about something. These small moments add up and can completely shift your energy. The more that you spend your day looking for these glimmers, the more that you'll notice them.
It's not that it necessarily increases them, although it can, but it's noticing what's always been there and that you might have previously overlooked.
how does gratitude connect to momentum? So why are we even talking about gratitude in connection with the Momentum Month? The more that you lean into gratitude, the more positive your mindset becomes and the less stress you have. Also, we already know that it builds resilience as well. So when you feel positive, you're naturally looking for growth and success.
And it doesn't mean that you're ignoring challenges or pretending everything is fine. Real gratitude acknowledges what's [00:05:00] hard while still finding something good. It strengthens relationships. And expressing appreciation to those around you deepens connections and creates more support in your life. And if you're constantly positive and looking for the positive in life, more opportunities are coming to you.
You'll notice when those opportunities present. So, I know some of you are wondering, how do I stay positive when things aren't going well? Yeah, it's great to talk about gratitude, but things just aren't going well with me right now. I don't have anything to be grateful for. So, first off, I just want to say, don't force yourself into toxic positivity.
You are allowed to feel frustration, sadness, anger. Practicing gratitude is not about suppressing those feelings. And the key is to process those emotions, to let them be acknowledged that they're there. Find a way to release them. So whether that's through journaling, breath work, movements, don't want them to get stuck.[00:06:00]
And once you've allowed yourself to feel, then you can start to look for those small true things you can be grateful for. Don't try to make up things if you're not grateful for them to pretend that you're grateful for. Look at for tiny things that are true, that feel meaningful, impactful to you that you can be grateful for.
What is the easiest way to start a gratitude practice? So the simplest way is to attach it to something that you already do. So you can start by just thinking of three things you're grateful for while you're brushing your teeth. Or if you're like me and you need something tangible, write it down.
Writing forces you to be specific and it makes it even more powerful. Can gratitude really make a difference in how I feel about my progress? Absolutely. It might sound simple. Even a little silly, but gratitude shifts everything. When you acknowledge and appreciate the progress you've made, you start to see more opportunities and invite more growth into your life.
So here's today's challenge. Take [00:07:00] one of these gratitude practices and try it. Whether it's journaling, looking for those glimmers, or simply pausing for a moment of appreciation. See how it shifts your energy. And if this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear about it. Send me a message, tag me on social media with what you're grateful for today.
