Spring Reset

Christina: [00:00:00] It's finding that balance between that push and pull and allowing ourselves to come into the season with more intention, with a little more patience, and really preparing ourselves for this next transition.

It's these moments of space, that in between, that can leave us feeling stuck. I can't fully pack away the winter gear yet, but we're already breaking out the bikes and sunglasses. It's a time to plant seeds, set intentions, and prepare for the outward energy that's to come.

Welcome to Clear and On Purpose, the podcast designed to help you cut through the noise and get back to what matters most. If you're feeling stuck but need to take intentional action, you're in the right place. I'm Kristina Slaibach, homeschooling mom of two and life and business coach, helping you drop in and align with your values and create more space.

Each week, I'll be sharing practical insights and simple steps to help you find clarity, boost your energy and design a [00:01:00] life that balances ambition let's dive in and get clear on purpose.

Christina: Welcome back to Clearing On Purpose. The spring equinox is upon us and I wanted to take some time to talk about that transition from winter to spring. What it can bring up for us energetically and how to intentionally reset and move into the new season with clarity and purpose. There's this strange energy, this space between winter and spring, where the weather's starting to turn, but it can still be cold. And there's more lights, but we're not fully emerging from that winter hibernation. It's just that muddy season to get through, before all the plants and the green arrive.

Spring is actually a time of balance. It's where that light and darkness are in harmony. We're coming from the season of introspection, hibernation, and reflection. At the equinox, we [00:02:00] experience this fleeting moment of perfect balance in day and night. But that quickly shifts as we continue moving forward, giving more energy, giving more light.

And it's such a great reminder that we, too, are always in flux. That perfect balance isn't a permanent state, and it's something that ebbs and flows as our needs, our actions, and our energy evolve. That's the natural cycle. Spring is often seen as a season of rebirth, and it can be refreshing after a long winter.

But first It's kind of awkward. We have to move through this muddy, sluggish phase before we reach that full sense of renewal. And that's what this time of year really feels like to me. It's this push and pull energy, where I'm feeling optimistic about what's ahead, but I can still be a little sluggish in the present moment.

And this mirrors the transitions that we experience in life and business, where we can start to see a change coming, a new growth [00:03:00] opportunity, and we want to rush forward. But we have to get through a stage of uncertainty and the emotional mud to reach clarity and warmth of what's next.

By taking that time to plan and embrace the uncertainty of the season, we can feel refreshed and ready for the opportunities that are on their way. It's a little bit of one step forward, two steps back. You want to move forward and if you get going too fast, you're going to have to pull back.

If I, Start to put the seeds in the ground too early, the frost will get them and I'll have to start over. It's finding that balance between that push and pull and allowing ourselves to come into the season with more intention, with a little more patience, and really preparing ourselves for this next transition.

It's these moments of space, that in between, that can leave us feeling stuck. I can't fully pack away the winter gear yet, but we're already breaking out the bikes and sunglasses. It's a time to plant [00:04:00] seeds, set intentions, and prepare for the outward energy that's to come. As part of homeschooling, we've worked through a lot of different homeschool methodologies and I've come to appreciate things in each one.

And in the Waldorf philosophy, they talk a lot about structuring days around inhale and exhale energy. So inhale energy is when you're bringing things in, you're kind of quieting things down, you're allowing some calm, that reflective state. And exhale energy is the Big push energy. It's the outward motion.

It's the going outside. It's the, having a lot of outwardly focused, whether that's physical or emotional energy late spring and summer feel for me like this big exhale energy. It's the time for more activity, the time for social connection and momentum. And right now in this in between season, I use this time to reset and set my intentions before that shift happens.

So [00:05:00] each season I do a reset, and it's a process where I reflect and it helps me enter the next phase with more clarity and focus. And today I want to walk you through my exact process of what I'm going to be doing this year for my spring resets, and how that flows into my quarterly resets in general.

My seasonal reset process starts with a quarterly review and reflection. This is a time for me to review the first three months of the year, look at what worked, what didn't, look at my annual goals and revisit those and see if they still feel aligned, if I need to make any adjustments. And then it's to set my intentions and focus for the new quarter.

I use tools like my Moxie Life Planner to go through this each quarter to go through the wheel of life compass and you can actually go through and mark Your energy levels and feelings on eight different areas of life. Personal family relationships professional Fun and recreation health and wellness finances it's to see what areas of your life [00:06:00] need more focus and what areas need to be re evaluated It's also a time to create personal and professional goals and to look at what I want to do in this next season ahead.

And then I go in to create a seasonal vision board and bucket list. Each season for us has a distinct feel. I want to experience that intentionally. I want to plan our activities and our focus to take advantage and make the most of the season that we're in. I started doing this last year in creating these seasonal bucket lists so that I didn't end the season thinking, Oh man, I really wish we would have done that and I never made the time for it.

This is separate from any personal or professional goals. This is for our family. Our fun and recreation. These are things I want to do to create that connection, to be able to create those experiences and memories. For each season, I've been creating these vision boards and then have this overall bucket list of what we want to do for the season.

And I'll talk tothe [00:07:00] family, I'll talk to the kids, I'll get ideas of what we want to do that kind of line up with that season, and then we'll create this overarching bucket list. We don't always get to everything on our list, but it really does create more intention and getting the things done that we want to.

Some spring activities might include planting seeds, going biking, having picnics, watching thunderstorms. For this past season of winter, I had actually missed skiing. I usually like to go cross country skiing. I started a few years ago and didn't get a chance to do it the year before.

I remember feeling a little bit sad about that. When I created the bucket list for this past winter, I did have that on there. We really didn't have a lot of snow again this season, but because we had that on there, we made a couple of specific opportunities to go downhill skiing with friends.

And when I did have a couple of days, before the snow melted and knew that might be my last opportunity. I took the chance because I knew that was something I wanted to do I [00:08:00] got out the skis and went skiing right before sunset. That was probably my only time that I was going to be able to do it this year.

I don't think we're going to get another snow, in order to do that, but I was able to get it done and I probably wouldn't have done it if I hadn't created that bucket list and if I hadn't intentionally thought about what I wanted to do for the year. That week was busy and I wouldn't necessarily have put in the effort, if I hadn't planned it first.

So this is why I like to go through these exercises and kind of create those bucket lists. It's because it really does make me look back and think about what I want that season to be. What I want to take advantage of. and create those times intentionally in my weeks and days.

this is about dreaming and family experiences. Not about responsibilities. I like to doa house reset and refresh. every quarter, I know spring cleaning can be an opportunity for people to really go deep cleaning in their house. I don't typically do a lot of deep, deep spring cleaning, but I do like to do a general reset and a declutter.

I like to go through all of our [00:09:00] things, reorganize the garage so we can make space for our bikes and our outdoor gear, start to put away the winter gear. I like to take an opportunity to check our clothing needs, especially for the kids as they're growing, to look at what no longer fits, what maybe has gotten destroyed, and then prep for those warmer months so that I know going in who needs what things and what things I need to be looking for.

I also like to put together our car kit. This is something that I just like to have in the back of the car and it adjusts by the season, it's not actually the best time of year for the spring to be able to have it concise and consolidated because we do have to have things for cold weather and then warm weather.

What I like to do is have some extras in the back of the car for spontaneous outings. So in the winter this is extra winter gloves, hats, coats if we have them, and just keeping all of that stuff in the back if we find that we're somewhere and we need some of that stuff we have it readily available in the car.

For the spring, I really do have to keep a lot of that winter stuff [00:10:00] because you never know when it's going to be cold. But then I also bring in more of the raincoats, some towels because who knows we're going to be getting wet and muddy. And start bringing in our outdoor blankets, some for hiking things, bug spray, those types of things.

And this is really an opportunity for us to be more spontaneous. If we do find something that we want to do, I have some stuff in there. If we wind up getting muddy and dirty, it's cool because we have some extra stuff available in the car. I will give you one of my best hacks that, I was taught when my kids were young, and that's to keep it in a laundry basket.

Having a laundry basket in the back of the car is great for keeping snow gear, but also for muddy clothes and towels contained after adventures. So it doesn't get all over the car. Another thing that I like to do in my spring reset is to look ahead and plan.

So I'll review the next few months, any upcoming trips, birthdays, commitments, appointments, planning any activities, if we have any sports that we're going to be involved in, and then look at what we need to adjust and align with our priorities. [00:11:00] Are we needing to cut back on some things? Are we needing to add more things and just get a general feel of what the next few months are going to look like?

I also, as part of a quarterly reset, love a personal retreat. When possible, I take a couple of days away to reset myself and gain some perspective. I take the opportunity to just go and review my personal and professional goals. And I have that space alone, and it helps me really return feeling really grounded.

I thrive on having that quiet and that alone space, and so having the opportunity to reset and reflect that way always gives me more energy and momentum when I come back. This doesn't always happen, but when it does, it really does make a huge difference. It's also a great opportunity to kind of look at my professional goals, the next few months planning content for you all, what I want to work on with my clients, any new programs or things that I want to do, professional development, things like that.

I also take this as an opportunity to look at and evaluate our daily [00:12:00] and weekly routines and rhythms. So where can I simplify things? What do I need to streamline? How can I better support myself? Morning routines are something that start to shift. Usually at this time they start to move earlier. I have more time outside.

I'll usually do running or walking in the morning, our work and homeschooling and daily activities will adjust and flow with the new season. We typically use the spring and the summer to do a lot more hands on activities, a lot more science, a lot more outdoor based things, where the winter is more handwork and, reading,

so this process helps me to step into it and look at how our routines and rhythms adjust throughout, our weekly rhythms and when we're going to be planning more things that might be outside, if we're going to be needing to adjust the time that we're spending doing things, just to be able to get that that clarity and kind of what it's going to look like so I can plan adjust and make [00:13:00] any changes we need as we're moving forward rather than just all of a sudden feeling behind.

And these are the steps that I work through as part of this quarterly reset process. I do an annual reset, monthly resets, and I do weekly resets too, that all just have kind of a different flavor. But this is What I'm going to be working through this spring. I used to try to do it where I would cram it all into like one or two days a weekend and just try to get all of these things done.

And I found that I was not actually going into the new quarter feeling that refreshed and energized for it. So I've started to embrace more of this gradual approach. I'll do these things and fit them over a few weeks and be able to gradually move and adjust this allows me the time to have more intention and to create that feeling of reset and spring refresh energy coming into it.

As you're looking at things you might want to do in your quarterly reset, they might look different [00:14:00] than what I do, but look at ways that are actually going to be bringing you energy, that are going to be bringing you the feelings that you're craving rather than just something that somebody thinks you should do based on a checklist.

This overall process helps me step into my spring, feeling aligned and ready for the energy shift. I love the idea of moving with the seasons rather than against them. And honoring this inhale. This little end of this winter inhale before the exhale. And making space for what's to come. So I'd love to know, like, what about you?
