Narrator:

You are listening to the Hot + Brave podcast with Bianca Sprague from Bebo Mia where you'll hear brave stories, hot topics, and truth bombs that will either light fire to your rage or be the balm you need for your soul.

Bianca:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Hot + Brave podcast. Why are we here? Well, we are raging. We are super fucking mad at the state of the world. We are also searching for more joy and connection and laughter and community. We will not let the patriarchy be the thief of happiness and fun. We spend most of our days deeply committed to changing the world with the group of some of the best humans to know. I am your host, Bianca Sprague, and join us as we explore stories of reproductive health and justice, feminist business, parenting, developing a community, starting a movement, as well as surviving and thriving in a complicated world. The Hot + Brave podcast is brought to you by the women of Bebo Mia. The mission of the podcast and of Bebo Mia is to connect you to your intrinsic value and power. Listening to your gut, making choices for you and being validated in the ups and downs of being alive. We want this to be a place to rage, and heal and grow. We see that folks who identify as women and mothers are tired. Ah, we are so darn tired. We do mountains of invisible labor. We stress about our bodies and the never ending work and raising our children and doing all of it with financial and physical vulnerability. We mostly keep our heads down and push through the day. We don't have a lot of space, if any, at all, to share about how we're really feeling about our lives and the situations we find ourselves in. And this is gonna be a place where we talk about it all. You'll get a new episode of Hot + Brave every Tuesday. The first three episodes you're listening to right now will be a part of our Summer Sizzler reel, and season one will be released in September. Season one, we'll be kicking it off, talking all about rage. The rage of women, the rage of mothers. We wanna talk about that rage because it has heat with it. It can fuel us. It needs to be felt. And then we wanna take the suffering out of it. We wanna use it for change. We wanna find love and we wanna laugh our asses off and we'll do it all here. As I mentioned, I'm Bianca and I'm the founder of Bebo Mia Inc. And Bebo Mia has grown over the last 14 years to be a wonderful movement that creates community. And it inspires folks who identify as women. We educate people looking for work or currently working in the space of free reproductive health and justice. We are making magic. I live just outside Toronto with my wife, Hailey, who you might meet in future episodes if I get my way. And our wild and witty teen called Gray, who keeps me on my toes to say the least. I'm joined today for our first episode of the Summer Sizzler sneak peak by Meg Kant, who is a magical flipping human, who is such a critical part of my life. Hello Meg.

Meg:

Oh, hi. Hello everyone. I'm Meg. And I'm joining here from Sudbury, Ontario where I live with my two kids and my handsome as it gets husband, Max. I found myself called to birth work after my oldest son was born and I never, in a million years would've imagined what following that passion would bring me. I found connection, purpose, community, and a sense of freedom that I honestly didn't even know existed. After having an eating disorder for over a decade I now happily live in a fat body and I'm hell bent on breaking down weight stigma and fat phobia that is hurting so many folks. The wonderful humans joining me on this podcast are some of my favorite people in the world. And I'm so freaking grateful to have linked arms and that we are smashing the patriarchy together with the rest of the Bebo Mia team.

Bianca:

Meg also has an infectious laugh. So get ready for that. Thank you for being here, Meg. We also have Ms. Michelle Cruz, who is joining us from Austin, Texas, and shit, this girl is a breath of fresh air. She takes no shit while making you feel so darn good at the same time. Hello, Michelle.

Michelle:

Hello, Bianca. And I live with my three littles, including my feisty set of twins and the no joke goal, perfect husband that I wish I could call on for every single person on the planet, Robert. And I like legit cannot wait to start each day. I honestly working with my family and we're gonna keep body safe, like gets me out of my bed every day. And as I proud, loud, fat, black woman, I literally cannot wait to tell everyone what the best part of them is. I love to compliment folks. That's what that basically means. After a traumatic birth, my first child, which was a medically coerced C-section that left me asking, like what the hell just happened? I knew there had to be a different way to birth and just live while being pregnant. I found birth work and I've been running at full speed to support families every single day. I live for laughs empowering people and giving them my all is my mission every day, this podcast is gonna bring you people that love to love, and we have a mission to fight for life fiercely against the patriarchy.

Bianca:

Hot damn Michelle! Thank you for joining us. So we want folks to get the right idea about us as we go through this journey of brave stories, hot topics, and truth bombs. We wanna make you laugh. We want you to feel inspired and we want to give you a place to rage.

Meg:

So the work that we do, can kind of be put in reproductive health, but like most anti-oppressive anti-racist work, it's hard to capture exactly what our work is because it touches on so many facets of humanity. We cannot talk about reproductive health and justice without talking about fatphobia, domestic violence, food poverty, and the mountain of unpaid labor mothers do 24/ 7 and so much more.

Michelle:

Yeah. And at Bebo Mia, we teach about ethical feminist business. We live in a and participate in a capitalist society. So how can we do this better? How can we undo harm? And these are topics we talk about all the time. We can amplify important voices, something we're able doing here on the Hot + Brave podcast, very regularly. We can buy ethical tech products. We can use marketing tools that do not use fear or scarcity, and we can make a living wage while pricing things in an affordable way. And we teach about all of this in our Birth Worker Business School.

Bianca:

So, these are just some of the things we're gonna be talking about. The Hot + Brave podcast will be launching season one in September, and you can catch us weekly.
