Mind Body Mastery
060: Better Mental Health By Moving Your Body
The episode focuses on the concept that the human body serves as the "container" for energy, which in turn constitutes the mind. It explores the interconnectedness of body, energy, and mind, emphasizing how physical health and habits—such as sleep, movement, and diet—impact mental clarity, emotions, and overall well-being. The hosts discuss the importance of recognizing cause-and-effect relationships in personal choices and their outcomes, advocating for intentional living and awareness of how lifestyle factors influence both physical and mental states.

Mike: [00:00:00] This is another episode of body over mind. This is Mike Chang with your host, Steven Yeh. And today we're going to talk about your body being the energetic container that is holding your mind. So. When we look at the energy in our body, we have to remember that the energy in your body is your mind. I think when we, we seem to look at things and we don't connect the dots together because of the lack of the understanding of what a human being actually is.
The energy in your body, that energy that's flowing around, that's making everything move, that's making everything tick, that is your mind. Okay, can you point to the energy? You can't. Can you point to your mind? And the answer is you can't as well. But you can point to your body because your body is a physical thing that exists in the physical world now.
But your energy and your mind does not exist in this physical world. But yet, [00:01:00] they are of the same thing. When your energy changes, your mind changes. So then what changes your energy? And the answer is the container in which is holding your energy. That's what changes the energy.
Stephen: What do you mean by that when you're talking about the container that holds the energy?
Mike: So the container that holds your energy is the body. Your body holds your energy. Without your body, you wouldn't have the energy there.
Stephen: That's why the podcast is called Body Over Mind.
Mike: So, when you change your container and you clean out this container, you open up this container, you bend this container, you expand this container, well now your container is holding more energy.
It's holding a different frequency of energy. Now, in other words Your container, because it's holding a different energy, another way of looking at the same thing is that your container is now [00:02:00] holding a different mind. You see, all about the perspective in which we are viewing mind, and body, and energy, and feelings, and emotion, and habits, and thoughts, and behaviors, and beliefs.
Most people do not really connect the dots to these things, but yet we are all influenced by all of this stuff and the dots we are connecting today is that your body is the container that holds your energy and your energy is your mind. Absolutely. Okay, there's no difference.
Stephen: And, and reflecting back just to some of the basic things that we're talking about, which is, you know, movement.
What you eat and also sleep. I can totally feel why I'm feeling the way I am right now, mainly because I had a very late call. I didn't get to sleep until later. I woke up pretty early. So the, the system itself was already, , not working to its optimum. And then [00:03:00] I had to go in, jump into a call straight away.
So I didn't get one. I didn't get optimal sleep. And then number two, I didn't do my morning movements, which means I did not shift the container of the energy.
Mike: So if you look at sleep, like what is sleep effect, right? We go sleep effect to my energy. No, sleep affected the body, the container. And then when the container wasn't recovering container is now have holes.
well we broke the container yesterday by using it a little bit and we didn't fully sleep, so we didn't fully repair the container. Now this energetic container is a little bit broken. It's a little bit, you know, it's not structurally well today. So then now your energy is not the best. You see, we have to look at this as.
A very, very specific thing. What is sleep doing? You see, when we go sleep, oh, it's helping my mind. It's helping my energy. It's helping my feelings. It's helping. So in other words, you have no idea what sleep is [00:04:00] actually doing, right? If you look at your business, what is this action doing? If I spend $1, 000 in this traffic source, what is it doing?
Oh, it's going to do this, this, this, this, this. That means you have no idea what this $1, 000 is doing, right? So you have to go, this is going to make this and this and this. This is the path it's going to do. And this is the results going to create. And now you can scale your business. Now, when you look at sleep in the same way, what is sleep doing?
If you go, it's going to do a whole bunch of stuff. That means you don't know what it's actually doing. Because it's not just doing a whole bunch of stuff. There is something specific that it's doing and that thing that it's doing creates another effect. And we have to start to understand the specificity of us as a human being.
And to get very back to practical, sleep is recovering the physical body. Now what happens when the physical body, the energetic container, is recovered, the energy that the container holds can be of a higher frequency. We can hold more of it. The [00:05:00] energy doesn't just leak out. So now when this container is recovered, and now this container can hold more energy.
Now let's go and reframe that. Now our energetic container can hold more mind, more mind. What happens when we have less mind, less tension of mind, less state of mind, less clarity, we're foggy. You see, energy and mind are the same, so when our body is fully strong, well recovered, our mind is automatically the same.
This is how the correlation works between it. This is why when we just look at it, when you eat bad things in your body, right, food that doesn't sit well with your body, suddenly your mind directly gets affected. The moment is not even like days. We all know how it feels like to where you eat something heavy and suddenly your mind gets foggy, right?
And then you literally can't think [00:06:00] and you have to shut down. You're about to fall asleep. You're, you're not able to stay conscious and your mind loses creativity. It loses focus and attention and you barely can stay up. You see, it's not like it's an effect that happens days. It's an immediate thing because we changed this energetic container by stuffing a whole bunch of things in it that doesn't Suit this container well,
Stephen: Absolutely you can see just recently you took a look at my trash bin.
That's another reason why
Mike: I looked in and I was throwing something away and I was like, Stephen, you've been, man, this is what happened to all of these snacks. I see like, like three packs of snacks all gone. And I remember literally like two days ago, he asked me if I wanted some of those. I was like, no, I'm good.
And now all of it is in the trash. Empty.
Stephen: So, so I definitely have certain patterns where from time to time I just completely binge and it's one of those things where, you know, when I do it, , I totally know [00:07:00] just how much it's going to affect me. So it's one of those, like. Things that happens every couple, few weeks that it just happens and I feel the effects of it, just like kind of what I'm experiencing right now.
And then it's like one of those lessons that I just continuously have to learn over and over. And hopefully one day. Although once in a while, I think it's fine. Once in a while when these happen, it's a good reminder for me to actually stick with the basics and stick with what actually works,
Mike: you know, nothing is wrong.
If we make a conscious choice to go ahead and sleep two hours and feel like crap the next day, because we made a choice. Right, we have the power to make choices. There's nothing wrong if we decide to go ahead and eat three packs of snacks and a tub of ice cream. It was delicious. And a huge bag of Doritos.
And then, , nothing's wrong with that. We make a choice, we do it.
but [00:08:00] What I see is that people are confused. Well, people are confused that why their mind is not operating the way it is. Why their body is so fatigued after. It's like they didn't connect the dots with the things that they ate. They didn't connect the dots with their lack of sleep.
They didn't connect the dots with their lack of, of, of movement, lack of practice, and they think it's something else. That's the actual issue. There's no issue. If someone goes, you know what? I, I didn't get enough sleep. So this is why I'm feeling bad. This is why I'm coming up with all of this issues.
This is why I'm, I'm arguing with this person because I'm not in a good mood because I didn't get enough sleep. That's why, it has nothing to do with that person, it has nothing to do with this and that, it has to do with me not getting enough sleep, it has to do with me not eating the things I needed to eat.
I was eating garbage, it has to do with me just slacking off on my movement. Nothing is wrong with that, because we understand the cause and effects. well, what I see people actually doing is not [00:09:00] connecting those dots and then being confused. And then, they, when they're confused they're not changing those fundamental things.
Instead, they're looking around for alternate solutions that doesn't work because The problem wasn't those solutions. It wasn't those things.
Stephen: It's not the root problem. They're, they're
Mike: It's not solving anything. Yeah it's just helping a little bit here and there, but it's not really solving anything.
Just like when people They spend all their energy on this stuff and nothing is happening and things are actually getting worse. You see, that's the actual issue.
Stephen: Absolutely. Like just for example, what comes to mind right now is people who are just eating complete crap. And then also they're emotionally a wreck so that every time they eat, it's just like stuffing, stuffing.
And they're just getting larger and larger. And what type of solutions they look for? Sometimes they just look for the magic pill. They're looking for that weight loss pill that they can just swallow, continue doing what they're doing and [00:10:00] expect to be fit, right?
Mike: Well, Let's say they're looking for the pill, they're looking for the solution to lose weight because they realize that their weight , is an issue right now.
And they connected the dots that their bad eating habits is stopping them from performing in their work and having a good relationship in their personal life because their mind is just very, very cluttered. That's, honestly to me, that's fine. That's fine if they, because they realize that this is the issue.
But let's say this same person. Don't realize that it has to do with their terrible eating habits. That's creating all of these problems in their life. So now this person is talking to their partner and trying to figure out why their partner is treating them this way and why they have this relationship issues.
Now this person is looking at their work , looking at their managers, looking at their teammates and going what needs to change over here because how come I'm having so much problems, we need to change this, this and this because things aren't going [00:11:00] well. You see, like they're looking at all these things thinking that the problem is external.
But they just didn't recognize that it's their diet. That's what I mean. See, if a person recognizes it, you know what, then people get to make the choice they want to make. And like you said, sometimes it's okay. Just go pig out for, for a day or two days or three days. So be it. I'm not saying that we all need to be perfect and do the right things all the time.
It's, it's fine, man. We do what the heck we want to do. But when we are doing whatever we want to do, I think it's just important that we recognize the cause and effect of what it is that we're doing. That's all. If we don't recognize the cause and effect, man, we're lost. Think about it, right? It's like, you want to go and eat that stuff, or we, you want to go and party and drink heavily, go ahead.
But what's going to happen? Yes, oh, you're going to be hungover for a week, but you're down with that, you're good, go for it, bro.
Stephen: Know the consequences.
Mike: Yeah, just go for it. You, because that's the way you want to live right now. Go for it. There ain't nothing wrong with that, [00:12:00] man. It's just life.
Stephen: Yeah.
Mike: But imagine when a person does that and they don't realize the consequences. Suddenly they're complaining, blaming.
Stephen: Here's one of the things that comes to the top of my mind right now. And I was just listening to a video about, , kids with ADD. And for a long time, I just thought this, I, to me, and we may be getting a little political, but you know, it's okay.
But to me, there really isn't this kind of problem, right? To me, what's happening is all these kids nowadays are freaking filled with sugar everywhere. So they're bombarding their system with. They're, they're super revved up and then they sit in a classroom where they're super bored of this teacher because the teacher's having to come every single day to lecture and maybe he doesn't even want to be there.
And the kid's just like, well, I'm a kid. I got all this energy. Plus I'm freaking rammed up by all this sugar. And then, so he starts a fidget because there's [00:13:00] a disconnect between what the kid really wants to do and also what he's experiencing there. And so this to me is also kind of one of those disconnects that I feel a lot of people just aren't seeing, right?
And that's why for my kid. It's important for him to find an environment where he's actually having fun throughout the day. Not just having fun, but of course learning. But I don't believe that these kids are just born with this ADD issue. I think a lot of it is caused by certain kind of environmental factors that's going on.
Mike: Yeah, I see what you mean. If a person goes and eats a large lunch and then afterwards they go and sit down, it's number one, they eat a large lunch. You're going to fall asleep right after. You know, especially with what they're eating. We know what people are being fed in cafeterias because we all went to school as well and yeah, you know, the stuff.
So you eat [00:14:00] that and go into food coma in the next class, you're falling asleep. But even before that, when somebody's eating breakfast at home, like you said, they're eating stuff that's not good for their body. They're blocking up their energy because they're clogging up their body. Now their mind is not firing.
So then if somebody looks at what they're eating, they may realize, well, this person can't pay attention because they're putting garbage into their body and now their energy isn't high enough in their body. The energy isn't high enough because the container is not taken care of. We're not giving this container the right food, the right fuel.
I mean, it's, it's really simple. Change up the diet. Why would people be giving, pharmaceutical medicine when they just need to change up the diet? Of course, the obvious reason, and we know why, right? The pharma companies aren't making money off of broccoli and carrots and vegetables and proteins.
Right. Yeah. They make money off of, medicine. However, I think that's, what they do, right? It's a business. That's what they do. It is what it is. But for us, to [00:15:00] realize, for the people that are listening, for us that are making the decisions, we need to recognize what it is that we need to do.
We let them do what they want to do, but we need to recognize what we need to do. And if you have a child who has ADD, look at what this child is eating. See if this child is getting enough sleep. Are they staying up playing video games? Are they staying up and not getting sleep? Look and see if this child is getting enough movement or not getting the movement.
These are just the basic fundamental things that the child is usually. Nine times out of ten, they're not getting one or more of these things. Therefore, the container is not holding a large amount of energy. Now this person can't pay attention. That's the basics of the thing. Before we get into other logistics, like you said, Stephen, the class is super boring.
I don't want to sit down. I mean, how come adults get to have stand up desks and children can't? I don't know. I've been out of school for a little while, but I haven't heard about schools having stand up desks. Have you?
Stephen: Nope, not at all.
Mike: [00:16:00] That'd be kind of cool.
Stephen: Well, that, and maybe even not just stand up desk, but like get the kids outside, let them move and interact and experience things instead of also just kind of bombarding them with information while they're sitting down.
I mean, going back to the topic of just being in your head, I feel like in general, that's another kind of one of those things that kind of sets this pattern where You imagine you are a kid and you sit and you're full of energy, but at the same time, you're not allowed to really get out of your seat, right?
So naturally, you gotta listen to the teacher and all of this. Naturally, all the energy is just going to have to go to your mind. If you, are actually being obedient inside the classroom. And so to me, it makes a lot of sense nowadays. Why so many people are in their heads, we've programmed people that way.
We've set the behavior for that to work.
Mike: So the sum of how to get out of your head, [00:17:00] the most fundamental thing that people are not doing, but is very straightforward to do is. Number one, get the sleep, two, eat clean, and three, get your movement in. Take care of your body and look at your body differently now.
Remember, your body is an energetic container. This container that holds your energy is holding your mind. Because your mind is your energy. There is no difference. There is no difference. Okay, the energy that circulates in your body Is your mind. There is no difference. You got to connect those dots. You got to get clear on that.
And therefore, whatever is happening in your container. Your body will affect that energy. Your body is like a glass. Like a glass and the energy is like water. What happens if you crack this glass? Oh man, you know, that [00:18:00] energy is going to start to flow out. Right? What happens if you start to go and cap this water?
Cap this glass? You can't have any more energy flow in. There's blockages. You know, you got to look at the body differently. We have to start to reframe the way that we view our body and our mind. We got to reframe it. So now it gives you a fuller understanding of why this basic fundamental thing is needed because everybody knows about eat, sleep, and move.
But people aren't connecting the dots to how it's affecting other aspects of their life, like the clarity of their mind, like their attention, like their ability to perform. They're not connecting the dots. And therefore, why do these things? , and I think that's really the biggest thing today is guys connect the dots together.
And when you connect the dots together, you'll realize that take care of your body and your mind would function at the best it can [00:19:00] be. Before we even start diving into stuff like mindset and stuff like, you know, belief systems and all these things. Releasing emotions and all that stuff. Before we even dive into all of that, the most basic thing that is just to go ahead and take care of this energetic container.
And when you do, automatically your mind, the chatter of your mind, will start to decrease. And I think that's what we start off today, talking about mind chatter. And the reason why this mind chatter will decrease is because Because of the container, the energy in your body becomes more calm. The energy becomes more calm, it becomes more calm because when you have a rested body, when your body is at ease, your energy isn't chaotic.
You're not stressed.
Stephen: Yeah, basically you're not in fight or flight mode anymore. One of the reasons why people are thinking so much in some ways is [00:20:00] because their parasympathetic nervous system is activated. And when that happens, You just have these rapid fire thoughts that happen, but when the system is relaxed and you're chill, then there's no need for all of these thoughts to just run through.
You're safe. You're okay.
Mike: Alright guys, so I hope today's podcast shines some light on helping you have a understanding of the body being that energetic container. That is holding your mind. Beautiful.
Stephen: Thank you guys for attending to another episode of Body Over Mind and we'll see you on the next episode.
