Today is..

“ Lifestyle Medicine Monday”,  where I take just a few minutes to share with you small lifestyle changes that make a big  difference, and will sometimes, or  may never  be related to the podcast coming out on the Wednesday Following.

I am  your host Joanne Demers, thank you for joining me.

In this episode I am going to share a game changing item that I made in my sleep routine. It touches your skin and hair for hours EVERY night/ what do you think I am? any guesses?  A pillowcase!!  I switched to silk pillowcase a few years ago, and it may be the simplest beauty and wellness upgrade you can make.

Btw; this is beneficial  for both guys and gals.

A silk pillowcase is incredibly smooth, which means less friction on your skin, unlike cotton or even high thread count pillowcases  which can tug on your skin and crease your face while you sleep. Silk helps reduce sleep lines that can and WILL, turn into wrinkles over time. I can attest to that.

Also, silk does not absorb as much moisture as cotton does. That means your night time skincare stays on your face- where it belongs rather than soaking into the pillowcase.

If you have sensitive or acne prone skin, silks hypoallergenic nature can be a game changer. It naturally resists dusts mites and allergens, creating a cleaner sleep environment. Because silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mold and other common allergens, they really help those with allergies or asthma.

Silk also benefits the hair.

#2- Hair benefits – I know at least once you have woken up with a headful of, tangles and frizz-silk helps prevent that by reducing friction between your hair and the pillow. This means fewer split ends and less breakage.

And another game changer- silk helps prevent hair loss, it helps because there is no pulling on the hair.

Silk also preserves your hairs natural oils, keeping your hair hydrated ,preventing dryness that leads to brittleness keeping your locks shinier and healthier.

And (women)- if you have styled your hair-whether it’s a fresh blowout or natural curls- silk helps maintain it longer.I really wish I would have known about these in my early teens, I am so curious if sleeping on silk would have put a stop to some of MY wrinkles. You haven’t shared with me how old you are, but if you are young or older it’s never too late to give silk a whirl, It is a game changer, I know your face and hair will thank me.

FYI- It does matter what silk you use, not all silk is created equal. For real benefits, look for 100% Mulberry Silk, this is the highest quality  and softest option, this is what you want tho, remember it is on your skin atleast 40 hours a week.

And if you want to make sure its safe , check for OEKO-TEX certification on the label, this means no harmful chemicals were used in the production.

So, if you are looking for an easy way to wake up with smoother skin, healthier hair, and alittle extra luxury, a silk pillowcase will definitely  be worth  the switch

Quick PSA_ Hang dry your silk pillowcases, they are delicate and the dryer will  ruin it.

PSA#2- they make great gifts- a good thick luxury silk will cost between 80-100.00- I know, it sounds like a lot but its worth the investment- Slip or Lily Silk are both great.

Sometimes, the smallest lifestyle tweaks have the biggest impact.
