MONTHLY SPECIAL - "Why doesn't she leave?" - Understanding Domestic Abuse
"Instead of asking why doesn't she leave, we need to start asking, what is he doing to make her stay?!"
The second of our shows during the 16 days of activism, and because of its importance, it has been released as a "Monthly Special".
This show is driven by a listener's lived experience of Domestic abuse which you may find distressing. Her words are re-recorded by an actor to protect her because her abuser whose financial as well as emotional co-ercion is discussed, is still out there.
Our guest expert Lucinda Jones a domestic abuse community ambassador unpacks the aspects of abuse one of the most powerful being the "trick" of love bombing ie."... He's so sweet, he meets me unexpectedly at work and sends flowers there..." which can actually be a demonstration of control, and low level stalking.
Both guests urge anyone who feel something isn't right to contact Women's Aid https://www.womensaid.org.uk/
