Welcome to the next episode of the Fit and Healthy Sioux Falls Show. I'm your host, cj Workamp, and today we are going to be talking about a new series that we are launching right here on this podcast. So let's dive in to today's episode. Hey, what's going on, guys? Cj Workcamp here, and I'm so excited to be talking with you about a new series that we are going to be to you the different ways in which you can live a fit and healthy lifestyle right here in Sioux Falls. And I kind of thought to myself, what better way to do that than to really get to know the coaches that we have at our gym and really highlight with you what makes them tick, ways in which they keep their health and fitness on track, what they do throughout our community to really use the different businesses and the different things that we have available in Sioux Falls, in our surrounding area, to help them with their health and fitness. And who knows, maybe we're going to uncover some golden nuggets, some golden takeaways that are gonna be able to help you, of course but I would even say myself be able to live a more fit and a more healthy lifestyle. And so, as we move forward the next couple months we are adjusting our schedule, so we are gonna be releasing a new episode every other week. Obviously, with just the hustle and the bustle of summer and with everybody moving and shaking and on the go, we're gonna be adjusting to every other week and launching a new series Meet the Coach and so I'll be bringing all of our different coaches on here, really having you get to know them, and I may even be bringing on some past coaches, maybe coaches that are no longer with us, maybe they coach somewhere else here in town or maybe they have left the coaching realm and are on to new and different things, but I'll be bringing them on as well and we're really going to be diving in to meeting the coaches here in Sioux Falls and learning how they are able to live fit and live healthy right here in Sioux Falls.
Speaker 1And so, again, this is a much shorter episode than normal and I really wanted to just give that announcement to you, and so that was the main purpose of this episode, but you can't just have an episode that's like two minutes long talking about a new series that's coming, and so I do want to give you some good takeaways for today and I really want to just help you understand that, wherever you're at in life right now, you can decide today that today can be the day that everything changes. And really a lot of times in life when you work to change something, it's kind of a dimming switch, meaning that you don't just boom all of a sudden. You hit that switch and next thing you know everything has changed. But the one thing that you can flip the switch with that's your mindset, because that is something that you have full control over, and I know that sometimes it doesn't feel like it. Sometimes we have different things that pop up in our mind and it is hard to control having positive thoughts come from that. But I wanna encourage you to understand that you do have control over your mindset and that when you can work towards a more positive mindset, you can actually then work towards a more positive life.
Speaker 1And the one tip that I want to give you and share with you was really the tip that I used myself when I decided that I wanted to open a gym, and so this was back in the beginning of 2014. I was working for a family owned company at the time. Our family owned company my grandma and her brother-in-law owned. It was called Queen City Wholesale. So I was working there. I had worked there for nine years and I decided, like I wanted to do something with health and fitness. I wanted to own a gym or own something that helped others with their health and fitness, and I had this realization that man, like we're influenced with so many different things and there's so many different influences out there in life. I was like what is one of the biggest influences that I have with me all the time that really does shape and shift my mindset, and what I realized was that it was my phone, because it has all the social media platforms on it, and if you're anything like me, or like most people, your mobile device probably has plenty of social media platforms on it that you frequent and what you can do is use them to your advantage.
Speaker 1Yes, there's an algorithm, but the algorithm works to show you stuff that you like and stuff that you want to see more of, and so you can start to train your algorithm by simply liking, following, unliking and blocking. So by liking, following, unliking and blocking. So by liking, following, unliking and blocking. Those are the four kind of tips in order to adjust your algorithm. So like and follow, or I don't even know what I just said Like follow, unlike and block. Those are the different things that you can do in order to adjust your algorithm.
Speaker 1And so what I did and I've talked about this in the past, but I like to call it a social media detox, and it I don't mean just like taking a break from social media, I mean like adjusting your social media, because when you come back, it's still going to be. If you take a detox where you don't even go on it. When you finally do get back on it, if you do get back on it, a lot of the platforms take some focused time when you're on it and don't just mindlessly scroll. Think to yourself. And what I actually did is I made like a list of all the different things that I would need to start really consuming and learning to own a gym or to help people with their health and fitness, and I was like man, I'm kind of at this point it was 2014,. I got certified through the National Personal Training Institute in 2009.
Speaker 1So a little time had gone past the five years, and so I was like I need to refresh in all my skills on all of this stuff, and so I started liking and following health tips, workout ideas, mindset and motivation, daily quotes and inspiration. I started liking and following those things and then I started basically unliking certain pages and whatnot and unfollowing and then even blocking things that were not pushing me in the right direction. Now I was and am your typical, you know, early 20 year old where, man, I was drinking and partying and going out and not living the most healthy lifestyle. Heck, I even, at one point in my life I helped open it was the first vape shop here in Sioux Falls, and let me tell you this, what we definitely know about vaping today it isn't conducive of a health and fitness lifestyle. And so I was vaping and doing all the things and, as we kind of, it was me and four other people that launched the vape shop here in town, and so at that point, I was like liking and following all these different vape things on my social media. So I had to detox from all that stuff and I just started basically unliking and blocking and unfollowing all these different things that would get me sidetracked or off track towards my goals, towards my goals.
Speaker 1And so, as you look to really make progress in your health and in your fitness, I want you to think about does social media have influence over you? And if you're like 99% of the population, the answer is yes, now you might be that 1% where the answer is no, and if that's you, then hey, good job. But then I would look what else has influence over you. Is it the radio? Is it the things that you consume, that you listen to and really start liking and following the things that are going to be who you want to be in the future, like who?
Speaker 1And again, the hard thing with that is I don't want you to get caught up in like comparison syndrome, because then you can actually start getting like comparison of well, I'm not like that person yet, but if it inspires you and if it motivates you, then like and follow it. And the second, that you start comparing yourself to a certain person or thing on Facebook. If you at all feel any comparison kind of rise up into your mindset, that's your sign. Unfollow, block, listen. There's enough people on social media that if you unfollow, block or leave whatever page or group or thing, it is that you're in that person, page or thing. They're going to be okay. They're not going to really go down because you left following that page or whatever it is. But you may be able to start getting better results in life by not having that negative comparison thought pop in when you see that, so you just get rid of it. You just get rid of it Anything that pops up if it has anything to do like for me it was partying and party games and this or that, all the different things.
Speaker 1I just blocked them, got rid of them, got them out of my social media so that that way I could really focus on where it was I wanted to go and the things I wanted to accomplish in life. And so that is my kind of tip for you today is that wherever you're at, you have the ability to kind of draw the line in the sand and start from this side forward. You cross the line and now you start making consistent progress towards the goals that you have. And my tip for that would be to really look at what things influence you in life. And it could be social media, and that's main what I'm talking about, but it could be something else too, and you may need to edit those relationships with social media or the different things that have that influence over you, so that that way, the things that are having influence over you are promoting the positive behavior that's pushing you to where you want to go. So that's my tip for you today, and then my announcement for the day is that, moving forward, we are going to an every other week launch or every other week drop of the Fit and Healthy Sioux Falls show and we're really going to be going through a series of meet the coach so that we can uncover the golden nuggets that really help them live a fit and healthy lifestyle right here in Sioux Falls in the surrounding area.
