 Welcome to Season 4!

On this episode, we welcome Nadia Shahbaz. Nadia Shahbaz is a writer and former news producer of Afghan and Italian heritage. Her work has been published in a variety of magazines and illuminated on buildings in New York City. She is currently working on a novel on her Sicilian family’s fascist past. She also runs a community writing studio and newsletter on how creativity changes us called The Dormer Window.

As always, we start this episode with our check-ins and cause for applause segment. For this episode, that includes haircuts, blowouts, paper crafts and December birthdays.

To jump straight to the regrets, tune in at 13:20.

Victoria opens up about how difficult it is to define a boundary versus a grudge.
Sometimes, it is very clear. In some relationships, one person is giving, giving, giving with nothing in return. Other times, it is not as clear. How do you make sure you stand up for yourself without hurting someone else?

During the feedback portion, we talk about how Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can feed low self-worth. We also explore Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD), the concept of a Power Circle and giving ourselves the love we give others.

Then, our guest Nadia opens up about criticism she received about being 'too sensitive'.
At the time, she believed it; perceiving her sensitivity as a burden instead of the incredible gift it really is. Learning how to fine-tune your sensitivity can make you a better artist, writer and person. It can bring you closer to your loved ones.

However, sensitivity is rarely welcome in the corporate bubble. Shadoe then shares an experience about being asked to work on her 'tofu', absorbing all the bad energy in the room to try and make things light and fun! This leads to a conversation about the book 'The Highly Sensitive Person' by Elaine Anon, inputs and outputs, and how it might be time to redefine what success looks like!

Tune in at 55:41 to hear a great tip from Victoria about how to support a member of your team that you might think is too sensitive, without using the words you're too sensitive.

We close out our episode by briefly discussing masculine and feminine energies.  We will need to have Nadia back on the show to discuss that in more detail!!

As always, we finish the episode with our three breaths.
