Hope After Child & Sibling Loss: An Empty Chair Endeavor Podcast
What happens when the empty chair at your table becomes permanent?
Hope After Child & Sibling Loss is a Christ-centered podcast for grieving parents and siblings who are learning to live with a loss they never imagined.
Here, grief is allowed to be honest. Faith is allowed to wrestle with hard questions. And hope doesn’t mean forgetting.
The host Greg Buffkin—who, with his wife Cathy, experienced the devastating loss of their son Ryan to suicide—invites bereaved parents, siblings, counselors, ministry leaders, and others to share the real stories behind their grief.
Together, we talk about the questions many people are afraid to ask: Where is God when life shatters? Can faith survive trauma? Is it okay to experience joy again? How does grief affect marriage, family, identity and purpose? And what does it mean to build a life you never imagined living?
There are no easy answers here. Just honest conversations, compassionate voices, biblical truth, and the reminder that you are not alone.
Because hope doesn’t forget the empty chair.
Hope After Child & Sibling Loss is part of The Empty Chair Endeavor.
DISCLAIMER: The views, beliefs, and opinions expressed by our guests may not necessarily be shared by this podcast or its host. We believe there is only one triune GOD: the Father, His son Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit. We believe that
Jesus humbled himself to become fully human, conceived by the virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit, retained his divine character and identity, lived a sinless life, executed on a Roman cross as an atonement for the sinfulness of mankind, buried, and raised back to life three days later to offer the hope of eternal life to all who would receive his free gift by grace through faith. Jesus tells us in John 14:6 "I am the way and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

For the majority of us, dates on our calendars represent a 24 hour segment of time that may be quite ordinary other than reminders of appointments, school events, etc. For some, however, a date on the same calendar represents a life shattering event that forever changes the trajectory of their lives. For Derek and Becky Farr, it came on September 28, 2021 when they received the news that their beloved son, Micah, had been killed in an early morning traffic accident at the young age of 27. As a career law enforcement officer and pastor, Derek was well acquainted with death and grief, but nothing could have adequately prepared him for the sudden, unexpected loss of his own son. Join our conversation as Derek and I discuss the impact losing Micah has had on his and his family's lives, his faith, and how GOD has so lovingly been restoring all the broken pieces. This story is one of GOD's kindness and faithfulness in the face of unspeakable tragedy and pain, and one that, I believe, will leave you with the certain hope that GOD can restore meaning, purpose, and hope to you on your personal grief journey.
