What does healing look like when the systems around us were never built for us? In this episode of Middle Fingers Up, we sit down with writer, mental health advocate, and early childhood educator Ishaa Vinod Chopra, author of Finding Order in Disorder: A Bipolar Memoir. Ishaa shares her journey with bipolar disorder, the stigma surrounding mental health in South Asian communities, and how working with young children has shaped her understanding of emotional well-being from an early age.

We also discuss domestic violence in our community—how to recognize the signs, the cultural barriers that keep women trapped, and what real support looks like. And beyond Western mental health models, Ishaa reminds us that healing has always been woven into our roots—through movement, dance, storytelling, and creative expression.

A powerful conversation about reclaiming our traditions, breaking cycles of silence, and finding strength in our own ways of healing.
