EP109- No Zero Days, The Power of Daily Improvement (20minsolo)
Lets us know your thoughts thru TEXT!
The “secret”to extraordinary transformation lies not in dramatic life overhauls but in the consistent accumulation of tiny improvements. Drawing from my personal journey—from "Fat Miguel" at 289 pounds, pre-diabetic with high blood pressure, to the person I am today—I share how the philosophy of "No Zero Days" revolutionized my existence.
This concept is beautifully simple yet profoundly effective: refuse to let a single day pass without making at least a 1% improvement toward becoming a better version of yourself. Whether it's reading a few pages, having one meaningful conversation, eating a healthy meal, or exercising briefly—these seemingly insignificant actions compound dramatically over time.
Your life reflects thousands of choices made consistently, not occasional heroic efforts. The beauty of this approach lies in its flexibility and personalization. Some days you might focus on physical health, others on intellectual growth or relationships. What matters isn't where you direct your energy but your commitment to never having a day where you do absolutely nothing to improve.
What I've experienced is that as you steadily advance through consistent daily effort, the gap between you and those who remain stagnant widens almost imperceptibly at first, then dramatically over time. People stuck in negative patterns begin feeling uncomfortable around your growing energy and momentum.
Time isn't your enemy—it's your greatest ally when harnessed properly. While most fear wasting time, they paradoxically let it slip away without meaningful progress, hiding behind excuses that haven't stopped countless others from achieving remarkable transformations through consistent daily effort.
Stop waiting for the perfect moment to begin your journey. Start today with whatever small action you can manage, then repeat tomorrow. The extraordinary person you're capable of becoming isn't created through revolutionary change but through thousands of small, intentional choices compounded daily. What will your 1% be today?

Hello, hello and welcome back everybody to Compounding Daily. I'm your host, miguel Sanchez, and welcome back to another episode. I am, first and foremost, grateful that you are here with me, grateful that you've been a part of this journey. This is episode 109 and, believe me, like 50 felt like a milestone, 75 felt like a milestone, 100 was a huge milestone because, in my own opinion, the biggest challenge with working towards something that you want to achieve is the consistency, and I feel that that is where I have failed most of my life and where most people continue to fail in their lives. And to know that we are approaching episode 110 and the momentum is not going to go anywhere, and to know that I am gaining value not just from speaking and listening to myself talk, but from the conversations that I'm receiving from the people that I'm meeting because of this little community. And I just want to start by saying today thank you, I appreciate you and let's get right into it.
Speaker 1:Clearly, a solo episode. Lately I've just been banging out solo episodes. As I record this, I did sleep in. I have a little bit more food in my system, so I'm feeling a little bit energized today and while I have the energy in me. I want to be able to speak value into your life. I want to be able to take you on a journey of curiosity. The goal remains the same that when I stop talking, when you stop listening, you're not sitting there feeling inadequate, or you're not sitting there comparing yourself to me, but you're sitting there, hopefully, with a little bit more enthusiasm as to the things that you can create in the person that you can become, because those are the things that I emphasize on the most.
Speaker 1:And I have a topic in mind today, something that, as I always say, is just going to be short and I'll be done when I'm done. Could be 10 minutes, could be 30. I don't know. I don't write anything down. Lately I haven't been even been recording videos for the lack of energy, which is my excuse. I know that I can do it, but I just don't want to, if I'm being quite honest. So I'm able to sit here by myself, converse, run through the thoughts in my mind, and this is a form of therapy for me. And as you watch me struggle with the things that I'm going to speak about, I hope that in my own struggles, you're able to find something that enlightens you and fills you with hope and understanding that you are capable of great things. Before I get into that topic specifically, I want to always be that reminder right.
Speaker 1:Some people might have already pressed pause and they're not even listening anymore, but if you've made it this far, then let me be the first person on a Monday morning to remind you that a good day should not be dependent on the things that are outside of your control, but instead a good day should be dependent on how you show up and for most people, as you're listening to this, if you're listening to this on a Monday, I got friends that I know listen to it on Thursday, whenever the case may be. As you're listening to this, remind yourself that the attitudes of others, the conversations of others, the pessimistic thoughts of poison and negativity of others are out of your control. But what is in your control is the attitude you bring, is the conversation you have with yourself, and that conversation could be dominantly held on the negative side of life, about the lack of financial stability, the lack of success in your life, the lack of an unhealthy body, or it could be focused on the positive side of things the abundance of the food around you, the abundance of the opportunities around you, the abundance of all the things that will give you a chance to become better, should you appreciate them. To begin with, I love to be the reminder that Monday doesn't have to suck unless you allow it to suck, and if last Monday sucked, this one doesn't have to be a repetition of that Again. If it sucks because you have a constant variable in your life, then what needs to change isn't that constant variable, it's you and your perspective towards it at the moment, as you move on from that chapter in your life and all of that, to simply say happy Monday, let's win together, let's get better together, let's grow and with that, let's get right into the topic Today's topic.
Speaker 1:I don't take credit for. I don't take credit for like 99% of the things that I speak about. I want you guys to understand something the person I've become is just a result of me learning from the great humans of history and learning from their mistakes and being interested in what they think about and what they experienced, and then implementing whatever I can into my life. And did it all work? Absolutely not. Most of it didn't not for me, but the things that did work for me is what has led me, from whom I call Fat Miguel. If you're new to the page, fat Miguel was 289 pounds, his neck was turning black because he was pre-diabetic, blood pressure was through the roof, his cholesterol was high. He was angry all the time. He was high all the time. And if that's your first time ever listening to me describe Fat Miguel, I'm not just making a person up Go on my Instagram and you will see the person that I used to be.
Speaker 1:And as I fast forward now six, seven years, I want to speak about the thing that I probably speak about the most is actually the meaning behind the name of the show Compounding Daily. It is something that I've spoken about, but I don't know if I've spoken about it in this way before. I know I've done morning messages about it, but not maybe an episode. So let's just start with what we all know. If you know Miguel, you know that Miguel says all the time 1% better every single day, 1% better every single day. I remind myself of that every single day, because the 1% isn't 1% better every other day. 1% better once a week is 1% better every single day, and, with that in mind, I want you to bear with me as I explain the importance of this, right, because what I want to talk about is something that I learned a few years ago and I wish that I could remember.
Speaker 1:It was a book, a seminar, it was something, and the idea behind this is that, as an individual, you can choose to have no zero days, right, and at first you're probably like what does that mean, no zero days? Well, he just said 1% better. So he probably just means earning 1% better every day instead of earning 0% every day, right, and if that's what you guessed, 100% you're on the money. Why? Because getting better doesn't have to be complicated. It could be simple, and to most people, they see that 1% as this big stepping stone that they have to get over, and it doesn't have to be that drastic. Does everything you do matter Absolutely? And that's what I believe in anyways, but not to the extent where, if one day is not as great as another, then that means your life isn't going well. No, what I like to focus on is this Understand that your life is a reflection of the choices that you've made.
Speaker 1:I've said that thousands of times at this point, right, so you have to understand that it wasn't one choice that created you. It was thousands and thousands of choices, most of them compounded daily. Right, this is what I'm talking about. Compounding daily over a long period of time has led you to where you are. So, if you understand that as a foundational standpoint, like you say okay, so I am a reflection of the choices that I made. So what has to change? If you are dissatisfied with anything in your life, if you are dissatisfied with your body, your physical body, you just have to look at the choices you're repeating over and over again when it comes to nutrition.
Speaker 1:Right, if you feel like socially, you're not thriving, like socially you don't have many friends, you're not accepted into the social groups, you feel like you're lacking adventure through the experience of engaging with other people, then maybe what needs to change is the way in which you approach people. Right, and again, this isn't something that happens overnight. This is something that takes consistent practice. Right, and now, let's say you feel like you're lacking intellect. Let's just say, like you feel like you're not smart, like you open a book and you just can't retain, okay, and you've accepted those things. And now the character that you've become is one who's overweight, doesn't have many good friends, quality friends and feels like a dummy all the time. This is just an example, by the way. I'm not like coming at you. If anything, that is exactly how I felt before.
Speaker 1:So, if anything, I'm describing myself here and as I caught myself with all these different aspects of life in a position of man this sucks, I suck, life sucks. A position of man this sucks, I suck, life sucks. How did I get here? Oh, that's right, I've been making bad decisions for most of my life now, and not bad, thrown in prison, bad, but bad enough for me to feel the consequences of them. Bad enough for me to look at the man in the mirror and say I'm not happy with you, I don't like you, I don't like you looking at me, stop looking at me, put a shirt on, put those away. That's not right, you know. And in that position, I gave myself a choice.
Speaker 1:And then I came across the zero days idea, and the idea is very simple. I'll go a little bit in depth with it. The idea, as I said, is just to make sure that not a day goes by where you are not working towards something that would lead to the betterment of the self. I'll say the most important part again not a day goes by. Imagine who you could become if you say socially, physically, mentally, spiritually, there are things that need to be worked on. That is such a great place to be because nobody's perfect. Everybody has things that need to be worked on.
Speaker 1:And then, as you accept that as your reality, you don't become discouraged, you don't tell yourself, man, maybe one day you say I'm just going to focus on earning 1% towards one of these every single day. Right, because when I write 1% on my social media, I know that I, even I habitually think of 1%. That's all he's earned today, 1%. But you got to understand, 1% is just what I write. But the goal is always to hit more on the head, right? And what I mean is this I have my goals set physically. I have my goals set financially. I got my goals set socially, and I'm very aware that not every day am I going to check every single one of those boxes, but the goal is to check as many of those boxes at the end of every single day.
Speaker 1:So, did I eat my meals? Did I read the books? Did I listen to something inspiring? Did I go to the gym? Did I show my fiance affection, love and compassion? Did I associate with my coworkers? Did I engage in a conversation about enthusiasm with a friend or a stranger? Did I meet somebody new? Was my attitude correct? Did I disrespect anybody? You see what I'm saying. Everything that I just said for me carries the value of 1%. So if I'd add the end of the day out of those, for example, 10, I hit 7, 7% better today, but I'm not going to do that every day because then I'm going to have to make a list and start tracking everything. Right.
Speaker 1:But the goal, it's very simple. I refuse to allow myself to hit the pillow at the end of the day and tell myself today I did nothing productive. Today I didn't do anything towards my physical, my mental, my spiritual, my social. I didn't do anything. I just woke up, I ate, I existed, and now I'm going back to bed. And it doesn't have to be dramatic. It doesn't mean you have to wake up at 4 in the morning and do a cold plunge and run outside in the freezing cold and come back in and then meditate for an hour and then write it in your journal and then you have your first meal with just two eggs and eight ounces. You don't have to do all these dramatic things. Remember, life is very personal. Life is only seen through your eyes. People can observe you 24-7, but nobody will understand what it's like to be in your shoes and therefore you get to decide where you're going to earn that 1%, and you don't need people to understand you as you start working on earning that 1% every single day.
Speaker 1:What I've experienced, what I've observed, is that, over time, those who are not earning anything feel uncomfortable around you because, all of a sudden, well, what are you doing today? You don't say it directly, but what you're saying is I'm earning another percentage and as time progresses and you remain the same, I grow as you continue to make the wrong decisions. Your zero percent has now been reduced to a negative value and now you might find yourself in negative seven, negative eight, negative nine. You get what I'm saying, but not me. Not me. I'm earning. I'm earning my one percent. I'm showing up what I don't want to. I'm learning when I don't want to. I'm eating the meals that I don't want to right because I want to give into temptation. I want to come home from eating the meals that I don't want to right Because I want to give into temptation. I want to come home from work and not think about the gym and just turn on the TV and sit down with a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream because I love that right, and just not think about anything. But who will I be by the end of my life if, every day, that's the man that I decided to become, man that I decided to become? No zero days. Adapt it, believe it, accept it. Refuse to renegotiate the percentage, it doesn't matter in what aspect of life, but stop time from allowing to pass you by without you earning that 1% from it.
Speaker 1:Time is your friend. Time feels like an enemy to many, but time does not discriminate. Time is just a tool. Time is how you observe and track. Time is what most people fear of wasting. Time is what most people waste. Time is what most people waste. How are you spending yours as the days go by? Are you getting better or are you justifying your lack of initiative, effort and enthusiasm towards life on excuses like I'm old or I have children, or you don't understand.
Speaker 1:And if you only knew what I've been through, let me tell you something. We've all been through something. People with children are out there succeeding, people with more difficult circumstances than you and I are out there earning that 1% and at first glance you may look at somebody doing less than you and maybe you make the assumption that, oh, look at that person, they're not doing any good. Okay, but what if they're earning that 1%? And what if you're remaining the same? I promise you, if that person just continues to earn that 1% over the next year, by the time you come across them, they're going to look completely different. So why can't you? You know, if there's anything that I've learned on my personal journey so far and this is why I refuse to ever pat myself on the back because I've done nothing great as I observe my story and I show people who I used to be and how I used to talk and how I used to think, they're just like wow, man, you're a whole different person.
Speaker 1:How did you do it? And I'm like, well, that's the thing, like I'm literally telling you guys how I did it. And there is no luxury grand theme story. It's just I was tired of who I was and I decided I don't want to be like this for the rest of my life. And then I said, well, I'm going to learn from the people whom I look up to and whom I feel are adding value to my life. And then I went to YT University, which is YouTube University, and I got motherfucking certified because I was a student full time, watching the seminars, learning about human intelligence, learning about emotional intelligence, learning, most importantly, about myself and the things that make me tick and the things that get me angry and the things that fill me with life. I learned how to appreciate who I was, despite me hating who I was at the time, with the understanding that if I just stay consistent enough for a long period of time, this person I was staring at with so much anger, sadness, hate and anxiety will no longer exist, because not because I've killed him, but because I've molded something better out of him.
Speaker 1:The only way you're going to do something like that is not by showing up once a week. It's not by earning 1% every other day or every other week week. It's not by earning 1% every other day or every other week. It's by showing up consistently. It's by compounding daily. All right, that's it. That's the message, short to the point, that there is no need to make things difficult for yourself.
Speaker 1:You can read all the books. Knowledge is not power. Knowledge is potential power. It's action that leads you to power, because without action you don't get results. Without results, you don't understand where you are. If you don't understand where you are, it's because you're lacking experience. So go experience, and the only way you're going to run into the best version of yourself is by earning 1% is by building momentum every single day and, like I said, some days the food aspect might not be so well. You went out, you had a few drinks and you ate a pizza. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 1:Were you still a good person with an attitude? A good attitude, I mean, did you show up as the best version of yourself? Did you engage in positive? You get what I'm saying. Just look for little victories every single day. Did you show up as the best version of yourself? Did you engage in positive? You get what I'm saying. Just look for little victories every single day. That's the best way that I can put it.
Speaker 1:That is what no zero days means.
Speaker 1:It simply means that you have a responsibility as an individual, and as an individual, the quality of your life is up to you, and if you're not happy with where you are, then something has to change, and I promise you, as easy as it sounds. It's a lot harder. But you can wake up and say today I'm just going to earn 1%, today I'm just going to do something good for me, and then I'm going to do it again tomorrow and the day after that, and the day after that and after a month. Guess what? You might not see shit. That's okay, because you're going to keep going and going and with time you continue to prove to yourself that you do do difficult things, that you can show up despite adversity, that obstacles are just a stepping stone and with giving enough time, consistency and persistency, you will become a better individual and over time, over a long period of time, you will become extraordinary. Refuse to allow the days to go by without you earning that 1%. No zero days. Let's win together Until next time.
