EP133- The magic we seek.

Miguel Sanchez Episode 133

Lets us know your thoughts thru TEXT!

What if the breakthrough you’ve been searching for is hiding in plain sight—specifically in the tasks, conversations, and challenges you’ve been actively avoiding?

Chris Williamson’s deceptively simple quote captures this perfectly: “The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.” While not revolutionary in complexity, its truth hit me hard. I realized I had been avoiding my dreams of podcasting and speaking out of fear—fear of judgment, technical mistakes, and potential failure. When I finally chose to confront those fears and do the very things I knew I needed to do but had avoided for so long… everything changed.

The pattern became undeniable in every area of my life. My weight-loss journey stalled for years because I avoided the gym and resisted learning about nutrition. My professional growth accelerated only when I stopped dodging uncomfortable conversations and challenges. The speaking opportunities, university invitations, and community connections I now cherish would never have materialized had I continued avoiding what made me uncomfortable.

This isn’t unique to me. I’ve noticed that breakthrough moments almost always occur when people face the very things they’d rather avoid. That internal nudge you feel—the one pointing toward something difficult but potentially rewarding—is your compass.

So, what are you avoiding right now that could transform your life? Identify what’s holding you back—fear, doubt, insecurity—and take that first step. You may not reach the exact destination you imagined, but the growth that comes from facing avoidance creates momentum that compounds daily.

What magic awaits you on the other side of what you’re avoiding today?

Speaker 1:

Hello, hello and welcome back everybody to Compounding Daily. I'm your host, miguel Sanchez. Welcome back to another episode, episode 133. We are making progress. I like to think with consistency and getting the reps in. Without doubt, we are getting better and, as always, thank you for being here. Thank you for setting some time aside, uh, to be here with me, to uh basically listen to me rant about the thoughts that I have on the daily, the things that keep me motivated, the things that I'm having difficulty with.

Speaker 1:

My goal is simple, and that is to tell you about what I'm going through in hopes that you gain some value from it. Um, and that comes in the form of different perspectives, different ideas, current difficulties, whatever it may be. Regardless of the fact, I always appreciate the fact that, even if it's 10 views a week or a thousand views a week, I love the idea that I am helping at least one person, and I always get that in the feedback, through social media or the text messages or the phone calls, and I just wanted to always express how grateful I am, because I don't take this for granted. I know that in today's world, anybody could buy a microphone, anybody could make a podcast, but, in my own opinion, a lot of those don't provide value. Sure, if they're meant for entertainment, they entertain. But when it comes to what I like, to what I like to word as such, when it comes to taking an individual to a place of curiosity where they sit and reflect upon their lives and the consequences and the past and the future, and the possibilities and the fears and the doubts, those things are not typically spoken about and I take pride in being able to bring that to you. So today's going to be a short episode. It is Sunday night, later in the evening the day got ahead of me and I don't have much to say, but I will hit the mark in regards to achieving the goal. So understand something Everything that I've done in my own personal life to go from, if you've been with me for a while, fat Miguel to Miguel, the one speaking to you now has has not been something extraordinary.

Speaker 1:

I like to keep things basic. I believe in the power of repetition, and I mean that in all forms of the word. Right, if what you physically repeat, you become what you constantly think, you act, what you constantly speak is what you begin to see out in the world, and those are just, you know little beliefs of mine out in the world, and those are just you know little beliefs of mine. But I want to emphasize on something because it is. It is on those perspectives, right, those approaches of my life that I like to share with you. This simple quote. And it's not drastic, it's not like oh my God, I've never thought of that before, but it's simple, so simple that I've adapted it into my daily inspiration when I'm in need of something that's going to keep me going right, because I'm a human being and I wake up and I'm exhausted and I'm tired and I don't want to go through the motions, and sometimes I need to remind myself why I'm doing the things that I'm doing, and sometimes that comes in the form of a quote, and that is what I want to speak today.

Speaker 1:

I want to speak of a quote by this guy. His name is Chris Williamson. He has a podcast and he does absolutely wonderful work. It's called Modern Wisdom and I listened to it quite a lot. And this quote I listened to a few years ago and it's just one of those things where, if you're like me, you don't just hear things except them, think about it for maybe a second and then you never think about it again. I believe if something stirs my soul, if something gets my emotions going, if something really puts me in a state of pensiveness, I like to keep it with me, because I don't believe in coincidences. I believe there's a reason for that, and the quote goes like this. It's very simple. It says the magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding. Right Again, like I said, you hear that and there is no fireworks or no big aha moment. I believe it's so simple that it was like a slap to my face when I heard it for the first time. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding, by Chris Williamson. And that stuck with me because I remember clearly, like if it was yesterday.

Speaker 1:

Uh, I, the battle I was having internally was the battle as to am I a speaker, am I going to do the podcast, am I going to record actual reels instead of 10-second morning messages? Because that was all that was allowed at the time and I knew what I needed to do. I knew I just needed to go to YouTube University. I knew that I could just buy a simple microphone needed to go to YouTube University. I knew that I could just buy a simple microphone. I know that I didn't need a thousand dollar kind of camera and a whole light setup and sound system etc. You know, I know I didn't need all those things. All I needed was a little bit of effort towards the dream that I was holding on to very dearly.

Speaker 1:

And for me, that was the very things that I was avoiding, because I was uncomfortable, because I was worried about things that I was avoiding, because I was uncomfortable, because I was worried about the fear of judgment, because I was worried about the fear of failure. I avoided the very things that I knew I needed to do in order to become better, all because I was afraid of a possible outcome. And because I'm a human being, intuitively I always went to the negative side of what ifs. What if they make fun of me? What if I sound stupid? What if I stutter? What if I breathe hard on the mic? What if the sound doesn't sound right and you can hear the cats in the background and everything that I just said. It's really what I went through. Every single one of those things really happened. In one episode, my cat fell through the ceiling, you know. And then those things happen and I wouldn't be here you know 133 episodes in I wouldn't have had the opportunity to speak at universities, I wouldn't have the friends that I have, the life that I'm experiencing, the people in my community. I wouldn't have any of these things if I avoided the things that made me uncomfortable.

Speaker 1:

And that's where the beauty of this quote comes in. That's why it keeps me going, because a lot of times I find myself wanting to procrastinate, wanting to push something back, all in the name of avoidance. And then I hear Chris Williamson in my ear just saying the magic you are looking for is in the work you're avoiding. Stop avoiding it, just do the work. Stop avoiding it, just do the work. Stop, okay, I get it and I get moving. You get what I mean.

Speaker 1:

Call me a maniac, I don't know. I don't know if that's how you think, but that's how I think. I like to be hard on myself. I like to be strict with myself. I don't like to negotiate with myself, but I always bring myself back to the.

Speaker 1:

I'm just a human being, just like you, and not every day is perfect. And sometimes I give into temptation and sometimes I give into the doubts and the fears. Right, I go through those things, but I don't let that become my primary thought of action. I don't allow that to be the primary conversation happening within. I like to remind myself like hey, man, time is fleeting, why are you avoiding it? What is the worst possible outcome? Oh, you're probably exaggerating that in your head is probably not going to be as bad.

Speaker 1:

And I can't speak for everybody besides myself, because that is the experience that I'm going through. And I can't speak for everybody besides myself, because that is the experience that I'm going through. But I can also speak for the authors who have written about their life story and shared about where they began and how they got there and the things that they had to overcome. And I can speak for them and I've read hundreds of these books already and I can speak for myself and I can vouch and safely say that every time they hit a big breakthrough and every time something great happened, any time preparation met opportunity and they came together and allowed something to blossom, it was in the middle of doing the things that they did not want to be doing. And I mean that. Look into it, read the books, message me I'll send you a picture of my library. And it's simple. It doesn't have to be difficult, right? You know what I call it? A good intuition. If you have good intuition, you have what feels like a finger just poking you in the chest, trying to nudge you forward, telling you hey man, you can accomplish more. Hey man, stop avoiding this, do this. And this applies to absolutely everything, everything in life.

Speaker 1:

When it came to losing weight, for me, right, it was difficult, because what was I avoiding? The gym. And then I went to the gym and then I lost the weight. And then I hit a plateau and I knew what I needed to do. I needed to learn a little bit more about my nutrition, I needed to learn a little bit more about rest and recovery, and I knew those things, but I chose to ignore it. Right, and I didn't get to the physique that I wanted until seven years later. Why? Because I started doing the difficult things that I should have been doing from the beginning, but I had to go through the other things and I had to learn my own journey and in the way that I was avoiding things, but in not avoiding those things and trying to put effort into it and giving myself some time, I started doing the very things that I was dreaming of at one point the speakings, the relationship, the friends, the health, the financial situation all of it. Something that I just dreamed of at one point is now my reality. Detach the ego from that. I don't need a pat on the back. As I always emphasize, I'm not a special individual and all of that happened because I simply chose to do the things that most people avoid.

Speaker 1:

Whatever that may be for you, whatever it is that you're avoiding, stop avoiding it. What could be on the other side is the best version of you. What could be on the other side of that avoidance is an opportunity for growth. If you adapt the mentality that you never take a loss. There's only lessons. Then, at the end of whatever may be and whatever it is you're avoiding, a lesson is guaranteed. You will get better.

Speaker 1:

So, happy Monday. Begin the week with a good attitude. Make sure that you don't allow the negative energy of others to contaminate your attitude, right? Make sure that when people come across your path, you're the one exuding that radiating energy of positive attitude, positive mental attitude, right? A simple smile can make somebody else's day, you know.

Speaker 1:

And as you approach Monday, I ask you one simple question. Think about this. What is it that you're avoiding that you know you should do, you know you could do, and you are not doing it. Why is it that you are avoiding it? What's holding you back? Think about that. Is it fear? Is it doubt? Is it insecurity? Is it a difficult conversation? Is it going to be comfortable physically? Whatever it may be, you never know what's on the other side of that difficulty. So don't avoid it and instead have that curiosity to go and explore a little bit and, as you go explore, understand that life isn't perfect. So, at the end of that journey that you are seeking, you may not reach a destination that you wanted to, but that's okay, because you didn't stay in place and, most importantly, you didn't avoid. So, with that being said, think. Think for yourself, think about your life, think about the conversation happening internally, think about the consequences of your actions, think and together let's get better.
