EP142- You Are Not Special, And That’s The Point
Lets us know your thoughts thru TEXT!
Stop waiting to be the exception and start stacking proof. Dive into the liberating idea that you’re not special in the way that exempts you from the basics—and why that’s the best news for your growth. Instead of chasing hacks, we focus on the curriculum everyone faces: discipline over moods, cleaner inputs, better words, and emotional control. When you treat setbacks as tests rather than punishments, you stop repeating grades and begin to graduate through life with intention.
I share why a structured challenge like 75 Hard can ignite momentum, not because it’s trendy, but because rules remove negotiation and build self-trust. Each small win becomes evidence that shifts identity from “trying” to “doing.” We contrast the fantasy of an easy life with the reality that adversity gives your story weight, your habits staying power, and your results durability. No one skips the elementary school of life; the ones you admire simply passed more tests, more often, with fewer excuses.
If you’re tired of feeling stuck, this conversation gives you a map: choose your Monday attitude, master the basics, embrace the test in front of you, and repeat. You don’t need special treatment to change—only a standard you’ll honor when it’s inconvenient. Listen, reflect, and then ask yourself what small test will you pass today? If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs a push, and as always Thank you for listening

Hello and welcome back, everybody, to Compounding Daily. I'm your host, Miguel Sanchez, and welcome back to another episode, episode 142. If you've been with me for a while, then you know what I'm going to say. And I always begin my episode, especially as of late, with simply saying thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for choosing to spend some time with me. My goal as you uh enjoy this conversation with me is always the same. It is to give you some form of value. Sure, I hope to entertain, but I'm not uh by definition an entertainer, I'm not here to just make you feel good about yourself. Uh, my job is to give you the things that have led me to where I am today, and where I am today is not very far, you know, in comparison to how far I want to go. But if you compare me to who I was seven years ago, I promise you I've become irrecognizable. And it's not because I'm special, it's not because some miraculous thing happened to me, it's simply because I accepted that the thing that was wrong in my life wasn't everything around me, it was my thoughts, my actions, the conversations, my environments that I was allowing myself to be in, the people that surrounded me, that I was choosing to be with, right? So I started taking full accountability of my life, and now you fast forward seven years later, and I can say that I've gathered enough evidence to say that the things that I've implemented into my life work, and if they work for me, they must work for you. And of course, we all walk different paths. Some things may not stick, some things you may not agree with, and that's okay. I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm here to tell you what worked for me and hopes that in some of it you gather value, implement it into your own life and benefit, like I did. So, with that being said, thank you for being here. Yes, it's Monday, the beginning of a brand new week, and with that, you get to choose, right? You get to choose the perspective and attitude in which you're going to show up this week with. And if you're like most people, chances are you're not even listening to this, but you are not like most people. Chances are you are listening to this in preparation for the upcoming week with the understanding that you as an individual get to decide this week, this is how I want to show up. This is what I want to accomplish. These are the things that I must work on, and I will make sure that when I step out of my home, when I step out into the real world, I am not hindering the progress of others, I am not an inconvenience to others, I am not the reason why others are now failing, but instead I want to make sure that the people who come across my path are left better because of it, or left at least wondering how much better they could become because of it. Uh it's the simplest changes in in in character, physical character, instead of walking with good morning, everybody, and you know, happy Monday. Is it Friday yet? Oh 17 years, six months, two days, 13 days, and whatever until I retire. You don't want to be that guy. Nobody likes that guy, nobody likes to be around that guy, except the people who are just like that guy. Misery loves company. Make sure that you are not the one directing the misery, and make sure that you don't allow misery to suck you back in. So, with that being said, I have uh a short message today. Uh, obviously, I don't have to say this, but lately I've been doing a bunch of solo episodes. I've been enjoying the the uh what's the word that I'm looking for? I've been enjoying my my emptiness in this studio. Uh, when I sit here by myself, it allows reflection, it allows me to think about the things that I am doing, the things that I am working on. And with that, I always aim to paint a picture. And with that picture, I always want to give you a sense of direction. I want to give you something to think about. I always love to lead people to curiosity, never to a place of understanding. I want you to be curious enough to start questioning the things in your own life. And with that, I want to get into today's episode. I'm here by myself, and this is something that I picked up uh uh as of late. I'm doing 75 Hard again as I record this is day 21. I'm so grateful. Uh, momentum is building. I'm halfway done through my second book, and uh the mind is running. Uh, the the enthusiasm towards everything that I could accomplish is is is over overwhelming me. And I am so grateful, and I am actually uh excited to be here because I get to share these things with you. And today's message is gonna be something that uh I believe we all know, but I believe it's something that we all must be reminded of. And it goes like this we are all different, sure, yes, we are all individuals. Uh we can agree with that. We all walk different paths. Uh, even when we walk a path that's already been walked on before, the attitude, the approach in which we walk that path can lead us to a different destination. So I don't believe there's there's such a thing as a copy and paste of us. I believe we each are placed on this earth with the freedom of choice, and with that freedom, it is our duty to create something wonderful out of ourselves. So here's what I want to emphasize on in today's episode. You are not special. I know that contradicts everything that I just said, right? But bear with me, I'll explain. We are special in the sense of we are a human being having a human experience, and we can create something good out of it that will benefit those around us. We are special in that sense. When I say that we are not special, you are not special, I am not special, what I mean by that is that there are certain things in life that we will go through, that we must go through in order to become, in order to achieve, in order to create. Right? Because if you wake up and in your mind you've convinced yourself that you don't have to go through hardships, that you are different, that you are smarter than everybody. So therefore, you deserve more and you deserve better opportunities. And in your head, you've convinced yourself that you are just different, that you don't need to go to elementary school, just send you right to college where everybody's already gone through the years of experience because you are just special. You are not, you have to go through the elementary phase of life, and I'm not referring to school, so please don't don't don't uh misinterpret that. I just mean like life has a set of values that is foundational, and I believe that we as individuals have to go through that school of life, that basic understanding that all things worth having require time, understanding that discipline is a must, not a when you feel like it, in order to achieve the understanding that uh healthy foods lead to a healthy body, which leads to healthy movements, which leads to a healthier actions, which leads to healthier results overall, right? Everything that I just said is not like mind-blowing. Oh my god, what did he just say? Repeat it, amazing. No, I didn't say anything crazy, but for some reason, you don't have to look far to find people who feel as if they can skip that elementary part. They feel like if they can skip a the basic understandings of life, as if they can just go and just wake up one day and say, I am great and therefore I deserve. It doesn't work like that. We must be better than that. We must start off small and gradually work our way towards greatness. Why? Because that is how everybody has done it. And now you may argue with me and say, Well, what about this guy? Yeah, if you find one person who just skipped all of it and just went straight to greatness, guess what? One in a billion, most likely. The chances of you being one of those slim to none. So, what will you do with your life? How will you approach it? Get rid of that ignorant belief that you are better than others. Over time, you can become better than others, right? Because some people refuse to get better. Some people are waiting, idling, hoping and wishing that things get better while others take action, make plans, stay consistent, practice discipline, and they get better over time. Sure, you can say you're better than some people because some people just refuse to grow. But what I'm saying is don't ever limit yourself to saying that you can't get better and you are stuck where you are, while the reality of life is you maybe just haven't graduated that elementary part of life. Maybe you haven't passed the test because that is where I found myself quite often. Life handed me a test, and I said, Why do you keep testing me? I'm not taking this test, just give me what I want. Why do you keep beating around the bush? I told you I want to be healthy, I want to be wealthy, I want to have a great life, and you keep giving me bullshit life. And life is like, Well, how can you expect to have a great life? How can you expect to be wealthy and healthy if you can't even pass the small test I'm giving you about emotional control, about practicing patience, about being mindful of the words you speak, about not spreading poison to the life of others? Life told me I've been giving you opportunities your whole life for growth, and you continue to not take them with your actions, with your words, with your behaviors, with your attitudes, with your unrealistic expectation that you're just gonna wake up one day, skip all the basics of life, and just be at the I'm great part. It doesn't work like that, believe me. You know, I'm sorry if you thought that this was a motivational podcast or an inspiring podcast. I I like to think that I paint pictures of reality, and reality isn't just rainbows and butterflies, reality is hurtful, reality is painful, reality will make you uncomfortable. And the sooner you understand that life isn't against me, life has nothing against me whatsoever, life has nothing against me, so much so that it didn't give me anything when I was born. It just said I'm gonna put you in the same level as everybody else, and good luck from there. And good luck was given. Good luck was given in the form of lesson after lesson after lesson until I eventually said, Life, okay, I get it. I'm gonna try my best to learn these lessons, and learned I did and fast forward seven years. Am I healthy and wealthy and and and all of those things? No, but I am so much closer than I was before. I take that back, I am healthy, right? But wealthy, monetarily wise, something I'm still aiming for. I am wealthy in other forms, but guess what? As I aim for the riches of life, as I tell life, man, I really want that Lamborghini. Life is like, and you can have it, but first, you gotta become the kind of person that deserves it, the kind of person that has earned it, the kind of person that has proved to me, and by me I mean life, that you are deserving of. Not because you whined enough, not because you bitched enough about it, but because you proved time and time again that when things got difficult, when life gave you a test, even if the test was a basic test of of inconvenience, you accepted the test, you overcame the test, you learned the lesson the test was trying to teach you, and you put yourself back out there as a not a great individual, but as a slightly better individual. And that is what I'm referring to. Small and and gradually work your way towards that greatness. Get rid of the oh, but things should be easier. What do you mean things should be easier? According to who? For what? What do you get out of easy? Look at it from this perspective. I'll never forget about this because it painted things into perspective for me. And and I I work off analogies and and they they allow clarity for a simple mind like mine. And uh it goes like this Would you watch this movie? Uh the movie begins, and the guy found the love of his life, and as the movie progresses, the guy gets his dream career, and now his wife is pregnant, and he's been promoted in the business, and now the kid is born, and the kid is healthy and and full of life, and the kid gets into one of the best schools, and the wife is uh uh uh uh thriving in her own life, and the husband everything's going well, and basically the whole movie is everything was just handed to this family, and and at the end of the movie, um, there is no death or nothing. Like by the end of the movie, the the the son had children now. The main character is a grandparent, and everything goes well, and it ends with the camera panning out, celebrating a Christmas, as everybody's just happy. Does that sound like a movie you want to watch? Because to me, that sounds boring, right? To me, I say, where's the adversity? When is something wrong gonna happen here? I'm waiting because I'm bored, right? And it's the same thing to our own lives. If you woke up and from the second you were born, like life told you, hey, don't worry about anything. I got you. You want money, I got it. You want health, don't worry about it. You want wealth, I got it. You want good friends, I got it. You don't have to fight for anything, it's all yours simply because you were born into it. That life is not worth living. That life is one that doesn't understand uh appreciation. That life is one that doesn't understand that it's through difficulties, through challenges, that we become the person we are meant to be, and it's not because somebody else went through the challenges and told us about it, it's because we chose to go through them ourselves. That movie I want to watch. The movie who begins with uh the husband and the wife, all you know, it in a beautiful home, and then out of nowhere, everything falls apart, the house burns down, he loses his wife, uh, it's misery, it's painful. And now the movie is about that man rebuilding his life, figuring out what went wrong, what could have been different. And at the end of the movie, there is an optimistic ending, right? That is the same thing with you. Right now, you may feel like your life is falling apart, you may feel like things aren't working out. Well, I'm here to tell you that the sooner you understand that everything life gives you is a test, and the second you view it as that, and you start taking the test and you look for the lesson in it, you will grow as an individual. But what happens to the people? Most people say, But I don't want to go through the time, I don't want to put in the effort. I just want my hopes and wishes to become reality, and I'm here to tell you, stupid, it doesn't work like that. We must be better than that. As my mentor says, Miguel, you have to be wiser than that. And wise I've I'm aiming to become we are no different from the people who are who have already succeeded. The only difference is that those people already graduated from the elementary school of life, while most of us are still in the elementary school of life, uh, not even thinking about the tests we have to overcome. We just keep looking over at the college side of life, saying, Man, I want to be over there. Yeah, you will be over there provided you graduate from the elementary school of life. I emphasize on the life part, I'm not talking about actual school. Right? So, with that being said, that's what I got today. That's my message today. I'll wrap it up with that. I'll wrap it up by telling you, you are not different from anybody, you are not special, you don't get special treatment. Life doesn't look at you different and say, Oh, you're getting more. No, those who get more most likely suffered more, overcame more. And in doing so, gathered more, learned more. The people I respect, the people I look up to, didn't get there overnight. They got there how by going to the school, accepting the lessons, learning the lessons, graduating from class after class, after class, after class, until at one point they made it to where they wanted to make it. Not because life finally said, Okay, okay, I'm gonna give you what you want, but because life said you've graduated, you've earned, you've become. What does your life look like? What will you amount it to? Will you do the work or will you sit idly by hoping that one day everything's handed to you? Because if that's the case, you're delusional. Think and together, let's get better.
