Welcome to Simplified Sparky Marketing.

You might find that opener funny, but honestly, it kills me inside.

Electricians using a Gmail or Outlook account for their business—this genuinely triggers me. And it happened again this week.

Someone on Instagram—who may even be listening to this podcast—had a beautiful van wrap. Professional logo. Clean design. Looked top-notch. Then, on the back of it? Their company name… and @gmail.com. And it f***ing killed me.

Because for less than $200 a year, you can set up Google Workspace, link your own domain, and have a professional email.

I’ve thought a lot about this—why do some people still stick with their sexysparky69@gmail.com or sparky2474u@outlook.com? The most common excuse?

"All my clients know this email, and I’m afraid of changing it. What if they send emails to my old address? It’ll be a mess!"

I get it. But there’s a way around that, and I’ll walk you through it later.

A few podcasts back, I talked about looking professional and getting paid professional rates. And I stand by that. I’ve had people whinge about getting beaten on price—but then I look at their setup: No sign-written van, no professional email, no website. And then they wonder why clients don’t take them seriously?

The truth is, maybe it’s not that you’re losing on price. Maybe the client just doesn’t trust you because of how you present yourself. Maybe they’re choosing a more expensive tradie because they think:

"That guy looks more professional. His work is probably better, too."

If a customer is comparing two quotes and they check your details: One business has a website and professional email. The other just has @gmail.com. Guess who instantly looks more legit?

Having a free Gmail or Outlook address subconsciously signals “small-time.” Clients will assume you’re cheaper, less professional, and maybe even a riskier choice. It’s the same reason why having a sign-written van vs. an unmarked white van matters. There’s a huge psychological factor at play.

Like I said before, it costs less than $200 a year, and it’s ridiculously easy to set up. I’ve put together a step-by-step guide with all the links you need. The whole process takes about 30 minutes. Buy a domain (if you don’t already have one for your website). Set up Google Workspace (which, by the way, is just Gmail in the backend). Link your domain to your Google email—so instead of using yourbusiness@gmail.com, you’ll be sending from yourname@yourbusiness.com. The best part? You still get to use Gmail’s system, but with a professional email address.

Here’s the biggest concern people have:

"But what if people keep emailing my old address?"

Easy fix: Set up email forwarding. Any email sent to sexysparky69@gmail.com will automatically forward to your new professional email. You won’t lose any leads, and you can still check old emails anytime. Over time, clients will naturally switch to using your new email. Problem solved.

I like to keep these podcasts short, sharp, and straight to the point—because everyone’s time is valuable. If you want the step-by-step process to set up your professional email, I’ve linked it below. Pop your name and email in, and I’ll flick it over to you in two twists of a plier.
