Put down that shiny new tool. Step away from the latest software. Welcome to Simplified Sparky Marketing.

Today, I want to talk about something that catches a lot of us out—chasing shiny objects. You know what I’m talking about—the latest software, the new AI gimmick, or whatever seems like it’s going to magically fix your business problems. Here’s the reality: It’s bullshit.

It’s like when a mate buys the latest power tool and suddenly thinks it’s going to make him a better tradie. But guess what? It’s not the tool that makes you better—it’s how you use it. And it’s the same in business. Just because you pick up the latest gadget or piece of software, it doesn’t mean your problems are solved. We’ve all been guilty of it—seeing that new, shiny thing and thinking it’s the missing piece. But the truth is, nothing replaces the fundamentals. You still have to put in the work, make the right moves, and focus on what actually drives results.

You don’t just buy a new tool and suddenly become a pro. You practice, you get skilled, and you make it part of your routine. Same goes for your business. Instead of chasing the next big thing, focus on being lean and efficient. Maximize what you already have. Use the tools and systems you've already invested in. Less is more—don't overload your business with unnecessary tech and gadgets. There’s nothing worse than cluttering your business with things that don’t actually solve your problems. So, take a step back and ask yourself—are you using what you’ve already got to its full potential?

These new tools and gadgets don’t fix your marketing. They don’t improve your lead flow. They don’t sort out your quoting process. They just distract you from what actually matters—getting the basics right. If you’re not nailing the fundamentals, no shiny object is going to save you. You’re better off doubling down on what’s working than constantly jumping to the next new thing.

Whenever a new tool or gimmick pops up, take a breath. Ask yourself: Is this solving a real problem I have? Or am I just chasing the next new thing because it sounds cool? If it’s actually useful, great—go for it. But most of the time, you’re better off sticking to your fundamentals: nail your systems, deliver quality work, stay consistent, and be lean and efficient—make the most of what you’ve already got.

Don’t get sucked into thinking the next shiny thing is the answer to your problems. The fundamentals always win. If you’re enjoying the podcast, make sure to follow and leave a review. Check out the links in the description for more no-nonsense marketing tips to help your electrical business grow.
