On that note, I was out for Paddyâs Dayâbeing a full stereotypeâhad a few Guinness in the city. Went to pay for two pints, and the guy goes, âThatâll be just $34.â Just! Itâs like me saying, âItâs just two grand to replace that PowerPoint.â Like itâs nothing.
Anyway, today weâre talking about frictionless paymentsâmaking it easier for clients to pay you, and getting money into your bank without chasing.
Not everyone sees my Instagram, not everyone gets my emails (hint: linkâs below), so Iâll go through this.
I use ServiceM8âbecause itâs the king. Donât care what anyone says. Itâs simple, powerful, and does what you need it to. One of the best features is ServiceM8 Pay, which is linked with Apple.
Hereâs the kickerâyou can pass on the card fee to your client. You can set a limit (mineâs $2K), and after that, they pay the fee. Below that, Iâll cop itâfine by me if it means I get paid quickly. The feeâs tiny anywayâ1.49% or so for regular cards. For me, $15 per thousand? Worth it to not chase the money.
And guess what? People donât even blink. They still tap. I give them three payment options:
- Bank transfer
- Card payment (no fee under $2K)
- PayID
PayIDâs another killerâmoney lands straight into your account. Just set it up under your ABN so it shows up properly. Makes paying frictionless, especially if youâre onsite.
Some people live week to week, juggling mortgage repayments, etc. So give them options. Let them tap a card. If it means they can pay now, job done.
This got me thinking again when I was back in Ireland. Went to a new coffee shop in town. The bloke used to run a coffee trailerânow heâs got a store. I was buzzing to support him. Ordered a flat white, had a yarn with the owner, and went to payâŚ
âSorry mate, weâre cash only.â
I was like, you what?
She said, âNo worries, you can pay tomorrow.â But I couldâve been flying back to Australia the next day. That happened multiple times at that shopâpeople in line with no cash. Across the road? Another cafĂŠ, card ready, in and out.
Thatâs the whole point. People want convenience. They want to tap and go. They donât want to leave, find an ATM, come back. Youâll lose clients that way.
And you might think youâre saving on card feesâbut youâre losing way more in missed business. If you charge $5.50 instead of $5 and include the fee, no oneâs gonna argue.
Same thing in your business. Donât make it hard for clients to pay. Donât send them long-winded invoices with BSBs and account numbers. Theyâll delay it. Theyâll forget. Or theyâll stuff it up.
With tools like ServiceM8, they can tap and pay on the spot. You donât even need an EFTPOS terminalâif youâve got a recent iPhone, it works straight off your phone. Thatâs wild.
So the takeaway? Make it dead easy to pay you. Whether it's PayID, tap-and-go, or ServiceM8 Payâremove the friction. Get that money in, fast. Thatâs what keeps the business running.
