Over the last 12 years, I've coached 1,200 women over 40. Women who are killing it in their careers running teams, raising families, holding everything together. They're smart, they've read all the books, tried all the diets and, deep down, they're exhausted from starting over Because, no matter how much they know, they're stuck in the same cycle Restrict, binge, shame, repeat. So let me say this up front what I'm about to share with you is not going to stroke your ego, it's not sugar-coated and it's probably not what you want to hear, but it is what you need to hear. This episode is for you if you feel out of control around food, if your schedule is chaos and if you keep snacking even when you're not hungry and don't know why. What I'm about to say could change everything for you. So stay with me, because some of what I'm about to share is never talked about. How do you create a life that allows you to lose weight, eat the foods that you love and sustain the results? Over the last 10 years, I've helped thousands of people do exactly that.
Max Lowery:I'm Max Lowery. I'm an author, personal trainer and weight loss coach. In this podcast, I'm going to share my top tips and tricks from within my one-on-one coaching program. It's my goal to give you the tools and understanding so that you never diet again. But first we have to talk about the ridiculous surface level advice out there which isn't just useless, it's actively ruining your life and relationship with food. Cut out carbs. Here's a meal plan. Eat 1200 calories. Smash these insane workouts seven days a week. It sounds impressive and it might feel empowering for about two weeks, but then it collapses under the weight of real life. And the worst part every time you fail, you blame yourself, your willpower, your discipline, your motivation. You start to believe that you are someone who can't stick to things, even though you are succeeding in your career and your family life. But the truth restriction does not work. It's a short-term, surface-level solution to a long-term, deep-rooted problem.
Max Lowery:To lose weight and keep it off successfully, you need to address the root cause of the problem. Instead of obsessing over what to eat. You need to understand why you eat. Why do you overeat? Why do you eat when you're not hungry? Why do you binge in the evening, even though you said you overeat? Why do you eat when you're not hungry? Why do you binge in the evening, even though you said you wouldn't? Because when you address the root cause. Your habits shift naturally.
Max Lowery:But here's the part no one tells you you can lose weight without overhauling your entire life and I know this sounds too good to be true, but it is true. Every single one of my clients is doing it. You can lose weight without tracking every gram of food, without going keto, without spending hours in the gym, without saying no to wine, chocolate or bread. In fact, most of my clients still eat 85% of the same foods. They don't obsess over clean eating. They go on holiday and continue to lose weight. We help them focus on rewiring their habits and identity so they become the woman who feels in control of the relationship with food and prioritizes themselves.
Max Lowery:It's not magic, it's basic behavioral change, science. And when you apply that science consistently, your relationship with food changes. You stop battling with willpower, you stop swinging between extremes. But to really make that shift you need to understand what's actually happening inside your body, because most women I speak to think they're addicted to food, but they're not. They're stuck in sugar burning mode. Their body is dependent on a constant stream of food just to function. They feel hungry all the time. They crave carbs and sugar, they overeat and their energy is a roller coaster and emotionally, they're using food to process their feelings, both good and bad. That's why they think about food constantly. That's why they eat when they're not hungry. These are the real reasons you overeat and no diet on earth fixes them. So until you stabilize your metabolism and stop using food to meet your emotional needs, you'll keep spinning in circles, stuck in guilt, stuck in shame, stuck in the belief that nothing works.
Max Lowery:But here's something else that keeps you stuck your expectations. Most women give up before the breakthrough. They expect fat loss to be fast, linear, predictable. It's not. It stalls, it plateaus, it feels like nothing is working. And that's not failure. That's the process. Because the truth that no one is telling you weight loss is just the beginning. You have to also keep it off for the rest of your life, and to do that you need to shift your mindset and your identity, because the version of yourself that got you here isn't going to get you to where you want to be.
Max Lowery:If you don't hold yourself to a higher standard and commit to that long-term identity shift, you will end up back at square one. Why? Because when things get hard, you'll default to the old version of you, and that's the version that skips workouts, eats emotionally and gives up where the scale doesn't move. This process takes time at least a year, usually longer. If you struggle with this for decades, it's going to take longer than 90 days to fully rewire it. So stop chasing fast. Start playing the long game, because long-term change isn't just about what you do. It's about how you think.
Max Lowery:And for most women, the biggest battle isn't with food, it's with the voice in their own head. If you eat the tub of ice cream and then wake up the next day calling yourself lazy, disgusting and hopeless, you're not holding yourself accountable, you're abusing yourself. And what happens next? You feel worse. You disconnect from your goals, you give up for the day or the week and you eat more to numb the shame you just inflicted. This is the guilt shame repeat cycle. It keeps you stuck. It reinforces the belief that you're weak, that you lack willpower, that you're destined to fail.
Max Lowery:And that voice in your head is not discipline. It's sabotaged, dressed as self-control. You don't need to be harder on yourself. You need to build trust with yourself. You don't need to be harder on yourself. You need to build trust with yourself. And that starts with compassion. Every single client in our program learns this. You cannot hate yourself into change. Change comes from when you talk to yourself like someone you love, when you ask what can I learn from this instead of what is wrong with me. Your inner voice drives your behavior. If you want lasting results, you need to become your biggest supporter, not your worst critic.
Max Lowery:Really quick one for me, guys. I don't run ads on this podcast and I do aim to give you as many high value tips and tricks as I can for free. All I ask in return is that you help me spread the word. That way I can help as many people as I can to never diet again. The way to do that is to rate, review and share this podcast. A review will only take 30 seconds, but it would mean the world to me. But more importantly, it could help change the life of someone else. Change the life of someone else.
Max Lowery:But the biggest issue is that most women don't even realize how bad it is. They downplay it. It becomes normalized, until one day they wake up and barely recognize themselves. So stop pretending it's not that bad, because every day I speak to women who want to lose weight Smart, successful, capable women, high performance at work, leaders in their careers, but behind closed doors. They're struggling.
Max Lowery:They avoid social events because they hate how they look. They make up excuses, they cancel last minute, they say they're too busy or too tired, when in reality they just don't want to be seen. They scan the restaurant menu in advance, promising themselves they'll be good, but then overeat and binge anyway and go home feeling ashamed. They see themselves in the mirror and quietly mutter disgusting. They grab at their stomach, pinch at the back of their arms, turn sideways and hate the reflection. They wake up every morning thinking I need to get my shit together, but by 10am they've already broken the promises they made the night before and the shame cycle starts all over again. They snap at their partners, their children, the people they love the most, not because they're bad people, but because they feel stretched thin and deeply unhappy in their own skin. They see a photo of themselves from a birthday, a wedding or a family holiday and burst into tears, not because of how they look, but because of what it represents the years of feeling stuck, the lost confidence, the sadness they've hidden under a smile for too long. And they're not lazy, they're not weak, they're just stuck. And no diet on earth is going to fix that. But still they laugh it off, they make a joke, they downplay it, they tell themselves it's not that bad. But it is that bad.
Max Lowery:Last week I had a conversation with a woman who was trying to lose weight. I asked her what happens if nothing changes and she said I won't be here. My health is already on the edge. And then she laughed. That's what your brain does when it's overwhelmed it buries the truth because facing it feels terrifying, because change feels uncertain, because it's safer to stay stuck, even if staying stuck is slowly destroying you. You will not change until the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the fear of change. And for a lot of women that moment doesn't come. Until it's too late, until the diagnosis, until the relationship breaks down, until your children start copying your habits, until you feel like a stranger in your own body. Don't wait for that moment. The women we worked with felt the same way. They were stuck, they were scared and they were silently suffering. But they did one thing differently they got honest, they stopped lying to themselves, they stopped pretending and they asked for help.
Max Lowery:So if you're done pretending, done, minimizing done, watching your life pass you by while you stay trapped in a body and mindset that's dragging you down, then it's time to face the reality and do something different about it. But let me be clear doing something about it doesn't mean buying another meal plan or downloading another app or starting another detox on Monday. It means finally letting go of the illusion that the next thing will fix you. It means getting off the hamster wheel of hope and hype and committing to do the real work the boring, unsexy, effective work. Move your body every day, eat mostly real food, create emotional space before eating, prioritize sleep, hydrate, manage your stress in healthier ways and stop quitting every time life gets busy. Simple yes, easy no, because consistency is the hard part, because your brain will keep searching for something new and exciting, because doing the same foundational things every day feels boring. But boring is what works. Our clients don't succeed because they found some magic plan. They succeed because they finally stopped jumping from plan to plan. They committed to the fundamentals and they did them consistently.
Max Lowery:So if you're serious about change, it's time to stop searching for shortcuts and start building habits that last. So you've just heard the truth, not the sugar-coated version, not the Instagram highlight reel, but the reason why you're still stuck. If you've made it this far, as a part of you that knows you can't keep doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. You've tried willpower, you've tried discipline, you've tried doing better on Monday, and none of that has worked long term. Because the truth is you don't need more information, you need implementation, you need support, you need structure, you need a system that works for you.
Max Lowery:You need to reset your metabolism, rewire your emotional habits and realign with the woman you actually want to be. This is exactly what we can help you with. We don't give you another diet. We help you finally break free from the loop that's been ruining your life for years.
