A Blonde A Brunette and a Mic
Episode 113: Sundowning and Rising: Our Podcast's Transformation Journey
We're announcing the "sundowning" of our current podcast as we prepare for a complete rebrand, launching on May 6th. After realizing our audience is primarily women in midlife, we're embracing this direction with deeper, more focused content about relationships in all forms.
• Started discussing a podcast idea back in 2018 before life and the pandemic delayed our plans
• Finally launched in 2023 after Jules suggested the timing was right
• Discovered our audience is primarily women 40+ despite trying to reach a broader demographic
• Working with podcast marketing coach Whitney Gardner (our "young Yoda") to refine our focus
• New podcast will focus on relationships in all forms - with ourselves, others, family, and friends
• Same hosts, new name, and deeper discussions targeted to women in midlife
• Will continue to bring our authentic experiences and hard-earned wisdom
Join us on May 6th for our rebranded podcast launch! We'll be sharing teasers on our social media channels in the weeks leading up to the big reveal.
Welcome to a Blonde, a Brunette and a Mike podcast. We're just two Seattle besties who keep it real, definitely unfiltered, and are always ready for a laugh. I'm Michelle the Blonde.
Speaker 2:Hey there, and I'm Jules the Brunette. Join us as we dive into all of the juicy topics like dating, women's health, sex politics, relationships and everything in between.
Speaker 1:We each have our own unique perspective and don't always see eye to eye, but that just makes our conversations that much more interesting. That's right.
Speaker 2:So if you're looking for a podcast that's both entertaining and honest, I think we've got you covered. Two authentic women, both with real talk let's go okay, blondie, here I am, here you are, yes, and here I am in, uh, the great pacific northwest, and we have an announcement don't let the sun go down on me or I got sunshine. I just like that part because I can harmonize. Okay, this is our sun down episode.
Speaker 1:That's why I chose that song. Yeah, don't let the sun go down on me, but we are letting it. We're going to let it go down, we're letting it come right back up.
Speaker 2:So do not despair the blonde and the brunette are coming back with a whole new look in may may 6th actually so let's talk about this a little bit. Yeah, so let's dial back that's my favorite thing to say to dial back to, uh, 2018, when we started talking about a podcast and doing a podcast and I ran across this page that I had sent Michelle um, that had different names for the podcast and such on there, and that's pretty much as far as we had gotten.
Speaker 2:The pandemic happened. We were dealing with this house. She had to move out. Blah blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, move back in. Okay, so we started in 2023 and came up with the blonde vernet in my name and realized, as we're kind of going through all this chime in anytime honey.
Speaker 1:Well, no, it's just. It's like the timeline for the podcast 2018, this was Julie's brainchild, she posed it to me was like I think we should do a podcast. Wouldn't it be fun to do a podcast? So we would talk about it. Like Julie said, fast forward. We went through the pandemic. Everybody has their stories through the pandemic. We certainly had ours, and when she mentions this house, this is Julie's house that we're both living in now, and we had struggles together, just FYI.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we had her, but I don't sleep downstairs, she's up.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and, and so we had our own struggles with that. I ended up like she said I moved out. And when I moved back in in 2022, she brought the podcast thing up again and she said I think this is when we should do the podcast. You're back now, you've moved back in, I was living downstairs and we're going to have time to do this together. So we just started the ball rolling and moving forward with some things through the rest of 2022. And in fall of that year, we started hammering out names for the podcast, and that was a hard thing to do.
Speaker 2:It was trying to come up with what we, what would kind of epitomize what we were looking at doing, and so we kind of played with that one for a while. But really for me it was, I had a goal of learning something new, and so learning something new means there's a lot of technical aspects of podcasting and that sort of detail, but what we really didn't focus too much on was the marketing aspect of things and kind of dialing down our what we call niche, because we have had topics that are all over the board purposely and have had a lot of different listeners that are from a wide range of ages. We have both men and women, you know, that are tuning in as well, but we realize that a lot of the material we're doing is really really guided towards women and women our own age. So what did?
Speaker 1:we do as it should be because we're two women yeah we are women, even though we were trying to reach a brighter audience, fate would have it that our our audience really, for the most part, our midlife aged women, 40 ish on up, right.
Speaker 2:And having gone through a lot of the same stuff that we have been through in our lifetimes um related to do a lot of things around relationships. Now, when I say relationships, I'm not talking like romantic relationships completely. I'm talking about relationships with ourselves, relationships with other people, friendships etc.
Speaker 1:it's. It's crazy when you think of the word relationships, a lot of time it always goes to a romantic like whether dating or partnership, marriage, that kind of a thing. But relationships, there's a broad compass within that Family relationships, the way things affect relationships, all different kinds. So at the beginning of this year, when we were gearing up for 2025, at the beginning of this year when we were gearing up for 2025, we were looking to change some things. And to Julie's point, she's like an entrepreneur, so she's always on the more. You've heard me refer to her as a dog with a bone and she is like that in many circumstances. This one is no different.
Speaker 2:And I have given her some gray hair, but her hair is blonde.
Speaker 1:So you can't really see it, yeah, so.
Speaker 2:I've given myself some too.
Speaker 1:Yeah, cause we we've had struggles as we've gone through the podcast journey and we're now going to take those and throw them into a positive light.
Speaker 2:We're working with a Whitney Gardner is a podcast marketing coach and we call her, the young Yoda, because she is young and full of energy and we love working with her and she's really made our brains hurt, thinking about kind of directing our content, directing our message, the things we want to discuss and everything toward a specific group. So, anyway, we won't get into a ton of that right now, but what we really wanted to do is just let you guys know that the blonde, the brunette and the mic are sundowning. This is the last episode, so we're going to keep it super short because we're not saying anything really in particular that you're going to learn from right, but we are going to say you're going to love what's coming.
Speaker 1:You're going to love what's coming.
Speaker 2:Yeah, we've got some good stuff, and we can go way deeper on topics that we really want to discuss and develop a nice little community of women together. So all of that's coming. We are going to be offline for the next three weeks and our new, rebranded version will be dropping on May 6th. So at that time we will have all kinds of new content. We have a new name. We have a whole new thing. We're not going to tell you right now, but we will be. You'll get teasers.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we'll be announcing all of that. You'll get teasers along the way.
Speaker 2:And we hope you like it, and if you're a guy, you can still listen. You would learn a lot about your lady friends. But a lot of it's geared towards, you know, women, yeah, women, our age Women who are going through a lot of the things that we have gone through or are going through. We don't Michelle will give her disclaimers like we don't claim to be experts on a lot of this stuff, but we're experts from our own experiences that we want to share.
Speaker 1:We've dealt with and been through a ton. So I mean we are experts. God damn it. Yeah, Actually, no disclaimers here, oh my.
Speaker 2:God, michelle did not disclaimer us, she always disclaimers us.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no disclaimers, because uh, yeah, not, I'm just, of course, blamers because, uh, yeah, not, I'm just, of course, having fun here. But I mean we've been through a lot and we dealt with a lot and we have come through it all. Not that we're at the end of any kind of journey, cause it never ends, um, but we definitely have learned a lot along the way and that's really what we want to share, because if what we have learned along the way and how we handle things and the way we do things and the way we stay young cause you know, we're- you know we're, we're getting on in years but we don't, we don't let that hold us back, Right?
Speaker 1:So?
Speaker 2:uh, getting on in years. Oh, my God, you know, I just had to sound old. For to sound old, why don't you put on your blue hair and then?
Speaker 1:she says spicy, whatever.
Speaker 2:But yeah, you're about as spicy as they come, yeah, so anyways. So anyway to all of you, thank you so much for uh tuning in and listening and really kind of giving your support with the podcast the way we've had it. We're going to have a new version of it Same people, we'll have guests as well, but a lot of the topics are going to be related to what we were just talking about and we would love for you to continue tuning in when the time comes.
Speaker 1:Do it. You're going to want to Yep Anyway thank you again and again.
Speaker 2:The socials will all be the same, but the name will be different, and we'll let you guys know the names will be changed to protect the information. Yeah, until then, we hope you have a wonderful, wonderful rest of the month and we will see you on May 6th. May 6th, okay.
Speaker 1:Everybody take care. Bye, peace out, see you soon, that's what it is. We're not saying bye, bye, take care.
