Episode #20: The Feet-Pelvic Floor Connection: Why It Matters More Than You Think
Have you ever stopped to think about how your feet might be affecting your pelvic floor? It might sound like a stretch, but the connection is real—and powerful. In this episode, I'm joined by Natalie Headdings, a pelvic floor specialist, to explore the surprising relationship between what’s happening at ground level (your feet) and how it impacts your core, posture, and pelvic floor function.
Many of us have spent years squeezing into narrow shoes, wearing high heels, or relying on “supportive” footwear that actually limits the natural movement of our feet. Over time, this can lead to stiffness, weakness, and altered gait patterns—setting off a chain reaction of dysfunction through the knees, hips, spine, and yes, even the pelvic floor. Your feet are your foundation, and if that foundation isn’t working well, the rest of your body will compensate—and often in ways that lead to pain or symptoms.
We also talk about the modern-day version of foot binding (spoiler: it might be in your closet), why bunions and hammer toes are more than just cosmetic, and how orthotics can be both helpful and harmful depending on how they're used. You’ll come away with a better understanding of how to assess your own feet and where to start when it comes to improving foot strength and mobility.
