We touch on:
- The TikTok ban
- The rise of Threads
- Harnessing authenticity and personality as a superpower over AI
- An Easter Egg Adam Mosseri dropped about how AI and augmentation will play a role visually, in 2025

Time has proven that it is the businesses that keep their finger on the pulse and get with the times who thrive on social media. It is the people who aren't afraid to try new things, to change, to adapt, to tap buttons. You've never tapped before who come out on top and that doesn't need to be hard.
It does not need to be hard to keep up with this stuff. Really. I think it's just a practice. So with that said, let's talk about what might come to Instagram in 2025. Let's talk about some predictions and where the trends are going for social media, as it pertains to businesses in the new year. Last year, I did this for 20, 24 and I went back and reviewed that episode to see how right I was or wrong.
And I think that I maybe played it too safe and honestly, I might play it a little bit safe today. So I'm also going to invite some experts in to give you their predictions. So you're not just hearing from me, but you're also hearing from some other experts. So for 20 24, 1 of the things that I said is that gamification will continue to grow.
And I don't think this took off in the way that I thought it would, but it did continue to grow. And I definitely leaned in. You know how on Instagram you'll get a notification. That's like, you've got way more views on this reel than your last reel. Here's a badge. , they started giving us badges and stickers and that's a marketing tactical, gamification to make you get like a ton of dopamine.
When you do something a company wants you to do. And I loved getting those badges. I had a little competition with one of my influencer friends , it was fun and it just gave us like a little something extra to do a little bit of friendly competition. I am the least competitive person you will ever listen to in your life.
But. That was fun because of the game. , the other thing I talked about last year on this show was authenticity and messy bun content. And just jumping on camera as you are. And I think that we can all agree that vulnerability and authenticity.
And being very real in the moment, thrived online this year. Bar none. And as AI here's prediction, number one, as AI continues to grow your uniqueness and your authenticity are going to be your super power more than ever before.
Just think about that. One of my predictions was that AI with thrive and AI would grow. And we saw that a lot. How many people do you know that had chat, GPT, writing their content for them. And then people like me arguing that it's not good enough. It's not good at writing copy.
I would have people come to my program and submit content that ChatGPT wrote. And I can tell in a heartbeat even the content scheduling software that I use later.com has a button you can press to have later write your caption for you right inside the app when you're scheduling your content.
So that definitely came true. And it is going to continue to grow, but let me tell you. ChatGPT is not writing the best content on the internet. Right. It might write some content. It might sometimes sound like you, it might write you a good sales email now, and then, and it is probably going to continue to improve.
I think I would be naive to say, it's not going to continue to improve, but it is not writing the best content on the internet. We still need humans for that. We still need your, you ness, your Eunice. That works way better in writing, instead of saying it out loud, but we need you injected in your content.
That is still. The magic ingredient.
We also saw this year short form videos of talking on camera, really shining. And that was one of my predictions. I thought we were going to go more into that. Instagram about halfway through the year changed the rules.
So that content will only be shown to strangers if it's under 60 seconds. Whereas before we could talk for like 90 seconds on camera, but now if you're talking for 90 seconds on camera, it's likely being shown to your followers, not to strangers. So that tells me they want to see the shorter stuff.
And I think that will continue to be true.
So that's a bit of a recap on last year and teasing some of my thoughts on 2025, let's get into the 2025 predictions. Right now. It is December 29th, 2024. Is Tik TOK gonna be banned in the states? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. It's supposed to be, but the rumor mill is rumoring. But if that happens, there will be a mass flood of creators to Instagram.
And that has pros and cons. Pros way more people on this platform, cons potentially more competition for airspace, but way more people here means Instagram has more money means they can improve the platform means people are scrolling on this, like think about all the hours spent in America of Americans scrolling on tiktok.
If all that scrolling time comes over to Instagram, there is so much opportunity to be had with all those new eyeballs. And I have said for. For a long time. Instagram is way better for converting people. The direct messaging on tiktok. Not that good, not that good at all. Really easy to get lost, really easy to lose people.
You can't send links, there's lag. It's weird versus Instagram. It's way easier to have a direct message conversation with somebody which means you can voice memo them. You can actually have a sales conversation. You can feel like you're a real human talking to a real human. You can drop the conversation and come back to it later.
You can send the links to them and. Be like here, here's an episode. Here's a, you know, Here's a freebie, here's a mini offer. Here's the link to book my services way better on Instagram. And Instagram now is adding more and more features. They're actively doing this to sort your messages, to make them even easier.
And we know that community and communication has been a priority of theirs in the past years. So I think that's going to probably continue as well. We want your leads on Instagram so that you can slide into their DMS and they can slide into your DMS and you can have sales conversations with them. . A ton of the clients that come into my business, start with a relationship in direct messages and maybe even direct messaging you, people are always like, Jen, I can't believe you're actually talking to me here.
Yeah, man, until I can't, until I really physically can't respond to all my DMS, I will be there responding to my DMS.
This one is Instagram adjacent, but Threads is paying creators now. They're not paying me because I'm Canadian. So sorry, Canadians. We can't get paid, but they are paying some people. There are some parameters. Like you need to have a certain amount of followers. I think it's thousand. And, , not break their guidelines, stuff like that.
It's an invite only program, but threads is basically the direct competition of acts or Twitter and Twitter, and basically makes you pay to be there versus threads. That's paying you to create there. Also my scheduling software later just made it so that you can schedule content on threads. This is not even so much a prediction for the new year
as much as it is an update on what's going on right now, Threads is growing rapidly.
It was like, I think it broke records for being the fastest social media platform to ever grow. They're paying their creators. You can schedule your content. There's a really fun community over there. So I think threads is going to grow and grow and grow into 20 25.
Okay. You knew it was coming. Let's talk about. AI. Visually. So not the AI that's writing bad captions, but the visual AI that is
Creating graphics and videos.
Adam Mosseri the head of Instagram teased this just a few days ago. And he showed a clip of himself in this AI universe and it looked very real. And from what I could see, it looks like it was very easy to use. So I think AI, visual augmentation, like making you look like you're standing on a mountain top or making you look like you're someone else kind of think of it like FaceTime or Snapchat filters when you . Aren't a call with someone and suddenly they have bunny ears, or when you're on a Microsoft teams call and somebody puts like a really convincing background behind them.
I think it's going to be as easy to click those buttons and do those silly things as it is to make it look like you are in an entirely new, very convincing reality.
Throughout 2025, that will either continue to advance and continue to get really, really. Believable and freaky. And like everything you're watching is a cartoon and nothing is real, or we will completely fight against it. And by the end of the year, we will be making gritty.
Hyper grounded, realistic content.
We'll see. Usually a big swing, one way in a big swing, the opposite direction in terms of trends wouldn't happen that quickly. But because AI is progressing so quickly, I'm wondering if it will. I'm wondering if we go really full send AI and then we pull back immediately.
And then the public pulls back really, really quickly and defies against it.
We'll see. Let's get into some other people's predictions. Firstly, chat, GPT themself. I asked Chad GPT what his predictions were and they were all pretty, I mean, kind of what you would expect, what I would expect. But one thing that it said that I hadn't thought of was hybrid formats and new content types. This is cool because usually Instagram will copy whatever Tik TOK has done and make that their thing.
But even just like, think about swiping through a carousel, which means a bunch of graphics on Instagram, you know, when you swipe, swipe to the left on your screen and like go through graphics. We rarely see videos inserted there. So maybe more of that graphic video, graphic
video, maybe there's new content formats and ways to mix media and mix graphics and video in ways we haven't even thought of yet.
Now he's not here. But I also have a prediction from Gary Vee Gary Vee. If you're listening, how many times I got to invite you on this podcast before you come? Secondly, Gary Vee has been talking all over the internet about live shopping experiences. So think the shopping channel back in the day, when you watch TV late at night and buy items off of shopping channels, except live shopping for all the stores you love.
Instead of walking into the store, you're going to be watching almost. Almost a performance of someone live online and you are. Maybe pressing pound on your keyboard to purchase something. I don't know, making it really easy to buy from live video. Now, one of the things I haven't heard Gary talk about, I'm sure he knows this though, is that this is how a lot of multi-level marketing companies got their fame.
Really popular multi-level marketing companies like Lula Roe, for instance, leaned in years ago to selling on Facebook Lives. Facebook Lives aren't even that old. I remember it would be like maybe six, seven years. Those have been around and MLMs have encouraged going live to sell on social media for many years.
And a lot of them that's their main game. So I think he's definitely onto something there. We've seen it throughout history. And now that there are all these tools and tech is as advanced as it is. There's no reason we shouldn't.
Revitalize that industry make it cool. Make it fun, make it easy. And then have those selling experiences right inside social media in the Palm of your client's hand.. What do you think is going to happen with paid ads? I'm an organic expert. I talk about all organic content, but I really wanted to know what is going to happen with paid ads in 2025 with Meta Ads with paid media.
So I called in my friend, Caley Dimmock
Caley is a marketing strategist, a business coach. And most importantly right now, And ads expert, and we can trust her. She's managed over $10 million in ad spend over the past 10 years and has a current average return on ad spend of 11 x for her clients, . She has spoken about Meta Ads on stages across north America.
I'm so excited to hear what she has to say, honestly. And she actually also has a Facebook and Instagram ads group coaching program that I think is sold out right now. So she's very in demand. Let's hear what Caley has to say about 2025.
As we look to Instagram ads in 2025, the landscape is shifting in many ways, and I'll touch on just three of them for now. So first of all, let's talk ad creative. With AI making it easier than ever to churn out polished, professional looking ads, the feed has become oversaturated with content that looks perfect, but honestly feels a little bit hollow.
So this is where raw and native ads really come in. The best performing ads will look like organic content, a behind the scenes photo, an off the cuff video, anything that feels real and unscripted. But it's also not enough for your ads to just look raw. To truly connect, your messaging needs to be hyper specific, speaking directly to your audience's inner world.
And this requires a deep understanding of human psychology and neuroscience. What motivates them? What fears keep them up at night? What extremely specific scenarios are they facing on a day to day basis? The ads that win will tap into these emotional drivers, creating a visceral response that makes your audience feel seen and understood.
Secondly, outside of retargeting or targeting warm audiences, targeting has undergone a pretty seismic shift over the past few months and I think is only going to continue to do so more in 2025. With Meta's AI at the helm now, the old playbook of hyper layered, narrow targeting is becoming outdated. Why is this?
Well, because the algorithm is no longer just matching your ad to demographic data that you have selected. It's reading and analyzing every element of your ad creative. Your copy, visuals, tone, and using that information to determine who should see your ad. So essentially, Meta's AI knows what your ad is about and who it's for.
often better than you do. This is why broader targeting now works. Your job isn't to play arrow and target anymore. It's to craft ad creative that acts more like a lighthouse, drawing in the right people with messaging that is so clear and specific that it signals, hey, this is for you. So if your ad creative isn't doing that heavy lifting, the algorithm can't do its job effectively.
And the third one I want to chat about is we are seeing a pretty neat shift in how ads drive deeper connections. So the traditional lead magnet, a PDF, or free checklist, while it's definitely still helping folks build their list, it's starting to feel a little bit tired. So instead, I think we're going to start seeing more folks run ads directly to channels such as their email newsletters, private podcasts, and sub stack communities.
without an additional lead magnet in front of it. It's like skipping the first date and going straight to an intimate and more meaningful conversation. These gated spaces offer more than just a name and email address. They offer a chance to create trust and foster loyalty. When someone subscribes to your private podcast or joins your substack, they're inviting you into their daily lives in a way that feels personal.
It's not just about generating leads anymore, it's about building relationships that last. With this, I predict that the cost per lead may be a little bit higher in these scenarios, but the quality of lead and ability to nurture people will also likely be higher to make up for it. So to sum it up, in 2025, Instagram ads are evolving even more toward raw human storytelling, broad AI based targeting guided by razor sharp messaging, and creating deeper connections through gated spaces like private podcasts and newsletters.
There are of course many more predictions I have, but I feel like these are the most important to mention for now.
Fascinating. Next up ManyChat. ManyChat, ManyChat hit the scene this year.
You know, when you're watching a video and it says, comment, blast off, and I'll send you a link to my blastoff freebie or whatever. And then you get a DM immediately with like a link to go get something for free. That is through automations through ManyChat.
And I will put down in the show notes. There's going to be a bunch of free stuff down there, including something from Caley and also my many chat freebie. That teaches you how to set up an automation, how the strategy works around it and all of that.
So you can go get that down there. ManyChat has been huge this year and they are growing and they are changing the game on how automations and bots and DMS and giving people links to book with you and giving people links to get your freebies. They are changing all of that. They're an approved Instagram partner, which means we're allowed to use it.
And I have grown my list by the thousands because of ManyChat. So. How do I know that they're changing the game and that there's more to come. I started working with a many chat expert, actually. I think she's like a verified mini chat expert. And she's taught me a bunch of stuff about what is to come.
And so I asked her to come in as well and give you her 20, 25 many chat predictions.
Shiya, wasn't able to record her predictions. So instead she sent them over to me and I am going to tell you what she said. What's cool about what she said is these aren't even so much predictions as this is how it is now.
And a lot of people just don't know it. So you're about to hear from a many chat expert. All the power that ManyChat has
to help you use these automations to help you get more engagement, closed sales in the DMs, have chatbots.
Do your sales for you. This is already happening. And the people who are jumping on it are some of the first people to jump on it. So, firstly, quick automations, quick campaigns are featured on the template hub on the home tab. The new interface will be available for people to easily navigate and launch quick automations on both desktop and the app.
She says, once a user clicks on the create button, the template comes to life.
When you fill out all the information, the automation is ready to live in less than 10 minutes. And here's what quick automations do. They boost engagement and close sales by asking people to comment. So that's when it's like, okay, comment keyword on my post. And that is going to boost your engagement because now you're getting a comment when otherwise that person might not have commented anything. And then many chat automatically replies to the person and slides into their DMS and even sends links on autopilot. Shiya says, yep.
While you're out there living your best life, it's sealing the deal for you. Now here's the thing. Not a lot of people know. For all of 20, 24 almost I would send a opt-in form through the direct messages. AKA. I would be like, okay, here's a little, pop-up put your name and email into it and then I'll send you whatever.
But now you get to skip that step. So, what that means is the user, your follower, your lead can give their email to you in the DMS can give their name to you in the DMS, but they're actually giving it to many chat. And many chat is automatically adding them to your email software and sending them whatever you want to send them.
So why is that good? Well, it's a much more seamless experience for your lead. It feels better than having them have to go to a questionable form and type their email in, right. It feels a lot safer. And as far as the algorithms concerned, it now looks like you're having a full-fledged conversation with this person.
And we already know the algorithms hate when we send people off of the platform. So you don't need to send people to a website to capture their email. They're just messaging it to you. And many chat is capturing it. And it's linked to your email software. If you're getting overwhelmed, just ignore me, literally ignore me because you don't have to do this, but. If you have a bigger following or when you have a bigger following automations, like this become very important because, you know, it takes a lot of time to respond to all the people who want to be chatting with you. So this might not be something you use this year.
It might be something that you use in the future, but now, you know, you know, the details,
you know where things can go and you have another tactic for spending less time on your phone, because that's what I want for all of you. More clients, more views in way less time, way less time. Using your thumbs on your phone. We want to get our phases out of our phones.
Shy says, And don't even think about saying I'm not techie the setup minutes, literal minutes. You'll be automating like a boss before your coffee gets cold, more followers, check more engagement, check more cash. Oh, you better. Believe it. Stop playing small, get many chat and start turning your DMS into dollar signs.
Her second insight about where many chat is going this year is AI integrations. So there's a native integration with chat GPT to feed the company details. And AI will do the work for you. This is wild. So what she's saying is you give ChatGPT all of the information about your company and your products and what you sell and frequently asked questions.
So basically you're creating a souped up chat bot. So it's not just a chat bot. Who can answer like a or B it's actually chat GPT, and it knows the answers. And it's looking for the answers and talking back to someone in your DMS. As if it's a human, this is wild. AI chatbots are more than a trendy tech solution.
They're the future of customer service, engagement, and scalability. They allow you to provide better service, engage with your audience more effectively and save time while scaling your brand in a world where instant responses and personalized interactions are the norm. Implementing a chat bot is an investment that will pay off as you continue to grow.
And, you know, As much as the stuff like it freaks me out just like a freaks you out, right? Like any uneasy feelings, like I hear you. But I also, I mean, I just got a direct message today that was like, , I don't want to shade this person, but it was someone in my program and they, they messaged me and they said, Hey, Jenna.
I like, I can't find whatever and I emailed customer service, but they never got back to me. It's the holidays customer services closed. We announced customer services closed. You got an auto response back that customer service is closed and when she'll be back, , what else can I do?
If, if the humans aren't going to let humans human, if we no longer accept a wait time when we have a customer service query or. When we got billed twice for something, if we're going to freak out and need to talk to someone immediately. You know, if that's you like, if that's how you feel, then we need to accept chatbots because they will give you no wait time.
Right? If you hate waiting on hold then. Okay, well maybe except chatbots, maybe accept AI. As a customer service solution, because then you're not going to need to wait on hold anymore. If you've ever resented that hour long way, , you know, do we really have the right to hate this? I mean, you have the right to hate whatever you want, but it's worth thinking about right.
If you want to work with her, if you want to know more about what she's up to and how she can help you in your business, then I will also link to her in the show notes.
She's also got a master's in marketing, which is pretty cool. Like she knows what she's doing. She knows what's up.
That's it. That's what's happening. That's what will happen? I think. What do you think will happen if you're listening on Spotify, comment on the show and tell me what you think will happen in 2025. What are your predictions? What will change? Don't skip the show notes.
