Callie-Ann: Finding Strength in Struggle - Surviving Domestic Violence and Eating Disorder Recovery
In a powerful episode of RenourishED, we are honoured to welcome Callie Ann, an influential voice in the eating disorder recovery space, who brings her multifaceted expertise as an allied health professional specialising in trauma and neurodivergence. With a profound personal journey through a 16-year battle with an eating disorder, CPTSD, neurodivergence, and domestic violence, Callie's practice is deeply rooted in her own experiences, offering a holistic and intersectional approach to treatment.
Callie shares the defining moments of her recovery, emphasising the transformative role of a recovery coach and how overcoming domestic violence intertwined with her eating disorder journey. She provides life-saving advice for listeners in abusive relationships and highlights the vital support social workers offer in ED recovery.
As a new mother, Callie reflects on motherhood's impact on her body relationship and shares essential guidance for parents and carers on fostering a healthy food and body image environment for children. She discusses the challenges of living with endometriosis alongside an eating disorder and the practices that aid her management.
Callie advocates for respect and understanding in ED treatment, stressing the importance of not "calling out" a client's ED but rather allowing space for recovery. She calls for a shift in clinicians' focus from fixing to accepting, sharing personal strategies for safeguarding her recovery.
Offering insights into the ED treatment landscape in Australia, Callie proposes critical changes and provides immediate, actionable advice for those navigating recovery. She concludes with a mantra that has been a beacon of hope in her darkest times, inspiring listeners towards a path of freedom and healing.
