MESS to YES
Are you looking for the GAPS!!
______
Are you even aware that the gaps exist?
How are you using your gaps?
A few weeks ago Mel and I came across this term ‘gaps’ and immediately started noticing them everywhere!
For those listening at home, GAPS are the times when you can see a glimpse of space in your day or week where there is possibility to choose something that is just for you.
Often both of us would get together and have a laugh at the fact that the gaps seem to appear but also disappear very quickly, and we got very curious about how we could manage this time we had and fill it with something we love.
Some of the key points about noticing the gaps are, ‘What type of gap is it?’, ‘What can you expect when you arrive at the gap?’, and the most important one, ‘How do you protect the gap?’.
In today's episode we took a deep dive into these questions.
Firstly let’s take a look at what type of gaps can pop up in your space. Mel and I have noted 4 types so far, but I’m sure there are many more…
1. The Gap where the kids are occupied either with a friend play date or engrossed in an activity. This might be an unlikely place to look for a gap, but it works.
2. Maybe you work part time or full time and so the gaps might be your lunch break, the car ride to work, car ride home from work…
3. A gap might be where there is some space in your day and nothing is planned in it, you might find more of these gaps on the weekend or your day off.
4. Then, lucky last the Spontaneous Gaps. These gaps can arrive out of nowhere and are often the trickiest to realise their potential.
So what can you expect when you start to notice these gaps in your life?
That they are probably more common than you think, and it’s likely you just haven’t been noticing them.
Before you may have brushed off the spontaneous gap and filled it with wondering what you were going to do!
You might have filled the gaps with washing the dishes, doing the laundry or getting pulled by other people’s needs.
You will try to fill it with other things, but don’t!
And that brings me to the final point.
Protect the gaps.
Be intentional with what you do in these spaces.
Remember what brings you joy and when you see a gap whether you are creating the gap or it comes as a lovely surprise do something that feels good, that fills up your cup.
Mel and I would love to hear your GAP stories over in the Grab Your Keys and Go community.
