Double Edge Fitness

DE Update | Week of December 2nd

Jacob Wellock

What if the holidays were more about experiences than material gifts? This episode begins with a personal holiday greeting and a story about overcoming norovirus just in time to embark on a meaningful family adventure—a 10-day ocean trip that promises to create cherished memories. Join me as I talk about this shift in focus, inspired by my daughter's hospital stay last year, and how it's reshaped our family's holiday traditions. Meanwhile, Chris, Tammy, and the entire gym team are stepping up to ensure everything runs smoothly while I'm away. We're also shaking things up at the gym with fresh event ideas that focus on community rather than alcohol, and there's buzz about an unofficial Christmas party thanks to some spirited gym-goers. Plus, you'll get the scoop on our holiday schedule, including class updates around the festive season.

As the holiday season approaches, it's a challenge to maintain healthy habits, but I've got some motivational insights to help you stay on track. In this episode, we celebrate our Committed Club members who are nearing an impressive 12-month streak, with exciting plans already in the works for 2025. My pride in our community's dedication to health and fitness can't be overstated. Although I may miss hosting a session next week due to my family vacation, rest assured, I'll keep everyone updated and inspired. Remember to make wise food choices, keep those workouts consistent, and stay committed to your health goals. Until next time, stay fit and enjoy the holidays!

Speaker 1:

all right, happy sunday everybody. Happy post thanksgiving. All right, happy Sunday everybody. Happy post-Thanksgiving Hope. Everybody had a great Thanksgiving with your family.

Speaker 1:

You ate pretty good, you know, maybe not as high quality, but I hope you all had a great time with your friends and family and so forth this past week and you're feeling pretty good, feeling healthy, healthier than I am, and you're feeling pretty good, feeling healthy, healthier than I am. Sorry if my voice is a little bit raspy and off, but last Wednesday I woke up with norovirus. Those of you that have had the pleasures of that virus you know how bad it sucks. I lost about six pounds in three days and, yeah, it's ransacked my whole family and um, feeling better, much better today and I still got. My voice is still a little messed up. So, yeah, hope none of you got that. Really hope so, but it, uh it knocked me down and out, so we'll be back for two days this week.

Speaker 1:

I'll let you everybody know that wednesday I will be gone for 10 days off the grid on the ocean. So me and my family will be leaving town, taking the kids on a little trip for the next 10 days and I will have very limited access to all things business related, for a few reasons. One, be in the middle of the ocean. Two, kind of want to take a little mental break Just a little one, not much, just a little one and connect with my family and so forth. This is a trip that has been planned since Claire got out of the hospital last year and it is our family transitioning from buying, like Christmas stuff those of you with kids, little kids, you understand this Buy a whole bunch of stuff. They get stuff every year. We're trying to transition away from stuff to memories. Doing trips, family vacations, is something we want to try to uh anchor our family around versus things and items. You know I call it junk. Um, I know the little ones enjoy opening presents and it's a big deal and stuff like that, but we really want to try to move away from that. Yeah, so I will be gone. My brother will be gone a little less time than me, but we're all going to be on the same boat for seven of the 10 days and, um, during that time, chris and Jason will be holding down the South gym. Chris will be coaching all the classes at South while I'm gone and Tammy will be coaching all the classes at Midtown while I'm gone. It's just easier for them their schedules to just have that straight through instead of alternating the week that I'm out. So Chris will be up doing her thing with the morning classes at South and, like I said, tammy will be at Midtown covering my classes and then Jess, tammy and Chase will be holding down Midtown during my absence. All right, good news is me and my brother are not flying on the same flight there. We are on the same flight back, so let's just hope nothing bad happens. You know what I'm saying, or else I guess I don't know who gets double edged. Haven't really planned that far into my what do you want to say? Succession plan. So yeah, we'll both get back on the same plane ride real quick.

Speaker 1:

We got those pre-order sweatshirts out Last day to pre-order. It is going to be tomorrow. So if you're listening to this today, check the email. If you want to pre-order it, no big deal if you don't. It doesn't hurt my feelings one way or the other. The reason we're doing pre-orders for this stuff is one I'm not carrying big amounts of inventory in these things anymore. We'll pre-order what people want. We'll get it in. We might add a couple extras for those of you spontaneous purchasers, but it will be limited. So if you want or desire a new double-edged sweatshirt going into the cold months here, pre-order it. It's the guaranteed way to get your sweatshirt and, again, we're gonna make that last day tomorrow so we can get the order in and the people that bought will get their sweatshirt in a timely manner.

Speaker 1:

A couple, well, a handful of folks reached out to me, which doesn't happen too often post newsletter, but they reached out to me individually, and we're very excited that I am removing and getting away from our double-edged events being alcohol-driven, if you will. I wouldn't say they're always alcohol-driven. I would say that they ended up being excessive alcohol consumption events and, as you guys know, I want to get away from that. Going to get away from that, and with that, though, had a few members ask me if they could do an unofficial double-edged Christmas party, so I got a few people. They're going to be getting together at Parley 6, right next to Midtown, on December 21st I don't know time frame A couple people at the gym are organizing a get-together for any members that want to get out. I'm probably going to go and be at that because I'll be back from the trip and I like hanging out with everybody. But this will be unofficial and I'm not doing the whole drinking and driving scenarios anymore. So you come, it's your own responsibility, it's your own deal. Um, yeah, but we see you there. We see you there. Like I said, this is an unofficial christmas get together for a handful of folks at d that wanted to get together before christmas.

Speaker 1:

Uh, christmas and new year's eve schedule just got through thanksgiving. Uh, when christmas gets here on December 24th, christmas Eve high probability we're not going to have evening classes, because traditionally those have attendance of zero. Christmas Day will be closed. I would be willing to bet there will be no workout on Christmas Day. I don't think any coaches are going to be doing that. Everybody will be with their families. I don't think any coaches are going to be doing that. Everybody will be with their families December 26th. I am making that a closed holiday for my coaches, but if one of us ends up wanting to host a workout, like we did on Thanksgiving, we will get that information out for you. But as of right now, it's closed. On New Year's Eve there will most likely be limited evening classes. Again, traditionally, new Year's Eve attendance is near zero. So evening class schedule just pay attention as we get closer. But those later classes will most likely be canned and then New Year's Day will be closed. All right, that's it.

Speaker 1:

And then 2025 kicks off and we start getting after our New Year's resolutions. You know what I'm saying, because that's what we are all about. You know that's not the case. I can't stay in New Year's resolutions, yeah so, but New Year kicks off. It's always exciting and fun, and it's crazy that the year's already gone by.

Speaker 1:

I had to put up Christmas decorations and I feel like I just took them down, and I'm not that guy that leaves them up for most of the year. They come down New Year's Day. I leave them up through New Year's Eve and then I take the lights down New Year's Day. I'm pretty religious about that, just like I am about them go up the day after Christmas, and it does. It feels like yesterday. I just took them down and then, literally yesterday, the day before yesterday, I put them up. Crazy times, crazy times. Life is just flying by.

Speaker 1:

So, last thing I want to bring up every year, we put out an annual special membership. This is a membership. That's pretty discounted pricing for a year, paid in full this year. Just to give you guys a heads up. I don't know the total number that I'm going to be putting out, but it's going to be limited. This year we aren't going to be selling very many of these.

Speaker 1:

I'm not sure the exact number just yet, but when the email comes out it's those of you that have never heard of this. It's a first come, first serve membership. The people that bought it last year get the first right of refusal to renew this year because I only sell a handful of these. So those people got the email today. So I'm going to give them a week to renew and first right of refusal and then I will get out the remaining amount. Number of memberships available for somebody new to take advantage of this pricing. It's something we've done every year since we've opened. It's always been a good thing for both the business and the members who are able to capitalize on this opportunity to save a little money and commit for a full year. It is a year paid in full membership Up front. It is charged on January 1st of every year and, again, if you become part of the group, you get first right of refusal the next year. This is how that works. So last year's group just got the email today. Next year's group, depending on how many are left, if everybody renews, I think that means there's only going to be two left. So that's just. That's how limited this is, and keep your eyes out for the email when it goes out. I think that's everything I got this week.

Speaker 1:

Everybody, let's keep having a great, healthy, safe holiday season. Keep making good food choices, keep your workouts consistent. Those of you that have been slaying the Committed Club, there's your last month to get 12, and then we start all over again next year and we are hoping and planning on rolling out some new things with the Committed Club going into 2025, which will all be finalized next month. But, yeah, proud of you guys, love you guys, stay healthy, stay fit, keep getting fitter. All right, catch you all. Well, maybe catch you all next week. I'm not really sure if I'm going to do one of these while I'm on vacation all next week. I'm not really sure if I'm going to do one of these while I'm on vacation, so this might be the last you see me until I get back from vacation with the fam. All right, we'll see, we'll see. But, um, yeah, love you guys, see ya.
