Why Double Edge Is Moving To Booking, Caps, And No‑Show Fees For Safer, Better Classes
The guessing game ends here. We’re laying out a clear, fair system that protects your training time, improves safety, and frees our coaches to coach. From unpredictable 6 a.m. swings to over‑capacity evenings, we’ve seen how chaos hurts the class experience—so we’re moving to an industry‑standard model that works.
We break down exactly how it all fits together: class caps at 25 to keep sessions safe and efficient; peak vs non‑peak hours so you know when to plan ahead; and firm cancellation windows with simple, transparent fees that encourage accountability without punishing honest mistakes. You’ll hear how 5 a.m. locked a year of spots due to consistent attendance, why 6 a.m. needs proactive booking, and how waitlists and caps prevent sardine‑style workouts and rushed coaching. We also walk through the December soft‑launch (reduced fees) and the January 2 switch to full standards, plus what happens if you arrive as number 26 when the room is already full.
You’ll get a tour of the updated tech flow. Our rebuilt Double Edge app for iOS and Android lets you see capacity, reserve classes, and auto check‑in when you enter the gym; MindBody fills the gap until launch. Coaches will no longer manage the sign‑in line—every minute they’re not staring at a screen is a minute back to cue movement, watch warm‑ups, and tailor the workout to the room. We also clarify memberships: Unlimited means classes only; All Access includes open gym and gets priority booking, followed by Unlimited, then class packs. Consistent at one hour three or more days a week? We can pre‑book you for the year—with the responsibility to cancel when you’re out.
If you value a safer, smoother, more predictable hour, this is your playbook. Reserve your spot, respect the windows, and help us build a training environment where the floor is clear, the coaching is sharp, and every session feels worth your time. If this helped, subscribe, share with a training buddy, and leave a quick review so more members see the update.

Alright, happy Monday, everybody. I am recording a video. I got a lot of notes in front of me because this video is a video, a little bit of housekeeping, and going over a couple things that we need to be mindful of as far as changes. Some of these changes are might cause a little bit of stress for some of you. Many of you will have no issues because you already do it. You're already super proactive in what I'm about to talk about. And nothing we're going to implement is outside of industry standard norms. So I want to front run this a little bit, just a little bit. The whole purpose of this is to make sure that we are providing a great, safe, and effective class experience for everybody. Structure and planning is a big part of that. For coaches, for members, the days of the unknown, who's going to show up and what's going to happen. Well, we're going to stop winging it. There are times that nobody shows up. Same class, same hour. 6 a.m. is a perfect example of this. And uh today was actually a perfect example because on Friday there were 31 people at 6 a.m. Too many. And today there were eight. Why? And that makes it impossible to plan, right? When there's 31 and we're not ready for it or aware of it, you know, we've done this long enough that we get away with it. But we need to find structure. And this is how we are going to do it. Now, none of this is new pre-COVID. Uh handful of classes, both gyms pre-COVID, had to sign up for classes. You had to plan and book your classes ahead of time. It just is what it is. So, those of you before then, you already know. You're already aware of it. Then we had a little change in business structure, and for the last few years, we've gotten away with not having to stress on that too much. But guess what we're back to now? The need for planning and structure in our classes. So this is gonna roll out from today, essentially, through the end of the year, the training phase that we're gonna learn to do this phase as a community. January 1st, firm rules will be in place ongoing at Double Edge Fitness for until they bury me in this building, and the next person in charge makes new rules. Chances are they won't, but if they do, that will be the time, is when I'm buried. So we're gonna adapt to an industry standard that provides structure for both our member experience to be safe and effective and fun, and our coaches are able to plan and um be ready for what's gonna happen in the class because the unknown sucks. So here's what's gonna happen we're gonna have to start booking our classes in advance. Okay. For some of you, depending on the class time, it might affect more than other class times. All right. But regardless, whether you do it in the parking lot right before the class, the morning of, as you're walking through the door, you will use the double-edged fitness app that will be released sometime in the month of November. It's getting rebuilt right now. In the meantime, you can use the Mind Body app, and you'll be able to use that app going forward. But we're bringing our own app back for this because it is a lot cleaner and simpler to use. Uh, it's more effective for uh this system we're going to. So we're bringing the app back, it's getting rebuilt right now, and it'll work on iOS and Android. So whether you sign up for your class, like I said, walking through the door, sitting in the parking lot the morning of, or a month in advance, uh, that's kind of up to you and how much you want to risk getting into that class or not. Again, the need for that is going to be based on specific class times, obviously. Busier classes, you're probably gonna have to be more proactive and book ahead of time. Less busy classes could probably book your class as you're walking through the door. So these classes are going to be labeled on the schedule starting next week. You'll see it say CrossFit Peak, nine hour cancellation, fees apply. All right, so peak class. So that example there is 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on the schedule. If you pull it up on your phone, on the website, that's what the class will say. And you know that's a peak class. That's a class that's typically at near at capacity, or in 5 a.m.'s case, over capacity. So that's a peak class. So those classes you probably well, 5 a.m.'s a little bit different right now. That is a class that is so full and so desired that the members of that class are booked out a year at a time. They've proven their consistency, their loyalty, their need for 5 a.m., and they have pre-registered those classes through me for a full year. So the only way to join 5 a.m. is they cancel the class they're not going to, and class drops below the attendance threshold of 25. If the class drops below that any given day, anybody can book the class. If it doesn't, then it's just full. Okay. It's just full. That's the way it's gonna be. So 6 a.m., the next peak class on the schedule, is kind of all over the place. Uh the average of the last month has been 20. Uh our averages at the gym are very skewed by Thursday and Friday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday is a different average, dramatically different average than Thursday, Friday. But the overall weekly average for the last month of 6 a.m. has been around 20. So that means there's five spots available on any given day. Okay. Now, with that class, it is a little bit all over the place. Like I said, 6 a.m. last Friday had 31. Today had eight. That's a big difference from a Friday to a Monday, and that's usually the inverse. Monday's the busy day, Friday's a slow day. It's the same people, it's the same group of people. So I don't understand it, I don't get it. But it that's how that class has been for a long time. So with that class, you're probably gonna want to be proactive and book your spots, you know, a day, a week, a couple weeks in advance. Because we never know when it's gonna be a busy day. Because what's gonna happen come probably December on this is when it hits the class cap, people trying to get into the class the morning of and they walk into the gym thinking they're gonna work out and the class is already at 25, you're gonna be turned away from that class. We're going to have structure to these class sizes for safety and efficiency of our members and a good coaching experience. Right now, I'm making that class cap 25. Watching many classes throughout the day, 25 is a good number to have as a standard. Now a coach can come to me and we discuss making the class cap a little bit bigger, depending on the experience of the group and what um members and stuff are looking for in that class. All right, so but 25 is a good number. 25 is a good number. We can do 30, we can do 30 with two coaches in the class. Um, getting over 30, it gets super weird, and I really want to limit that. So right now it's at 25. So if you're not used to signing up for classes and it's a peak class, and that day everybody signed up and you didn't, and you come in rolling in as number 26, you will be turned away. You'll have to come back and work out a different class. All right. We will be reasonable at first. We're not gonna embarrass people, we're not gonna just like, hey, get the hell out of the gym kind of stuff. We're gonna educate, we're gonna learn the system together because 99% of the time it shouldn't be a problem if we plan ahead of time. Just a little bit of planning. Okay. Then you'll see non-peak classes on the schedule. That's 7 a.m., 9 a.m. 12 p.m. 3 30 p.m., and 6 30 p.m. Those classes are designated starting next week as non-peak. Those classes don't have a cancellation window. They hardly ever hit capacity or hardly ever hit close to it unless it's a holiday. If it is a holiday, the 7 and 9 a.m. get pretty big and you will need to plan accordingly. So this coming Friday's Nevada Day, those classes typically are higher attended on holidays that were open because people sleep in, come in a little later, but still like to get their work out in the morning. So when that happens, you might be used to being at a non-peak class and not having to sign up for it, you know, earlier in the day or earlier in the week. On holidays, you're gonna have to. You're gonna have to plan. So for every member, for every single class, we're going to get in the habit of booking and planning our classes ahead of time. Again, this might specific class times with higher demand might need more planning. More days in advance, more hours in advance. Okay, you'll be able to see how many spaces are available. You'll be able to decide how you're gonna plan your life. If you're very structured like me, I can plan a month at a time, even longer, year at a time. Because I thrive in that structure. I know some people need a little bit more flexibility, and you can still achieve that flexibility being a little bit proactive in your planning. Right? So the next classes that are peak, these are going to have a two-hour cancellation window, late fees, and no show fees will apply. So these classes are going to be right now 11 a.m., 4 30 p.m., 5 30 p.m. All right. So those have a two-hour cancellation window. If you cancel within the two hours, it's going to be a late cancel and you will be charged an additional fee. 5 and 6 a.m. is 9 hours. If you cancel within the 9-hour window, there will be a late charge fee. Alright? If you sign up for a class and you don't show up for it and you don't cancel it on your own, you will be charged a no-show fee. That's going to be significantly more expensive than the late cancel fee. So being proactive, planning ahead of time, and being mindful of your cancellation window, you're gonna have no issues. Zero issues. If you aren't signing up for classes and you're doing it right when you get here, you may or may not be able to get into the class. You're rolling the dice on that. If you're signing up for classes and not showing up, it's gonna cost you 25 additional dollars every single time you do that. Regardless of what class you go to. If you sign up for a class and don't show up and don't cancel it, you're gonna be charged$25. That simple. Okay. If you sign up for a class and you late cancel the class, you're gonna be charged$15. That's how it's gonna go. Okay, we are gonna be reasonable people dealing with reasonable people. I do not want to charge anybody these fees, but unfortunately, human nature dictates over the last 20 years if there's no punishment, the behavior doesn't change. So it's really, really easy to use the app when we roll it out to sign up for classes and check in. I know everybody knows how to use their phones, text messaging. We all know how to do it. It's gonna be a habit change, and we're gonna give it till the end of the year to learn this new habit. But I'm not gonna waver on the fees. I know some people are gonna be upset about it. Uh, some people are gonna question it, some people, whatever. If you go to any Pilates studio, yoga studio, any gym like ours that has, you know, full classes, this is the industry standard. Those are the industry standard prices. My goal is to make zero money from this because we are all proactive and planned. That is the goal. I don't want any of these dollars. But if it happens, I'm gonna be very clear. We're keeping it. If I charge you, we're keeping it. Now, if something crazy came up and you have a valid, valid reason, you know, we're reasonable people dealing with reasonable people, then there's a good chance you know we can issue some refunds if need be. But I learned the behavior of folks. I know almost everybody in this gym, what everybody does for work, how many kids they got, know it all. So we got to be reasonable people, you gotta respect the position that myself, my brother, and us coaches are in when it comes to planning classes, organization structure to give you guys a great class experience. And then us as coaches in turn need to respect that life happens and shit comes up, and we will. Okay, but there will be a standard in place that is meant to protect our member experience with class sizes going forward. So, how's it gonna roll out starting November 30th? Or through November 30th, sorry, look at my notes. So basically from now through November 30th, as the app gets released, which we'll do another update on, but we're going to just start practicing signing up for classes. Coaches need to remind members, you know, did you sign up for classes on the app? Um, and then you need to sign into class either on the app or on the iPad. Once the Double Edge app is released, it will sign you in automatically when you come into the gym. Okay, if your phone enters the gym, it will sign you in the class. All right, if you're using the new DE app that's coming out. If you're not, you'll need to go to the iPad and sign into class. Okay. But are you signing up for classes? Again, I don't care if you're doing it in the parking lot right before the class. If there's space, if there's no space, you're screwed. But if there's space, you can do it whenever, wherever, but as long as you are doing it. Coaches are not gonna be responsible for signing people in the classes anymore. All right, they sign up for class, sign into class. Starting in December, we're gonna introduce the fees. For the month of December, it's gonna be less. It's gonna be five dollars and ten dollars, and we're gonna see how it goes. Okay, they're gonna be cheaper and reduced. See how it goes. Starting January 2nd, the fees are gonna go up to the$1525. And if we're not learning and we're not adapting, they might go up more, or some people might quit their membership. But we are going to control class sizes, okay? We are going to control it and we are going to sign up for classes so that our coaches can plan accordingly what to expect for that class. All right. It helps us provide a better experience and it makes sure members get a better experience. It's just what we're going to do. All right. So, again, recap to avoid fees, plan ahead. If you're signing up for a peak class as a nine-hour cancellation window, cancel the class nine hours before. If you're signing up for a peak class as a two-hour cancellation window, cancel two hours before. If you are unsure whether or not you would be able to make it to that class, don't sign up for it until you know for sure if you're gonna make it to the class because I'm willing to bet a lot of the time there will still be space available. Okay. Again, I don't right now the gym at a total is at 65% total capacity based on a 25 person per class uh limit. So there's still plenty of room. Right, but there are uh five main classes that we need to get on board with this before it becomes a problem right now. 5 a.m. No ifs, ands, or buts. That started today with that class. If you aren't pre-registered for that class and there's no opening on the app, don't show up to the class. Don't do it. Starting today, I will turn you away. I will tell you you can't work out. So do not show up for that class, period, at all, starting today unless you're pre-registered for it, or if there's an opening on the app that you can book, then you can come. But you have to if you didn't book a class or you're not pre-registered for it, don't come. 6 a.m. sign up for it. Like I said, it's one of those classes that's either full or not full. Uh book that like any normal class. 11 a.m. is a busy class, hitting that capacity uh kind of often. And then three or four thirty and five thirty are busy classes. Those are the ones that you guys that go to those classes are gonna have to be very mindful of in your planning. And those are probably always gonna be the classes that are gonna be affected by this. Okay, it's it's industry normal class times that usually have this kind of issue. It's normal for us pre-COVID. Um, those are the same class times that were affected back then, and we're back to that. So it's nothing outside the usual. But if those are your class times, then you need to be proactive. With those class times, if that is your class, that's the time you work out, and your attendance history for the last year proves that. I can book you for that class as long as you're on an unlimited membership or an all access membership. I can pre-book you for that class for up to a year. Okay. So your schedule will be locked in there. Caveat to that. If I pre-book you for the year, you gotta be extremely proactive in removing canceling your appointments ahead of time. You're on vacation, you need to go in there and take them out. So you'd be working on the inverse. You wouldn't be booking classes, you would be canceling classes you're not gonna go to, or them fees are gonna get really, really expensive. So you never have to fight for a spot in your class, but you have to be very proactive in removing your spot if you're not gonna be there. That's the trade-off. So that can be done. All right, that's exactly what 5 a.m. we voted to do as a class. I pre-booked everybody from both gyms into that class for the year who have the attendance history to support it. Okay, if you weren't a 5 a.m. member at either gym consistently, three plus days per week, you did not get to pre-book that class. All right, and that's basically kind of my rule. If you're a consistent member at a class time three or more days per week, I will let you book that class for a year in advance and I will do that for you. You'll have to let me know. All right. Couple other things I want to do a little housekeeping on is memberships, understanding our memberships. All right. So we basically got four different memberships, five, but we'll go over each of them. Our common and most popular membership is unlimited class membership, right? That's what 80% of the members use, and I want to make sure we've understand that that is unlimited classes only. Okay, it's unlimited classes. That's it. It's not unlimited everything in the gym, it's unlimited classes. So if your invoice says unlimited, that means you're in limited classes. Okay, it is our most popular membership. What that doesn't mean is that you get to use open gym. Right? So you need to have the all access membership to use open gym. Okay, if you're not on all access, do not use open gym. The turf area and various times throughout the day to use open gym, to be in here doing your own thing, you must have an all access membership. The reason there's a deviation between those two, one, I don't want everybody working out on their own. We're not that kind of gym. And if you're going to, we're gonna keep this. This is nothing new. So this has been the way the memberships have been since forever. All right. You are going to pay a little extra to have that privilege to work out on your own in the various places and time slots throughout the day. And you pay extra so congestion doesn't get weird. All right. So the if you do not have an all access membership, do not do things on the turf. Do not come in here and work out on your own. Just know that you need to have all access to do that. All right. Least less common memberships, two-day a week membership, some people have it. That is two days per week or eight sessions per month. All right, so your membership is good for eight group classes per month or two days per week. That's kind of how it comes out to if you hit the eight sessions first, then you're out. If you do two days per week, there's five weeks in the month, well, you're out. So it's two days or eight sessions, is how that works. Then we have the 20 and 10 packs. Okay. 20 packs and 10 packs are just that. They are class memberships to use as you want through the course of a year. All right. So if you're on a package, those are for classes, use them as you want throughout the year, whatever. One piece of knowledge around this the booking window for the class schedule is also ranked by membership. So booking for the next month opens up on the 5th of the previous month. So on November 5th, you can start booking classes for December. All access members and lifetime members get first dibs. They can start booking classes two days before anybody else, then unlimited members, then everybody else. Okay, so all access gets first priority in booking future classes. Um limited gets second priority, everybody else after that. That's booking very far in advance. The last membership is the recovery room. That is a separate membership, it's its own side deal. I have to approve all those. I'm Chief Cleaning Off Operations Officer of the Recovery Room. I'm very particular about how many people are subscribed to the recovery room at any given time. So I'm able to keep up with it. Um, it is a separate charge, it's a separate membership fee, it's a separate access door on your app to be able to open the door. But you need to have a recovery room membership to use the recovery room. I have not seen any issues with that. Uh, that room is on under cameras. I get alert on my watch every single time somebody goes in there. And the door code tells me who's trying to use it, who's not, whatever. So, either way, I know if people not don't have that membership or trying to use it, but it has not been a problem. Nothing I'm worried about. If you're interested in it, talk to me and we can go over all that stuff. But that is its own separate thing. So I hope we're all on the same page there. All right. So just to reiterate again, all this is to maintain quality member experience, safe, fun environment, and have some control so things don't get too out of hand. Right? We are still actively reorganizing the gym, deciding some equipment that we may or may not keep to free up some more space. But in general, right now, 25 people in a class is a good place to start with this. Looking at the overall classes, not many go over that size too often. And I think it's a good starting point to start providing some structure. Again, from now through the end of the year, we are going to learn and train on this together, right? It's just gonna be a new habit that we're all going to just be learning together. You know, coaches, I don't want them sitting there trying to check everybody in the class anymore. They need to be watching you guys warm up, they need to be talking to you, see what's going on. They need to be coaching interacting, not backs turned to facing the computer the whole time. You have 30 people walk in and you're trying to figure out everybody and get them checked in the class. And the worst is when half the class signs up and half the class doesn't, you're trying to figure out who did and who didn't, it's a real pain in the arse. And we need to stop that. And I'm gonna put the ball in your guys' court now. You have to sign up for classes, and you're gonna have to use the app. All right, you can still do it on the iPad, but once the app is here, I may shut off that functionality on the iPad. But just know once the app is here, you should be using that, especially if you're trying to get into a peak class. Because once the class cap hits, well, you don't want to be the person walking in the class and getting turned around, sent out. And I do understand that that happening might cause you to quit your membership. And I'm okay with that. These rules and structure need to go into place for the long-term happiness of all of our members. If we piss off the few to make the majority a better experience, that's worth it to me. So I say that with love, but I'm not here to make a hundred percent of people happy unless you're willing to play by the same rules that everybody else is, right? And I think most people know that typically uh it's usually 1% of people ruin it for all people. And we're not gonna let that happen. So we are going to do this fair. We're going to be you know, real people helping real people, but we're going to apply structure. And again, as we roll this out, if you are unable to adapt over the next three months and kind of figure it out, you know, double edge might not be the place for you to work out, and that's okay. Lots of other places in this town to work out. Um like I said, I hope, and I think, I truly believe, the system. For this is super easy, super easy. So, and it's for your guys' experience, right? It's so us coaches can coach and plan, and you guys aren't being packed in here like sardines unexpectedly. You know, if your class is waitlisted, you know that's a busy class, and you have the expectation that that's a busy class, but what I don't want is you don't know what to expect that day, then all of a sudden 35 people show up, and then it's no longer fun, it's too much. So we need to set these expectations to provide a great experience for everybody in the gym, and I hope that we can all learn this together. And I do think so. I do think so. Right, I have hope and I have confidence in our abilities to pull this off. There will be an email going out that summarizes this whole thing. I do encourage you to listen to it. I know that not many people want to take 30 minutes out of their day to listen to me babble on about these um situations, so you can refer to the email. It'll I use artificial intelligence to summarize the transcript of this, and it'll have all the key points in there. All right. So if you got questions, talk to me about it. If you have concerns, talk to me about it. I'm telling you right now, if my morning class, 5 a.m., if we can pull it off, any class in this gym can pull it off. Right? They're a great group of people who have been training together for a long time and they understand the situation and we got it figured out. Okay, we got it figured out. So we did it, we're setting the standard for any class that hits that situation to be able to adapt. All right. So we got this. We got this, same rules are going to apply to every single class. You'll know if the class is a peak class, non-peak class, what the fees are, everything before you even sign up for it. It's listed right there in the app, right when you go to sign up. You know what you're getting yourself into, you know how to plan accordingly. And you already know if your class is a busy class, it's a peak class. All right. So if you guys got any questions, again, like I just said, reach out to me. We can talk about it. We got three months, we got November. Never mind, we have two months, November and December, to learn the new system. All right, we got this. I love you guys, and I'll try to not make another video about gym administrative things for a while. All right, peace.
