The Power Up Podcast
2. A conversation with Brian Wood MC From Battlefield to Boardroom (via a courtroom)
Brian Wood is a former colour sergeant of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in combat following his courageous leadership under enemy fire during the Iraq conflict.
He has put his own life in danger on several occasions and the brave actions of himself and his team saved the lives of many other soldiers.
In 2019 he released his first book Double Crossed which documents the 3 battles in his life from being ambushed with no cover on the battlefield, to the mental battle of the transition from military to civilian life, and a third when being falsely accused of hideous war crimes.
In 2020 in the middle of a Global Pandemic he started a fitness clothing brand Keep Attacking (they are the best gym leggings I have ever worn – FACT).
In 2021 his life was dramatised in the BBC Drama Danny Boy covering his journey from hero to falsely accused war criminal at the mercy of the corrupt lawyer Phil Shiner who fabricated evidence – for which Brian was completely vindicated.
In 2021 he completed the Ultimate Sacrifice challenge and ran 26 Marathons in 26 days to honor the lives of UK service personnel sacrificed in the Iraq and Afghan conflicts – he enjoyed it so much he did it again in 2022 but added a further 9 marathons to honour those lost in the Falkland’s war.
In 2023 he completed the gruelling Marathon des Sables all to raise over £200k for walking with wounded.
In terms of the 7 Natural Powers explored in our program, Brian displays every single one.
In this incredible conversation, we discuss his life in the military, defending his name, starting a global fitness brand and the mindset, beliefs and behaviours that see him overcome every challenge he faces.
We know you will enjoy this truly inspiring conversation. There are lessons in it for us all.
We are honoured and delighted to have Brian on the show.
In this episode we discuss topics such as:
- The circumstances surrounding Brian’s award of the military cross and the extraordinary acts of bravery of himself and his comrades.
- How he maintained courage and composure to make clear decisions under extreme enemy fire (at the age of just 24!)
- The 3 main battles in his life including one at the hands of the corrupt lawyer Phil Shiner (a story dramatised in the 2021 BBC Drama Danny Boy)
- How he navigated the mental and emotional battle of the transition from military to civilian life
- How he built his global fitness brand Keep Attacking and the message that is inspiring so many to overcome adversity and strive to succeed.
“In chaos or calm Keep Attacking”
“Whether you’re in the ring or embracing the challenges of everyday life, your commitment to excellence deserves kit that elevates your abilities.”
“Leaders go first and eat last.”
“For me its structure, structure, structure – or you will struggle to regain”
“You can act yourself into a new way of thinking, but you can’t think yourself into a new way of acting.”
“I’ve got a vision, I’ve got a hunger and desire to succeed.”
