Episode #82 movement library launch / update
Hello, and welcome back to the podcast. So it has been a men net. Since I have podcasted I would say the past month or so has been really hectic. It felt like I fast forwarded from the second week of November to now is December between like Thanksgiving and the movement library, launch, and all of that. So today's episode, I just want to give a little bit of. A recap of it the past few weeks, which will include. The lodge of my movement library, which I definitely want to talk about. But anyways, so. Getting a little bit deeper into the movement library. This is something that I've had an ideal for. For a few years now, my husband jokes around that, it was his idea first. And I will say that the concept, the initial concept. Was from him, but then the rest of the idea development came from me. Let's be honest, but I was. Yeah. Like, so basically how that came about was when Patrick and I first met. We met three years ago. And he had a suggestion. He was like, you should make. A lie, a spreadsheet of a library of exercises. That's organized for you to use when you're programming. And I'm like, yeah, that would be super nice, but like, I don't want to put all the time into something that just I'm going to use. Right. Because if you. Are listening to this and you're a coach. You probably run your own business. And you know that when you do that, you have to be all of the things, right. You have to be the backend person, the marketer. The copywriter, the plan or the coach, like you have, you wear so many hats. And so to spend a lot of time investment into something that isn't necessarily. Going to. Like bring you. Money. It's hard to commit to. So I sat on the idea for a couple of years and I think what really made me pull the trigger and do it is over the past couple of years when I've been mentoring coaches. They all have similar issues with. Feeling like they're spending a lot of time programming. Being disorganized, having to look for videos. Like they, I saw that other coaches were dealing with those same problems that the movement library could solve. And when I decided to. Run my group program programming through pain. I knew that that movement library would be a part of that program. And I was like, you know what? I should sell this separately. For like a limited time, you know, throughout the years. And so once I kind of had that, I'd never about, I was like, okay, this would be worth it to spend the time to make this resource. So I pitched the idea to the coaches that I mentor. I'm like, Hey, here's my idea. Like, what'd you guys use this? Would this be helpful? And. They were like, oh my gosh. Yes. Like that would totally be helpful. And then I would ask them other questions, like, how would you want it to be organized? What do you want the videos to be like? Did the videos have to have voiceovers. And the answers were, you know, they gave me some really great feedback and ultimately that's why I decided to do the videos with the voiceovers. Because they all agreed that it, that is super helpful. And a lot of the videos that have like explanations out there. It's while the person is doing the exercise. And they take a long time to get to the point. Right. And so. That is why I did the voiceovers, the way that it is there, like to the point tips on what to think about as you're doing the exercise so that when. The code is programming for their clients and attaching a video. They don't have to write so much explanation and the exercise it's like, oh, remember to think about this and think about this and think about this. It's like, okay, listen to the cues in the video. Plus here's some extra cues I want you to think about or whatever. So. Anyways, that is basically how I, you know, how the idea came to fruition. And then I was like, okay, I'm definitely gonna make this. But I'd never done. Anything like this before. And so. It was a, I learned so much, it was a really great experience. And I also learned how in depth that this project was once I started it, because it's like, okay, I get the initial, like rough draft of it up. Right. And my husband was also helping me with it too, because he as an accountant and works a lot in XL. So he knows a lot of spreadsheet hacks. And so. He kind of helped me. With the file as well, but Anyways. It's like you get all the initial, rough draft out and then you have to do all the videos and you got to do all the editing. Then you have to link it. Then you had to make sure that everything is right. And then you still have, you know, at least a couple of things that are due to go wrong when you are an entrepreneur. So. You know, but overall, like after that, After creating that. I am so glad that I did because now that that first iteration is done, like the first iteration is done it's so it's never going to be as intensive as the first time that I do something. And I'm planning on making updates to it once per year. But. Let's be honest, the updates. Aren't going to be another 300 exercises. Right? They're going to be like a few, right. It's never going to be as much as like the initial bulk. And I think it ended up being like a little over 330 exercises in total that were put in there. So. Definitely. Very large project. But. I was really excited with how the launch went because a lot of coaches hopped into it. Like a lot of coaches grabbed it and that was like really reaffirming. That. I made something that was needed in the space. And that was confirmed by me because I, I knew that it was needed in everything, but it's one thing to be like, oh, there's nothing like this. And then there's another thing to like, actually have people buying it. And so that was like, That was just really awesome. That was really awesome to see. Like, it just felt really good to know that, like I created something in that. These coaches are going to refer back to probably every single week. Like I'm using the thing too. Like I was using it yesterday. I was like, this shit is so nice. So anyways, That was just like really exciting. But. I also learned. Another lesson that I feel like I learned as like timelines, setting timelines for projects. I gave myself an extra two weeks buffer. To finish this project and I should have given myself an extra four weeks. Or, you know, like, but you know, it all got done on time and everything, but yeah, I definitely, now that I know that it's like, okay, if I'm ever creating, like, Our resource similar to this magnitude. You myself, plenty of extra time. Especially if it's around the holidays, like somehow. I always ended up doing this where I'm like launching something major or new around the holidays. Like last year I launched a podcast launched this podcast last January. And so in November and December, I was like doing a budget interviews, recording, wedge a podcast to make sure I have like a bulk of episodes done before it actually launched. And It was like a similar thing of like, oh my gosh, this is like around the holidays all at once while you're also trying to get ahead. With your Chi and work, so you can take off and all of that. But Anyways, it is what it is. And you know, we got it done. But another thing I just wanted to tie into this episode. Is. So a little bit of like a life experience that I had recently that I feel like changed me. So w we. Drove to Georgia for Thanksgiving and spend Thanksgiving with my side of the family. And So. The way they are, I mean, and it's like a, between 13 and 16 hour drive. Depending on how much we stop. So very long Trek but. And we live in the north. So we do get quite a bit of snow in the area that we live in. But we were expected to get this. Snow storm. The weekend we were planning on driving back home. And earlier in the week it was saying like, oh, you're only going to get a few inches, but in the day before Thanksgiving, it was like, oh, this is going to be like a blizzard. Like where we live, there is something called lake effect, snow. And if you don't live near one of the great lakes, you probably don't know what that is. But basically it means that the snow can just go crazy. Like the weather can just go crazy. Because, depending on how warm the lake is and How windy it is. So. It basically means that things can get really bad, really fast if if lake effect is involved and Anyway, so we knew something was coming. We were planning on driving back on Friday, but everything, I would see what the weather was like, oh, it's going to get be the worst on Saturday. So if we can make it home on Saturday, Then we will be okay. But a spoiler alert. We were not okay. We did leave on Friday, but Friday night is when it started getting really bad. We were in somewhere in Ohio. Trying to cross into Pennsylvania or whatever, but the snow started to get really bad and we could not see, it was coming down very fast. The highways were closing down. And. It was really scary, like this. Whole experience. I don't think I've ever been so scared. Especially growing up in Georgia, I do not have any real experience driving in the snow much. Luckily Patrick does. So he was like the hero. And I did a lot of the driving earlier in the day because I knew that the weather was going to be bad. So. Anyways, we basically I ended up getting stranded. Luckily at a gas station though. So basically we were trying to like hop between all these different, like smaller highways to see if we could. Get home that way, but ultimately, like what was happening was yes, they closed down the main highway. And actually people were getting stranded on the highway. But then on a smaller highways, there were people were having racks and semis were being like we're just stuck and blocking roads. And so at that point I was like, okay, there's no way around this. So we ended up stopping at this gas station, which a lot of other people was shopped at. It was kind of, it was crazy. It was kind of like a Walmart parking lot. Ask. Vibes, because there were so many people there. People who had been there all day. People who had been pulled off of the highway and brought here and be like, you can't be on the highway. Just stay here. And so I was grateful that we got, you know, we, we made it to a parking lot at the gas station. So like we had a bathroom, we could get water, you know, things like that. But basically we ended up. Sleeping in the car that night. You know, waking up every couple of hours to make sure the exhaust wasn't covered in lights, like turn on the heat again. And it was just like crazy. And also my poor dogs. We had our two doodles with us and I felt so bad for them. I'm like, they're never going to want to go on a car ride to guide. But. Anyways, and then. Let's see, we basically make it to the morning. And then the next day. And as funny, cause like, as you're going inside to like go to the bathroom, you like chatting with other people. I ended up. Talking with this lady who was, you know, headed in the same direction as us. She had a she had a big SUV with the tow hitch on it and she. Basically wanted to like caravan with us. And like, if anything were to happen, you know, she has a hitch, she could pull us out or whatever. So. We made it out with her and we're like, okay, we're going to like venture out together. And We ended up venturing out Saturday morning. And luckily we're able to make it home, but like, it's crazy because. When we when the snow started getting bad, we only had 130 miles until we got home. And then. But we ended up making it like 60 miles to the gas station. But we could only go like between 20 and 30 miles per hour or sometimes 10 miles per hour. So it was just taking for ever. It was just crazy sliding around like crazy. There were so many times where it was like almost getting in an accident and like, it was. Crazy. But anyways, After that I was like, oh my gosh, like life is so short and you never really know what could happen. And when I got home, I was like, No more playing small. And it was funny because after I got home, I made a lot of decisions over the next couple of days. To set me up to for the support that I will need in 2025 in terms of growth. And I felt like. That crazy experience gave me. Some courage to be alike. You know, You might as well go big because you just never know. And so I just wanted to share that with all of you in case someone needed to hear it. And yeah, so. I hope you got something out of today's episode And I will talk to you next time.
