Lori Gouhin: [00:00:00] Hello my friends. I am so glad that you are here with me today because today I want to talk to you about good fortune and why it has nothing to do with luck. And I also want to tell you about the Good Fortune Club, and if you follow me on social media, you might already have an idea or know what that is, but I wanted to talk and share a little bit more about it on today's episode.

And so. People love to say things like, you're so lucky [00:01:00] when they see something that's going really well in your life. Maybe if you're in business, maybe your business is growing, or maybe you are in a committed relationship or have lots of friends, or you have an opportunity showing up right when it was needed.

But what I've realized as I've gotten older is that what we often call luck is not random. It's the natural outcome of alignment, of showing up with consistency and clarity. And it's a mindset that's ready to receive. And when I look back at the moments in my life that felt like good fortune, they were almost always proceeded by a choice that didn't necessarily make logical sense at the time.

Maybe. Turning something down or trusting my gut or following my intuition when there wasn't proof that things would necessarily work out. And so today I wanna talk about what creating your own good fortune actually looks like and how you can cultivate more of it [00:02:00] in your everyday life. And so again, when most people hear the words good fortune, they often think of luck.

Something random, something that happens to you, but real good fortune. It isn't random at all. It's created and it's built through intention and awareness and connection, and most importantly, the willingness to participate in your own life. The people who seem quote unquote lucky, I would say, they're often the ones that go first.

The ones that reach out or they follow a hunch or they start a conversation. They take risks and they make room for connection and opportunities instead of waiting for them to appear and they live their life with intention. And this idea of connection and intention really ties into my philosophy of showing up like the masterpiece you are because you are the artwork.

And it's what inspired me to create the good fortune club. What is that? It's a monthly [00:03:00] art and letter writing experience that's designed to remind us that fortune begins with us through creativity and thoughtfulness and connection. Each month, members receive a five by seven, a original art card of one of my paintings, a printed fortune teller, like those ones that you played when you were a kid, and that's meant to spark reflection.

Two personal fortunes that will come inside the card. One for you to keep and one for you to give away a letter from me and an additional surprise, something small to keep it interesting, and the idea of sending the card instead of a regular print, because I know a lot of artists have print clubs, But the idea of sending a card is because I wanted to bring back the art of letter writing and the connection that comes from it. And so while you might choose to keep some of the cards and frame them as art, you can certainly do that. I also encourage you to write a note in the card on some months [00:04:00] and send it off to a friend or an acquaintance or whoever you choose.

and the fortunes that you receive are reminders of how fortunate we already are. Even in the moments when we forget or we overlook it, They're meant to be a gentle nudge for you to take good fortune into your own hands and to notice what's already working in your life and to create meaning and to connect more often, and to share beauty instead of hoarding it,

Because I believe that good fortune spreads and multiplies through connection and intention, and I think one of the biggest misconceptions about fortune and even success in general is that it's something that you can kind of think your way into. because we've been taught that if you just believe harder or stay positive, good things will come.

But that's not always how it works. Good fortune has more to do with noticing. What's already available to you and choosing to interact with it differently. You [00:05:00] can't expect that if you're racing through life or you're half present, or you're always waiting for perfect moment, that good fortune will come your way. Because it's in the small things, the small gestures like the text that you finally send, or the idea that you actually follow through on, or the gratitude that you take two seconds to express.

That's the kind of energy that starts to build good fortune. And I'd say there's also something to be said for curiosity. People who feel fortunate tend to stay curious. They look at life as something to explore instead of something to control, and they don't assume that they already know how things will go.

They stay open to being surprised and they kind of like that. That's the kind of energy that I want from the good Fortune Club. Because it's not about chasing luck or sitting around and hoping something great happens. It's meant to help you remember that good fortune is already in motion. You just have to slow down [00:06:00] enough to see it and participate in it and to share it.

And. So how do you actually create more good fortune in your life? Well, I would say start by noticing the people who cross your path regularly and actually engage with them. Ask how they're doing, and really listen. Say thank you. When someone makes an effort, send the card in the mail to express your gratitude for someone or to share a memory or a personal story.

Those moments count more than you realize, and they build trust and connection and momentum. All the things that make life feel a little more magical, in my opinion. And if you're someone who tends to overthink, reaching out. Let this be your reminder that it doesn't have to be complicated.

Let it be easy. Write a quick note. Give someone a compliment, somebody that you know or a stranger share something that you enjoy. That's how energy moves and that that's how the fortune circulates. You can also create tiny rituals that [00:07:00] remind you of how fortunate you already are. Things that bring you back to your gratitude and your awareness, and for some people that might be journaling.

For others, it might be surrounding themselves with meaningful art or photos Or handwritten words that will help you to shift how you feel throughout the day. And again, that's part of why I created The Good Fortune Club, to give you something tangible that sparks that feeling each month, like a visual reminder that you create your fortune through, how you show up, how you connect, and how you express yourself.

I think it's easy to overlook how much power you have in shaping your own look, but every time you reach out, you say thank you. You create something, or you share something beautiful again, that's good fortune in motion. And when you start viewing yourself as the source, the person who can create beauty and initiate connection or brighten someone's day, you stop chasing after that good [00:08:00] fortune and you start.

Living it, and although you might never know the ripple that it creates, I would say you certainly can feel it. That's the energy I want people to experience. Again, to realize that every small act of thoughtfulness is a way of saying something like. I'm part of the circulation of good things, and I would say that we for the most part have forgotten how to slow down.

We text instead of call. We scroll instead of connecting, and we consume way more than we create. There's something almost sacred about taking time to write a. Or to hold art in your hands or to wait for something in the mail that was made with intention. And when you slow down enough to appreciate beauty, you start to notice it everywhere.

That's what I love about mailing something physical. It's almost like an interruption. It reminds you that not everything worth having is instant. And good fortune's also about exchange. As an [00:09:00] artist, I've always felt that when someone collects a piece of my work, it's more than a transaction, it's a transfer of energy, a shared appreciation for beauty and meaning.

That's reciprocity. Both people walk away a little bit fuller. The same thing happens when you write a note or you share a kind word, or you give something from the heart. The giving and the receiving become the same act. Both sides expand. That's how good fortune moves. Again, it's not luck. And truthfully, I think most of us are craving something real because we scroll through endless content and we buy things that don't even mean much and tell ourselves we're too busy to connect.

But deep down, we miss it. We miss meaning we miss care. We miss something as simple as looking forward to, or getting pleasantly surprised by something in the mail. So if you've been feeling like your life has become a little bit too digital or too fast or too disconnected, you might want to join the Good [00:10:00] Fortune Club.

I would love for you to be part of it. Today is the last day to join to receive this month's card and other goodies in the mail. The cutoff date is the fifth of each month, so if you want to receive that month's mail if you sign up by the fifth, you're good to go. If you sign up and join after the fifth of the month, you would receive the following months mail.

I hope that makes sense. You can find out all the details at the link in the show notes or by going to my website, lorigouhin.com, L-O-R-I-G-O-U-H-I n.com. Remember, good fortune is not luck. It's the artwork of you.
