A new fitness center can feel like the headline, but the real story is what happens around it. We pause for a short solo reflection before Behind the Bluff returns to long-form guest interviews, and I share why one word keeps surfacing for me right now: perspective. After a quarter packed with new programs, new equipment, and new responsibilities tied to the Palmetto Bluff Club Fitness Center, I’ve been reminded that momentum is built by people who choose to contribute, not by perfect plans.

I talk about what it looks like when a team steps forward, including the work behind creating more than 380 new workouts and the all-hands effort that made our PB Hyrox competition happen. From hauling equipment to coaching members through hard moments, the energy on the Village Green showed me something simple: our best moments in wellness and community rarely come from one person. They come from a group deciding to build something bigger than themselves.

Then the tone shifts with a moment that changed my priorities fast, a phone call during a TRX and weights class about a serious car accident involving a teammate. It was scary, and it clarified what matters most. Buildings, programming, and schedules have their place, but relationships, support, and how we show up for each other are the foundation. As we grow, the real challenge is focus: deciding what deserves our time, energy, and attention so we keep what’s special intact.

If this resonates, listen through to the healthy momentum challenge and join me in acting on it. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people find the show. Who’s one person you’re going to reach out to today?

Welcome And A Season Pause

SPEAKER_00

Are you ready to live an active lifestyle? Welcome to Behind the Bluff, where we believe every moment of your life is an opportunity to pursue wellness on your terms. I'm your host, Jeff Ford, and over the past few weeks, we've spent some time introducing our new signature classes and sharing updates on the opening of the PBC Fitness Center. It's an exciting season for our team and our members. So our plan is to return to long-form guest interviews on June 17th. But before we do, I wanted to take a brief pause and reflect on the season we've just experienced.

Growth And 380 New Workouts

SPEAKER_00

As I thought about everything that's happened over the past few months, one word kept coming to mind: perspective. Today I'd like to share a few stories from this quarter and a simple reminder that I believe applies to all of us, whether you're a member, teammate, or a listener of this podcast. This past quarter has been filled with growth. New programs, new equipment, new responsibilities, new opportunities. One thing I've noticed is how many people have stepped forward to help make it all happen. Collectively, our team has created more than 380 new workouts in preparation for the opening of the Palmetto Bluff Club Fitness Center. That's 380 opportunities to coach, teach, encourage, and help someone become healthier and stronger. What impresses me most isn't the number, it's the willingness of people around me to raise their hand and say, yes, I'll help. I saw it throughout this entire quarter. I saw teammates take on new classes, learn new skills, and embrace new responsibilities. I saw people volunteer to help move equipment, prepare spaces, support members, and do whatever was needed to help our team succeed.

PB Hyrox And Team Energy

SPEAKER_00

One moment that captured the spirit of it all happened in April during our PB Hyrux competition. It was a massive team effort, seriously. Equipment had to be transported, stations had to be built. Farmer Shane set up a course with multiple lanes, just with stakes entwined. Man, that guy's talented. Members had to be coached, they had to be encouraged. And what a wonderful morning it was. Rain held holding out and just being all together for the first time ever on the village green doing a high rocks competition. That day I just remember standing on the village green and looking around. And this was right before the start, that first heat. What I saw was teammates carrying equipment, solving problems as the heats picked up, more people cheering on with one another and doing whatever was needed to be done. I saw members pushing themselves, supporting one another, and frankly, they were having a blast. The energy was incredible, and I remember feeling so proud. And I think the reason I felt so proud is because every person involved already had a full-time job. Everyone already had classes to teach, members to train, to serve, and a ton of responsibilities that they manage weekly. Yet people stepped forward on this day anyway. Standing there that day reminded me that some of our best moments in life don't happen because of one person. They happen because a group of people choose to contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Relationships Beyond The Job

SPEAKER_00

I felt that same sense of gratitude during a simple team gathering that we hosted about a month ago. People brought their spouses, we shared a meal, we laughed, we told stories, we had a fire going, my famous guacamole was part of the mix. We spent a ton of time together outside of work, a time where we could connect. And as I looked around that evening, just as similar to how I looked around at the at the Village Green, I was reminded that we've built more than a team. We've built relationships, we've built trust, we've built a group of people who genuinely care about one another.

A Scary Call That Resets Priorities

SPEAKER_00

And honestly, part of the reason the word perspective keeps coming to mind is because of something that happened earlier this year. I was teaching a TRX and weights class at the Canoe Club studio, and I received a phone call while teaching the class. One of our teammates had been involved in a serious car accident. I remember leaving the class, getting in my car, and driving to the hospital. And I'll be honest, I was scared. I prayed the entire way there. Because in moments like that, your perspective changes quickly. You stop thinking about programming, you stop thinking about schedules, you stop thinking about facilities opening, you stop thinking about equipment deliveries, you think about people. Thankfully, everything turned out okay. But that moment reminded me of something important. The most valuable thing we have isn't a building. It isn't fancy equipment, it isn't sexy programming, it's the people around us, the relationships we've built, the support we provide one another, the way we show up when someone needs us. That's what makes a team special, a group of people special. And I think that's true far beyond the workplace. It's easy to become consumed by the next goal, the next project, or the next milestone. It's easy to think that happiness, fulfillment, or success is waiting for us somewhere in the future. But life has a way of reminding us that what matters most has never really changed. The people we love, the friendships we invest in, the opportunity to encourage someone, the chance to make a positive impact on another person's day.

Opening The Fitness Center With Focus

SPEAKER_00

As we prepare to open the doors to the new Palmetto Bluff Club Fitness Center, I'm incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished. We are about to open the largest investment in wellness that Palmetto Bluff has ever made. That's exciting. And every one of us should be proud of the role we've played in making it happen. But what excites me most isn't the building, it's the people who will walk through those doors, the relationships that will be formed, the confidence that will be built, the friendships that will grow. And the healthier, more active lives that will be lived because of what happens inside those walls. So as the Pomano Bluff Wellness Program continues to grow, I think our challenge isn't finding more things to do. It's deciding what deserves our attention. How do we keep it small and intimate? How do we not pursue every opportunity as a priority? Success increasingly demands our ability to focus on what matters most. And maybe that's just another way to think about perspective. Knowing what deserves your time, knowing what deserves your energy, knowing what deserves your attention.

Gratitude Challenge And Closing

SPEAKER_00

So this week, here's your healthy momentum challenge. Two days after the opening of the Palmetto Bluff Club Fitness Center. Take a moment to appreciate the people who matter most. Send the text, make the phone call, write the note. Don't let a day go by where you don't express gratitude. Because at the end of the day, our greatest accomplishments won't be measured by what we build. They'll be measured by the lives we impact. Keep perspective. And I will see you back here on June seventeenth for another full-length episode of Behind the Bluff. Until then, keep building healthy momentum.
