Pieces To Wellness
We believe mental health is a spectrum. At one end is wellness and on the other end is illness. These conversations we have will offer up tips and tools to not only bring you closer to the wellness side, but also help keep you there. TPP (Author & formerly of Above Ground Podcast) and Karen have put together a new mental health podcast that is chock full of lived experiences, wellness tips & practical tools to provide you with some pieces… but it is up to you to put them together to reach that level of wellness that you have been working toward. Take out that tool box and let’s share tools together! Remember, the road to a better you is paved with Pieces To Wellness.

Mental Health-Past & Present: Dave’s Got Questions

Dave's got questions! This week, the Instigator and the Yogi share another segment of our ongoing conversation with Dave. Dave is a long-time listener and extra-long-time friend of Karen's whose curiosity is boundless. We're grateful to him for asking provocative questions and swimming with us in these deep waters.
Tim opens with a quote from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. It's Gandalf who says, "All we have to do is make the most out of the time we're given." Dave's big question this week is why do we think we're seeing more extremes in terms of mental health and mental illness currently as compared to 50 years ago, 100 years ago, or even further back in the human timeline.
We talk through some theories. Karen suggests that centuries ago, people's day-to-day energy was entirely spent on survival, and that with the increased leisure time that industrialization has brought about, many of us fall into unhealthy patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior. We also talk about the negative influence of media, social media in particular, on mental health. There's a reason we keep coming back to basic skills and tools like breathwork, nourishing food, and connecting with trusted community. These things have power to improve our lives in many ways. They may not keep the demons away entirely, but for most of us, these healthy patterns keep us on that wellness side of the spectrum. And that's what we're all about. Enjoy!
