Anna:Hello Phoebe!
Phoebe:And hello listeners! Today, we
Anna:we are reviewing and awarding our favorite running related products of 2024. I know. we thought it would be fun to look back over the last 12 months and give some recognition to the things that got us through from our favorite snacks to our favorite shoes.
Phoebe:give some recognition to the things that got us through from our favourite snacks to our favourite shoes.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:runs of the week.
Phoebe:Anna, tell me about your worst run this week.
Anna:I, fortunately, do not have a worse run this week because my hammy has started to improve. Hooray! The crowd goes wild!
Phoebe:to
Anna:That has
Phoebe:thank god.
Anna:yeah,
Phoebe:how many
Anna:are getting insufferable. Uh,
Phoebe:Anyway,
Anna:I'm sure the listeners are super, super excited to hear, but my hammy is finally responding to some rehab so I don't have a worse run. My worst running adjacent activity, I think would just be the rehab. Don't find it super engaging.
Phoebe:super engaging. What?
Anna:Went yesterday with our Spanish correspondent, Noz, first thing in the morning before work. And I think because you're not really getting your heart rate up, I'm also just walking around the gym by myself doing exercises. I don't get that feeling of euphoria after so. That was, it was pretty dull. Like I got to work and I was still yawning.
Phoebe:Yeah. I feel like when you run a lot. You have such a high bar for what exercise. You're like, it doesn't make me euphoric.
Anna:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why don't I feel like I could conquer the world right now?
Phoebe:could conquer the world?
Anna:Yeah. Uh, what's your worst run
Phoebe:worst trauma?
Anna:related experience? Any cooking? I haven't heard of it.
Phoebe:My cooking has been going pretty well, if you want a cooking update. Shout out to my auntie Shelly, who has been sending me through some recipes, which I've actually been doing the rounds. I shared with you the fried rice tofu recipe
Anna:Yes, I did do
Phoebe:and it's really good, yeah. And they tick my boxes, pretty
Anna:time. Five ingredients
Phoebe:Yeah. Yeah.
Anna:or less.
Phoebe:take long to make, can kind of survive like a few days from a meal prep perspective. So cooking has been going pretty well. My worst running run this week was Monday evening
Anna:I didn't
Phoebe:Monday run. I didn't run Monday morning. Because I was too tired. And so on, I decided to Do you think I should maybe. Um, yeah, okay. I was really tired because we got woken up at 3am on Monday morning by some men yelling in the street really aggressively and when like Sean ran and like looked out the window and was like Just started yelling like call the police call the police and so grabbed my phone
Anna:out
Phoebe:Anyway, and we called the police turns out one of them had a massive knife and was Threatening the other guy like it was gonna stab him and then they like ran off and then yeah, it was actually really scary I just think I don't know even though like living in the city. There's a bit of obviously, you know, there's crime
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:That happens. Yeah. You know, it happens,
Anna:But when it's right outside your house it's very startling.
Phoebe:yeah, and I don't know, I was telling my parents about it and dad was like, Oh, you know, like, those people, like, they're probably not gonna, they're not going for randoms. Like, they, there's probably some crime thing happening, or whatever, you guys are probably really safe. But then mum was like, no, they do attack women sometimes, and I was like, oh god. I'd gone to bed really late Sunday night and then this happened at like 2. 33 and I was like, I just can't get up at 5. 30. I can't start my week that way. I'm gonna sleep in and run off to work. And so run off to work I did, I was meant to have an hour. and it was solo and I had a big day and I just had zero motivation so I got up for 40 minutes and I was pretty proud of myself for that.
Anna:Yeah, that's a really good effort. If you were to write down, The definition of what would make a worst run. I reckon Monday evening is probably
Phoebe:evenings, solo, um,
Anna:a grind.
Phoebe:Um, tell us about your best run of the week.
Anna:best run was last Sunday. I just spoke about the definition of what a worst run would be, but this was peak.
Phoebe:peak, best
Anna:Oh, is it? Yay. Okay, cool. So it was warm. It was a Sunday, but it wasn't too Meted at 8. 30 for an
Phoebe:Meted?
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:Me
Anna:Meted. Also known as met.
Phoebe:Okay, um, when did you turn four? We meted. We meted. What
Anna:it. My partner Dave has said that this podcast has been really exposing as to the fact that I'm so bad at sayings. Like, apparently I always say them, but I fall short a little bit. I get them 70 percent
Phoebe:little bit. I get them 70
Anna:Yeah. Yeah. And he said, I've never noticed before, but it's almost a bit of an
Phoebe:before, but it's always
Anna:You just don't know. You're so bad at
Phoebe:just don't
Anna:Yeah. Who is that girl? Uh, which I didn't realize. So anyway, I'm going to try and get better for 2025, but anyway, best run.
Phoebe:our best run. Our best run, yes.
Anna:We met, on Sunday morning. It was warm. We went along the river. There was a good crew. We also played. I'm not sure if anyone that's on Instagram and saw our reel or if they didn't go back and look. We played this game called the suspect game and you pretty much just film people as you throw them under
Phoebe:the bus. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you obey like that. Suspects thinks a 6. 30 start time means a 6. 35 arrival time. Which, everyone might be like, ooooh. But they're just little things that
Anna:do. Yeah, they're like slide digs that really hit home, because you know they're true. I mean,
Phoebe:hardcore
Anna:No,
Phoebe:really. We're pretty nice to each other. But um, that was so fun. I can't believe how fast it made the run go.
Anna:I know. I was
Phoebe:I was going to say about why it was my favourite run is, it's the longest run I've done for ages. I did, like, over 17Ks. And I haven't been doing more than like, honestly, like an hour, even, for my longies. And so I was a bit in my head. I knew I wanted to do a round that before, and I was a bit like, Oh God, how's it going to go? It flew by.
Anna:yeah, it honestly, yeah.
Phoebe:going so I had funny other ones to film. It's like, play a game like that in a run. We need to think of more
Anna:games? More games like that, yeah. It was my longest run in a little while as well. I did 12k's. Huge! And, yeah, it flew by. What was your favourite, Suspect line?
Phoebe:a good question. Um, can I say one that I said? Because I was noticing when you were doing mine and you kept like saying nice things about me
Anna:I didn't mean
Phoebe:like, come on Nala. Come on,
Anna:little, it doesn't matter.
Phoebe:yeah, yeah. So, when I threw you under the bus for being a big, big old people pleaser. Um, that made me laugh at myself. What was your favourite one?
Anna:My favorite one was, the also one to you, but not by me because I wouldn't be brave enough to say this, but Izzy our friends mentioned to you that you talk about recovery a lot on the podcast yet still don't get enough sleep. But, but, but, but,
Phoebe:I have been making
Anna:Yes, I
Phoebe:I am so proud of you.
Anna:Anyway, and then we finished the run at coffee and no one was rushing off.
Phoebe:People joined us. Jenna,
Anna:joined us, Jenna, who we had on the show that was doing her 24 hour bike ride. She just finished the evening before, so shout out to her for actually riding her bike for 24 hours. Also, sorry, on this note, we should let everyone know that our sleep expert, Liv, has in fact had a
Phoebe:in fact
Anna:uh, little Pippa. She is doing very well and Pippa is very cute. Um, but yes, Dave and Ted joined
Phoebe:Sean who's meant to join us. for a run at least showed up for coffee.
Anna:exactly. it's just good vibes all around. Great start to the day.
Phoebe:Great run. I can't believe that's our first joint run of the week.
Anna:I know. Do you like me?
Phoebe:Yeah. Okay, should we get
Anna:We should get into
Phoebe:I'm really excited for this. So we thought we would just spend some time reflecting. on the year and the different products that got us through. So we're going to talk through a few different nutrition related products and then a bunch of, running adjacent products and then, gear. And I haven't seen your list and you haven't
Anna:And I haven't seen yours. I actually have noticed that there is a link to yours in our notes. But I haven't
Phoebe:You haven't opened it?
Anna:self
Phoebe:Wow,
Anna:I've been tempted.
Phoebe:While we're going through this, have a think about what your answers to these would be because we're going to do a bit of a competition on our socials. And we'll basically arrive at the end with the favorite running shoe of 2024, the favorite shorts, sports bra, etc. Favorite pre running snack? I'm excited, I can't
Anna:favourite post run meal. Mmm. Mmm.
Phoebe:Do you, I feel like maybe in our show notes we should actually list our things. Because otherwise, so if you're going for a run. Or something, because I know a lot of people listen while they're running. If you're running and listening, we'll put it all in the show notes, our
Anna:good idea.
Phoebe:So let's kick off, let's kick off with some nutrition ones, what do you
Anna:do we reckon? So, my best pre run snack is
Phoebe:So my best favorite snack is raisin muffins. Honestly, raisin muffins have been a bit of a hero for me.
Anna:Sorry, I
Phoebe:year. Sorry
Anna:I
Phoebe:so serious. Honestly,
Anna:so serious. Honestly, Raisin Muffins have been a bit of a
Phoebe:a hero for me. They came into my life at a time when I
Anna:When I need it the
Phoebe:I was having cruskets or like I'd have toast, but.
Anna:roasts, but it
Phoebe:It was just hard to find something that I was excited about in the morning. And then I remembered raisin muffins, and I've spoken about them on the podcast before, so I won't harp on about them. But, I have had them almost every, pre every run since. They've got 30 grams of carbs in them, so it's actually really high carb for not a huge amount
Anna:did. They go on
Phoebe:Just raisin muffins with butter. It's so good. Yeah. They're actually kind of expensive, but they go on sale all the time for like two to 3 for a whole packet. And I just buy like three or four and just chuck them all in the freezer.
Anna:Oh,
Phoebe:And then, yeah. yeah. So there's a bonus tip there. What about you?
Anna:My best pre run snack is, uh, gluten free toast with peanut butter, banana and honey. And specifically gluten free precinct bread, which is a brand. Unlike the raisin muffins don't go on sale often and come in at a whopping 10 a loaf, which is kind of normal ish for gluten free people. It's a tough life, honestly.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:that
Phoebe:like that
Anna:Uh, it tastes really quite like normal bread. Yeah. Yeah. Like the texture of it is really bready rather than cakey kind of thing, which is a lot, a lot of other gluten free breads. Peanut butter needs to be crunchy. Okay. Then honey, then banana.
Phoebe:do you, like, how often do you have that? Uh, when I
Anna:running a lot, I was having it every morning.
Phoebe:Every morning? Does it take a while to make, or is it not too bad?
Anna:No, not really. Literally, it's like exactly the same as yours. You just put it in the toaster.
Phoebe:because I just put, I don't put all those ingredients on. You have to chop up a banana.
Anna:Oh, just like loosely. It doesn't take that long. I mean, I don't use a chopping board. I just like, you get
Phoebe:Oh, that's actually good. Yeah, that's a bit less admin
Anna:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Admin is kept to a minimum.
Phoebe:And are you, like, genuinely excited to eat that in the
Anna:So excited. Yeah, I would eat that at any time of day.
Phoebe:day. You know Ah, that really wouldn't do it for me. Really? I love bananas. I hate bananas on toast. I
Anna:Mmm.
Phoebe:don't love honey that much. I actually don't really like honey at all. Peanut butter, I also don't like that much. I only like We
Anna:make the cut for the video when we were roasting each other. But Phoebe likes to call herself a super
Phoebe:I am
Anna:So she's super sensitive. But we actually have come to the conclusion that at the end of the day, she's actually just picky.
Phoebe:just, I'm like so
Anna:so sensitive in my hands. Um, This is actually post run snack.
Phoebe:Well, this is actually something that I need in my repertoire. I need a better post run snack. I will, I will say here, protein powder. Specifically, Tropica, vegan chocolate, Protein with almond milk.
Anna:Yeah, mine's pretty easy. Rockabee's Choc Honeycomb Smoothie. 30 grams of protein, some carbs,
Phoebe:Yeah
Anna:and a whole heap of deliciousness.
Phoebe:deliciousness. Yeah. Yeah. I'm so jealous of the
Anna:the Rockabees. No, no,
Phoebe:Just a vegan one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can't
Anna:no, no. Let's,
Phoebe:there's a massive, no, let's, well, I, one episode we should talk about it cause I cannot believe there aren't better. like dairy free protein
Anna:it happen.
Phoebe:Make it happen,
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:If you
Phoebe:people. Uh, okay, best post
Anna:Okay, best post race meal.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:Oh
Phoebe:is so crazy.
Anna:Oh gosh, this, you're crazy, you are honestly so crazy. This is one of the reasons why I love races so much, because the food afterwards tastes so good.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:what eggs on
Phoebe:toast taste delicious post a race. Yeah. Do you want more, um, cause I, if I cook it myself. I'll also cook up some greens with it. Don't trust me. And I'll have it with some hummus and scrambled eggs
Anna:treat yourself.
Phoebe:know. Um, why, what is yours? Mine
Anna:is a burger and chips and a chocolate thick shake.
Phoebe:thick shake. Oh, in the morning?
Anna:Uh, well, by the time you kind of do everything, it's at least 12pm.
Phoebe:Oh, is it? Yeah.
Anna:Yeah.
Phoebe:In the morning, all I want to do is get home and have some eggs on toast.
Anna:Everyone's different. That's it.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:Everyone's different. It's
Phoebe:It's about embracing the
Anna:Exactly. Best gel?
Phoebe:Yes. I have two. most of the year I was having cis gels. Okay.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:And
Phoebe:I do really like them. I find them really gentle on my stomach. Well, I don't really like, I actually don't like the flavor, really, of any gel, but these ones are okay. I moved some, so
Anna:don't know if these ones are okay. I'm really gentle on my stomach.
Phoebe:like the flavor of gels? Yeah! I really like
Anna:the gels?
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:in
Phoebe:I think I
Anna:Conchita. Food. Drink. First gel, I would say Cis but I then switched
Phoebe:That's right. Anyway. Um, there's gel. Yeah, so,
Anna:sweet Cis were
Phoebe:I would say cis, but tight. I then switched closer to Berlin to Morton, because I got really sick of how sweet cis were, and Morton don't have flavor.
Anna:drinking
Phoebe:However, I really don't think Morton sit in my stomach as well. I think especially maybe when I'm not drinking enough water. And in the marathon, I obviously threw up quite a bit. Um, and I do think that Morton are a bit harsher on my stomach. I struggled to digest them as well. But I think they're easily superior from like a flavor. They're pretty flavorless, which I like. Texture, not really on board with.
Anna:Nice. Mine is the Pure Sports Nutrition Mango Juice Gel. I really like it because it doesn't have the, you know, some gels they have that really like artificial sweetener taste, um, it's a little bit more, natural. So, they actually have, mango juice in it.
Phoebe:it. Oh,
Anna:so have you ever tried
Phoebe:pure. Oh,
Anna:Oh, the pure sports?
Phoebe:reckon you
Anna:I reckon you would love them. And they have orange juice as well. And when you're really thirsty on a run, it just, yeah. It's different.
Phoebe:Oh, good. Okay, I'll definitely give them a go. We should have said at the outset that not a single part of this is sponsored as well. Oh, yes. yeah, no, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, okay, this is slight,
Anna:what would
Phoebe:can be nutrition related, but doesn't need to be. What would be your best product for recovery? My
Anna:it. No, I'm just
Phoebe:is a hamstring curl machine. I beg your pardon? A hamstring curl machine. Oh, curl machine.
Anna:kidding.
Phoebe:yeah, yeah. Don't be joking. No, I actually really like the True Protein WPI uh, protein powders. They, uh, it tastes amazing. I genuinely like the taste. And mix it
Anna:genuinely like the taste, and mix it with yogurt,
Phoebe:or even
Anna:for some added protein, or a smoothie, or even just have it with water, and I genuinely like the taste. And any of their flavours, I mean I haven't tried all of them, I think they have 20 flavours or something. But I've tried chocolate, salted caramel, and vanilla, and they're all really nice. WPI
Phoebe:Um, okay, my best, well, I have three. So, but I was going to say Roz.
Anna:Oh, yes.
Phoebe:Massage therapist. Shout out to Roz Sports in Richmond. Um, every, I think every massage therapist there is amazing. Anna and I both see Roz, but I would say her, the other one that I had was Sense of Self. Um, the most relaxing place in the world.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:Anna.
Anna:know.
Phoebe:It is the most relaxing place in the world. I kind of didn't want to say it on the podcast because I'm like, I don't know. It doesn't need to be any more popular than it already is. It's already so hard to get a booking. Um, it's funny. I feel like we, what I'm learning from this year is like recover. Good recovery is really just sleep and nutrition. And yet here I am being like massage,
Anna:ha ha um,
Phoebe:magnesium, like delicious.
Anna:and
Phoebe:It's just fun to do these things.
Anna:fun to do. Yeah, I'm gonna Dyer from It. He
Phoebe:I'm gonna say Mitch Dyer from Straight At It. He has been unreal. He covers all of Australian athletics. He is, must be the hardest worker out there. He is at every event. He knows every detail about everyone. He's so passionate and he has genuinely. Helped connect Australia with our athletes a lot more. I think he is so talented at what he does and he's so committed and like the passion that comes through is so bloody impressive. Yeah,
Anna:I was speaking to you before I was at a track race on Tuesday night and there wasn't a heap of people there. So there wasn't much of an atmosphere, but he was commentating and
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:He
Anna:Can make something out of
Phoebe:In
Anna:in the sense that I don't know how he was commentating or just constantly speaking because there wasn't a heap going on. But everything that he says it's so engaging and it's so interesting and he's honestly the nicest guy.
Phoebe:And you know what he does, it's actually worth shouting this out. He is so ungendered in the way he reports. He is just as excited about the
Anna:excited about
Phoebe:as the men. And that's completely authentic. He I just don't think he has that same bias that a lot of people do where they just naturally end up paying more attention to the men. Like, I genuinely think he
Anna:same bias that a lot of people do, where they're just naturally like, more conservative than he
Phoebe:dad pointing out that, um, the difference between him
Anna:of the other reporters is he really cares you can and you can tell that really comes across in his interviews that he cares about the individual not just about what's happening on the track but what's going on behind the scenes if they've moved coach or if they've moved home and he can speak to that as well and I feel like he gets so much more out of the athlete and as a person watching the interview you learn so much more about the individual than the
Phoebe:you learn so much more about the
Anna:interviewers sorry
Phoebe:Um, yeah. Anyway, well done. Mitch, well done. Follow straight at it, if you're not already. Yeah, what about, what would you say yours is?
Anna:mine is surely a surprise to you is Jessica Stenson's Blog
Phoebe:blog. Me, Trango.
Anna:Tr
Phoebe:best running media of 2024. So,
Anna:It is jessica trengove.com au. Jess Stenson represented Australia at the Paris Olympics. She finished thirteenth. She's also won a couple of Commonwealth Games medals. One gold and one bronze. Is a mum of two. And she writes these blog posts that are so thorough. You feel as if You're her friend. She shares so much and the way she writes is so engaging and she gives so much, like she's so generous. with her experiences, and really raw and honest. Like I remember the marathon that she did where she actually qualified for Paris. She talks about the extra hurdles that she had to get over. She was on the athlete bus and she was breastfeeding her baby Ellie. it really takes you behind the
Phoebe:yeah. She does not need
Anna:and yeah, it lets you in.
Phoebe:need to
Anna:She does not need to do that. Her Paris 2024 recap is a 15 minute read, it's so interesting. Yeah, we'll put it, in the link. So,
Phoebe:again, for
Anna:again, for the 10th time this year, on ya, Jess.
Phoebe:Jess. On ya Jess. What has been your best running accessory? My
Anna:My best running accessory is my Garmin Venue. I've had it for years. I think I've had it for four or five years. I wear it all the time. They last so long and the, watch face is very simple and it's very user friendly.
Phoebe:some of the
Anna:Some of the watches kind of freak me out I almost find them a bit intimidating or overwhelming. There's just like so many buttons and everything. Whereas mine only, mine has two buttons. Um, it's just, it's really easy to use. And I, yeah. And I wear it day to day. I mean, I do look a little bit dorky, but I feel like it's a little more subtle and less obnoxious than a lot of the other
Phoebe:It, it does, it looks a bit more smartwatch y. Like,
Anna:looks a bit more casual than other, yeah, yeah, yeah. Less spiky, more Rolex. Not quite. Um, what is yours? Let me guess. Aura?
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:Yes,
Phoebe:I would say my or a ring I mean, I won't go on about it because I spoke I spoke at length about it last week, but I do think that It's rare that a product comes into your life that actually changes things for you
Anna:your life? Is that what you were about to say? It's rare that, it's rare that something comes into your life.
Phoebe:you so much, you know? Yeah, I don't know, I just feel like, you know, there's things that are helpful, but then I genuinely like the way that I feel about my aura. Wow, this is coming out way more intense than I
Anna:and I'm like There are tears rolling down her
Phoebe:No, um, but it
Anna:it has given
Phoebe:It has given me like a different level of like insight and also actually I'm going to reframe that it's given me a new way to engage with my body and my well being yeah which I and I've found myself the more visibility I get over it the more I can feel like I understand it a bit better and connect with it and so on so yeah
Anna:All jokes aside, that actually is amazing. There aren't that many tools that you can just buy that do that. So yes, definitely on my Christmas list.
Phoebe:Again,
Anna:Santa, if you are listening. Mom! Dad! Um, so it's
Phoebe:So let's move on to our favorite running gear, like apparel.
Anna:keen to hear what is going straight in your basket. These Black Friday sales. Uh, so yeah, give me, what's your best sports bra. Yeah.
Phoebe:Swoosh Flyknit High Support non padded sports bra. I think if you just search Nike Swoosh Flyknit, I think that's the best one. That is the sports bra. It actually was the first high support sports bra, like specifically high support, high impact sports bra, whatever you call it, that I've worn. I think they're really good. I think that one of the reasons I like them is because they wick sweat away like nothing. Normally my sports bras
Anna:the material
Phoebe:this is a bit gross, get super
Anna:ability to
Phoebe:and they're like wet almost by the end of the run. And the material has like a remarkable ability to not get too sweaty. Um, and they come in sizes where you can get like a band size and a cup size, which I think is super important for a sports bra. I will say they're super hard to find, um, especially like, yeah, your specific size that you need. Is actually also
Anna:Yeah, mine is actually also a Nike one. It's the Nike swoosh bra. specifically I like the color green. Um,
Phoebe:it's my, it's just my
Anna:it's just my favorite, like, you know how you have that bra in your drawer and if it's there, you're like, oh yes, like I just wear that all the time. I just find it comfy. I just find it comfy and I like the colour.
Phoebe:What about your favorite running shorts? I'm very interested to hear what you, I think I know, but I don't want to presuppose. Yeah,
Anna:okay, this is a little bit controversial I guess, mine are technically not running shorts. They're actually the Lululemon Women's Align high rise short and they're advertised as a yoga short, but I just find them so comfortable.
Phoebe:I feel like we, like, every girl in our running group now has
Anna:Oh, they're just, they're so good you can get ones that are shorter and then you can get ones that are longer. I have both and I love both. I prefer the shorter ones for actual running, but prefer the longer ones for coffee afterwards. They're so comfy and they hold you in. They don't ride up at all. Um, they don't move.
Phoebe:Yeah. At all
Anna:at all and I just absolutely love them. The one downfall with them is that they have a pocket but it's pretty small so you can probably only fit one gel in them.
Phoebe:Yeah, they're not really phone carrying shorts. I have them too. I think they're unbelievably comfortable. I, mine definitely ride up a little bit. But I feel like different body shapes, I don't know, just, I think, I mean, this is true for all this stuff, like different people are going to have different preferences. I also reckon I got mine a size too big. I always, I always, I'm like, oh, I feel like they're too small. And then you wear them once and you're like, okay, no, they actually fit
Anna:Perfectly. Yeah, um, I will also add my favorite race shorts. So when you do need gels and stuff, these fit in quite well are actually the bandit women's shorts. gridlock
Phoebe:you've gotten really good
Anna:Yeah. So they have pockets on the side. and then they also have a zip pocket at the back. They're super comfy, and sit quite well. They don't hold you in like the lowly ones do, which I actually find more comfortable come race day. Um, they're just like not constricting at all. Yeah. So yes, they're my favorite race shorts. What are your favorite shorts?
Phoebe:I have a runner up which is,
Anna:which is,
Phoebe:took me by surprise, but I was reflecting, what have I got the most use out of and what do I still reach for? My runner up is the LSKD Fusion extra short tights.
Anna:soft, but they're thick, and
Phoebe:I find they're a really thick material. So they're soft, but they're thick. And I, I struggle with some of my other bike shorts are quite a thin material. And I just don't feel like they stay. They, I don't know. They just don't feel like
Anna:know what you mean. They're almost a bit flimsy.
Phoebe:different pair of LSKD shorts, which are just like way thinner. And these ones are just like. Yeah, I think they've got a level of, they're thicker than the Lulu ones. And, They've got pockets on the side, which I don't love. I just think, as a rule, pockets, I love pockets at the back. but, they still absolutely do the job. And so, they've actually been, yes, I highly recommend it. The
Anna:shorts that I just, recommended. They have pockets on the side, but they're quite, they And then my Uh, I actually have them on right now. They're shorts. They're on shorts. And they, I wear them on
Phoebe:and then my winners, I actually Googled what they were called and I think they are just called the on running shorts. They're the ones I'm wearing right now. They're the shorts, they're on shorts and they, I like a loose short. As a general rule and these are the best loose short I've had Number one, they've got a pocket at the back which fits a phone and holds it really securely in place They've got kind of like a band at the top that yeah the pocket like sits in and then they've got like bike shorts underneath them So they're super comfortable and like I never get chafe and they're just a really nice soft like the material is like Actually, I would say not. I'd say it feels really good quality. Like, I don't, I think I will get years and years of wear out. I mean, I've already worn them so much and they don't have a single sign of wear. I think they're such good, they're 100 so you're paying for it, but they are such good quality shorts. I reckon my tip would be if you're between sizes, size down. They are, I reckon they're bigger than I would have thought they would be. Yeah, they're a generous fit,
Anna:I would guess. Okay, my favourite ratio was the
Phoebe:Okay. My favorite race shoe was the On Cloud Boom Strike.
Anna:wore this,
Phoebe:Okay, cool. So we both only, only wore this. I mean, the shoe only came out this year. and so we wore it for the first time. I obviously wore it in Berlin. It is my favorite super shoe I've worn, I've, I even, I wore it again, a track this Tuesday and I, I was like, Oh my God, I remember why I love this shoe so much. It is so bouncy, but it feels like not soft, feels super comfortable, but not soft, like really responsive, really light. I think they look really cool. So, my qualm with them is that they give me They gave me terrible blisters on my Achilles. A lot of shoes do that for me, when I first wear them. But these ones definitely did. However, once I wore them in, like, they're fine now. And I, yeah, I think they're, I think it's an amazing shoe.
Anna:ones definitely did. However, once I wore them, like, they were fine. And I, yeah, I actually don't, I haven't used them in a long time. racing shoes are a bit in your face. I feel like they're a little bit more subtle, which I also like.
Phoebe:the big one. I already know what you're going to say for this one.
Anna:I miss them so much.
Phoebe:know. well, you go first. You go first.
Anna:Okay, mine are the Asics Super Blast. I could live in them. I haven't had a pair for about four months and
Phoebe:Can you just not get your hands on the more of you not tried?
Anna:I think because I haven't really been running. I used to love doing sessions in them, but yeah, you know what, actually I'm gonna, I, I, they might even be sold out. I don't know.
Phoebe:out, I don't
Anna:they're really hard to get. Yeah. But the, they, uh, jack of all trades, actually they, um, I don't know if this is a thing. They are a master of all trades. They are so good for long runs. They're so good for sessions. They're a bit more responsive, than your everyday jogger. They're super comfortable, really bouncy and so supportive. Yeah. I don't, I don't know about you, but At the back of long runs or even sessions in some shoes, my feet almost get a little bit sore. or a bit stiff. Whereas in the Super Blast, I just don't get any of that at all. They honestly just feel like you're running on a cloud. I love them.
Phoebe:are good shoes. I'm really keen to try the new ones. The new ones the two. Because i tried the ones and I really like them but i found them a bit too rigid a bit too supportive almost.
Anna:okay,
Phoebe:Whereas apparently the new ones are just a little bit like,
Anna:Less so, yeah, I had the ASICS Super Blast 2, now they're on to the 3's.
Phoebe:Oh, Yeah, that's right. yeah, yeah,
Anna:I really want to get my hands on a pair. what is yours?
Phoebe:Mine, uh, is the
Anna:Hock a Mac. Haha,
Phoebe:Specifically Hocker Mach 6. I mean, I loved Mach 6, just such a level up.
Anna:such a good
Phoebe:They're such a good shoe. I'm looking at them right
Anna:looking at them right now. Oh,
Phoebe:Yeah, they are I don't know. You know, when you just put on a shoe and you're like, yes, this shoe just works. They're really light. They're, they're,
Anna:It's almost
Phoebe:they're less, um, intense than I find like the Super Blast or some shoes are like, they're doing too much. I find these almost like you just forget you're wearing them. Like, and they feel so comfortable on my feet. I've never gotten a single blister from them. Although I know, again, everyone's feet shapes some people get blisters from hookahs. They're light, they're bouncy, they're easy to run in. These ones last me so long. Um, yeah, I just find myself, like, wanting to run in
Anna:Yeah, I actually do really, really like them. amazing!
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:That's it
Phoebe:it for our reviews of 2024. Let us know, if you agree with any of these takes. And otherwise, yeah, we're going to be putting it out there for a lot of these more popular categories. Getting some input from everyone about what their favorites are. And then we're going to do a bit of a, um, how do you call, what do you call it? Like brackets. A
Anna:A tournament.
Phoebe:A bracket tournament, yeah, yeah, tournament, yeah.
Anna:Yeah.
Phoebe:The best of 2024.
Anna:A quick word from today's sponsor, Pillar Performance, I want to check in to see how your aura experiment's going after having the magnesium
Phoebe:experiment's going after having the magnesium. tracking on my Aura, I've been tagging the nights that I have had Magnesium. As I'm now learning, it takes a lot of data points before it can identify a trend. But it did tell me as soon as I started tagging Magnesium, it said, Aura users who, tag magnesium experience two percent better
Anna:percent better
Phoebe:pretty good I would definitely would take two percent any percent right now will be
Anna:But I just,
Phoebe:But I just find I love the routine as you know, I have a hot magnet We drink it very different ways, but I have a hot magnesium before bed Yeah. Natural berry. flavor and I reckon I just drift off to a nice sleep afterwards. Whereas you, you have it throughout the day, which I find so rogue. I reckon I'd be falling asleep, we're all around the place. so I
Anna:I like to have mine with some ice. Nice. Sitting out in the sun. I
Phoebe:pretty sure that's a
Anna:I, yeah, that's, I'm pretty sure that's what you I mean, yeah, on a hot day,
Phoebe:And then
Anna:have it, like, mix it around with water first and then put some ice in it. Go sit in your backyard in the sun post
Phoebe:It is
Anna:It is
Phoebe:so,
Anna:Delightful. It is so, so
Phoebe:so, yes, get
Anna:so, yes, get around, I mean, any time of day,
Phoebe:Yeah, yes, that's
Anna:definitely better in the day.
Phoebe:Magnesium has been found to help recovery better in the day.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:day.
Phoebe:Or at night. I reckon before sleep, it makes you sleep really well. Decide for yourself. Magnesium has been found to help recovery, lower stress levels, and support our immune system. So it's a great combo for the everyday amateur runner just like us who's trying to do a lot with their day. Best
Anna:Best of all, it's also gluten free. Oh, you silly yuck. It's vegan and made in Australia so everyone can enjoy
Phoebe:I always leave that line for Anna to say because she's so excited.
Anna:so excited. Pillar have made sure you cheeky friends can join in on the fun too. Please use Cheeky15 for 15 percent off at checkout on your first order. That's Cheeky15 for 15 percent off.
Phoebe:Thanks again to Pillar for helping this episode of Cheeky come to life.
Anna:that long, but the more I look it up and research, the more I actually want to somehow get involved. Anyway, doesn't matter. Uh, so, the organization is called Free to Run, and their goal is to increase the opportunities for women and girls to engage in public life. Using sport as a tool of empowerment and education in areas of the world where decades of conflict and instability have resulted in extreme social isolation for women and girls, The organization was founded in 2014 in Afghanistan by ultra runner and human rights lawyer Stephanie Case. she organized a simple hiking activity that was requested by a small group of women in the central highlands region of Afghanistan and it's just completely, it's grown since then. Um, they have like 20 people that are working for
Phoebe:working for
Anna:Yeah. Well, over 20. Yeah. Um, since then free to run has impacted thousands of individuals in their communities in five different countries. At the moment, they're currently have programs in. Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq. The free to run programs, they're not just running. Um, so it's all about like empowerment of women. They include a combination of physical fitness, life skills and community service. Depending on where they are and the safety, they participate in public outdoor sports, like running, hiking, camping, but also inside gyms, or at the moment in Afghanistan, they are there, but they don't have many details around it on the website, I think, obviously to protect the safety of the women over there. But I think the thing that really, hits home is their stats. 88% of the women and girls that have participated, in their programs, feel like they know a safe place to go now versus 51% before starting the program. 79 percent more participants know about what menstruation is, and 74 percent more understand how women and girls get pregnant, uh, 35 percent of the people doing the programs feel they will get the things they want in the future versus 19 percent at the start of the program. Their numbers in 2023 815 girls and young women participated in regular Deep Impact running and rights based programs.
DJI_20241121082057_0160_D:That
Phoebe:is unreal.
Anna:honestly so inspiring. the fact that they have been able to create this.
Phoebe:space and
Anna:and nurture this environment in the most like conflict stricken areas of the world and like often places where women have minimal to
Phoebe:actually would be really cool to try and raise money for something like that one
Anna:Yeah, yeah, I agree and get involved.
Phoebe:Yeah, I'm sure they are. Absolutely. Um,
Anna:our weekly lockdown. Yeah, yeah, most of
Phoebe:oh no. What
Anna:thrilled. I might actually put the organisation's website in the show notes.
Phoebe:So, merch store update. We
